Illusion in the Media

Illusion in the Media

The Question: One of the greatest illusions of our day is that the press and various news services are impartial and deliver the news objectively. A couple decades ago most people accepted this and Walter Cronkite was called “the most trusted man in America.” Since the rise of the internet and talk radio, more and more people are beginning to see through the illusions of the media.

What pieces of the puzzle do they leave out and which wrong pieces do they put in to distort reality? In other words, what does the media do to distort the news and feed the veils of illusion?

We take pride in this country that we have a free press and feel that we have a huge advantage over the totalitarian states. In such a state you have the dictator and a few acolytes who are in total agreement with him control and censor all that filters down to the public. It’s a good thing that we don’t have that happen in a free society, isn’t it?

Actually, it does happen here, but the control is not so obvious.

How does it happen here you say? After all, the press is free to publish anything they want, aren’t they?

OK, let us look at why we don’t want a dictator controlling the media. The reason is that he has a certain mindset and he only allows the information that blends in with the mindset to appear in print.

Now if we have a group on individuals with a certain mindset controlling a supposed free press and the only material that is allowed to see print are those things that are in harmony with the mindset, do you not have the same thing?

Just as the king or dictator only allows his philosophy to see print yet at the same time give the appearance that he is fair and balanced even so can a free press do the same thing. They can apply as many filters as the tyrant but use the force of their broadcast to trick many viewers that their media is fair.

After all, do not the majority merely accept what is fed to them without much thinking involved? Therefore, cannot this majority be controlled and in turn keep the thinking minority in check.

Indeed this is possible and has been in effect most of the time for the last hundred years. It is only today with the appearance of the internet and cable news that the mindset that has controlled the media is losing its power and for the first time in history we are approaching an era where there will be truly a free circulation of ideas. (Note from 2021: This has now been sabotaged by the internet giants censoring news, information and opinion)

In my younger years we had three networks on TV and most towns had one paper from which we received the news. In addition we received some news on radio which was usually a summation of TV news.

As I matured I became more and more aware of how the news through the major media was not only slanted, but filtered. I was surprised I did not wake up to this sooner as in my younger years I just seemed to be more accepting as well as the fact that news was not a top priority with me. But as I began to pay attention I became more aware of a strong bias toward the left, or what some call today “the liberal media.”

Calling it a liberal media is confusing when one considers my recent post where I illustrate that much of what is called liberal is really conservative and visa versa. For the sake of this article we’ll use the traditional meaning of liberal and conservative or call them the left and the right.

In addition to the media slanting left I noticed that politicians from both parties did also. Even when many of them get elected and promise to balance the budget and do A, B and C on a conservative agenda I noticed that many of them settled into a more left leaning mindset after they were in office for a while.

Anyway, as I began to observe the media and politics and notice their bias I began to question why this was so. A very popular answer was that they were all arms of a great worldwide conspiracy which was controlled by international bankers, Jews, the Illuminati, Trilateral Commission etc.

I had to admit that the control did seem like the arm of a great conspiracy. How else could one explain the depth of it, I wondered.

After much reflection I found the answer and it was much different than I originally thought, but unknown to me I had the clues of it in front of me from my college days.

When in college I majored in political science and minored in journalism.

On hindsight I can see that my political science teachers who gave out any philosophy at all slanted far to the left, but I wasn’t much aware of it at the time. My desire was just to get a decent grade and please the teacher. I remember one teacher in particular who often made fun of conservatives and attacked the John Birch Society at every opportunity. He made so much fun of the Birchers that it made us feel like these people must completely insane and devoid of any redeeming value. It got to the point that if you wanted to insult someone you just called them a right winger or a Bircher.

Now the funny thing is that I thought that everyone in the class thought pretty much as one mind. No one ever challenged the teacher or showed any signs of disagreement. This seems particularly odd on hindsight when you consider that one of my classmates there is now a famous conservative U.S. senator – Larry Craig from Idaho.

The interesting thing is that back in those days I thought that Larry was on the left. I thought the whole class was. When he later ran for office as a conservative I was quite surprised.

Because I minored in journalism I went to work on the school paper. Every single person on the paper had a left slant in his or her thinking and writing. No one had to say what their views were, you just picked it up and when I wrote articles I just knew what was acceptable and what was not. I didn’t know this because of any conspiracy or because someone gave me orders. It was just something that everyone picked up.

The general conversation and humor of the staff was hauntingly similar to the political science class. Conservatives were the bunt of jokes and if someone wanted to ridicule another and called him a Bircher we would all laugh with understanding.

During my classes I never did find out anything about the John Birch Society. I just figured they were a bunch of idiots. Then one day I can across some of their literature and read it. I found it interesting and bought and read quite a few of their books.

I didn’t agree with everything they wrote, but I found one thing for sure that was true. They were not idiots. Their books woke me up to the fact that there are many stories and slants on current events that were completely ignored and twisted by the media. From that point on I never watched a news program in the same way again. Instead of just taking the news in without questioning I began to use judgment and discernment. I began to ask – what is left out of this story and why? Why is the emphasis on point A and not B? What is the belief system and agenda of the announcer or writer?

As it turns out it is not so much a difference in belief systems as in influences and polarities. The left is more in tune with emotions, intuition and creativity and are thus more drawn to the media and movie industry. The right is more influenced by the mind and are thus drawn to business and proven concepts and ideals.

What we are always in need of is a balance of the two.

Never explain–your friends do not need it and your enemies will not believe you anyway.

Illusion 105

Illusion 105

Question: Is there not a difference in a mistake due to incorrect or incomplete information that is easily overcome, and an illusion that is held (speaking of close possession) due to an overwhelming or long standing inability or unwillingness to see the ‘whole picture’?

JJ: Great question _ I’ve been thinking of this very principle since my last post.

We are told that a third degree initiate is one who has basically mastered illusion – at least to a certain level. Does this mean that such an initiate cannot be tricked with false data as we were with the false Spielberg information?

No it does not. Anyone in the flesh can be temporarily deceived with wrong data. Technically when this happens it could be said that such a deceived person, initiate or not, is in a state of illusion – for as we said, illusion is created by either a missing piece or a wrong piece to the puzzle.

So, how then can a third degree initiate be called one who has overcome illusion when he can still be temporarily tricked and even the Masters are said to have to deal with illusion on their plane?

The answer is this.

The reason illusion misleads the average seeker is because he is polarized in his emotional body or lower mind and does not have the ability or motivation to seek out illusion that may be deceiving him and dispel it. To dispel illusion the seeker must move his attention to the higher mind of pure reason and contact the soul.

When this happens it does not mean he cannot be tricked in minor items, but when there is some illusion which will have a negative effect upon him, soul contact synthesized with pure reason will lead him to the illusion so it can be dispelled.

He who has reached a point to where illusion will be destroyed will do the following.

(1) He will look for illusion in his life and belief system no matter where it may lie, even in his cherished beliefs.

This may seem like a no-brainer, but you would be surprised how few do this. Many who think they are open-minded and looking for error in their lives are not looking at all. Instead, they are looking for confirmations of their beliefs rather than the whole truth which may destroy their current beliefs.

There is nothing more terrifying to the beginning seeker than the thought of having his belief system destroyed.

(2) When he finds an error he will immediately adjust his life, his work and belief system to incorporate the new truth, or piece to the puzzle.

It is amazing how many people when confronted with a correction of their error will defend the error and refuse to accept the truth even though it is impossible to refute with the use of reason.

(3) He has enough mental development to understand the need to dispel illusion and has a willingness and desire to do so.

(4) Seek to keep his mind centered in the light and his consciousness in the soul.

Many see the light from time to time and touch the soul now and then, but he who dispels illusion must stay centered at all times.

