The Lords of the Rays and the Heavenly Men

The Lords of the Rays and the Heavenly Men

Not only are these two titles used interchangeably but the Heavenly Men are known by a plethora of different names such as The seven planetary Logoi or Spirits, The Prajapatis, The seven Lords of the Rays, The Dyhan Chohans, The seven Spirits before the Throne, The seven Archangels, The seven Logoi and The seven Builders. See TCF, Page 233

The numerous titles for one basic set of beings produce some confusion, but one must realize that the various titles do signify some differentiation that is worth examining.

The main two titles used by DK for these exalted beings are “The Lords of the Rays” and the “Heavenly Men.” The meaning of the two titles do overlap, but are not exactly the same. One of the clearest distinctions DK has made is that he says he says the ray entities “may be regarded as constituting the brain of the divine Heavenly Man.” Esoteric Psychology, Vol 1, Page 60

A Heavenly Man in DK’s writings refers to a logos of a planet within our solar system. Usually, it is referring to one of the seven sacred planets but it could be extended to refer to other logoi such as Earth or Mars.

Then there are higher logoi such as the one over our entire solar system. He calls this being a “Grand Heavenly Man.”

When DK speaks of a Lord of the Rays, he is speaking of this entity’s work in relation to one of the seven rays rather than a planet. For instance, Earth and Saturn are both governed by Ray Three and there would be one main entity that would be a Lord over this ray embraced by two Heavenly Men. Because there are two planets involved there would also be a second Lord that would also work with that ray.

Concerning the seven main Lords DK says: “The energies of these seven Lives however are not confined to their planetary expressions, but sweep around the confines of the solar system just as the life impulses of a human being—his vital forces, his desire impulses, and his mental energies—sweep throughout his body, bringing the various organs into activity and enabling him to carry out his intent, to live his life, and to fulfill the objective for which he created his body of manifestation. Esoteric Psychology, Vol 1, Page 62

In addition, the Lords of the Rays extend way beyond our solar system for the whole physical universe is created by the interplay of the seven rays.

Here he makes some differentiation between a Lord of a Ray and a planetary Logos:

“When we speak of ray energy we are in reality considering the quality and the will-purpose aspect of a certain great Life to Whom we give the name ‘Lord of a Ray.’…. His divine intention, will, purpose, or the determined projection of His mind, creates a radiation or stream of energy which—according to type and quality—plays upon all forms of manifested life within our planetary ring-pass-not. These Lords of the Rays are the creating and sustaining energies which implement the Will of the planetary Logos. They cooperate with Him in the defining and the expression of His supreme purpose.” Rays and Initiations, Page 568

Whereas a Heavenly Man works out its purpose continuously through its manifestation the Lords of the Rays work in cycles. For instance, “they cause the fading out or the dying of form aspects, of institutions, and the ‘organising organisms’ (to use a peculiar phrase); they therefore produce cycles of destruction and of cessation and thus make room for those new forms and life expressions which an incoming ray will produce.” Rays and Initiations, Pages 568-569

Concerning cycles, he then points out that here on earth Ray Six is going out of manifestation whereas Ray Seven is coming in.

Now the planets on Ray Six are Mars and Neptune and Uranus is on Ray Seven.  The Heavenly men there still fully function fully as planetary Logoi there no matter what cycle their prominent ray is functioning. However, by working with the energy of the seven rays the Heavenly Men are able to extend their influence to other planetary lives in the solar system as well as receive from outside the system:

“The sun ‘Sirius’ is the source of logoic manas in the same sense as the Pleiades are connected with the evolution of manas in the seven Heavenly Men, and Venus was responsible for the coming in of mind in the Earth chain.” TCF, Page 347

Concerning their work with humanity DK says the Ray Lords, “produce in the human kingdom a self-conscious awareness, and in the superhuman world a synthetic inclusiveness. All human monads, carried into manifestation by the will and desire of some ray Lord, are part of His body of manifestation.” Esoteric Psychology, Vol 1, Page 27

All the Lords of the Seven Rays work to stimulate the evolution of humanity but they work in vastly different ways – so different that those under one ray may see those under another ray as the enemy. For instance, those under Rays 1, 3 & 5 are often at odds with 2, 4 and 6. Seven is a synthesizing ray and can be seen as being on either side.

Concerning the different approaches of the Lords he says “that this urge to salvage and to sacrifice in order to redeem works out in different ways in the different planetary schemes. Each Ray Lord of a scheme, manifesting through a planet, expresses this urge in varying ways, and each expression is so different from the others that it is hard for a human being to do more than sense that method which exists on our own particular planet.” Esoteric Psychology, Vol 2, Page 97

He tells us that not much has been previously given out on these Lords: “Information anent the seven Spirits before the Throne of the Trinity has not been so usual and only a few writers, ancient or modern, have touched upon the nature of these Beings.  Now, with all that I have given you concerning the seven rays and the seven Ray Lords, much more can be discovered; these seven great Lives can be seen and known as the informing essences and the active energies in all that is manifested and tangible upon the physical plane as well as on all the planes of divine expression.” Esoteric Healing, Page 583

These Lords have many workers representing them: “The Ray Lords are embodied livingness qualified by the seven aspects of Love, but Who are Themselves of so high an order that They cannot function as directing creative Agents but work through Their trained and developed Representatives.” Rays and Initiations, Page 733

To understand more fully the work of the Lords of the Rays it is advisable that the student study the different types of influence manifested by the seven rays.

I’ll be providing helpful links in the glossary.

The Heavenly Men

When DK speaks of the Heavenly Men, he usually seems to be referring to seven planetary logoi dwelling in the seven sacred planets with each one representing one of the seven rays. But the first thing to realize is that the entities involved are not limited to seven. Indeed, there will be an entity presiding over each ray and planet, but under such will be a vast army of helpers as indicated in these quotes:

“The seven Heavenly Men, for instance, are a few out of the great band of associated Lives who have chosen to come into incarnation in this kalpa for purposes of mutual help and mutual correction.  They are really destined to work together, but nevertheless on other cosmic planes have points of contact unknown to us.” TCF, Page 1185

“The seven Heavenly Men are there to be found, each of Whom is composed (from the standpoint of form) of group souls,—those group souls being made up of the individual human and angel units of consciousness.” Letters On Occult Meditation, Page 266

In addition, these “seven Heavenly Men manifest through forty-nine lesser Rays.” TCF, Page 631 Through these 49 then there would be many assistants helping with the work.

Some of those assisting are the Spiritual Hierarchy of the various systems including earth:

“A Master of the Wisdom is He Who can consciously function as part of the Heavenly Man to Whose Body He may belong. He understands the laws governing groups and group souls.” Letters on Occult Meditation, Page 263

And even before he becomes a master the disciple “learns that he, the human atom is a part of a group or centre in the body of a heavenly Man, a planetary Logos.” Light of the Soul, Page 130 “When man has attained the consciousness of the buddhic plane, he has raised his consciousness to that of the Heavenly Man in whose body he is a cell.” TCF, Page 121

All lives on earth are a part of a Heavenly Man whether it be a conscious or unconscious participation, but “A Master of the Wisdom is He Who can consciously function as part of the Heavenly Man to Whose Body He may belong… He realises the centre in the Body of the Heavenly Man by means of which He and His group are kept in sympathetic vibration.” Letters On Occult Meditation, Page 263

The heavenly men have a multi layered existence on three basic levels or planes:

“[a] On the monadic plane, the plane of the seven Rays.

[b] On the buddhic plane, where the Masters and their disciples form the forty-nine centres in the bodies of the seven Heavenly Men.

[c] On the fourth etheric physical plane, where the sacred planets, the dense bodies in etheric matter of the Heavenly Men, are to be found.” TCF, Page 166

Concerning the latter DK says that a heavenly Man “wears the planetary body as man wears the robe of the physical body, and by means of this objective form He works His purposes out on the physical plane, through the factor of mind achieving certain goals.” TCF, Page 356

Even so, these Heavenly Men are not limited to just one planet but “They have freedom of movement outside the bounds of the planetary web within the circumference of the solar ring-pass-not.” TCF, Page 105

DK tells us that these Heavenly men are ancient souls indeed: “A Heavenly Man has His source outside the solar systemHe developed consciousness on the three lower planes of the three worlds during the first solar system.” TCF, Pages 271-272

Some may be surprised to learn that heavenly men are married as indicated here:

“Each Heavenly Man is linked with one of His Brothers under the Law of Mutual Attraction, which manifests so degradingly as yet upon the physical plane, through the life of the human unit, imprisoned in physical form.  Psychically the link is of a different nature, and such a link is found between the planetary Logos of the scheme we call Venus, and the Logos of our scheme. TCF Page 367

Even though these great entities are called “Men” they incarnate as both male and female in polarization: “there are masculine and feminine incarnations undergone by Heavenly Men as by men, considering the entire subject from the angle of electrical polarity.” TCF, Page 323

Even though they have a marriage of sorts and are in physical form, male and female energies are always involved, so it may seem strange that the Heavenly Men are also called Hermaphrodites:

“All forms are dual, both in evolution and in essential nature.  They are the product of the work of the Builders (deva forces) and of active intelligence (the human units) and the two are indivisible in the Divine Hermaphrodite, or Heavenly Man.” TCF, Page 438

Since the devas are said to be polarized as female and humanity as male this is a way of saying that the Heavenly Men have balanced the male and female energies in them so they are “indivisible.” Even so, they still seek a marriage relationship with another planetary logos.  He tells us that Earth is paired up with Venus, but that is the only such link given that I recall.

