Going No More Out

Going No More Out

“Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.” Rev 3:11

The Master speaks of coming quickly several times in these series of instructions. Not only does it mean he could come unexpectedly but it also tells us there is no time to waste. The seeker must not take his eye off the ingredients he has accumulated that will bring him the crown of victory. He cannot just rest and think he can keep hold of his good qualities but must hold them “fast.” He must not take his mind off his inner light, else it dims, but keep his focus.

“Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.” Rev 3:12

Again, the word “overcometh” is used. This implies the disciple must do much more than merely confess Jesus and be saved as the old-time religion teaches. He must also do more than “go with the flow” as many new agers believe. Instead, he must overcome all the obstacles in the path of liberation and become a master of each of them as he moves forward.

Those who do overcome will be made “a pillar in the temple of my God…”

The fact that the disciple will become a pillar in the temple of God gives us a clue to the symbology of the temple. Obviously, the temple here is not a regular building of stone, but a living building constructed of actual beings who have overcome the pull of materialism and lower self.

Just as our physical bodies are made of millions of living cells, and called a temple in the scriptures, even so is the temple of God constructed of beings linked together in a divine order to construct the body of God called the temple of God. God, who is greater than the sum of his parts, inhabits and flows through every life within that great temple.

He who overcomes shall be more than a mere cell but a “pillar in the temple.” A pillar holds the temple up and keeps it standing. The pillars are also on the entrance to the building. This tells us that the one who overcomes becomes a pillar of strength, one upon whom others can lean and renew their strength. He stands at the entrance point to the kingdom of God and invites others to discover the kingdom within and explore all of its creations and joys.

A stanza from the “Affirmation of the Disciple” places this principle into beautiful words:

“I am a way by which men may achieve.

“I am a source of strength, enabling them to stand.

“I am a beam of light, shining upon their way.

“And thus I stand.”

Next, we are given a curious statement that he “shall go no more out.”

This statement is full of meaning on several layers. Let us discuss two of them.

(1) Each of us has the spark of the divine within, and when we “fall” into matter and take incarnation we lose that inner contact for many lifetimes. We have to keep coming back life after life until we fully manifest that inner spark. When this is accomplished we can return to the God State and go no more out, or no longer have to be reborn into the physical world.

(2) Going out no more implies more than not having to be reborn in the physical world; it also tells us that the seeker shall never again leave the consciousness of the Spirit, whether he be in the body or out of the body.

Some disciples overcome sufficiently to become a pillar of God in the higher worlds and do not have to “go out”, or be reborn, unless they decide to.

Being reborn for these “new pillars” is dangerous, however, for they can still get caught in the clutches of the lower forces and get trapped again in the physical world. It may take them a series of lifetimes to center themselves again so they can regain their status as a pillar. This is a chance many of them take for two reasons: first is the love of humanity and a desire to serve; second is to gain the final power to go in and out of incarnation yet keep their spiritual focus and alignment with purpose. When this mastery is gained the disciple truly is never out of the temple whether he be in the physical world or out of the world.

“and I will write upon him the name of my God,” If the disciple bears the name of God, he is indeed one with God as proclaimed by Jesus when he said “I and my Father are one.” Jesus also said “Ye are gods” to the people. (John 10:34). One of the names, or titles of God, is just the word “God.” If one bears this name he fulfills the scripture which tells us that we “are gods.”

In addition, the disciple bears the name of God when he discovers the presence of God who resides within him and identifies with this inner life above the outer world.

“…and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem,” He also has written within him the name of the city of God. What is the difference between the name of God and the name of the city? It is this: when we think of God we think of the One. When we think of a city we think of the many. The name of God is a symbol of the One Great Life that pervades all. The name of the city is the realization that through us God is also many, and all of us are part of the body or temple of God.

“which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.” First, we need to correct a mistranslation. “I will write upon him” was added by the translators in an effort to make sense of the passage. This does not appear in the Greek. It should be translated as: “which cometh down out of heaven from my God and my new name.”