If the seeker will do the above four things he will feel “a disturbance in the force” when there is an illusion that needs to be dispelled. He will then seek out the illusion and “seek and find” the truth which will dispel it.

Reader comment: Several days ago I read JJ:’s post over and over about the power of the thoughtform affecting Mormons. I tried every way possible to develop a deeper understanding of this phenomena. I’ve been trying to do the same with the Christian Fundamentalist mind set.

JJ: This is probably interesting to contemplate if you have never been caught up in a religious thoughtform. You are to be commended for contemplating with an open mind for most seekers, especially new agers, just immediately dismiss religious followers with which they disagree as unstable emotional zealots. They feel that they could have not gotten caught up in such a belief system in a million years.

Such a thought is often based in illusion itself.

Where is the illusion?

The missing piece is a lack of understanding of the power of a group thoughtform and where it gets its power.

When a person studies the life of Christ he will often receive either a reflection or a touch of real soul contact verifying that certain elements perceived are true. Because the emotionally polarized person’s discriminative faculty operates in a black and white mode he will usually accept that the whole Bible is literally true.

The beastly authority who interprets the Bible for him will then mold his fixed mindset that will be extremely difficult to change.

The religious zealot usually does not discriminate enough to even see or understand illusion but is caught up in the glamour that his Lord is master of the universe and he is one of the few to understand the mind of God through his revealed word.

The Mormons are largely caught in the same trap but on the average are more mental and use more discrimination than the standard Christian. Some of the LDS intelligentsia are evolved enough to be more controlled by illusion than they are glamour – similar to Christian Scientists.

Mormons, for instance, believe the Bible as currently written does have mistakes in it, but they believe it was infallible as originally written.

They are effected by the same pull as the Orthodox Christian in that they often receive soul confirmation on parts of the Bible, but in addition they receive additional soul contact on parts of the Book of Mormon and teachings of Joseph Smith.

The effect of this is that it causes them to assume that, since the LDS authorities are the caretakers of these teachings, then God also supports all they do and say as God’s word that is not to be challenged.

Now if you think that this illusion only applies to supposedly backward religions take a look at metaphysical groups. They do the same thing. Members of the Theosophical Society (just one of many possible examples) usually reject the teachings of Alice A. Bailey because their leaders which are the caretakers of the teachings of H. P. Blavatsky do not accept them.

When I was 13 I studied the teachings of the LDS church and was impressed by many of them and received verification that certain things were true.

I never fell into the trap that the LDS authorities were infallible. In fact I almost got in trouble in my teens for stating that we would go to the moon when a Mormon apostle said we would not. I bluntly stated that he was wrong. I also was criticized as a teenager for using hypnosis and handwriting analysis which the authorities told us we should not do. I ignored them and continued.

After I had a serious accident at the age of thirteen when a homemade rocket blew up in my hand numerous leaders of the church visited me in the hospital and authoritatively stated.

“I’ll bet you learned your lesson. I’ll bet you’re not going to make any more rockets.”

I smiled back and said, “Not until I get out of the hospital. I’m just going to be more careful next time.”

I got a bang out of watching the expression on their faces when I gave this reply. They were so dumbstruck they didn’t know what to say.

And I wasn’t just bluffing. After I got out of the hospital I went right back to working on rockets. I did take the step of buying pre-made engines which were much safer than making them yourself.

I would often invite a group of kids over to my house after church to watch me launch my new masterpiece to the consternation of my local Bishop.

Even though I was not enamored with the intelligence of the authorities I was very impressed with the scriptures and concluded that the church was part of a divine plan and we should support it the best we could despite the mediocrity of the leadership. I felt at the time that there would eventually be some type of transformation of the church in the future and that a time of great revelation and learning was yet to come.

I personally fulfilled this expectation in that I experienced revelation and learning, but had to leave the church behind to do so.

The bottom line is this. The illusion and thoughtforms of the great institutions of the planet have deceitfully captivated many intelligent people. Even many who see through the illusion continue to stay in the organizations for various reasons.

When we see others captivated in some illusion that we see through the thought should not be one of superiority, but “there, but for the grace of God go I – and I may yet be following a similar illusion not recognized by myself.”

Fame is only good for one thing — they will cash your check in a small town. –– Truman Capote: (1924-1984)

Illusion 104

Illusion 104

A reader presents the illusion of truth being relative referring to the often stated phrase, “You have your truth and I have mine.”

Part of the problem is the lack of accuracy in the wording which should read: “You have your opinion and I have mine.” An opinion may or may not be true.

We did discuss this quite a bit years ago. I think you could find some articles on it by doing a search on freeread for the words “Absolute Truth.”

It is interesting that many students of the Course In Miracles see the truth as relative when the course itself says:

“The truth is true and nothing else is true.”

When one falls for the illusion that truth is relative then he can change the truth into a lie and has no foundation of truth with which to build a philosophy of life.

Stephen Spielberg is upset at Mel Gibson for making the movie – The Passion of Christ. He thinks it is an insult to the Jews, of which he is one.

To counter the Passion movie he is said to be working on three movies about the Crusades which will portray Christians as murderous thugs. He thinks this will provide balance for Gibson’s movie.

Question: What is the illusion that is motivating Spielberg?

First of all we owe thanks to a reader for exposing illusion within the question itself. He tells us that this story is a fabrication that is circulating around the web.

I’m trying to remember where I read this. It seems it was some kind of news site but now I can’t seem to find the original source. I usually see though these type of deceptions, but I missed this one.

What does this teach us about illusion itself?

First it teaches us that something which is not true yet plausible is extremely easy to accept as a true fact from which other assumptions can be derived – some which could be false.

The disciple must ever watch for signs of illusion even in areas where all the data seems to fit neatly together. In this case the deception was plausible, for Spielberg is a Jew and did make a rather terse statement about the film that left me wondering if he was offended by the Passion.

One thing this illusion teaches us is that those caught up in it are neither good nor bad, intelligent or not so intelligent but can be honest students of the path of wisdom or just sincere businesspeople. DK tells us that even the Masters are subject to certain types of illusions. There are numerous veils of illusion that we must pass through as we progress. When the disciple passes through the third initiation he therefore has not conquered all illusion, but instead has laid a foundation of holding his mind steady in the light so the deception behind illusion will manifest itself as he moves forward.

Even though the Spielberg story is a fabrication it does illustrate a very probable reaction that some have to the success of contemporaries. For the sake of this discussion then let us pretend that Spielberg did make that statement about Gibson’s movie.

Where is the illusion?

Remember an illusion is a trick of the mind caused by a missing or distorted piece to the puzzle. The piece our imaginary filmmaker missed was this.

He was offended and made the assumption that he had to pay Gibson back – and perhaps teach him a lesson. Why? Because he assumed Gibson, perhaps because of his Dad, had an anti Jewish bias and felt that he had an impure motive in making the film. Gibson had a subtle hatred toward Jews and thus made a film to nurture this hatred.

Now the problem is this. There is no evidence that Gibson hates Jews at all but probably made the film with the pure motive of portraying something that was dear to his heart.

In other words, Gibson creates a work designed to build something positive with no intent to destroy.

The imaginary filmmaker misread Gibson’s heart and thus incorporates a wrong piece to the puzzle. This distorts his own work in the opposite direction. Instead of working with the motive to create something of value, his motive is to destroy.

This little fictional idea thus illustrates the upside-down direction created by illusionary vision which is often amplified in harm by an impure motive.

One with an impure motive has much difficulty in dispelling an illusion because he desires to hold on to his motive and looks away from the truth which will set him free from it.