This marriage relationship goes beyond planets to entire solar systems for “Our solar system is negatively polarised as regards the sun Sirius, which influences our entire system psychically via the three synthesising schemes.” TCF, Page 378

In this case our solar system would be the female and Sirius the male.

This merging or marriage within the solar system goes beyond any two planets for “Their aim is to achieve uniformity of contact with each other, and to merge eventually Their separated identities in the One Identity, retaining simultaneously full self-consciousness or individualised self-apprehension.” TCF, Page 252

Their ultimate goal is “To attain to the consciousness of the solar Logos, within Whose body They form the centres.  It entails the attainment by a Heavenly Man of a group consciousness of a sevenfold nature, or the achievement of accurate vibratory relationship with the other Heavenly Men Who form the other centres.” TCF, Page 290

The progress of humans and the Heavenly Men are interdependent:

When man achieves, then the Heavenly Men likewise achieve; when They reach Their full growth and knowledge, and are self-conscious on all planes, then the Son achieves, and the solar system (His body of manifestation and experience) has served its purpose.  The Son is liberated….and in the course of the mahamanvantara the imperfect Gods become perfect.” TCF, Pages 244-245 & 667

The Lords of Karma

The Lords of Karma

Some of the most advanced beings in our solar system are called the Lords of Karma. They are generally presented as four in number, “but the whole system works through graded representatives.” TCF, Page 468

There are thus many entities who assist in carrying out the great work, but there are four who oversee the whole of the karmic plan that deals with the past in our solar system. Then there are others who deal with future and racial karma.

Some may question as to why agents for karma are necessary, as some think that it works itself out by a natural cause and effect. After all, if you murder someone don’t you just come back and become a victim yourself?

It is true that cause and effect is behind all things, but this law created these agents of karma to ensure that karma works out fairly, for without the application of quality discerning judgment the law of karma just would not work.

The main reason agents of karma are needed to create balance is because of the feeling nature that affects humanity so strongly, for DK tells us that “The life influence of the desire or astral body, the strongest karmic agency which has to be considered.” TCF, Page 799

Consider this: If you drop an apple it falls to the ground. That is simple cause and effect when only considering the event.

On the other hand, suppose that apple was taken from a starving child and you dropped it down a well while laughing at the kid’s misfortune. Because of feelings involved, the event becomes much more significant than that of gravity causing the apple to fall. The perpetrator obviously needs to learn a lesson and a situation needs to be set up so he will understand the error he committed.

Consider a situation strongly involving the feeling nature. A child writes her first poem and asks her father what he thinks. He says it sounds great for such a young person. But then in another family the guy says, “This is dumb. You’ll never be a poet.”

In both instances the dad gave an honest answer but the second did harm due to hurt feelings and diminished confidence of the child. The second created a negative karma that would take an intelligent judgment to balance the scales.

Humanity thus needs the Lords of Karma and their many helpers to balance the scales in such a way that each individual affected will eventually understand the fairness of the overall plan.

The presiding Lords of Karma who deal with humanity and their past karma are four in number and are sometimes called the Four Maharajahs. They are sometimes identified with the Lipika Lords. Some Theosophical writings make it sound like the Maharajahs and Lipikas are the same and others different so there is a division of opinion on the matter.

DK seems to have solved this mystery and speaks of “the Lipika Lords in Their three groups (the first group, the second, and the four Maharajahs, making the totality of the threefold karmic rulers who stand between the solar Logos and the seven planetary Logoi) … The four Maharajahs, the lesser Lipika Lords, who apply past karma and work it out in the present.” TCF, Pages 111-112

We thus see that all the Maharajahs are Lipikas, but not all Lipikas are Maharajahs. The Maharajahs are in the third Lipika group and are called “the lesser Lipika Lords.” The second group is “occupied in applying future karma, and wielding the future destiny of the races. The work of the first group of four cosmic Lipika Lords is occult and is only revealed somewhat at the fourth Initiation (and even then but slightly) so it will not be touched upon here.” TCF, Page 112

Lipika comes from “Lipi”, which means “writing”. These are said to be celestial recorders, who record every word and deed, said or done by humans while on this earth.

These “Lipika Lords of our system, the systemic Lords of Karma, are under the rule of a greater corresponding Lord on Sirius.” TCF, Page 570 We thus have our karma linked to an extra solar source.

Generally, when DK speaks of the “Lords of Karma” he is talking about the Four Maharajahs who deal with the working out of past karma, but when he is speaking about the working out of Future or racial karma he may speak of the Lipika Lords.

Often DK merely speaks of the Lords of Karma without indicating what category they are in. If he is talking about karma in general, he is usually referring to the Four Maharajahs along with their many assistants. Concerning them only one has been positively identified:

“Saturn is one of the most potent of the four Lords of Karma and forces man to face up to the past, and in the present to prepare for the future.” Esoteric Astrology, Page 164

“Saturn is the Lord of Karma, the imposer of retribution and the one who demands full payment of all debts and who therefore condemns us to the struggle for existence, both from the form side and from the soul side. Saturn, therefore, ‘fell’ when man fell into generation. He ‘followed the sons of men down into their low place.’ Esoteric Astrology, Page 105

Since he is speaking of past karma we know that he is speaking of Saturn as one of the Four Maharajahs.

DK teaches about planets forming the lower quaternary of the solar system whose synthesizing scheme is Saturn. He names three of them which would most likely be where we would find the four Lords of Karma, the Maharajas.

“1. The Earth – planetary vital body.
2. Venus – planetary astral vehicle, or Kama-manas.
3. Mercury – planetary mind.” Esoteric Astrology, Page 362

We are definitely told that Saturn is one of the Four Lords, and the other three appear to be from the Earth, Venus and Mercury.

We previously established that Sanat Kumara not only represents the Logos of earth but is “one of the Seven Spirits before the throne,” or one of the sacred planets and that planet is most likely Saturn. The above quote clinches it for is says the Saturn Lord “‘fell’ when man fell into generation. He ‘followed the sons of men down into their low place.’”

Just as he represents the logos of earth it appears that before he came here he represented the logos of Saturn.

This explains why the Lords of Karma have such a strong connection with Shamballa:

“There are four Lords of Karma associated with the Council Chamber at Shamballa. They represent—in Their totality—the three Rays of Aspect, and one of Them represents the four minor Rays of Attribute.” Rays and Initiations, Page 724

Thus, it would appear that Sana Kumara himself would be one of the Lords of Karma. Concerning the Three Buddhas of Activity – “On our planet, the Earth, They (three of the Lords of Karma) find Their points of contact through the three Buddhas of Activity,” TCF, Page 74

It indicates then that the three Buddhas are not Lords of Karma, but represent them.

Since Saturn is designated as one of the Lords, one would assume the other three Maharajahs would be planetary logoi also, but he is not clear on this and just identifies this one planet. Perhaps it is because Saturn has such a strong connection to this earth and that both are on the third Ray. Saturn also has a strong link with Jehovah of the Jews who strictly meted out karma to them.

It is said that the three heads of the Spiritual Hierarchy work closely with the Four Maharajas:

“This entire process is under the control of the Christ, assisted by the Manu and the Lord of Civilisation. These three Great Lords thus represent the three divine Aspects in the Hierarchy; They, with the four Lords of Karma, form the seven Who control the whole process of incarnation.” Rays and Initiations, Page 93

So, who are all the entities who work at carrying out karma in our system for we are told that “the whole system works through graded representatives.”

The Four Maharajas are just one division of the Lipika Lords. On the upper level there are “Three extra-systemic or cosmic Lords of Karma, Who work from a centre in Sirius through the medium of three representatives. These form a group around the solar Logos, and hold to Him a position analogous to the three Buddhas of Activity Who stand around Sanat Kumara.” TCF, Page 1142

Working with karma on this planet are three divisions of Lipika Lords of whom the Four Maharajas draw the most attention. One of these Lords oversees the building of human bodies and “Under Him are to be found certain karmic agents, who again are divided into the following groups:

  1. Three karmic agents responsible to the karmic Lords for the work on the three planes.
  2. Five karmic Lords who work in close connection with the Manus of the various races, and who are responsible for the correct building of the varying race types.
  3. Karmic agents responsible for the subrace types of the present time.
  4. Certain intermediary agents who represent (within these three groups) the seven Ray types.
  5. Those agents of the good Law who are connected specifically with the work of the etheric centres, and their response to the different planetary centres.
  6. The keepers of the records.” TCF, Pages 942-943

DK also speaks of “The great Lipika Lords with their vast bands of helpers are the most frequent users of the charts, and many of the discarnate egos awaiting incarnation or having just left the earth, sacrifice their time in devachan to assist in this work.” A learning Experience, Page 23

It seems that the Lords of Karma have many helpers including “discarnate egos awaiting incarnation.” Concerning them it is written: “the Ego (higher self) is aware of his karma, and of what must be done to promote growth during the coming incarnation. He works, therefore, in connection with these Lords,” TFC, Page 943

We thus have many entities who work with and assist the Lords of Karma. They range from high entities on Sirius, to the Solar Logos,  to residents of Shamballa, to the Spiritual Hierarchy, and  even to ourselves through our higher selves in the after death state.