In other words, the city of God comes down out of heaven not only from God, but from the new name of the one who is speaking to the churches, the Christ; the Inner God.

Heaven refers to higher consciousness, and in that higher state the seeker finds the One God as well as the many in the New Jerusalem. This scripture adds some light:

“But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect.” Heb 12:22-23

What does it mean that the New Jerusalem not only comes from God, but from the new name?

For the seeker, the old name of God was a God without. He was in Heaven “up there.” He was the voice of the priest, the prophets or the words of the physical Bible. The new name of God is within and the inner voice may tell him things that he has never heard from the Bible or any physical teacher. From the new within he learns the good, the beautiful and the true, and links with the “innumerable company” that creates the New Jerusalem.

“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” Rev 3:13

Thus ends the letter with the repetition of good advice.

The Ray of Philadelphia

At Stage Six, the seeker is governed by Ray Two, The Ray of Love/Wisdom.

The ray for this is perhaps the most obvious, for the word Philadelphia means “brotherly love.” The key of David is mentioned and David means “beloved”, for David was a man after God’s own heart.

Soul Revisited

Soul Revisited

There seems to be some confusion as to how soul contact is defined in the Ancient Wisdom as well as in this group. Soul energy is that point where spirit and matter meet and in saying it is indeed all pervasive, but there are many things which co-exist with us that are not contacted by our consciousness.

The average person has two contacts with his consciousness. These two are the physical and the astral or emotional plane. The advanced person has a third contact, which is with mental matter from the plane of the mind.

Does this mean that mental matter does not exist for the emotional person? No, he is surrounded by it, but just has no conscious contact with it. It’s a little like a person with no sense of smell being surrounded by the odor of flowers, but it does him little good because he cannot perceive the fragrance.

Then as one approaches discipleship, he perceives higher mind and after that, the buddhic plane. As his consciousness perceives this point between form and formlessness he then contacts the soul energy and opens the door to receive from others who have also made that contact and above. This includes, of course, his solar angel.

A reader says: “All is good when you have YOUR life and certain things to make it bearable for you. It’s easier to ignore it for a moment. But one day, those things aren’t always going to be there. One day you will be as powerless, and in as much pain as anyone you have ever known.”

I’ve already endured more plenty of pain on several levels and also have had many limitations to overcome. That’s why I am able to access peace no matter what goes on around me. I have my limitations, of course, but it would take a very grave situation to distract me.

The suffering I have endured has been a great teacher and has taught me the principle of attrition (as taught in Book 3 of the Immortal Series) and the principle of being the observer.

He then accuses me of pretending problems do not exist.

There is no pretense. I know how to deal with extreme circumstances. Obviously, you are bent on proving me to be a false teacher, but you must deal with the truth here – not wild imaginary accusations.

Question: How can you accurately judge the amount of pain endured by another?

I let people judge themselves. My point was that I have not met anyone who has gone through what I have in the way of pain on various levels or even said they have. When someone has the same experience that you do then they can communicate it to you and there is an understanding. Keep in mind that physical pain is just one of the discomforts we can endure. Pain can also be experienced in the emotional and mental bodies and can be more intense than the physical.

Many people have different ideas of what is very painful. Some think of a limitation, a physical pain, a disease, a lost love and other common experiences are in their case painful above all, but there are other levels that make these seem like child’s play.

It was through painful experience that I learned the principle that pain is created by resistance to soul direction. In some lives that soul direction is fairly easy and painless and in others it is very difficult and the natural instinct is to resist. Sometimes that resistance is not realized in the consciousness because it is pre-formed through a mindset.

Since I have learned certain lessons in this cycle I am joyously pain free and immersed in blissful living. Right now I am struggling in other areas and hopefully I can continue with fun struggles the rest of my life.

In all my writings I have said little about painful experiences for several reasons. First, most people would rather hear something positive and rarely does it do much good to dwell on past pain.

Secondly, everyone has had painful experiences and many think their life has been one of the most difficult on record – if others only knew. One painful story brings out others and pretty soon the atmosphere becomes almost depressing.