Even though the Spielberg story is fabricated I’ll be willing to bet that there are people in powerful circles who are contemplating the making of movies which would be controversial like the Passion, but tear down rather than build up a belief in Christ. I think that whoever started this fabrication picked up some thoughts that are in circulation in the ethers.

That said what is the principle behind the illusion under discussion? We could word it this way.

The deception caused by misreading the intent behind the work of a brother and responding to that work according to imaginary judgment rather than the known truth.

I have seen this illusion appear in a number of individuals in connection with myself. A number of people have seen wrong motive, ego, desire for wealth, power etc as the reason I write and teach. They thus form false conclusions and seek to destroy and pull down rather than create something of value in their own sphere.

  24. Eastern Orthodox (31%)
  25. Jehovah’s Witness (31%)
  26. Roman Catholic (31%)
  27. Seventh Day Adventist (24%)

I think I have to agree with some of you who said that this test is not 100% accurate, but fun to take anyway.

I would like to welcome Lance to the group. I can understand where he is coming from in his posts since I was deeply involved in the LDS church at one time. Even though it seems like a lifetime ago my memories of that mindset are still very clear.

I find that about the only people who understand the Mormon mindset are those who have been through the system. Unless you have been there, it is difficult to understand how powerful the thoughtform is and how difficult it is to free yourself from it. Perhaps only the Jewish religion has such a strong hold as well as Islam to some degree.

Therefore I thought I would take a few minutes tonight and explain several reasons why the Mormon teachings have a such a powerful hold on its members.

The Mormons differ from the typical born-again Christian in this major way – and that is the belief in heaven and hell. The regular Christian sees it as black-and-white that you’re either saved and then go to heaven or you are not saved and you go to hell for eternity.

The Mormon theology gives you a better chance for salvation. They believe that everyone will be saved and enjoy some type of heaven except for those who are condemned to outer darkness by the authorities of the church. These are those who have seen the light and turned away from it. All but these condemned ones, who are called the Sons of Perdition, are in pretty good shape but these suffer a hell of even greater torment than believed by the standard Christian. The Scriptures say that the height, the depth, the width and the breadth of the torment no man knoweth save they who our partakers thereof.

On the other hand, those who go to one of the heavens have a great difference in the reward that they receive, with even the lowest achievers being in good shape compared to mortal earth life.

The glory of the lowest heaven is that of the stars and the worst of men eventually wind up there. The second heaven is equal to the glory of the moon and in this heaven dwells those who did not embraced the Mormon faith, but were good and decent people. In the highest heaven the glory is equal to that of the sun. This is called the celestial kingdom. You have to be a good Mormon to go here. But then we are told there are three divisions to the celestial. The highest one requires covenants made in the temple. And if you attain this heaven you become as one of the gods and enjoy eternal progression and get to live with your family forever and ever.

The average Mormon often says that if he doesn’t make it to the highest kingdom and live with all his family then it’s going to be hell for him. Even if he makes it to one of the lower heavens he doesn’t really feel it will be heaven without his loved ones. So anything the jeopardizes his family getting to the highest heaven is a powerful force in his life.

The highest heaven has a glory equal to the sun and this is where the good Mormons go. But the other good and decent people just go to the glory of the moon. Consider the difference in the rewards. The sun is about a thousand times as bright as the moon. So if you don’t make it to the highest kingdom you are going to be missing out on a lot.

But what terrifies the Mormon even more than losing his family, and even more than missing out on the great glory of the celestial kingdom is being expelled from the church and facing the possibility of becoming a son of perdition living in outer darkness with the devil in his angels for all eternity with no hope of salvation or happiness.

I have presented a number of Mormons with what I considered to be more enlightened teachings. And many of them will listen with interest, but are afraid to act. This fear is summed up in one answer that I was once given that went something like this.

“What you say sounds good, and I think you are correct, but if I followed what you said, and was excommunicated and there was even one chance in a thousand that the church was correct – the thought of suffering as a son of perdition is too overwhelming. I do not want to take that chance. And besides, if there is reincarnation I’ll get another chance. So the safe choice for me is to stay where I am and not upset the apple cart.”

I can understand this because these thoughts crossed my mind as I was pursuing higher knowledge. I thought to myself if “I am wrong I am going to regret this path for all eternity, so I have to be pretty sure I’m correct if I’m going to challenge the teachings of the church.” There was only one way to be sure and that was to obtain soul contact and a witness from the Holy Spirit that God is a loving father and will not condemn you anymore than you would condemn your own child in a similar situation. When I received a spiritual confirmation of this principle I no longer had any fear about pursuing higher knowledge.

Jesus said, “you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” This truth, made me perhaps freer than any other truth I have ever discovered. But a person cannot really appreciate this freedom unless he’s gone through such limitations and has been trapped in such a thoughtform.

To the LDS, Catholics, Seventh-day Adventists or any other religion with a strong authoritative structure my advice to you is to become as a little child and search your soul. Go by the revelation you receive internally, not by the commands you receive externally. This is a path that leads to the peace that passes all understanding. When you achieve this peace you’ll never fear condemnation from authorities again. And remember what the mark of the beast is which is unjust authority – outside authority, which replaces the inward authority of the God within.

What I’ve touched upon today is really one of the most enslaving illusions. It is the illusion that God speaks to our authorities instead of the inward authority of the Holy Spirit. It is the illusion that we are to trust the outer authority more than the inward authority. It is the illusion that God is replaced by man and the outer man or woman is another human being just like yourself and no more speaks for God than you do.

I hope that everyone here can throw off the mark of the beast and accept the mark of God, or the name of God in their foreheads. When you find God within your own self and trust what you find there more than you trust the outer voices you have freed yourself from the mark of the beast.

Illusion 103

Illusion 103

We’ve discussed the illusion of “Peace at any price.” Now we must look the opposite direction. We could call it this: “My country at war is always right.”

To understand this illusion it would help to look again at why such a high percentage of Germans supported Hitler when on hindsight 999 out of a thousand see him as obviously wrong.

One reason he was so successful was that he controlled the populace through fear on the physical plane. Those who did not conform were tortured, imprisoned or killed.

Then on the astral plane he projected the image of one who was unstoppable and always achieved his goals. Acquiring several nations without firing a shot made him a hero.

On the mental plane of illusion he did a number of things that tricked the people into supporting him.

He controlled the information that was fed to the people. This included the press, publishing, radio and education.

By giving the people wrong pieces to the puzzle and suppressing correct ones He was able to manipulate the people toward any illusion he desired.

For instance, many question as to why he was supported in starting World War II by invading Poland when Poland seemed to be doing little harm to anyone.

The reason is that he projected an illusion to the German people that Poland was doing harm to Germany. Hitler fed his people the information that there were many Germans in Poland and they were being mistreated and persecuted and needed to be liberated. Thus many Germans supported the invasion as a righteous war of liberation.

The Germans were caught up in the wrong reason to go to war which is: “Forcible expansion of your nation’s territories or dominion.”

This was the real reason for the war, but because of illusion the Germans thought they were supporting the cause of freedom.

Hitler had one significant advantage during his war. There were no protesters as we have had with the United States. If anyone protested in Nazi Germany they suffered imprisonment or worse.

Many wonder why so many Germans seemed to support the persecution and elimination of the Jews.

Again, this same thing happened. Through the control of information the Germans were taught that Jews were a part of a banking conspiracy which controlled the world and were responsible for the hard economic times the country was having. They were taught the that Jewish race itself was evil and were satanic from the beginning of history.

As the Germans absorbed this propaganda many had no qualms about persecuting and destroying their own neighbors just because they were Jews.

This brings us to the next illusion. Just as there are two sides to the illusion of war even so are there two sides to all illusion. The principle behind the illusionary hatred of the Jews plays out in racism, hatred of other groups, religions, countries and peoples.