It is therefore through “the knowledge of this law (of cycles) as it concerns rounds, races, subraces, groups (involutionary and evolutionary) and individuals (human and superhuman) which enables the Lords of Karma, and the Adepts of the good Law, to manipulate force or energy, and so carry all that is, on to its triumphant conclusion.” TCF, Page 1141

Men stumble over the truth from time to time, but most pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. – Winston Churchill

The Three Buddhas of Activity

The Three Buddhas of Activity

DK mentions the Three Buddhas of Activity quite a few times, but unless you have read over a dozen of the Bailey books you are likely to be in the dark about who they are and what they represent.

These the Buddhas are three Kumaras which are part of the seven great entities who form the inner circle at Shamballa. These have two divisions. The first are the “exoteric four” who are Sanat Kumara and the Three Buddhas of Activity. Blavatsky gives their names as Sananda, Sanaka, and Sanatana. These three, plus Sanat, are said to be in physical bodies, but not the dense physical as we understand it, but have bodies composed of the higher ethers of the physical plane.

The second group are called the “esoteric three.” These have bodies of a nonphysical substance and work with evolution from a higher level.

It is said that the exoteric four had to make a great sacrifice to descend to the dense physical plane to help us, for that is not their comfort zone.

The names of the esoteric three are: Sana, Kapila, and Sanat-sujata.

The Three Buddhas of Activity arrived on earth from Venus with Sanat Kumara over 18 million years ago. Altogether there were 105 Kumaras involved. Concerning the three DK says “There remain still with Him the three Buddhas of Activity.” The sacred number of 105 remains, but many of these Kumaras have been replaced by entitles who evolved from the human kingdom. Then he adds this: “I would call attention to the dual significance of that name, ‘Buddha of Activity,’ bearing out, as it does, the reality of the fact that Entities at Their stage of evolution are active love-wisdom and embody in Themselves the two aspects. The three Buddhas of activity have a correspondence to the three persons of the Trinity.” TCF Page 387

Each one of these Buddhas represents a group life of thirty-five:

“These Entities are divided into three groups of thirty-five each, and in Themselves embody the three major centres of the planetary Logos,” TCF, Page 387

Again three times 35 equals the sacred number of 105.

Even though they are presently active in the second ray of love-wisdom they carry with them a strong influence of the third ray from the previous solar system:

“Forget not that these three great Buddhas summarise in a peculiar sense the transmuted essence of the previous solar system in which intelligent activity was the goal. Today, that essence underlies all the activity of this solar system but is motivated by love, which was not the case in the earlier manifestation.” Rays and Initiations, Page 273

But then, “In relation to Shamballa… the three Buddhas of Activity… represent conscious intelligent life, conscious, intelligent and active wisdom, and conscious, intelligent and active creation.” Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, Page 185

We see then that they incorporate all three major rays of aspect in their work, but with emphasis on love-wisdom, the major ray of his solar system.

Students often figure Sanat Kumara, the Lord of the World, is the most evolved entity working with human evolution, so it may be surprising to learn that these three Buddhas, along with some others, are even more evolved than he.

Few of the great Lives Who form the inner group of the Council Chamber at Shamballa are now of greater advancement than he (Sanat); the ‘Supernal Three,’ the ‘Radiant Seven,’ the ‘Lives embodying the forty-nine Fires,’ the ‘Buddhas of Activity,’ and certain ‘Eternal Spirits’ from such centres of dynamic spiritual life as Sirius, or from the constellation which at any one time forms a triangle with our Sun and Sirius and a Representative from Venus are of greater—far greater—advancement.” Rays and Initiations, Pages 141-142

It is interesting that even though they are more evolved “They are three aspects of the one aspect, and the pupils of Sanat Kumara.” Initiation Human and Solar, Page 107

The question arises as to why they would be in a student relationship with Sanat if they are the more evolved?

The answer is quite obvious which is this. As we evolve certain aspects of ourselves may reach a much higher state than others. Obviously, Sanat Kumara and this planetary situation offers a unique opportunity to achieve a more balanced state in their development.

For instance, Nikola Tesla was a scientific genius, but lacked ability in business skills. He may come back some day and learn them from one lesser evolved than himself.

So, just how advanced are these three Buddhas? We are told this:

They do not belong to this solar system at all; They have passed through the human stage in such far distant and remote world cycles that the experience is no longer a part of Their consciousness… In the last solar system They were the planetary Logoi of three planets in which the mind principle reached its highest stage of development; Rays and Initiations, Pages 267-268

It appears that they are a solar system ahead of Sanat Kumara, for in the last solar system they were “planetary Logoi” which is the position occupied by Sanat Kumara in this one.

They are not only “pupils” here to smooth off a few rough edges, but “They act as advisors to Sanat Kumara where His initial purpose is concerned.” Rays and Initiations, Page 267 Thus as pupils they receive and as advisors they send.

DK tells us of a number of things these three Buddhas do. One assisted Sanat Kumara in stimulating the individualization of humans in our distant past. Another focuses on stimulating disciples toward higher initiation and a third works with bringing disciples in on the plan through a principle called “identification. (See Rays and Initiations, Pages 268-269)

Impressing the plan on the Hierarchy and humanity is an important part of their work:

“It might be said here that the three Buddhas of Activity are the prime impressing Agents and that the three Great Lords are the “impressed Recipients” at an exceedingly high level.” Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, Pages 119-120

“They are Embodiments of the intuition, and control the inflow of intuitional energy into the minds of men.” Discipleship in the New Age, Vol 2, Page 200

Whereas the main focus of Sanat Kumara is the human kingdom the Three Buddhas work with the lower three:

“The three Buddhas of Activity, act as similar focal points for the energy which animates the three lower kingdoms, and which produces their differing grades of consciousness.” TCF, Page 728

This quote pretty much sums up their work with life on earth:

“These three Buddhas are the creative Agents of the planetary Logos and are Wielders of the Law of Evolution.” Rays and Initiations, Page 587

They also act as a higher correspondence to the Sixth Kingdom and the ajna chakra:

“The Buddhas of Activity Who are to Shamballa what the Nirmanakayas are to the Hierarchy…” Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, Page 45

“They are essentially the “eye within the Triangle”—a most familiar symbol to many today. They are the expression, in activity, of the “All-Seeing Eye”; through their agency God sees, and through them and the energy directed through them, He directs the creative process.” Rays and Initiations, Page 180

As such they transmit intelligence from sources outside this solar system to Shamballa:

“They function, in a peculiar sense, as linking intermediaries between the Logos of our solar system and the informing Life of the constellation Libra; They relate these two great centres of energy to our planetary Logos.” Rays and Initiations, Page 267

We thus see that three the super advanced beings called the Three Buddhas of Activity are very active in the evolutionary process in our solar system.

You can’t help someone uphill without getting closer to the top yourself. – Chinese Proverb

Shamballa

Shamballa, Part 1
Where is Shamballa?

Esoteric students often associate Shamballa with the name of the seventh kingdom on the earth, but that is not technically correct. Instead, DK says this about the sixth and seventh kingdoms:

“To these kingdoms no names have as yet been given, because the possibility of their existence is only now just beginning faintly to penetrate into the consciousness of the disciple and the initiate.” Rays and Initiations, Page 129

Even though the seventh kingdom has no name, in the next paragraph he does associate it with Shamballa:

“The seventh kingdom in nature is that of the Lives Who participate in full capacity of understanding with the group of Beings Who are the nucleus of the Council at Shamballa. Around the Lord of the World this group pivots;” Page 130

So technically, the seventh kingdom has no given name but consists “of the Lives Who participate in full capacity of understanding” with the great Council Chamber.

Why then has this great center been given no official name as far as humanity is concerned?

Apparently, it is thought that something does not warrant a name until it begins “to penetrate into the consciousness” of advanced humanity. A name is a special word that gives meaning, but if a thing is beyond the consciousness of a person or group then a name is meaningless. Only when humanity begins to have some conscious recognition and understanding of the seventh kingdom can a name be given by them.

You cannot name something if you do not know it exists and the name which the sixth and seventh kingdoms will eventually bear will be names given by humanity when humanity consciously has some understanding of them. Until then students will use the name Shamballa as given by the Hierarchy.

We have some understanding of the mineral, plant, animal and human kingdoms and have named them. Because of great lives like Jesus, the Buddha and others most of humanity understands there is at least one kingdom beyond human. Esoteric students have named this fifth kingdom, “The Spiritual Hierarchy;” whereas general humanity calls it “The Kingdom of Heaven,” or “Kingdom of God.”

General humanity sees the master teachers and the kingdom of heaven as taught by them as the ultimate and do not register the sixth and seventh kingdoms beyond them, so as yet there is no name for what which is not yet perceived. The name Shamballa merely causes us to stretch our minds to consider kingdoms above that which humanity can presently understand.

A seeker may consider this question: “Is Shamballa a place, and, if so, where is it?”

The answer seems to be yes and no.

