Higher, Lower and Infinity

Higher, Lower and Infinity

Earlier I wrote: “Those beginners on the Path may relate enlightening facts to those farther along than themselves, but they can never directly teach them principles. Principles are only passed down from higher to lower. If any of us achieve enlightenment on any principle, it is either inspired by a person who is further along the path than ourselves or from our Higher Selves. What we are saying here is, in fact, a principle: Enlightenment proceeds from the top down, never from the bottom up.”

This does not imply that a lower initiate cannot teach a higher one anything. As I said anyone can teach anyone else facts, for none of us have all facts available floating around in our heads.

Notice carefully my wording. I was talking about the beginner on the path who has yet to grasp what a principle is. The seasoned travelers have an understanding of principles and it is possible that a lower initiate may have concentrated on a principle or two that the higher initiate has not. However, the higher initiate will understand what the lower is saying around a principle before the conversation is finished. Initiates see principles in a flash if they are paying attention.

Since the beginner cannot grasp what a principle is he cannot effectively teach it to anyone.

It is a true principle that spiritual knowledge flows from the higher to the lower but the soul of man is a master on its own plane so whether we are high or low, a revelation from the soul is sublime and inspiring to all. A revelation through the soul is definitely a flow from the higher to the lower even if it be that a first degree initiate receives it and gives the knowledge to a third degree.

Thoughts on Infinity

Some here have difficulty in agreeing with my premise that there is no such thing as infinity or the infinite.

Given that every religion on the earth has pounded this concept into our minds from our youth, the reluctance to consider it may be illusion is understandable.

There are several reasons to not believe in infinity.

  1. It can never be counted or measured.
  2. It can never be discovered or experienced.
  3. It can never be described.
  4. It can never be demonstrated.
  5. You can add one to any number.
  6. It can never be imagined.

What’s that you say? You have imagined it?

I don’t think so. You have thought about the word and the idea, but you have never imagined infinity itself.

Why is this true? Because no matter what it is you have imagined, you can always imagine one more thing, and then one more still. Therefore, that which you imagined is not infinity.

The worlds were created by God’s imagination, but the creation is not infinite because God can always imagine one more thing.

If we want to know what God’s imagination is like we must look at our own because we are reflections of Him.

Have you ever imagined so much that you cannot imagine one more thing? Neither has God. Have you ever imagined a number so big that you cannot add one to it? Neither has God. Have you ever imagined a world so far away that there cannot be one further still? Neither has God.

The universe seems infinite because we are parts of God and we cannot out-imagine the Divine. No matter where your imagination goes, it has already been explored by the One Great Life.

Our existence, as well as the universe itself, is not infinite, but unlimited and in a state of expansion. It is a scientific fact that the universe is expanding and is therefore larger than it was an hour ago. Since you cannot get anything larger than infinity this means the universe is not infinite, else it could not expand.

Consider the number zero as the starting point for your existence in this universe. As you move to 1, 2, 3, 4, to millions, billions and trillions you never reach an ultimate number. You can always add one. We are never an infinity of years from zero, but always a specific number, for everything, even the number of atoms in the universe, has a specific number. We can expand and progress as long as we can imagine and then we will stop at a specific number, rest and go back to zero.

What about before existence as we know it?

To measure this we use negative numbers and if we go back in time we do not reach infinity, but eventually reach another zero or starting point.

Our whole existence is to have joy and fulfillment.

Which would you choose? A world of perfection and the infinite where no additional step can be taken and there is no new experience to be had, no new joy to savor?

OR

Unlimited expansion, progress and new experiences?

I choose the latter and because I have made this choice this is what I have.

Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently. Henry Ford

Question: Isn’t Infinite defined as Having no boundaries or limits?

No. An infinite number is a number so large that it cannot get any larger. No further expansion is possible.

Unlimited numbering has no boundaries but in the numbering process you will always arrive at a specific number. There will never be a time that a specific number does not describe the number of particles or events.

Because infinity can never be reached then it does not exist and is used only as a theoretical number in mathematics.

Never ending and eternal goes toward the theoretical infinity but never gets there.

“And the Lord God spake unto Moses, saying: The heavens, they are many, and they cannot be numbered unto man; but they are numbered unto me, for they are mine.” Moses 1:37