Of course an incomplete picture causes this hatred, but the question that must be asked is: “What are the missing pieces?”

To discover the missing pieces we must look at the effect the incomplete picture causes. It causes one to look at his neighbor and see one who is different in a bad way – so bad in fact that they are often seen as evil or a child of the devil himself.

Question: What is a missing piece that will cause one to cease hating his brother and accept him?

Question: What is the other side of the illusion here? If seeing strong differences is one side of the equation, then seeing sameness is another. Explain this illusion of sameness and why it is also destructive.

Vibration Study

I came across this tidbit. It may not be exact truth but it seems headed the right direction.

Vibration Study ~ Dr. David Hawkins

In his book “Power vs. Force,” Dr. David Hawkins provides the results from a study of the vibrations we hold in different states of consciousness, emotion and perceptions.

This is a very short synopsis of some of the basic information you will find in “Power vs. Force” and Dr. Hawkins’ work.

The chart below is a listing of emotions and consciousness with a corresponding number that is attributed to the vibration of those emotions and perspectives. The higher number, the higher the vibration. The lower the number, the lower the vibration.

Shame/Humiliation     20

Guilt/Blame     30

Grief/Regret    75

Fear / Anxiety 100

Desire/Craving      125 (based in a more of lack consciousness)

Anger/Hate     150

Pride/Scorn     175

Courage/Affirmation   200

Neutrality/Trust     250

Willingness/Optimism 310

Acceptance/Forgiveness 350

Reason/Understanding      400

Love/Reverence    500

Joy/Serenity    540

Peace/Bliss      600

Enlightenment/Ineffable 700-1000

The work of Dr. Hawkins further states:

You vibration alone (not your direct actions) impacts humanity as follows

~ One individual who lives and vibrates to the energy of Optimism and a willingness to be nonjudgmental of others will counterbalance the negativity of 90,000 individuals who calibrate at the lower weakening levels.

~One individual who lives and vibrates to the energy of pure love and reverence for all of life will counterbalance the negativity of 750,000 individuals who calibrate at the lower weakening levels.

Illusion 102

Illusion 102

A reader makes a good point when she says: “I would have thought you could say any illusion has missing or hidden pieces as isn’t all illusion a result of skewed vision?”

Yes, in every illusion has as part of its cause – a truth or piece of the puzzle which is hidden, or not seen, or the pieces not arranged properly.

Let us say you are putting together a puzzle of a 1000 pieces and only one piece has red in it. You have all the pieces together except the one red one. A friend looks at the picture created and comments – the picture has all the colors represented but no red.

The friend is a victim of illusion because the picture his viewing is missing the red piece. The only way he can overcome the illusion is to find the truth, that the final piece is red. Until he discovers this the illusion that the whole picture has no red will have power over him.

Until he finds the final piece what can he do to minimize the illusion?

The important point is that he must not assume the final piece contains no red. He must remain open to all possibilities. The person who is truly immersed in illusion will maintain a preconceived notion as to the image of the last piece. He who makes such an assumption is fully enslaved by the illusion.

In our reality there is rarely only one missing piece but a number of them and there is not one puzzle but layers of them. To overcome all things the pieces must be found and seen and the layers must all overlap and fit.

Paul said that the last enemy to be destroyed is death. The true enemy to overcoming death is illusion so we could word this as: “The last illusion to be destroyed (or overcome) is death.

Why is death the last illusion? Because all other illusions must be seen and solved before this last illusion can be properly seen. There are a number of pictures that must first be seen before the big picture can be understood. Therefore, to attempt to overcome death before the preliminary pictures are put together would be a fruitless effort.

This same principle applies to many illusions that face us. We have heard that A, B and C are illusions, but we may be a long way from understanding the whole picture which will reveal the truth so the illusion can be understood and dissipated as the morning sun evaporates the fog.

That said, let us dispel one more illusion. Let us examine the “Peace at any price,” deception.

It is true that those who buy into this have pieces to the puzzle missing, but what are the pieces?

Here are pieces that need to be considered:

(1) Suppressed hatred and differences are not a sign of true peace. Tyrants establish illusionary peace when they are in power because people are afraid to speak up.

Inactivity is not a sign of true peace.

(2) It is not worth the risk to escape a little pain now at the risk of great pain and destruction later.

This illusionary step to achieve peace was the cause of World War II. Europe did not suffer a small pain to stop Hitler when it would have been easy and instead suffered great pain for their mistake. The temporary peace was not worth it.

(3) Many think that death is the worst thing that can happen to us.

The truth is that loss of liberty is worse than the loss of life due to a just war. A war that ends suffering and frees the human soul is justified.

Now we must realize that just as some are against war because of illusion there are times that nations are deceived in going to war through illusion.

Explain how illusion can lead to an unjustified war.

Question: Why do you say the person who claims there is no red is in illusion for there is no red without the red piece?

JJ: When I refer to the picture I am talking about the complete picture, not the picture missing a piece or pieces. Both the friend and the person with the puzzle realize this. The friend is assuming with surety that the final piece will have no red because all appearances point that direction. This assumption that you know what is in the missing pieces reveals the principle wherein illusion lies.

Those who are in glamour but not yet able to even see or comprehend illusion will look at the incomplete picture and not question whether it is complete or not but just seek to enjoy and benefit from what they see.

Those who are able to approach illusion, yet trapped in it will question the completeness of the picture, but have wrong assumptions concerning the missing pieces or even be unaware of how many missing pieces there are.

I usually reject posts containing hate Bush talk or against anyone else, but since we are on the topic of illusion and there are so many of these floating around the internet I thought I would let this through for entertainment value.

Let us examine this post which is embedded with illusion and glamour by one who calls himself Elijah.

Elijah: The greatest holocaust ever is near to start in the near future in America by this evil Illuminati-led government under Adolf George Bush now. Every day the writings of Mein Kampf that Hitler used is being implemented in America which in general is asleep as to what is happening. This Homeland Security is liken to Adolf Hitler’s Gestapo in all its secret doings all over the country. After having done away with the Constitution of America and its Bill of rights, America is under U.N. mandate laws that now govern this land that used to be free.

JJ: There is so much illusion and deception in this paragraph that it makes your head spin.

It was only weeks after Hitler assumed office that his Gestapo forces were sifting out citizens in each neighborhood and torturing them on their front laws to put the fear of God in the hearts of all the German people who may consider speaking out.

The Homeland security is nothing like anything Hitler had and Hitler would have never waited three years to enslave his country.

I don’t think this guy has read Mein Kampf or the history of Hitler’s Germany or he would feel foolish making such comparisons. He has many missing pieces of information here making him subject to many illusions.

Elijah: George Bush has ordered 100,000 big white boxcars with shackles in them to gather and hold those resistors to their dictatorship. It is being implemented to force all people to accept this Biochip with the Mark of their beast and his name and number in it. If you resist, then you go to the termination building. You go in one door and come out another door as ash. It is liken to Hitler’s Germany, but this time it will be for resisting Christians and all Jewish people whose names they have placed on their list for extermination. The rest of the masses will be herded around like slaves as in Adolf Hitler’s time, or even as the Russian people who were not Communists.

JJ: It is amazing that anyone can believe this nonsense. I have heard stories like this circulated about every president in office for over 30 years. People are always supposed to be rounded up any day, but nothing ever happens.

A dictatorship could happen here or anywhere else if we are not diligent, but it will not happen under George W. Bush. There is always a possibility that a great crisis could force us to take drastic measures as happened in the Civil War and World War II. Consider that during the Civil War many accused Lincoln of being a tyrant and many pacifists during World War II thought the United States was as much at fault as Germany. This thinking was based on illusion.