On the yes side we find this:

“The central home of this Hierarchy (the seventh Kingdom) is at Shamballa, a centre in the Gobi desert, called in the ancient books the “White Island.” It exists in etheric matter, and when the race of men on earth have developed etheric vision its location will be recognised and its reality admitted. The development of this vision is rapidly coming to pass, as may be seen from the newspapers and the current literature of the day, but the location of Shamballa will be one of the latest etheric sacred spots to be revealed as it exists in the matter of the second ether. Initiation Human and Solar, Page 33

“Shamballa. The City of the Gods…It is the home of mysticism and the Secret Doctrine.” Initiation Human and Solar, Page 225

“Shamballa—The Sacred Island in the Gobi desert. The centre in central Asia where the Lord of the World, the Ancient of Days, has His Headquarters.” TCF Footnote [xci] 89

So, you read along and see these quotes and you’re convinced Shamballa is a place and then you read this:

“This Council Chamber (at Shamballa) is not a location or a place, but a state of consciousness within the all-enveloping Life.” Rays and Initiations, Page 256

So which is it. Is Shamballa a place or a state of consciousness? I find that the answer to such conundrums in the Bailey writings is to carefully examine the wording. In this case note that DK refers to consciousness “within the all-enveloping Life.”

The etheric form existence of Shamballa does have a location and place, but the members are not restricted to that location. A member of the Council Chamber or one tuning into its consciousness could be anywhere on the planet.

It is roughly comparable to saying that Washington DC is a place and headquarters in the United States, but there are many citizens not physically present in the nation’s capital.

Similarly, Shamballa has a central headquarters, but members with the consciousness of the seventh kingdom are citizens no matter where they are.

Presently Shamballa resides in the second ether, invisible to human eyes, but this will not always be the case:

“When these two centres (Humanity and the Spiritual Hierarchy) can work in full cooperation, then Shamballa will take form and will no longer be found existing only in cosmic etheric substance, as is now the case.” Rays and Initiations, Page 382

It is interesting that DK equates Sanat Kumara with the Ancient of Days from the Bible (Destiny of the Nations, Page 95) and the Book of Daniel speaks of a future time when he will manifest to the planet. Daniel speaks of the current age where the forces of evil make war with the saints (the enlightened) “and prevailed against them; Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.” Daniel 7:21-22

It also says this: “I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.” Daniel 7:13-14

Thus, DK tells us of a day that Shamballa will materialize in the physical and the Bible says that Sanat Kumara will as well.

That will be an interesting time.

Shamballa, Part 2
Shamballa and the Rays

We’ve established that Shamballa is a foreshadowing of the seventh kingdom which will manifest on this planet. Since it represents such high consciousness to which we may attain it would seem advisable to see what the Bailey writings tell us about it.

First let us look at the rays that govern Shamballa. Most students are aware that the first ray of will-power-purpose dominates there as noted here:

“The Centre which is created by the Ray of Will or Power is called Shamballa and its major activity is bequeathing, distributing and circulating the basic principle of life itself to every form which is held within the planetary ring-pass-not of the planetary Life or Logos… This dynamic energy focuses itself through the Lives or Beings Who control and dominate Shamballa.” Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, Page 183 & 129

Even though the first ray is very powerful there, the overall controlling energy is the second ray of love-wisdom:

“It is, however, equally true that Shamballa is primarily second ray as it is expressed, because that is the ray of the present solar system of which Shamballa is a part; and that the first ray, or its dynamic life aspect, is focused in the heart, for the heart is the centre of life.” Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, Page 135

Then too the seventh ray plays a part for the “energy from Shamballa (embodying the will-to-good) is fused and blended with the organising energy of the seventh ray and then carried to humanity along the stream of love which emanates from the Hierarchy itself.”      Esoteric Astrology, Page 445

In addition, all the three major rays (1, 2 & 3) are represented by the triad of the three Buddhas of Activity: “In relation to Shamballa, this Triangle is composed of the three Buddhas of Activity Who represent conscious intelligent life, conscious, intelligent and active wisdom, and conscious, intelligent and active creation.” Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, Page 185

The other four rays, 4, 5, 6 & 7 are not left out for one of the Lords of Karma “represents the four minor Rays of Attribute. It is the Lord of Karma Who implements the destinies of Those Who are conditioned by the third Ray of Active Intelligence.” Rays and Initiations, Page 724

In addition, DK through numerology reduced Shamballa to numbers: “To this centre we give the name Shamballa, the component letters of which are numerically: S.H.A.M.B.A.L.L.A. or 1.8.1.4.2.1.3.3.1. This word equals the number 24 which in its turn equals 6… The number 6 is the number of form or of manifestation.” Rays and Initiations, Page 79

Notice that there are four ones in the name indicate the emphasis on the first ray of power.

If a resident of Shamballa were to describe it to the average seeker, how would he go about it? We are told that it would be difficult, for much of what it is, is beyond that which is conceived by general humanity. For instance, he says this:

“There is naught in the world of Shamballa which is of the same nature as the phenomenal world of man in the three worlds, or even of the soul world. It is a world of pure energy, of light and of directed force; it can be seen as streams and centres of force, all forming a pattern of consummate beauty, all potently invocative of the world of the soul and of the world of phenomena; it therefore constitutes in a very real sense the world of causes and of initiation.” Discipleship in the New Age, Vol 2, Pages 292-293

This tells us that even though Shamballa has a physical extension composed of the second physical ether in the Gobi Desert that its pure nature is a consciousness beyond time and space. We are even told that it is beyond “the soul world.”

That would be where our Higher Self and the Solar Angel resides. From our point of view the soul world would seem like an ultimate destination, but even an advanced disciple has difficulty wrapping his mind around all Shamballa represents.

For the disciple to get a sense of Shamballa in his consciousness he must pick up the aspect of purpose and follow it:

“Shamballa is the place of purpose. It is a purpose which cannot be understood until the Plan is followed. Herein lies a clue.) Discipleship in the New Age, Vol 2, Page 519

DK does give us some hints as to what the focus is of the great lives in Shamballa. They “move entirely free from glamour; Their vision is one of extreme simplicity; They are concerned only with the great and simple duality of spirit and matter, and not with the many forms which the fusion of these two brings into being.” Rays and Initiations, Page 144

Then he tells us that “Shamballa which is essentially the energy of life itself, implemented by the will.” Rays and Initiations, Page 230 He equates this with the “divine potency, of embodied Purpose, expressing through evolutionary manifestation the divine Will.” Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, Page 129

We conclude the essence of Shamballa is life itself animated by the first ray of Will, Power and Purpose, which is under the aspect of Love Wisdom of the Solar Logos.

We thus see that Shamballa exists in a very high state of consciousness relative to the human

kingdom. Those who think they have had the ultimate contact need to think again.

Shamballa, Part 3
Who Resides in Shamballa?

The question then arises as to who dwells in Shamballa.

Most students are aware that Sanat Kumara along with six other Kumaras dwell there, but are a little fuzzy who else may be there. Concerning these seven it is written:

“There are seven Kumaras connected with our planetary evolution, of Whom four are exoteric; the four exoteric have vehicles in etheric matter; three Kumaras are esoteric and have their vehicles in subtler matters still.” TCF, Page 181, Footnote

Only four of them inhabit the etheric-physical Shamballa but they all dwell in the Shamballa consciousness.

These seven Kumaras are mentioned several times in the Bailey writings giving some the impression that is all there is for now, but in the beginning “one hundred and four Kumaras came from Venus to the Earth; literally the figure is one hundred and five, when the synthesising Unit, the Lord of the World Himself, is counted as one”. TCF, Page 387

This event happened eighteen and a half million years ago when the foundations of Shamballa on Earth were laid:

“It was decided about seventeen million years ago (the coming of the Hierarchy and the founding of Shamballa being about eighteen and a half million years ago) to have on the dense physical plane an organization and a headquarters for the mysteries, and to have a band of Adepts, and Chohans who would function in dense physical bodies and thus meet the need of the rapidly awakening humanity.” A Treatise on White Magic, Page 378

Shamballa then started out with 105 Kumaras. Has the number then been reduced to seven?

It appears the number may still be 105 for the text says this:

“These Kumaras [the 105] (or Their present substitutes) can also be divided into the seven groups which correspond to the seven Rays, and are in Themselves the life of the centre for which They stand. Fifteen, therefore, of these Entities (again the ten and the five) form a centre in the body of the planetary Logos, and the three Kumaras about Whom we are told (Who in Themselves are fivefold, making the fifteen) are the entifying Lives of the particular centre which is involved in the coming Initiation of the Heavenly Man, and to which the human units at this time, and during this greater cycle, belong.” TCF, Page 388

Notice that in speaking of the 105 Kumaras in the present time that he speaks of “their present substitutes.” And he speaks of the seven Kumaras as “seven groups” totaling 105.

Apparently the 105 (7×15) is an important number to maintain for when the original Kumaras departed, human initiates took their place.

“Many posts held hitherto by Venusian Entities were vacated in order that our humanity might occupy them, and a vast interchain radiation went on as many of the Kumaras and certain lesser existences quitted our earth chain, and entered upon subtler, and more advanced work.” TCF, Pages 1078-1079

Here he speaks of “certain lesser existences” indicating others who are not of the rank of a Kumara who inhabit Shamballa. It is most probable that all of these have not been identified in available writings.

We do know that those who have passed the sixth initiation who remain on the Earth as Nirmanakayas have access to Shamballa. We are told that “that Gautama Buddha, with several of his Arhats” (TCF, Page 1193) are examples of these. It is quite possible that these entities have taken the place of some of the 105 original Kumaras.