When pain is replaced by peace the disciple needs to learn to look at the past with amusement and accept the fact that it is actually possible to enjoy everlasting peace and happiness. He needs to enjoy it while it is available for new painful learning experiences on various levels will come in the future.

When we have learned all the lessons that pain has to offer then we will move on to other planes of living where advancement is attained by other means.

The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do. Walter Bagehot (1826 – 1877)

True Compassion

True Compassion

A reader quotes this statement made by me:

“Perhaps the greatest shortcut is soul contact. Then you will find heaven in the here and now and life on earth and off the earth will both be paradise.”

Reader response: And how can you be satisfied with the planet, when there are so many people suffering in the world. Do you have any compassion? Or maybe you are just not aware of what people are going through at this time of such unbalance and disharmony.

WOW! What a leap in making a conclusion. Because I find heaven while living on earth this means I have no compassion and am mean spirited?

Jesus taught about the kingdom within and often talked about his peace that he attempted to share with others. Paul talked about the “Peace that passes all understanding” which he obviously found.

Did these men have no compassion because they found heaven while dwelling on earth?

So do you think that the Masters and even God himself cannot allow themselves to feel peaceful or happy because others suffer in the material worlds?

There will always be suffering somewhere. Do you suppose that because of this all the advanced lives in the universe are doomed to not enjoy happiness and peace for eternity?

There will always be lots of suffering to go around in the universe for billions of years to come. Does this mean that no advanced life can enjoy any happiness? Indeed, that would mean there is no such thing as peace and happiness for decent people.

Makes no sense.

That’s like saying because plants do not think or move that we should identify with them and feel bad that they are so constricted.

All beings must enjoy the amenities of life within their own sphere and when they learn to maintain those accomplishments the lives can then move on.

For those who have discovered soul contact and beyond the greatest compassion they can show is to share the principles that bring it. When the kingdom within has been discovered then the discomforts as well as the comforts of the outer world have little impact or power to distract.

Seek first the kingdom of heaven and all that you desire will be given to you. Then you will find your desires have changed and that which you thought you wanted you will let go and that which you never considered; you will now desire with a spiritual passion.

The inner peace is always there waiting for us to accept it. Once the disciple learns to maintain his focus he keeps the attitude of the observer. He then identifies with soul and spirit, but observes all the rest that brings pain and discomfort as well as joy and happiness. An imperfect comparison would be a person attending a movie with lots of violence, like Silence of the Lambs, for instance. He observes it, but the pain he sees does not interfere with his enjoying his popcorn.

“But,” says one, “the movie is not real but people suffering is.” The answer is a movie is real if we identify with it enough. Pain is caused by people identifying too strongly with physical reality. Just as a realistic movie can cause a watcher to cry, if he identifies strongly, even so can life bring pain if we identify too strongly with the physical. When a person identifies strongly with the physical to the extent that he resists, then spiritual, pain is the result. Resistance of some kind causes all pain.

When the disciple learns to cease resisting spirit and higher will, then pain ceases and eternal life begins.

This is easier said than done for even the Master Jesus had a point of resistance that brought him pain. In the Garden of Gethsemane when he saw the path he was to take he resisted for a moment and asked that the cup be taken from him. This caused him great pain for a short period. It was the one time that we know of that he identified too strongly with something other than spirit and higher will.

In general though throughout the life of the Master, even during most of the crucifixion, nothing was able to take his attention away from the inner kingdom and he was able to keep his peace and composure throughout his life. This verse reflecs his general attitude:

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27

I have ups and downs and painful events occur just as everyone else, but it is rare that my internal peace is disturbed. I had a life and death experience a couple weeks ago that took me off focus for an hour or so, but I forced my attention back on track and all was as it was before. The key is to not identify with the undesirable experience, but to maintain the attitude of the observer at all times.