Elijah: In America today they have slave labour camps already built to hold men, women, and children as Adolf Hitler had. There is a big one in Alaska which can hold many thousands of persons, all divided up for men, women and children. All this goes on while the American people have been asleep in their prosperous lives. But their day will come when in order to hold onto what they have gathered, they will have to accept the mark of the beast, his name, and his number 6-6-6 in a biochip implant, or off they go into one of these 100,000 big white boxcars with shackles in them all done by this so-called Christian President George Bush.

JJ: Again, I have heard this thrown around for over 30 years. Those boxcars must be rusting by now and the slave labor camps must be in need of repair through lack of use.

Elijah: Oh wake up, people of America that used to be free. You have been had by this Skull and Bones member who drinks human blood to a giant stone owl god named Molech at Bohemian Grove in California, where most of our high government officials go to as Illuminati Masonic Satanists that they are.

JJ: There’s no evidence (that I have seen) that George W,. Bush ever attended the Bohemian Grove. The stories I have read about this are written to make these gatherings sound as sinister as possible. From what I can gather it is like a fraternal organization but this is the first I have heard of the blood drinking accusation.

During the dark ages those clothed in darkness accused the Jews of drinking the blood of Christians. This gave them the excuse to persecute and kill many thousands of them. This blood drinking accusation is an old trick of the Dark Brothers.

A reader mentions that Elijah has made prophesies that did not come true. Why am I not surprised? Elijah wins the prize for the illusionary post of the month.

I know of no higher fortitude than stubbornness in the face of overwhelming odds.

Thoughts on The Coming of Christ

Thoughts on The Coming of Christ

A reader raises some interesting questions about the return of Christ. First she says she thinks that he would come back as a male entity. I don’t recall ever reading any authoritarian source saying this before. Most people do, however, expect him to come back as a male, but there’s no revelation on this fact. He could certainly come back as a female entity, if he so chooses. I believe what I did say in the past is this that it is most likely he would come back as a male, because this would give him a strong sending energy which he will need. But that doesn’t mean that he won’t do the unexpected.

She later makes this statement:

From my understanding about male and female units, the male *sends* and the female *receives*. Therefore if Christ is in female form this time around, then she will be receiving from us and we will be sending to her. This might cause a bit of an upset, because we wont have much to teach her LOL.

JJ: The student cannot be polarized as a sender to the teacher. If Christ comes as a female his polarization would not be female energy in relation to us, but male. Instead, the female emphasis would be in relation to another entity still higher than himself, such as Sanat Kumara.

His situation as a female would be something like Alice A. Bailey or H. P. Blavatsky who send to their students, but receive from others higher than themselves.

Therefore, if Christ comes as a female his/her emphasis would be on the teachings and energy of one higher than him (as DK was to Alice A. Bailey), but if he comes as a male, the emphasis will be on his direct teachings as was the case with the Buddha.

Next she says that we expect Christ to be a prominent person for everyone would know his name. It’s true, of course, that when his mission is completed the whole world will know about him, this may not be the case when he begins his mission. It’s quite possible he could work for years in obscurity before he gets a lot of public attention. That this may be the case lies in the fact that the disciples of the world are currently having difficulty getting recognized, whereas the charlatans gain easy access to public attention

Next she indicates the Christ may have an assumed name. He will not come with the name of Jesus or Christ but could comes as John or Paul or Rick or some other name. Believe me, anyone that introduces himself as Jesus in this age is going to be laughed out of existence. When Christ comes again, he will have to prove himself by his works and by his intelligence, and by the power of this thought.

Next she asks, is he going to settle in a certain area of the world straightaway or will he be a wanderer?

Of course we’re not told many details about his coming mission, but I don’t think he will be wanderer. I believe he will have a base and from that base will operate and travel when necessary, and eventually have a strong influence over the entire world.

Next question. If you are true follower will you need to be right next door to Christ or in the same region as him?

No. Back in ancient times you had to be in his proximity in order to receive instruction from him. But this is not the case today with our improved communication systems, the internet and international media. There are numerous ways that he can communicate with disciples without being in their physical presence.

Then she asks, will he be able to move freely around the world gathering this flock or will parts of that flock be scattered all over the world?

The answer is both are correct. He will be able to move around the world in as he desires, with perhaps a few restrictions because of different laws of the various countries. I believe that when he comes he will apply the principle of the gathering and will have gathered around him quiet a few disciples and believers dedicated to his cause.

She wonders how many disciples he will have around him in this age. DK gives an interesting statement on this. He says that there will be 9000 disciples working around Christ. This will definitely give him more of a power base than he had last time around.

Will Christ work solely on the mental and telepathic levels more than verbal?

When he overshadows disciples, he’lll work more on the mental levels. If and when he decides to appear in a physical body of his own, of course, he will talk and teach just like you or I do.

The last time he talked about love and sacrifice as the central teachings. Will that be the case this time around, or will he teach something entirely different?

The answer is this: He will clarify many of this past teachings when he comes again. But in addition to what was given in the past he will present many new teachings. He will also elaborate on teachings that are not so new, but were not give entirely by him last time. DK tells us that one of these teachings that he will clarify what the reincarnation. He didn’t say much on this the last time around, but he will teach a lot about it the next time.

She ends with this statement – I just hope that when he is here in the physical, history does not repeat itself and humans assassinate him once again.

If any of you went to see the movie The Passion of the Christ I would think that if you put yourself in his place you wouldn’t want to go through something like that again. Instead, you would arrange this coming as an opportunity to concentrate on life, instead of death. I believe this will be the case. Last time he came he showed us how to die with courage. This time he will show us how to live with abundance.

The early bird gets the worm. Some reward! Bazooka Joe

The Mysteries of A Course in Miracles, Chapter 9

Chapter Nine
The Bold Adventure

Concerning the separation, the typical ACIM student interprets it this way. The Son (representing all of us) got this mad idea in his head – that creating a universe of time and space where each life is separate from other lives – would be a good thing to do. Thus was a dream world of illusion made, and all of us are trapped in it until we awaken.

On the other hand, a careful reading of the Course reveals there is more to the story than this.

In Helen Schucman’s transcription before the edits, we read this about the separation:

After the separation began “Many Souls offered their efforts on behalf of the Separated Ones but they could not withstand the strength of the attack, and had to be brought back. Angels came, too, but their protection was not enough, because the Separated ones were not interested in peace. They had already split themselves, and were bent on dividing rather than reintegrating. The levels they introduced into themselves turned against each other, and they, in turn, turned against each other. They established differences, divisions, cleavages, dispersion, and all the other concepts related to the increasing splits they produced. Not being in their Right Minds, they turned their defenses from protection to assault, and acted literally insanely.” UR T 2 B 43-44

A key statement is that “Many souls offered their efforts on behalf of the separated ones. But they could not withstand the strength of the attack and had to be brought back.”

This tells us that not all the Sons of God became separated. Instead, there were many who stayed in heaven and never entered the dream state or the illusion.

This is verified in this quote

“The world is an illusion. Those who choose to come to it are seeking for a place where they can be illusions, and avoid their own reality.” W-pI.155.2

Notice the wording here: “Those who choose to come…” This tells us that there was a choice to come or not to come and obviously the Sons of God lined up on both sides of this great decision.

This puts a very different light on the orthodox view that the Son as a whole entered into the separation.

The story of the Prodigal Son, which is used in the Course, supports this view. It is interesting that in the earliest Christian writings the parable was not called “The Prodigal Son,” but “A Story of Two Sons.”

It may be helpful to examine the whole parable:

“And he said, A certain man had two sons: And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

“And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

“And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

“And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

“But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

“Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing. And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.

“And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound.