Theses Nirmanakayas are one of two groups who have attained Shamballa:

“The Members of the Council at Shamballa… divide Themselves into two groups which are called in the ancient parlance, Registrants of the Purpose and Custodians of the Will. Will is active. Purpose is passive, waiting for the results of the activity of the will. These two groups are reflected in hierarchical circles by the Nirmanakayas or the Planetary Contemplatives, and the Custodians of the Plan. The function of the Registrants of the Purpose is to keep the channel open between our Earth, the planet Venus and the Central Spiritual Sun. The function of the Custodians of the Will is to relate the Council, the Hierarchy and Humanity, thus creating a basic triangle of force between the three major centres of the planetary Life.” Rays and Initiations, Page 69

Here DK talks about and “inner group” of very advanced beings in Shamballa, and some of them are more advanced than Sanat Kumara:

Few of the great Lives Who form the inner group of the Council Chamber at Shamballa are now of greater advancement than he (Sanat); the “Supernal Three,” the “Radiant Seven,” the “Lives embodying the forty-nine Fires,” the “Buddhas of Activity,” and certain “Eternal Spirits” from such centres of dynamic spiritual life as Sirius, or from the constellation which at any one time forms a triangle with our Sun and Sirius” and a Representative from Venus are of greater—far greater—advancement.” Rays and Initiations, Pages 141-142

If there is an inner group there would also be an outer, which most likely would be the Nirmanakayas.

So this inner group consists of some of the most evolved entities within or solar system plus great beings external to it such as the Avatar of Synthesis:

“Shamballa—the planetary head centre—invokes energies outside the planetary life… The Avatar of Synthesis will draw very close to humanity and He will inaugurate the ‘reign of Avatars’ Who will be embodied Purpose and spiritual Will.” Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, Page 134

We are told that the Lords of the Rays are “more advanced in the spiritual scale than are those great Lives who form the Council of the Lord of the World in Shamballa,” but they have representatives who “constitute a body of directing Forces in collaboration with the Lord of the World at Shamballa.” Esoteric Healing, Page 298 & Destiny of the Nations, Page 144

In addition, we are told that members of the Council Chamber at Shamballa “work in full unanimity with the Lords of Karma.” Rays and Initiations, Page 118 This indicates that these great Lords have a presence there.

We see from the writings that there is quite a wide selection of great entities who work in Shamballa.

The greatest of all in our solar system is the Solar Logos who dwells on its own plane but has strong influence in Shamballa:

“Shamballa, as it constitutes the synthesis of understanding where our Earth is concerned, is also the centre where the highest Will of the Solar Logos is imposed upon the Will of our planetary Logos.” Externalization of the Hierarchy, Page 534

Finally, we see that all of us dwell in Shamballa in a round-about way. The highest part of ourselves, our monads, have never left the highest spiritual realm and the human initiate will eventually “evoke response from the Spiritual Triad and thus reach the Monad in its high place of waiting in Shamballa.” Rays and Initiations, Page 61

And what is the highest part of ourselves, the monad, waiting for? It is waiting for the Prodigal Son to return home to share the high consciousness in Shamballa. After the long wait is finished, we are told that: “Life is now liberated, owning the quality of conscious knowledge and the fruit of all experience. These are the gifts of soul and form combined.” Esoteric Healing, Page 502

Shamballa, Part 4
The Shamballa Energy

We have already mentioned that Shamballa strongly represents the energy of the First Ray, but what does this mean as far as its influence goes on the lower kingdoms?

The first ray is commonly called the ray of power, but has three main aspects which are Will, Power and Purpose. All three of these are powerful agents projected to the Spiritual Hierarchy and humanity to further evolution upon the earth.

When we speak of Purpose in connection with Shamballa, we are not speaking of it as commonly understood, but it represents an alignment of the higher mind with definite plans from the Lord of the World as well as the Solar Logos.

Then we have the will aspect that goes far beyond what we see as human determination but is carried out when the higher mind aligns with higher lives and makes definite decisions to select and direct energies to further the Plan and the Purpose of the Plan.

Finally, we have the Power aspect which is the easiest for seekers to understand for power exercised on any level is pretty much recognized or what it is. Raw power is neither good or evil, but its results depend on the intelligence that receive it and put it to use.

These three aspects affect humanity through “three great energies… focused in Shamballa, the seat of fire:”

The first is the Energy of Purification. DK says that “It involves the elimination of all that hinders the nature of divinity from full expressionThis necessitates the leaving behind, stage after stage, cycle after cycle, life after life, and plane after plane, of every tendency in the form nature which veils or hides the glory of God. It is essentially the energy which substitutes good for evil.

The second is “The Energy of Destruction: This is a destruction which removes the forms which are imprisoning the inner spiritual life, and hiding the inner soul light.”

The third is “The Energy of Organisation.”

This is basically that energy that creates and organizes in the worlds of time and space so material manifestation is brought in alignment with Spirit. Among humanity it inspires us to create better forms after old forms and impediments have been removed. (See Rays and Initiations, Pages 84-86)

We thus have this sequence. First purification removes that which hinders the release of divine power. Second this power is released that destroys forms that are hindering divine expression. Finally, the energy of purposeful organization and creation takes place that creates a new cycle of useful forms more in harmony with Divine Will.

This third aspect finally reveals the love divine which is behind all that God has made, but it often seems that there is not much love behind the first two aspects when they are released

The forces from Shamballa are extremely powerful, from a human point of view, and can overwhelm and even frighten a disciple when they are picked up. For this reason, “The individual must be protected by the group from the terrific potencies which emanate from Shamballa. These must be stepped down for him by the process of distribution, so that their impact is not focussed in any one or all of his centres but is shared by all the group members. Here is the clue to the significance of group work.” Rays and Initiations, Page 68

This energy is different from the second ray of Love-Wisdom radiated from the Hierarchy, but nevertheless, when perceived the disciple does not question its divine source.

Because of its immense power “Most of the response to the Shamballa activity is characterised by fear and terror, by sensitivity and distressingly developed reactions to the forces of hate and separation. Only a few, here and there, really grasp the vision of the future and realise what is going on, seeing truly the beauty of the emerging plan.” Destiny of the Nations, Page 20

Indeed, the power released from Shamballa is great and has even destroyed an entire civilization in the past for “The last major intervention in Atlantean days came via Shamballa and resulted in the partial destruction of entire continents and lands.” Esoteric Astrology , Page 441

This caused a great disruption, but it had to be done to prevent the imprisoning of the human soul by dark powers:

“In Atlantean days when the power of the Black Lodge was so great that defeat faced the Hierarchy and the destruction of the human soul. Shamballa then interfered, and the world of that time was destroyed. This period is recognised in modern history as the time of the Great Flood.” Externalization of the Hierarchy, Pages 438-439

Because the powers of Shamballa have been used mostly to destroy old forms interfering with Spirit this creates a great disturbance to those who are attached to those forms which no longer serve humanity.

The plan is always to release the third aspect of power to build the new, the good, the beautiful and the true, but because of human imperfection and focus on the forces of materialism we haven’t seen many examples of this aspect of divine creation, though there have been a few. But it is hoped that this creative aspect that reveals the love of God behind what appears to be unsettling times will finally manifest for all to see in the Aquarian Age.

Since the fall of Atlantis, the release of the Shamballa energy has mainly been channeled through the Hierarchy and then safely directed toward the human kingdom. They have been hesitant to release it directly to humanity for “the oft misunderstood fact that the same energy or identical force will produce results within the consciousness of a Christ or within the consciousness of anti-Christ.” Rays and Initiations, Page 232

Yet a direct release to humanity has more potential power for good so around 1745 the Kumaras in Shamballa noted that humanity had advanced enough that it was worth the risk to release this energy directly to us. It would create great disturbance but it was believed the end would be good.

After that time, “The will aspect of divinity made its first definite and direct contact with the human mind. The impact was direct and not deflected-as had hitherto been the case-to the Hierarchy and from thence to humanity. According to the type of man or group who responded or reacted to this contact, so were the results; they were very good or exceedingly bad. Great and good men appeared and enunciated the truths needed for the New Age, and of these Lincoln, Roosevelt, Browning, Briand and a host of lesser men could be cited. Evil and pernicious men also emerged, such as Hitler and the group he gathered around him, bringing much evil upon the Earth.

“At the same time, the will-to-good from Shamballa evoked the latent goodwill in man, so that today and increasingly over the past one hundred years, goodness of heart, kindness in action, consideration for others and mass action to promote human welfare have spread over the Earth.” Externalisation of the Hierarchy, Page 667

He says this release created all kinds of ideologies thought to be good at the time such as, “Fascism, Democracy (the U.S . Constitution) and Communism as well as that peculiarly distorted blend of Fascism and Communism which goes by the name of Hitlerism or Nazism.” Externalization of the Hierarchy, Pages 126-127

Numerous powerful men came forward of a very disturbing nature who destroyed the old forms: “The men who inspired the initiating French revolution; the great conqueror, Napoleon; Bismarck, the creator of a nation; Mussolini, the regenerator of his people; Hitler who lifted a distressed people upon his shoulders; Lenin, the idealist, Stalin and Franco are all expressions of the Shamballa force and of certain little understood energies.” Externalization of the Hierarchy, Page 133

A powerful and direct release of the Shamballa energy occurred in the 1930’s, but instead of being picked up by disciples it was picked up by the adepts of the Black Lodge. “These evil beings have responded to the will energy of Shamballa and to the life-giving vitality, but have used it in keeping with their own evil intentions and with the power conferred by their standing upon the cosmic ladder of evil. Hence the war.” (Word War II) Rays and Initiations, Page 232

Hitler’s Germany used this energy destructively, but fortunately was defeated by the Allied nations. Even though great destruction occurred humanity made a lot of progress because of the war. Many old forms were destroyed and replaced by newer and better ones.