Many think we would have to block out other people of suppress to not feel their pain but the truth is just the opposite of what you suppose. When the inner kingdom is discovered, the disciple is more sensitive than ever to the needs of others. He is sensitive and aware, but does not identify or suffer unless he resists the impulse of Spirit when it prompts him to assist.

The key to peace is to follow soul contact once it is accessed. As the Master said, his yoke is easy and burden light – when the words of spirit are absorbed by the disciple.

Question: How is it that some have soul contact and others do not?

We are one body, but differentiated. Why is it that some are able to reason logically and others cannot? Why is it that some are creative and others are not? Even so, some have soul contact and some do not. The thing to realize is that all these accomplishments are part of a journey and logic, creativity and soul contact are available to us all if we put our attention in the right direction.

Comment: I cannot see how, even with soul contact, you can be at peace when there is so much suffering.

Why wouldn’t I be in peace? We have power to choose peace or disturbance. Why not choose peace?

Sometimes you just have to look at what works. If you try to figure out the process first you will most likely come to the wrong conclusion. You’ve heard of the engineer that looked at the black and white specs of a bumblebee and concluded mathematically that he could not fly. But the problem was that the bumblebee did fly. Later, others looked more deeply and sure enough the added knowledge applied proved that the lowly bee could fly.

The bumblebee knew he could fly all the time.

Those who discover the kingdom of God within know what works and does not work. Others will say it does not make sense until they have all the knowledge. Then they can step back as did the later engineers with the bumblebee and exclaim that it all makes sense after all.

No person of good will wishes pain, ignorance or discomfort on anyone, but these are all teaching mechanisms that each of us have to pass through. Without them the prize at the end of the path could not be achieved. School and learning can be painful but when the whole picture is seen no one would want to deny this to the students. The job of the disciple is to assist the students through the learning so they become masters of their situations and pain is replaced by joy.

It is not necessary to understand things in order to argue about them. Pierre Beaumarchais (1732 – 1799)

Student-Teacher Revisited

Student-Teacher Revisited

I thought I would post some highlights of a dialog I had with a member of another group who had problems with my first post in the archives about the teacher-student relationship

It never ceases to amazes me how people distort this principle. They seem to go one extreme or the other instead of looking for the balance of the Middle Way.

The person I had the discussion with is a college teacher, a professor I believe.

He starts about by asserting that we do not need leaders or teachers that they just cause problems.

If you believe we need no teachers then you must believe that we need to eliminate all schools with their teachers and all books which were written to teach.

If you believe we need no leaders then you must think a company can run itself with no management whatsoever. If this were feasible then we would see it occur somewhere and it has not.

If you are making the point that most rely too much on teachers and leaders I agree, but to go the other extreme is just as great of an error as the blind following the blind.

He then says that the need for a teacher/leader presumes things are out of order…that things need to be put back in order.

To this I responded that a correct teaching is of the idea of Eternal Progression. Yes, we are going somewhere, but we are not just working on restoring an old order but making “all things new.” We are going where man or God has not gone before and working on new creation and new orders that have not exactly manifested before.

The greatest hell is to have nothing new to create. Hell is creating that which has been over and over until boredom becomes so great that the life force flatlines.

He then tells us that everything is already perfect and we are enjoying eternal life right now.

If everything were perfect, we wouldn’t be here to begin with and there would be no illusion, which is imperfect. We would not be disagreeing and would all see perfectly the same. Obviously, this is not the case.

Next, he says that if God is perfect then this world would also be perfect.

God did not create a perfect world because there is no such thing as perfection within the world of form. What is the perfect diamond, the perfect look, the perfect color, the perfect flower? Perfection is what we define as perfect, or cannot be improved upon, and each person has a different idea of what that is. A perfect world to one may be hell to another. God cannot create a perfect world for you and me because we define and see perfection differently which means that it does not exist in this reality.

He maintains that in this perfect world we need no illusion of kings and queens, priests and priestesses…

You are arguing against a straw man here. I made no mention of “queens, priests and priestesses.” I have talked about students, teachers, leaders and followers – something you must believe in because your profession is that of a teacher.