“And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him. And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.

“And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.” Luke 15:11-32

From the Course we read: “Listen to the story of the prodigal son, and learn what God’s treasure is and yours:” T-8.VI.4

This verifies that the parable was an actual teaching presented by the Master and should be taken seriously by Course students.

The first thing we learn is that the sons were divided into two groups. The Prodigal left home and went to the far country. This represents the billions of us who came here to this material world which is “far” from heaven.

The other older son would similarly represent a large number who stayed home with the Father.

Here is an interesting reference dividing Sons, even among the Prodigals, into older and young with Jesus being the older

“You stand below me and I stand below God. In the process of “rising up,” I am higher because without me the distance between God and man would be too great for you to encompass. I bridge the distance as an elder brother to you on the one hand, and as a Son of God on the other.” T-1.II.4

What percentage of the Sons left? Perhaps a clue is given in the Book of Revelation that tells us that a third of the residents fell from heaven. (See Rev 12:4)

This is in harmony with the quote noted earlier from the Course telling us of Sons who did not fall, but tried to prevent the separation.

Also of note is that the one who stayed at home was the older, and the one who separated was the younger and Jesus now returned to heaven is called an “elder brother.”

As we presented in Chapter Five, the Sons of God also have Sons. For instance: “The Kingdom of God includes all His Sons AND THEIR CHILDREN, who are as like the Sons as they are like the Father.” T-7.XI.7

The Son which is “A co-creator with the Father must have a Son. Yet must this Son have been created like Himself. “ T-24.III.6

Because the Sonship is ever extending, there would be something akin to older and younger sons in heaven. On earth we see that many of our young children tend to have a natural skepticism of the parents’ teachings and ways of doing things, and want to strike out on their own. Thus, it was in the parable, the younger, less experienced son who wanted to leave behind that which always was and try something new, seeking new experiences. After all, it is possible the older son had his own prodigal past and had learned his lessons.

It is assumed by students that there was just one separation, the Son as a whole entered the dream, the solution was implemented, and that was it. It is over and done when and  when we wake up it will be as if nothing ever happened or will happen again.

When you think of it, this makes no sense and doesn’t even harmonize with the Course’s teachings. According to the Course, the creation of Sons is the way that God extends His kingdom. This has apparently been going on from eternity with God extending Himself many times – thousand, billions, trillions of times or more. Do you think that there was only one batch of Sons who wanted to separate and play in the worlds of time and space and then it was over, never to be considered again? Does it make sense that there would be no more prodigals and no new children would have any curiosity about what life would be like in such a world?

The Course gives some powerful clues that the Prodigal making the separation was not just one occurrence but has happened many times:

“Time really, then, goes backward to an instant so ancient that it is beyond all memory, and past even the possibility of remembering. Yet because it is an instant that is relived again and again and still again, it seems to be now. … The world of time is the world of illusion. What happened long ago seems to be happening now. Choices made long since appear to be open; yet to be made. What has been learned and understood and long ago passed by is looked upon as a new thought, a fresh idea, a different approach.” M-2.3 & 4

We are told clearly here that the beginning of time, which was the beginning of the separation, “goes backward to an instant so ancient that it is beyond all memory, and past even the possibility of remembering.” M-2.3

That is indeed a description of something that happened a very very long time ago. Perhaps it was farther back than the beginning of this universe. Perhaps thousands of universes have come and gone since this first manifestation of time at the first separation conceived by the first group of Sons.

This makes sense since it says that this instant of separation “is relived again and again and still again, it seems to be now.”

The orthodox interpretation is that there is no reliving, but the Son rebelled one time with his mad idea and after he wakes up that will be it.

What is overlooked is that the creation of Sons is an eternal process and it is only logical that new sons would access the ancient memories along with the ideas of time and space and want to try them out.

The first event happened “So very long ago, for such a tiny interval of time, that not one note in Heaven’s song was missed. Yet in each unforgiving act or thought, in every judgment and in all belief in sin, is that one instant still called back, as if it could be made again in time. You keep an ancient memory before your eyes. And he who lives in memories alone is unaware of where he is.” T-26.V.5

The first separation was apparently a lot more disruptive than realized, for we are told that it “shattered heaven.” T-18.I.12 But then God implemented a solution with the creation of the Holy Spirit and eventually all the prodigals in that first round returned home awake, safe and sound in their right minds.

After this, heaven was no longer shattered by prodigal sons reliving the event and entering the dream, for it was established that the sleep could only last an instant (which could be millions of years) and all would safely return, making heaven complete.

This resolves the confusing idea presented by the Course that makes it sound to some like the separation never happened and we are not here on earth. The first separation happened very anciently, and the problem was solved and no longer exists in heaven, yet new prodigal sons can enter a dream state and relive the event as if it is happening to us now.

And why would Sons want to do that? One significant reason is the desire for children to play games.

After all, there are no games in heaven, for there is no duality or competition and younger sons especially want to play games. The Course tells us that the desire to play games was one of the motivations for the separation:

“The dream of judgment is a children’s game, in which the child becomes the father, powerful, but with the little wisdom of a child.” T-29.IX.6

We are told that heaven is a “place where truth abides and games are meaningless.” W-pI.153.14 It only makes sense then that there is always a percentage of the new creation of Sons who want to play games which are not available in heaven.

Just look around you and witness the great attraction that we as humans have for games. We pay our sports heroes many millions and they are idolized by many. Most everyone at one time or another either plays or watches a game and finds it a source of great pleasure even though there are winners and losers – which the Course says is contrary to the order of heaven. It is also of note that many esoteric and wisdom teachings tell us that we are attracted to the game aspect of material life and even call this existence “the playground of the Gods.”

These wisdom teachings also tell us that the first separation from Spirit was so ancient that it is basically an eternity ago and repeats many times just as ACIM says. But each separation involves a new group of evolving lives, or “Sons” as ACIM would say.

The parable tells us that the prodigal took with him his inheritance of the Father. That inheritance that belongs to the Son of God (us) is all the Father has, for the Father and Son are one and share all things through mind: “you are of one mind and spirit with Him (God).” T-5.VII.3

“There is only one Mind” UR T 2 B 26

“The mind is very powerful, and never loses its creative force. It never sleeps. Every instant it is creating. … All thinking produces form at some level.” T-2.VI.9

So how much power is wielded by the Son?

“There is now no limit on his (the Son’s) power, because it is the power of God.” M-23.2

The Son shares with the Father the ultimate power. We are told that God “has made you co-creator of the universe along with Him. He would but keep your will forever and forever limitless.” T-30.II.4

“What lies in you has joined with God Himself in all creation’s birth. Remember Him Who has created you, and through your will created everything. Not one created thing but gives you thanks, for it is by your will that it was born. No light of Heaven shines except for you, for it was set in Heaven by your will.” T-30.II.3

This indeed presents a glorious picture of the power that is in us but unrealized in this world of illusion. We are also told this:

“What God and His Sons create is eternal.” T-8.VI.3.

Basically, the Course does not consider something a creation unless it is eternal. It usually uses the word “make” when referring to the creation of things not eternal.

So, in that ancient time, beyond all memory, the Father and the Son shared the same mind and were busy extending the creations of God when the Son came up with the “mad idea.” Now keep in mind that when this idea surfaced, the Son was not asleep, but fully awake. Because it was conceived when the Son was awake it is written that “the thought become a serious idea, and possible of both accomplishment and real effects.” T-27.VIII.6

We are told that there are no real (or eternal) effects in the dream state, but an idea conceived in the waking or eternal state has eternal consequences.

The interesting thing is that this eternal idea consisted of creating that which is not eternal, and an idea conceived in unification proposed the existence of a universe with diverse dualities.