The Shamballa energy continues to be released periodically but “the risks will then not be so great as in the first impact, owing to the spiritual growth of mankind. Each time this energy strikes into the human consciousness some fuller aspect of the divine plan appears.” Rays and Initiations, Page 716

Since World War II tremendous changes have occurred and many of them are due to advanced individuals picking up the will-to-good and creative aspects of the Shamballa force. Let us hope that humanity has matured enough to use this energy in a constructive mode.

To make this happen disciples cannot just sit back and let others use this energy, but DK encourages disciples to invoke it to draw down inspiration about the plan so they can assist in manifesting it.

He says that “the concentrated clear and dynamic invocation of the spiritual Beings Who have created—or more accurately—have formed Shamballa, is the highest form of meditation possible upon our planet.” Discipleship in the New Age, Vol 2, Page 197

Let the disciples who wish to be a part of the plan invoke this energy so light and love and power will restore the Plan on earth.

All I have seen teaches me to trust the creator for all I have not seen. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Mysterious Sixth Kingdom

The Mysterious Sixth Kingdom

The sixth and seventh kingdoms are the most mysterious of all. The seventh is identified with the residents of Shamballa while the fifth is the Spiritual Hierarchy, but to the sixth no name is given and very little is written about it.

DK tells us that it hasn’t even been given a name “because the possibility of their existence is only now just beginning faintly to penetrate into the consciousness of the disciple and the initiate. The sixth kingdom is that of the “overshadowing Triads”—that aggregation of liberated Lives of which the higher initiates in the Hierarchy are a part.” Rays and Initiations, Page 129

This kingdom corresponds to the color indigo in the spectrum, the most difficult color to identify, for it is often difficult to tell where the blue ends and the violet begins.

We are told that members of his sixth kingdom “are the directing Agents and are a correspondence to the ajna centre of mankind, only here it is the ajna centre of the planetary Logos, in the same sense as Shamballa is His head centre, the Hierarchy His heart centre and Humanity His creative throat centre.” Rays and Initiations, Page 733

Whereas the sixth kingdom has not been given a name DK has given us a name or title of those who compose it. They are called Nirmanakayas. These are a “great group of divine Contemplatives who are trained to act as an intermediate receptive group between Shamballa and the Hierarchy. They receive impression from Shamballa and transmit it to the Hierarchy, thus enabling the Members of the Hierarchy to receive it as ‘a sharpened impression’ and to register it accurately because the emanating impression has passed through an area within the divine Mind where it is enhanced by the trained perception and the determined receptivity of this group. They are called, in the East, the divine Nirmanakayas.” Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, Page 44

These great beings have taken the sixth initiation or higher and have had opportunity to go to higher states beyond the concerns of earth evolution, such as the Sambhogakaya and the Dharmakaya who dwell in formlessness with the Source.

The Nirmanakayas sacrifice the higher way and keep their “ethereal form which one would assume when leaving his physical he would appear in his astral body—having in addition all the knowledge of an Adept.” TCF, Page 1193

Sanat Kumara descended from his high plane and took an etheric body so he could stimulate the evolution of the earth.

The Nirmanakayas made a similar sacrifice, but in an opposite direction. They had an opportunity to go higher, but refused and stayed here in bodily form in etheric matter.

We are told “that Gautama Buddha, with several of his Arhats” have become Nirmanakayas through such a sacrifice. TCF, Page 1193

Whereas agents in Shamballa focus on the work of the seventh kingdom, and the Hierarchy the fifth, this sixth kingdom of Nirmanakayas function as messengers who move between the kingdoms sometimes even descending to humanity. It is interesting that the Biblical Greek word for angel is ANGELOS which means messengers. It is quite possible that those having visions and sightings of angels have witnessed a contact with Nirmanakayas. Indeed, these Nirmanakayas are messengers transmitting intelligence from higher to lower kingdoms.

In addition, DK says this: “They are the creative agents of life itself and the knowers and the custodians of the will of the planetary Logos, as it works itself out in manifestation. They are the source in reality of planetary invocation and evocation.” Discipleship in the New Age, Vol 2, Pages 210-211

Thus when we invoke or evoke through prayer or mediation, it can be the Nirmanakayas who pick it up and act upon it.

These entities have very high contacts in Shamballa for “Their major relationship is with the Triangle of the Buddhas of Activity, and it is under Their creative inspiration that They work.” Discipleship in the New Age, Vol 2, Page 201

Just as a correspondence of Shamballa is the head center in a human, and the Hierarchy corresponds to the heart, there are also a number of correspondents to the sixth kingdom , the ajna, or third eye of the Planetary Logos.

On the upper end of evolution, we have the Three Buddhas of Activity just mentioned “Who are to Shamballa what the Nirmanakayas are to the Hierarchy.” Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, Page 45

These great entities act as messengers transmitting intelligence from beyond our solar system to Shamballa. Thus, they have a similar function to the Nirmanakayas, but on a higher level.

On a lower level we have the “New Group of World Servers. This group is the lower correspondence of the Nirmanakayas, the recipients of impression from Shamballa.” Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, Page 122

On a lower level still DK speaks of “the rapport being established between humanity and the domesticated animals. These animals are to their own kingdom what the New Group of World Servers is to humanity.” Telepathy and the Etheric Vehicle, Page 68

Thus, domesticated animals are Nirmanakayas on their own level, sending stimulation and intelligence to those in the wild.

Finally, we humans have within us our own ajna center which corresponds to the Third Eye of the Planetary Logos. Within us the ajna center relates the head to the heart similar to the Nirmanakayas relating Shamballa to the Spiritual Hierarchy.

Not many humans have passed into this sixth kingdom, but eventually the numbers will be significance and when the time comes that advanced humanity is aware of these great beings, then we can expect it to receive a name.

The greater the difficulty, the greater the glory. – Cicero

A Useful Bailey Glossary

A USEFUL BAILEY GLOSSARY

Even though there are a number of esoteric dictionaries and glossaries out there, which are good for their designated purpose, there seems to be a need for one more.

Why?

Because the typical glossary gives a brief sketch of hundreds of words, many of which the reader will never remember or use.  Then too the more important terms are often covered too briefly to give the reader a grasp of the full meaning.

A problem is that the glossaries gather from Hinduism, Buddhism, the many Theosophical works and the Bailey writings which often apply different slants to the meaning. This means that the word you are looking up in reference to the book you are reading may wind up giving you either an inaccurate or incomplete meaning of the word or phrase as used in what you are reading.

Of all the major esoteric works, I find that a really useful glossary for the Bailey books is lacking. There is a brief one at the end of Initiation, Human and Solar, but I find that many new Bailey readers do not get much assistance from it and many quit reading because of a lack of understanding of what is being said in the books.

Therefore, what I sense a need for is a glossary that gives the reader of the Bailey books a fairly in-depth explanation of words and terms used regularly in the 24 books. The focus will be on terms used numerous times, concerning which it is important for the reader to have a grasp of the meaning. We will ignore some of the more obscure terms, for regular esoteric glossaries and dictionaries generally cover them sufficiently.

The purpose them behind this new glossary is to provide essential information on significant words and terms that will be useful, for new as well as seasoned readers of the books by Alice A. Bailey. In turn, because the Bailey books give out much information that is not in regular Theosophical works, the expositions may be useful to students whose focus is Theosophy or other elements of the Ancient Wisdom.

That said, here are links to what has been written so far. Other words and terms will be added until it is complete for its designated purpose.

Excerpts from JJ’s presentations reveal that we progress through approximately 1000 lifetimes represented by the 1000 petaled lotus in the crown chakra. At first we progress through trial and error, and eventually achieve soul contact which accelerates our progress.

3. The One Thing
JJ explains the importance of finding the one thing that you are supposed to learn in this life and then how to accomplish it.

4. Why Are We Here?
What was it that drew us to this world of time and space where there is risk, pain and suffering as well as joy, happiness and sense of accomplishment?

5. How Healing Miracles Occur
What are the principle Jesus used to heal that are also available to us? It is pointed out that He never took credit Himself, but gave the credit to the faith of the person being healed.

6 Listening to the Inner Voice
Speaks of the importance of trusting the inner voice over the outer.

7. Who is Your Savior?
The two types of love. Who is the least of the brethren that we are supposed to love?

8. Prayer and the Point of Tension
Why are some prayers answered and others not? How to get an answer.

9. The Gathering Principle
The Key to Spiritual Evolution

10. The Illusion of Guilt and Sin
Guilt is different from conscience and is caused by illusion. The meaning of sin has been corrupted and had different meaning in the days of Jesus.

11. The Dominating Good
The reason that good dominates in the universe is discussed as well as the core meaning behind good and evil.

12. The Second Coming of Christ
The three stages of the Second Coming. Mistaken notions on the Second Coming. How many will recognize Him? The Dweller on the Threshold. You find what you are looking for.