It is interesting that you criticize me for believing that teachers are necessary but you yourself are a teacher. But then you excuse yourself by indicating that when dealing with the physical plane teachers are necessary but not in spiritual matters. Yet what are you doing in your group? You are teaching spiritual matters. Then you say all is perfect, but go out of your way to explain how imperfect I am and am leading into captivity. It is a strange cornered position you find yourself in.

Next he indicates a belief that my teachings on soul contact and the teacher student relationship will lead people to blindly following authorities.

I don’t follow your logic. Soul contact led me out of the church and NEVER told me to follow religious authorities without thinking. Soul contact freed me and others from outer authorities. You are arguing using a straw man again and the straw man does not apply to anything I have taught.

Maybe I misjudged you. I thought you believed in contacting the inner self to get your doctrine. If not, then what do you consider to be the source of your dialog here? Obviously, it is not religious authorities. Perhaps you just consider your ideas as originating from the thoughts passing through the computer brain.

Next, he demanded to know who my leader was and with which group I am associated.

I am not a member or dedicated to any organization or church so I do not have “a leader.” I have, and have had, many leaders and teachers, however.

The Christ is number one for inspiring me to higher paths. Djwahl Khul who worked with Alice A. Bailey is number two. Joseph Smith, the prophets and other teachers are also right up there.

I attempt to honor all my political leaders. As imperfect as they are, some of their leadership is good and worthy of following.

I hear and read of numerous people who come up with ideas and initiatives in many areas of life worthy of supporting and following.

I run all things from all leaders by my soul for this is the final judge. Then I support those leaders who point in directions that are in harmony with the inner spirit.

You seem to think I must have some leader to whom I give supreme authority and this idea is far removed from anything I teach or practice.

The he tells us he once read some of the Bailey books and was at first impressed but then came to the conclusion that “These folks could talk great, but they didn’t appear to get what they, themselves, were saying.” He thinks this applies to all the supposed hierarchy who are deceptively telling us to climb into a box so we can be free.

It doesn’t sound like you read more than a couple pages of the Bailey material. It was transmitted by one person, a Tibetan named Djwahl Khul – not folks. If you have studied him at all you would know that he was extremely self-aware and knew exactly what he was saying.

You present a straw man here that has nothing to do with anything I teach. The existence of a hierarchy does not mean you have tyrants who order you to mindlessly jump. There are good leaders and bad leaders. It is as simple as that, just as there are good teachers and bad teachers. I’m sure you consider yourself one of the good teachers – speaking of you professionally. One with soul contact will accept the good and disregard the bad.

Next, he says we will all someday look back and laugh heartily at ourselves…and those we once worshiped as leaders, and the people will push and shove to be the first!

The lesser evolved shove to be first. The more advanced push forward without thought of first or last but for the pure joy of service, benefiting the whole and moving ahead to the new plateau of realization.

I have never worshipped a leader; neither does anyone who is centered in the soul.

Then he says that we will discover that the Great White Brotherhood are no more advanced than the rest of us.

The Great White Brotherhood is defined as Christ and his inner disciples. Anyone who believes in Christ and that He does not work alone believes in the Brotherhood. Of course, one could claim that someone he does not agree with is not in contact with the true Christ, but that is another matter of debate. I think most people in this group believe in Christ and that he is surrounded by co-disciples. They may call this group by different names, but a rose is a rose by any other name.

You really seem bent on leading us into no leadership – an oxymoron for sure. Or perhaps not. Maybe you are really pushing and shoving to be the leader.

Next, he asks that if we can find truth within, then why do we need leaders or hierarchies of authority at all?

The problem here is you are trying to put me in some box, stereotyping me with some group that exists within your mind.

I have not taught that we can find truth by going within alone. I have taught that going within is just half the process. The other half is being stimulated from without. We must be planted with seed thoughts and ideas from without and then verify and expand the essential truth from within. Both the within and the without are necessary to find the truth. If one seeks to find truth by going within only then he will find nothing that relates to truth within the worlds of form whereupon we reside.