So, what happens then when an eternal mind creates that which is not eternal? Sounds like an impossible conundrum, but not quite.

Now the orthodox ACIM view is that the Son entered the dream state, the Father created the Holy Spirit to reach out to us and the problem was solved. We are all awake in heaven and only think we are here on earth. The problem is solved never to be entertained again.

But it is not that simple, since the idea was conceived when the Son was fully awake. This means that the universe of temporary things is eternal. This does seem like a mad idea, but here is how I believe it worked out.

In that far away time beyond any memory the Son had the idea and executed it. In turn the Father executed His plan, the temporary universe disappeared, and the Son returned. The problem was solved for that generation of Sons. But then the existing Sons extended the creation of God by fathering new sons, and some of these were captivated by the crazy idea and wanted to play games in a new universe of duality. Thus, a new universe was created and history repeated itself. “What happened long ago seems to be happening now. “ M-2.3 This process has repeated itself an astonishing number of times. In relation to eternity, the birth and death of a universe is a mere instant.

So then, the eternal mind of the Son did create the eternal out of something temporary for the universes come and go forever. This gives a clue about it:

an idea is free, incapable of being kept in prison or limited in any way except by the mind that thought it. For it remains joined to its source, which is its jailer or its liberator, according to which it chooses as its purpose for itself. T-19.I.16.

Because the idea is eternal and cannot be destroyed, it continues to be recycled and applied again and again by new generations of sons. So that which is made in time has an end, but the creative process is eternal since it was initiated by an eternal mind. Thus, we have temporary universes of form appearing, disappearing and reappearing endlessly.

It is interesting that even in this separated state the power of eternal creation still exists, but is not used.

“It may surprise you to learn that had the ego willed to do so, it COULD have made the eternal, because, as a product of the mind, it IS endowed with the power of its own creator. But the DECISION to do this, rather than the ABILITY to do it is what the ego cannot tolerate.” UR T 4 F 13

This interpretation of multiple separations puts A Course in Miracles in alignment with many teachings from the east and the Ancient Wisdom, which tells us of an eternal reappearance of universes and new souls to inhabit them, whereas the old souls obtain liberation and move on to a heavenly state as in the teachings of nirvana, the great pralaya or return to Spirit.

Indeed, ACIM tells us that it is not the only course teaching us about the path of return, but it does give us some great clues as to how to speed up the process.

Illusion 101

Illusion 101

Glenys made an interesting point that goes along with a train of thought that I thought we would pursue as a class.

In the past we have talked about maya, glamour and illusion, three properties that distract the seeker’s attention away from the truth so he will focus on that which is false. Any such diversion of attention creates a grave problem for the seeker and can cost him lifetimes of effort before he gets on track.

Of these three influences illusion is the most subtle and difficult to dissolve so the fog can be lifted. Now it is realized that there is illusion of sorts in all three categories, but we are talking about illusion on the mental plane which is in a category by itself. Many would-be disciples spend lifetimes of effort on wrong paths because of just one such illusion that captivates their thought.

Therefore, what we are going to do for a while is go beyond theory and discuss real illusions that captivate many who are good, bad, rich, poor, intelligent and not so intelligent.

I want you all to contemplate illusions that affect much of humanity. We will then itemize them in the form of a permanent list that we will update from time to time.

We will start with the illusion Glenys presented in her post by quoting her:

Quoting Glenys:

Someone has written to me suggesting that I am an anti-conservationist and do not care for the environment by expressing the view below.

Here is my response.

Well, I do regard myself as a conservationist and I have probably done more than most to walk the talk.

I have planted trees on an island near where I live in the hopes of attracting bird life back to it, I support nature reserves, both financially and through volunteer work, and generally support any attempts to create environments conducive to life, including ‘safe’ environments where natural predators are eliminated to give diminishing species a change to recover.

But I do think there should be some balance in how we approach prolonging the form when it is clear that it has outlived its usefulness to the life within it. To me, an analogy is prolonging a human form by artificial means eg life support when the soul has already withdrawn the life aspect.

Spending millions of dollars on preserving species that are on their way to extinction is a questionable use of funds, in my view. I would rather we spent the money on assisting animals that are still evolving within their present forms.

In NZ we have many species which are dying out and to commit vast resources to preserving, for example, 12 birds on a remote island, is stupid, in my view.

But I realize this view goes against prevailing conservationist ideals and am used to people thinking I do not care as a result.

As far as I know, I am a minority of one on this matter so there is no need to be concerned that my view holds much sway 🙂 End Quote.

So what illusion can we conclude from this logic she presents?

Illusion One: It is not always good to artificially save a species just because it is endangered. Species come and go. They are born and they die and when the time comes for them to go then it becomes an evil rather than a good to interfere and attempt to prevent their demise.

Question: Is the solution to this illusion black and white? Should we not seek to save any species or should we seek to save them all – or does the second Key of judgment apply again?

Assignment: Contemplate other illusions which prevail in the world and post them. If they past the test we will include them on the final list.

We’ll end with a quote from DK:

“In the case of the subhuman kingdoms in nature, death is the direct result of this obscure activity of the planet. The only idea as to its functioning which I can give you is that the soul of all non-human forms of life is an inherent aspect of the substance of which the planet is itself constructed; this soul can be withdrawn according to cycles, undetermined yet by science but fixed and certain in their working-apart from great planetary accidents or the direct action of the fourth kingdom in nature. This innate planetary power leads to the death of an animal and-in the larger sweep of evolution-to the extinction of a species; it leads also in time to the death of the forms of the vegetable kingdom and is also one of the causes which leads to the autumnal cycle in the year, producing the “sere, the yellow leaf,” the loss of verdure in the grass, and those cyclic manifestations which indicate not alone death, upon a temporary and passing scale, but the complete cessation of vitality within a form. “Times of perishing” are cyclic manifestations of the “destroyer aspect” within the planet itself. These are necessarily difficult matters for you to grasp.” Esoteric Healing, Page 244

A mistaken notion is not necessarily illusion. A wrong assimilation of a fact is not an illusion but can often be traced to illusion. The difficulty in understanding this is that a person has to achieve a degree of enlightenment to even understand what an illusion is – even though people of all stages can be tricked by them.

There is illusion in understanding the life and death of species for the truth is revealed in an understanding of the law of cycles. To see an illusion one must trace the deception back to the principle which is misunderstood or misapplied. Usually a true illusion will deceive the vast majority of the people.

If we approach illusion on a technical basis we could name millions of them, or at least their effects. This is not what we are after. For instance, we have heard many times that death is an illusion. But if anyone really understood this then they would never die. Since we have no examples of immortals here then we can assume that no one here is able to dispel this illusion. We do not want to talk about illusions that no one in the group can assimilate or understand. What we are looking for are “Next Step” illusions for the general seeker. We have to dispel the cloud covering the next step before we can even consider step two or three etc.

The illusion directly affecting the seeker is the one that has to be faced and will be dispelled by those who are ready and not attached to dogma.

That said let us pick on a brave member and examine her list.

Proposed Illusion:

Love – I’m going to love you forever. Wrong! (Well you can love the soul for eternity, but not the body.)

JJ: comment: Actually we do love each other forever and most people realize they are loving something more than a physical body. The illusion connected around love is in this statement which is accepted by about 99% of the people:

“Love cannot be defined.”

If love cannot be defined then talking about any illusion connected with it is an exercise in futility.

Contemplate where the true principle of illusion is playing out here.

Proposed Illusion:

Death – When I’m dead that’s it! When someone dies, I’m never going to see them again and the list goes on and on. Wrong!

JJ: Comment: The far majority of the people do believe in life after death – I believe the figure approaches around 80-90%. This is therefore not a deception that captures the attention of the majority.