13. The Real vs Illusion
How our desires keep us in illusion. The importance of finding the truth. “The truth is true and nothing else is true.”

14. The Mysteries of the Book of Revelation
The meaning behind this book is not what you think. JJ reveals what the first chapter means when it said 2000 years ago that the things in the book “will shortly come to pass.”

15. Discovering Reincarnation
Many are taught by their religious leaders that reincarnation is not correct, that there is only one life. JJ relates his journey of discovery that proved to him that reincarnation is true.

16. Molecular Politics
Both major parties claim to represent the will of the people, but their actions often prove otherwise, and policies are implemented that cause the people many problems.. A plan is presented that will give the people themselves the ultimate power.
For the complete plan check out JJ’s book at Amazon. Search there under books for Dewey Molecular Politics

17. The Ten Needs
The fulfillment of ten human needs necessary to a happy life are discussed.

18. Life is Fair
It is common to hear people say that life is not fair, and indeed this seems to be the case. Fortunately, this is not true and this discussion explains why life is fair.

19. The Initiations
There are nine initiations on the path to total liberation. Seven of them are taken on this planet. The first three is of great importance to seekers of wisdom  who will be listening to this.

20. The Mysteries of the Afterlife
What happens after we die? Why are there so many versions in NDE and psychic accounts? Is there a heaven or hell and what creates these two states?

21. Are Conspiracies Real?
Conspiracy theories seem to surface at the drop of a hat and many of them are obviously the result of an over active imagination. Yet we know that there are true conspiracies in the world. How can we tell the true from the false and where would we look to find the truth?

22. Life is a Game
What is the purpose of life? Perhaps it is no more complicated than the fact that all intelligent life likes to play games, and life is the most challenging game of all.

23. Overcoming Limitations to Liberation
Layers of obstacles exist between seekers and the Spirit including the pull of the physical world, the emotional and the lower mind. The seeker must tap into the Purpose behind all creation to take the next liberating steps.

24. Honesty – A Key to Liberation
We place a cloud between ourselves and our souls when we deceive, but sometimes we find ourselves in situations where lying seems necessary. How to avoid these situations is discussed.

25. The Mysterious Name of Jesus Christ
Jesus didn’t plan on keeping the name of Jesus Christ to himself, but intended for disciples to understand its meaning, take upon themselves His name and use its power.

26. Resolving Guilt
Guilt not only causes a problem with peace of mind, but also our health. When guilt is neutralized life energy flows and health is greatly improved.

Prayers and the New Song

Prayers and the New Song

The book under discussion in chapter five of Revelation represents the knowledge of God as it is revealed through the Oneness principle and differing types of revelation takes place on the various planes. One of the meanings of the seven seals is the implication that there is specific knowledge and principles that apply to our sphere of activity which must be loosed and revealed to us.

The 24 elders represent advanced souls (masters) either on heaven or on earth who have perfected the molecular relationship. Whether they are male of female physically does not matter, but they represent 12 male and 12 female energy units. They also represent the higher self.

A more personalized correspondence is this: The pilgrim incarnates through the zodiac clockwise until he becomes a disciple. Then when he learns to go against the material flow he incarnates in reverse or counterclockwise. The twelve clockwise and 12 counterclockwise increments also corresponds to the 24 points of wisdom represented here for these 24 great lessons makes a master of wisdom, or an Elder before the throne.

“And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.” Rev 5:8

If we skip to verse 11 we see there are three groups praising the Lamb, the beasts, the elders and millions of angels.

Interpretation: The lower self (beasts), the masters (elders) and the inner guides (angels) acknowledge the sacrifice of the lamb, that the disciple has obeyed the soul and followed as the lamb, but has now graduated. The lamb is sacrificed and the lion emerges with all power in heaven and earth. The lamb is not dead, but transformed. He still follows the inner voice but now knows the voice and is as confident as the lion.

So what do the harps represent?

A harp must be tuned and when it is, beautiful music is played for the Master. We not only receive from God but give to him. The playing of the harp signifies that when we attain the Christ consciousness, we become finely tuned in both our lower and higher natures and are likened to a musical instrument joining in the “music of the spheres” to play in the great symphony of God.

Next it speaks of the “golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.”

The golden vials represent the relative perfection of both parts of the of the nature of the Christed one. Such a divine servant senses the prayers and desires of the saints, or those who are pure in heart, following the highest they know. He then performs the duty of the name of Christ and reaches out to those who pray for more light and truth, and seeks to give it to them so they can advance to where he is. This is the true work of Christ.

Each of us can search for the gold (truth) within us and share it with those who are seeking. We do this to some degree in this group. It is our duty to listen to the prayers of the saints.

The New Song

Here are the next two verses

“And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.” Rev 5:9

“And they sung a new song…”

The word “new” here bears examining. There are two basic words for new in the Biblical Greek. The first is NEOS which means new in the point of time. The second is KAINOS which has the same meaning as NEOS but with the addition that the thing is new in the aspect that it has never existed before. When Jesus talked of “new wine” he used NEOS, for wine had existed before the new wine. But all through the book of Revelation KAINOS is used which tells us of things that never were which are coming to pass.

When John therefore speaks of singing a new song he is speaking of a new creation, something that was not sung before. When God in Revelation says he does “all things new” it means he is creating that which has never existed in the past.

There is truth in the statement of Solomon that “there is nothing new under the sun,” but it is not literally true as evidenced by Revelation for there always comes a cycle where a new creation manifests that is different than any other in the universe.

How does this relate to us?

When the seeker contacts the soul, the Christ in him, he discovers new principles and knowledge that was never before seen by him and his whole being, higher and lower, sing with joy, a new song of thankfulness.

Now keep in mind that the song is new, not the repetition of that which is old. It reads:

“Thou art worthy to take the book,”

The fact that one discovers he is worthy when the Christ within is contacted is new to the seeker. All this time he saw himself as unworthy and now he sees through the eyes of Christ that he is sinless before God. This is a new and joyous revelation.”

…and to open the seals thereof…”

Soul contact reveals that he is worthy of unlocking knowledge that he thought was sealed to him and could only be given to prophets and holy men.

“for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.”

The old self who saw himself as limited and unworthy is slain and replaced by the worthy Christ within. The great and new realization is that this blood (the life of Christ) is available not just to you, or holy men of the past, but all peoples, tongues and nations.

“And hast made us unto our God kings and priests…”

Those who discover the Christ within become a king of their own domain and universe. They no longer bear the mark of the beast where an outward authority (king) must give them permission to think or to act, but they have discovered the true authority within.

The seeker no longer goes to any Priest to make intercession with God, but he is his own priest and can contact the God within for himself.

“…and we shall reign on the earth.”

Spirit has always reigned in heaven, but now something new has occurred. When the seeker finds the Christ within, he discovers that the Christ in heaven has also manifested through him as the Christ on earth. Since Christ has all power in “heaven and earth,” he reigns through us on earth as in heaven.

A reader quotes me as follows: “There is truth in the statement of Solomon that ‘there is nothing new under the sun,’ but it is not literally true”

Then he says, “Well is it true or isn’t it JJ? Can’t have it both ways.”

JJ: I am not trying to have it both ways and my beliefs do not collide here.

What I said was comparable to saying there is truth in the statement “an atom is like a solar system,” but it is not literally a solar system.” Or, there is truth in the statement “an airplane is like a bird, but it is not literally a bird.”

Even so there is truth in the statement that “there is nothing new under the sun.” And what is that truth?

It is true that history repeats many elements of itself so that no matter what happens there are some similarities to what has happened in the past.

The United States, for instance, has many similarities to ancient Rome and even more ancient Atlantis. Some look at the similarities and think there is nothing new going on because certain elements have repeated.

But not all elements have repeated. There is a forward cycle to all evolution and within this forward cycle there are certain elements that are totally new and never been externalized before.

Every new entity that comes to the earth is like any other entity in many ways, but in other ways it is new and unique, different than any other living thing in the universe.

Thus there is truth in Solomon’s truism, but there is also truth in the use of KAINOS in Revelation, or new things that have never before exactly been.

These two gleanings of truth from seemingly contradictory scriptures highlights two statements from DK.

(1) “Words veil truth.” In other words, it is difficult to put a thought into words so its meaning is literally seen in every application.

(2) He also said that two sets of teachings from even masters may appear to contradict, even though they do not when seen from a higher angle.

The Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge

Questions concerning Revelation chapter five:

(1) What did God look like?

(2) What is the meaning of the rainbow?

(3) Who are the 24 Elders? Do you think they are all men? What is the meaning of the crowns of Gold?

First, we are told that God was to “look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.”

Now the interesting thing is that exactly what a jasper and sardine stone was 2000 years ago may have been lost to history. Plato mentions these three stones in his writings as very precious and they are mentioned several other times in the scriptures. Later in Revelations we are told that the light of the New Jerusalem “was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal.” Rev 21:11

Why is this significant?

Because the modern jasper is a dull opaque stone whereas the jasper of revelation was “clear as crystal.” Some scholars think John may have been describing a diamond or something similar. On the other hand, the sardine stone was supposed to be blood red. Scholars believe the emerald of ancient times was similar to the modern emerald.