As proof of this take a look at those who have had no outside stimulation and only had the world within from which to learn. Perhaps you’ve read stories of young children who were locked in a room by sick parents for many years and left there with nothing but their inner world to ponder.

What is interesting is that if such a child was placed in that situation at the age of 6 and released at the age of 12 then he will still see himself as a 6-year-old and act as a 6-year-old. It is as if he has learned nothing for six years, not even his true age.

This illustrates that we need the outside stimulation to learn.

We must be stimulated from the outside and then verify from the inside.

He asks why we need pyramidal structures of leaders upon leaders as exists in government and religion.

Hierarchy has always existed and always will in the worlds of form. Without leadership and hierarchy civilization would fall apart and disintegrate into chaos.

The reason there is such a chaos in some third world countries, for example, is that there is not a hierarchy which is followed by the populace. There will continue to be chaos until such leadership is established and respected.

This does not mean that an enlighten person follows mindlessly, but it is indeed mindless to not follow or support anything.

No support of structure leads to collapse of structure, but when there is no structure, you have anarchy where gang rule prevails.

He then reduces our argument to [1] Following leaders instead of going within or [2] Receiving from within instead of following leaders.

Again, you overlook what I actually teach which is: [3] Listen to teachers and leaders, and run it by your soul within. Accept that which is in harmony and reject that which is not.

There is some leadership and outside rules we do need to follow if we are to survive in this world.  Do you follow your leaders and pay your union dues as they insist? Do you follow what you are told in your job so you get your paycheck? I’ll bet you just don’t take a month off without telling anyone, even with the laxity of the educational system.

Do you follow your leaders and pay your taxes?

Do you slow down when the authority figure of a cop is following you or do you follow your inner self and go fast if you feel like it?

If the inner voice is not obvious common sense is the next best thing.

The ability to see beauty is the beginning of our moral sensibility. What we believe is beautiful we will not wantonly destroy. Reverend Sean Parker Dennison

The Open Door

Philadelphia: The Open Door

We move to the sixth stage which is called Philadelphia:

“And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;” Rev 3:7

The seeker just about gave up in Sardis, or maybe he did for a period of time, but, like the prodigal son, he roused himself and returned to the house of his father and once again enjoys communion.

Philadelphia comes from the Greek PHILADELPHOS which means “brotherly love” or “one who loves his brother.” This is a stage where the seeker rises above self-pity and learns to see the glass half full rather than half empty. He smells the roses, basks in the love of God and shares brotherhood and love with all who will receive.

After he weathers the dark night of the soul and finds himself still standing in the strength of the God Within he again hears the voice. It tells him that the inner Christ “is holy” and “true.” What’s the significance of this? It is very significant. Before this stage on the path the seeker doubted the voice from time to time. “Is it really the voice of God (holy) and can I depend upon it? (true)” is a phrase that came to him repeatedly in Sardis and almost paralyzed him.

Finally, when he communes in the true spirit of love, he senses from the core of his being that the voice is indeed good and holy, as well as true and dependable. As he reflects back he realizes that it has never let him down. He knows now that there have been times he substituted his own desire and lower self for the voice; but now that the communion is more consistent, he realizes the difference between the two and just how reliable the inner Christ is.

Next, from within, he hears the Master say that he has “the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth.”

What is the Key of David?

It is obvious when we realize that King David had the key to Jerusalem, the holy city of the Jews. He could open the door of the city to admittance or he could close it and refuse entry.

There is also a Key of David to the kingdom, or city of God within the soul. The Inner Christ can open the door and the pilgrim can bask in his presence and no person from the outside can interfere or stop the process. The door can also be shut on another person who is not yet ready for full communion. If he has to spend some more time in the dark night, no one can open the door until the needed lessons are learned. Sooner or later the seeker becomes ready and the inner Master turns on the light and dispels the night.