How about the atheist then? Is he caught in illusion? The truth is usually the opposite of what people think. The man often becomes an atheist because he sees through a number of items that deceive tradition believers. He sees the illogic of believing in a white-haired man sitting on a throne listening to every prayer, crying over every sin and being interested in details of our lives that would bore our neighbor to tears. He decides to base his beliefs on real evidence that can be detected with his senses.

The atheist is like all of us. He is moving to his next step in his progression, but is caught up in an illusion that prevents him from seeing his next vista of truth.

The atheist is caught up in an illusion that prevents him from seeing God. Can you tell us what it is?

Hint: Many believers are also caught up in the same illusion.

Proposed Illusion:

Money – If I had a million dollars I would be soooooo happy! Wrong.

JJ: Response: How many people claim to believe that money does not bring happiness? Just about everyone. This tells us that the illusion is in the opposite direction.

Here is what studies tell us about people who do make reasonable money.

(1) They are happier

(2) They have much better health

(3) They are in better physical shape and better looking than the poor.

(4) They are better educated and more likely to explore the meaning of life.

(5) Those who have achieved wealth through their own efforts have a strong sense of achievement.

(6) They usually have reasonable common sense.

Both rich and poor have their problems but it is an illusion to think that abundance will not enhance our happiness, especially if used wisely.

Proposed Illusion

Happiness – The only things that can make you truly happy are …….an endless list of wants and don’t haves. Wrong!

JJ: Response: Illusion does cloud the path of true happiness. This subject is too vast to explore in this post.

Proposed Illusion

Religion – If you believe in Jesus and God you will be saved! Ummm

JJ: response: There is illusion here and it is connected with the word “saved.”

Proposed Illusion

Beauty – You are only beautiful if you have blonde hair, big boobs, long legs and stay 20. Wrong! (Sorry, just had to add this one).

JJ: Response: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder(s) to a large degree.

Proposed Illusion

Beliefs – I cannot change my beliefs because I’m too old! Wrong!

JJ: Response: Actually, according to DK some people are too old. He tells us that about 90% of the people crystallize in their mid fifties and are unable to make further progress in this life.

Proposed Illusion

Health – Im sick because………..all sorts of reasons but never the right one!

JJ: Response: Misleading glamour and wrongly directed emotion are more of the cause of deception around health than is illusion – though illusion can effect the more highly evolved.

Proposed Illusion: War on Iraq – The Americans wanted the oil! Wrong.

JJ: Response: But what is causing this misconception?

Proposed Illusion:

Greenpeace – Save the Whales etc.    Wrong.

JJ: Response: Actually whales and some species do need assistance whereas others are rightfully near the end of their cycle.

Proposed Illusion

Equal Rights – Still not equal because a lot of men won’t do their share of the housework LOL. Wrong.

JJ: Response: To find the illusion here we must look at the true differences between men and women.

Proposed Illusion

Gays – Are only like that because of their Mums etc. Wrong.

JJ: Response: There is indeed a lot of illusion associated with gays and it is held by all even the gays themselves. The principle involved relates to reincarnation and the law of cycles again. I have written quite a bit on this in the archives.

Glenys wrote:

We have discussed this illusion quite a lot so I won’t go into details but one biggie is the ‘war is always wrong/peace at any price’ brigade.

I responded with:

This is a good one, but we have to understand the principle that causes this illusionary vision. What is it that causes many to choose peace at any price? In other words, what is it that causes the deceptive conclusion?

Then Glenys wrote:

Well, I suppose if illusion is a distorted truth, the principle would be a misunderstanding and misapplication of the Law of Love.

On second thought, maybe it’s more a misapplication of a subsidiary Law, the Law of Right Relations.

JJ: Response: Good thought but I would submit that the core cause of the illusion relates to the angle of vision. Those who are caught in illusion here see a small piece of the picture whereas those who are free of it see the big picture.

Some who want war, even when justified, are also motivated for the right reason. Only a handful see the big picture to the extent they know when to fight and when not too.

“And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.” Rev 19:11

Preparing for the Master

Preparing for the Master

The Question: When we examine a teacher, a book, or school of thought and find something that does not register with our truth detector – does this mean that we should write the whole thing off?

What is the approach of the true seeker?

Is it likely that he will completely agree with a representative of the Brotherhood of Light?

Do you think that sincere seekers will agree 100% with Christ when he comes?

Someone mentioned that we have covered this subject before. While it is true that we have talked about the quest for truth many times I think you will find that I am seeking for a different angle of vision when we revisit a subject. The questions will always have a different slant to reveal another piece of the elephant.

These questions highlight a perpetual problem that face all world teachers major and minor. Too many look at the teacher the way they would a piece of data. A piece of data is either all true or all false. For instance 2+2=4 is either completely true or completely false.

The student often takes the mistaken approach to a teacher of philosophy. The result of this approach is usually disaster. Such a student will think he has discovered an infallible source when he finds a teacher with whom he agrees. The trouble is the one with the black and white approach will usually find something with which he disagrees. When this happens he will then write off all the good things that come from the teacher.

Notice I use the word “usually?” This is because the black and white person sometimes becomes so mesmerized by his initial teacher that he forms the solid conclusion that he can do not wrong. Therefore, if he is told to meet a flying saucer on a mountaintop and it does not show up he will make an excuse for the leader and still starkly believe.

I ask the interesting question as to whether a true seeker would agree with Christ himself if he should meet and be taught of him.

We received some insightful answers on this but I’ll add a few words.

Many think that if they met the Christ that they would not only instantly recognize him but also just know that they would realize that all of his teachings are true.

Believe me it will not be that simple. If you think the president is a polarizing figure who separates people into two sides of the equation wait until you get a load of the Master himself.

DK says this:

“The Factor of the Ray of Love-Wisdom as it controls the Ray of Harmony through Conflict and implements the Return of the Christ

“In the first paragraph of this instruction, I ascribed the inevitability of Christ’s imminent return to the decision of humanity to precipitate the existent conflict on to the physical plane, thus determining the sphere of Christ’s activity. In earlier teachings also I have pointed out that He might come in one of three ways or in all three of them simultaneously. The issues which have emerged as the result of the conflict upon the physical plane, and of its shifting (by man’s decision) today on to the mental plane, have made completely evident the fact that the locale of Christ’s influence will be, therefore, the entire three worlds Of human evolution, which naturally includes the physical levels of experience and demands His physical Presence.” Rays and Initiations, Pages 614-615

Notice that he says that the conflict which exists among humanity will determine the “locale” of his influence? He has told us that there must be relative physical stability before the Second Coming, but this will not be the case in the astral and mental levels. There will be a lot of conflict on these levels and the presence of the Christ will only increase the tension.

Sincerity is a big aid in the quest for truth but this alone does not insure the student will always be able to bypass his illusions and dogmas and be 100% accurate in embracing the truths presented to him. When Christ does come many of these sincere people will find themselves rejecting him as a false teacher. The only thing that will correct them will be their own souls. To obtain the necessary soul contact requires a step beyond sincerity and that is an openness that will allow the seeker to question his long held beliefs and reassess them periodically with new teachings that cross his path from time to time.

Even the most astute student will have some problems with the Master for he will learn some information that he will have to take on faith to a degree. This does not mean he will accept blindly, but he will exercise his faith and test that which he does not know until he does know. Those who are stuck in their illusions will not apply the necessary tests and may wind up rejecting the Master.

In the meantime we can practice sensing truth and true teaching by listening to each other and sorting out that which is true and that which may not be true.

As I’ve said many times before, the attainment of regular soul contact is the best insurance we can attain in order to recognize true teachers and their connection with Spiritual forces.