When John saw God he thus saw a translucent white light contrasted by a deep red and the reflection of a rainbow of colors around the throne that looked like light reflected through an emerald.

There is another mention of the contrast of white and blood red in Rev 7:14 “These (the saints) are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

The robes of the saints were made white by being washed in blood. Did John see a correspondence of this symbol in that the Jasper is made clear white through the contrast of the blood red of the sardine stone?

A major point to consider is John does not describe God as a man sitting on a throne, but as lights resting upon and around the throne.

Even so, when the disciple goes within he will discover a door and on the other side of the door he will discover a variety of lights, or God resting upon his throne.

Here is one description that DK gives of the light in the head: “This pathway of light leads to the heart of a dark blue disk at the very centre of which you were told I could be contacted. Those of you who are in any way adept at meditation work know well that the light in the head when seen and recognised passes usually through three stages of intensification:

“a. It is, first of all, a diffused light, surrounding the head, discovered later within the head and producing an inner radiance, which is the rudimentary halo.

“b. This diffused light then consolidates and becomes an inner radiant sun.

“c. Finally, at the centre of that sun, a point of dark blue, or a small indigo disk, appears. This is, in reality, the exit in the head through which the soul passes out of the world of phenomenal existence, and it is the symbol of the path or the door into the kingdom of God. This is the symbolical interpretation of the phenomena.”

In addition he makes another interesting statement: “The human being who has taken the highest of all our planetary initiations is termed “the diamond-souled” the man who can perfectly transmit the pure white light and yet reflect equally all the colours of the rainbow, the seven colours of the chromatic scale. His personality is here called by the same term for it has become a transmitter of the inner light or radiance.”

He also calls the link between the higher and lower self the rainbow bridge. The personality has all the colors of the rainbow which are merged into the one white light of God.

The lower self circulates around the throne of God, but the final light sitting upon the throne is white, clear as crystal.

Round about the throne were 24 Elders. When the scriptures says “elder” we have a tendency to think of a male dominated position, but the word comes from the Greek: PRESBUTEROS which implies old or ancient, These twenty four also sat on thrones, mistranslated as seats.

As we said at the beginning the book is about the unveiling of Jesus Christ and for what was Christ most famous? The first historical human molecule of twelve human units, twelve male with twelve female companions. The twenty-four have thrones as God does because they are extensions of the full consciousness of Christ.

Finally, the crowns of gold symbolize the victory over the lower nature and the ability to maintain soul contact at all times so the molecular order maintains its presence before the throne of God.

Here are the next two voices:

“And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. Rev 4:6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.” Rev 4:5-6

Contemplate as to what the symbols in these verses mean.

The lightenings from the throne or presence of God are flashes of light, intuition and revelation the seeker discovers as he approaches the inner presence.

The thunderings are the inner quaking  that penetrates to the core as one senses the voice of God within.

The voices are the expressed communication the seeker makes as he translates the revelation into words as he teaches his fellowmen the principles he received.

The seven spirits of God are the seven chakras as they apply to the individual.

The Sea of Glass is the highest of the seven planes or the “divine.” On the physical level that which corresponds to this is space itself, whether it be the space which holds the stars or the space within our being.

Whereas space in the physical plane is filled with blackness, space within the divine is filled with light and produces the effect of a sea of glass to the seer.

Now think some more about the meaning of the four beasts and the eyes within.

“„…round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind. And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle. And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever.” Rev 4:6-9

The most obvious thing of interest here is that these four beasts are symbols of the fixed cross of the zodiac. The first beast was the lion, the symbol of Leo, the second a calf for Taurus, the third a man, a symbol of Aquarius and the fourth a flying eagle, one of the symbols of Scorpio. Each sign of the zodiac is in one of the three crosses: the mutable, the fixed and the cardinal. The fact that all four of these signs are in one cross shows that the astrological connection is no coincidence, but an important message is embedded therein through symbolism.

The meaning of the fixed cross signifies fixed intent, persistence, reliability and firmness – that which can be depended upon.

This gave the early saints three messages: (1) You can depend on God to stand by you, (2) he who endures to the end shall be saved, (3) a symbol of the cross whereon the Son of God was fixed between heaven and earth.

Each of the beasts has six wings. Isaiah calls these beasts Seraphim “In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.” Isaiah 6:1-3

Searaphim comes from the Hebrew SARAPH and means “burning or fiery ones.” This is translated as “fiery serpents” in Numbers 21:6 & 8 and as a “fiery flying serpent” in Isaiah 14:29

The fact that these four beasts are associated with serpents (a symbol of wisdom) tells us that there is much wisdom to be gained through an understanding of the fours signs of the fixed cross. The fact that they are fiery before the throne of God is a sign that enlightenment can come through the contemplation of God’s handiwork in the heavens.

The six wings are a symbol of the six worlds of creation with the seventh being the throne of God or the sea of glass. Four wings cover the fiery light and only two are in use which tells us that average humanity cannot see (wings covering the face) or work (wings covering the feet) in the higher worlds. They are limited to two worlds ˆ the physical and emotional. When the “mark of the beast” is removed, two more wings shall be free and cause the seeker to gain greater power of flight to the world of the mind and intuition or higher love.

The four beasts were “full of eyes before and behind.” [ Rev 4:6] “Before” is a symbol of a vision of the future and “behind” a symbol of the past. The beasts speak of that “which was, and is, and is to come.” [ Rev 4:8]

This tells us that when we uncover the secrets of the throne of God (the stars of heaven) that we can decode the secrets of the past, present and future.

This is the destiny of the science of astrology, which is yet in its infancy as far as the general understanding of humanity is concerned.

Unveiling Revelation

Unveiling Revelation

Time for a new venture my friends.

Several times over the past few years have readers expressed an interest in unlocking more of the secrets of the Apocalypse, or the Book of Revelation. When we first started the Keys we spent several months on the most mysterious of all scripture which was Chapter Thirteen of the book dealing with the Beast and the antichrist. This continues to this day to be among my most quoted writings delivering interpretations found nowhere else, except as they have been placed in circulation since that time.

Now we will go through the rest of the vision of John and again instead of taking orthodox interpretation we shall search for the real meaning behind the symbols. This may take a while to complete, but when done we should have plenty of material for a book or two and hopefully, we can shed light where before there were only shades of gray.

The first three chapters are not part of the Great vision, but are messages to the seven churches at that time. Even these are more interesting than meets the eye, but for the sake of brevity we shall skip over them at this time, except for the first three verses of the first chapter which applies to the book as a whole and reads:

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.” Rev 1:1-3

There are several interesting statements here that are ignored by many commentators.

(1) The book is a “Revelation of Jesus Christ.”

“Revelation” here comes from the Greek APOKALUPSIS. Does this Greek word look a little familiar? It should for it is the word from which “Apocalypse” is derived. The book is sometimes called the Book of Revelation and sometimes The Apocalypse, but in reality the name is the same. “Apocalypse” is the Greek rendition and “Revelation” the English of the same word.

Let us examine the word a little more carefully. APOKALUPSIS is translated in a variety of ways including, “revelation, be revealed, to lighten, manifestation, coming and appearing.” It is derived from the Greek APOKALUPTO which means “to take off the cover.” This is perhaps the reason the Concordant version translates the word as “unveiling.” In fact, their translation does not name the book Revelation or the Apocalypse, but “The Unveiling of Jesus Christ.” Unveiling has a deeper meaning than the word revelation. A revelation of Jesus Christ could occur by having a short vision and seeing his image. But an unveiling is a different story. A short vision could not do this. To unveil Jesus Christ would imply the revealing of his mystery, layer after layer until there is a full understanding of the light received.

I therefore, submit that the purpose of the book is much more than a mere revelation that there is such a being as the Christ, but that there is an unfolding of a mystery like the unfolding of a flower by the power of the light of the Sun.

Keep this thought in mind as we proceed.

(2) John was shown things “which must shortly come to pass.”

This seems to be an odd statement indeed when almost 2000 years has passed since it was written and most believe that the events have still not come to pass. Where is the great comet striking the earth? Where is the antichrist and where are the waters that are turned to blood etc? 2000 years is not a short time by any human standard, yet the scripture says these things would shortly come to pass.

Now note the end of verse three:

“the time is at hand.”

Not only is the time short, but the time is at hand. Is it possible that all predictions within the book have already happened, or perhaps they repeat themselves on a cyclic nature? This is a good question to keep in mind as we examine the text.

(3) “Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.” Verse 3

Thus is a very interesting statement. Why?

Because most people who read the book do not feel blessed. Many feel almost cursed with fear instead because of all the calamities predicted there. How can you feel blessed when you feel that a good portion of the earth may be destroyed and many loved ones will suffer great calamities?

Or is it possible the book is misunderstood, that the real purpose is to unveil Jesus Christ and such an unveiling will bring a blessing and not a curse?

Keep this thought in mind as we move forward.

Now let us go to the first part of the vision:

“After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.” Rev 4:1-2

The first thing you might want to do is to get an overview of chapter four and read the whole thing.

For purposes of interpretation forget the literal vision and whether or not John saw images with a real existence. Instead remember this one important point. All form, real or imagined, represents a real inner truth that can enlighten the understanding.

Questions:

(1) What is the door which was open in heaven?

(2) Why did the first voice sound like a trumpet? What is the meaning of the sound of a trumpet?

(3) What is the throne set in heaven?
