The Solar Angel
A very complex treatise could be written on the solar angels, as DK says quite a bit about their history, incarnation into this system and their interaction with lesser lives. We’ll thus keep this defining article as simple as possible while giving the reader a grasp of its essence.
The term “Solar Angel” was made popular in the Bailey writings and has a scant mention in other Theosophical writings. Blavatsky only mentions it a couple times, but also calls them Manasaputras, Sons of God, Mind-born sons, Sons of Wisdom and various other names. They are also classified as Agnishvattas in the Bailey writings.
As it is, most of what we know about them is from DK in the Bailey writings. Here is a brief summary.
The Solar Angels are very advanced entities who went though many incarnation experiences as we do here, but in a previous creation and achieved a high degree of perfection and liberation.
“We must remember that they are the beings who, in earlier manvantaras have achieved, and who—in this round—waited for a specific moment at which to enter, and so continue their work. Treatise on Cosmic Fire, Page 699
After a long period of advancement, they rested in the great pralaya or “in the Heart of God until the hour was come.” (TCF Pg 702)
Their hour came when there was a need for primitive humans to obtain self-consciousness and eventually become solar angels themselves.
Approximately 18 million years ago they came to assist the primitive humans in reaching self-consciousness through stimulating their minds through their causal bodies. They have been here ever since assisting us in and out of incarnation attempting to bring us upward in awareness to where they are. Concerning them it is written:
“The great solar Angel, Who embodies the real man and is his expression on the plane of higher mind, is literally his divine ancestor, the “Watcher” Who, through long cycles of incarnation, has poured Himself out in sacrifice in order that man might BE.” Initiation Human and Solar, Pg 115
“Their appearance upon the mental plane brought about the union of Spirit and matter, and from this union was born a self-conscious Identity, the Ego.” Treatise on Cosmic Fire, Page 702
Slowly the process has taken place in that the human souls have been stimulated and eventually begin to consciously recognize their solar parent. We are finally at the state where a handful of humanity have learned to be one with and adjust to the vibration of the solar angel so they will move in consciousness from the lower lunar control to the solar. When this happens, the solar angel has completed its mission and returns to its Source.
“The sacrifice of the solar angels brought the fourth kingdom in nature into being. The “returning nirvanis” (as they are called in esoteric literature), with deliberation and full understanding, took human bodies in order to raise those lower forms of life nearer to the goal. These were and are ourselves. The “Lords of Knowledge and Compassion and of ceaseless persevering Devotion” (who are ourselves) chose to die in order that lesser lives might live, and this sacrifice has made possible the evolution of the indwelling consciousness of Deity.” Esoteric Psychology, Vol 2, Page 92
“The causal body disintegrates; the personality fades out, and illusion is ended.” Treatise on White Magic Pg 388
“Once he becomes the conscious builder himself, seeking to control the forces and builders of his lower nature, and to construct the Temple of Solomon, then he is no longer subject to the earlier conditions. He becomes a ruler, a builder, and a transmitter, until the time comes when he is one with the solar Angels, and the work of human evolution is accomplished. Treatise on Cosmic Fire, Pg 946
“Then the Bull of God (enlightened human) carries the light in his forehead, and his eye transmits the radiance; His head, with magnetic force, resembles the blazing sun, and from the lotus of the head, the path of light issues. It enters into the Greater Being, producing a living fire. The Bull of God sees the Solar Angel, and knows that Angel to be the light wherein he walks. Treatise on White Magic, Pg 108
From the time that we arrive at self-consciousness to the fourth initiation where the lower self is sacrificed, that which we call the “higher self” usually has reference to the Solar Angel which overshadows our developing soul. But then the time arrives where our own soul becomes one with the Solar Angel and shares in its awareness. When this time arrives, the Solar Angel has completed its mission and returns to its Source. It has not only assisted lives lower than itself, but has gained valuable experience that will aid it its own progression.
Meanwhile, the human soul has progressed to the status of a solar angel and instead of being overshadowed by a solar being the pilgrim is overshadowed by his own monad which has never left its Source.
As a solar angel the entity has a new sense of mission that “Through their sacrifice, matter is lifted up into Heaven.” Esoteric Psychology II Page 93
In other words, the goal is to link heaven and earth, or we could say:
“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.” Matt 6:10
My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is Heaven, my road is narrow, my way is rough, my companions are few, my guide is reliable, my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted, or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate … at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in a maze of mediocrity.