“I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.” Rev 3:8

The seeker who has entered through the gates of Philadelphia has learned the lessons of unselfish love and finds an open door set before him. In the past, it seemed more like a swinging door to which the entrance was somewhat random, but not this time. This time the door is so powerfully open that “no man can shut it.” At long last he can look within at will and consistently commune with the inner God and receive answers and guidance.

The reasons he is able to do this are three:

(1) He has “a little strength.” Strength comes from the Greek word DUNAMIS, which more literally means “inherent power.”

The seeker may think he is powerful from time to time and may receive significant praise from his associates, but the inner voice puts him in his place. He has some power, but just a “little” in comparison to a Master or what he will possess as he progresses further. Fortunately, at this point, he is not misusing his power and it is assisting him in standing and focusing in the light and love of God.

(2) He has “kept my word.”

His right use of power was to listen to the inner voice and take it seriously. He listens and follows that which he receives to the best of his ability.

(3) He has “not denied my name.”

A name signifies a purpose. When the seeker obtains an open door to the inner world he discovers a great purpose of which he is to be a part. To detour from that purpose is to deny the name of the God Within. After his dark night the seeker has learned to stay on course and thus honors the name or purpose of God.

The Great Temptation

“Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.” Rev 3:9

We discussed earlier about those who say they are Jews, apostles, etc., but are not.

An interesting new statement is made, however. These people who are of the “synagogue of Satan” shall worship at the feet of the pilgrim who passes through Philadelphia. How could this be when these are the same people who persecuted the saints and lead the people astray?

The answer is quite simple. When the seeker in Philadelphia is alive the false teachers will indeed persecute him and fight against him with all their power. However, when his work is done he will die and then be reborn in a future age along with many of the false teachers who were his enemies. In this future life the work in which the seeker participated has become recognized as a great work and he and his co-workers as wonderful servants of humanity.

Now here is where it gets interesting. Those who previously were enemies of the work now embrace it and start leading the parade, extolling its virtues and give praise, to the point of worship, toward the founding leaders.

For example, many of those who persecuted Jesus and early Christians are now incarnated as Christians themselves in this age and idolize the early saints. Some even pray to them.

Many who fought against the Founding Fathers of the United States and supported King George are born again and cannot say enough good things about the Constitution and Thomas Jefferson and the gang.

Many who despised Abraham Lincoln and others who struggled to free the slaves are now attempting to lead the parade in bringing more rights to African Americans.

In the new cycle the false teachers wind up worshipping at the feet of those from Philadelphia that they persecuted in the past.

Does this mean they have reformed and are now the good guys? Not necessarily. Some of them do make some progress, but most of them are still caught in the false authority trap and are drawn to the now established work to become adored leaders themselves. When a new work that brings additional positive change is created that shakes their belief system they will feel threatened and repeat the cycle until their lesson is learned.

This makes for an embarrassing life review after death for these folks when they see that they worshipped at the feet of ones they hated so much in the past and probably would hate in the present. When the feelings from both lives unite in them after death it brings a painful realization. Most hope within themselves they will not repeat such a mistake, but they usually do. As human beings most of us have to learn the hard way, but sooner or later the lesson is absorbed.

“Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.” Rev 3:10

Because the seeker has endured with patience, done all in his power to follow the inner voice and keep his mind focused in the light he receives a reward. He will be kept “from the hour of temptation.”

Why will he be kept from this great temptation? The simple answer is that the channel of communication is now an open door and so clear that the inner voice will successfully guide him in the right direction. All he has to do is listen, register and follow.

The next question to ask is, what is this temptation that is so great that it is to “come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.”

Some students think it will come in the form of a great antichrist worse than Hitler, but those who look to the future where only a small portion of humanity will be tested are looking the wrong direction. This temptation is always with us and it comes upon the world again and again to test us.

This temptation comes to us in forms that are very deceptive to all except those who have solidified communion with the inner voice.

Every great work undergoes tremendous corruption within several generations after the founders leave. That which was pure and good often becomes corrupt and run by power hungry individuals. When seekers are reborn and encounter the systems that they helped to create, they are tempted to merge with them and obey the false teachers who are now in control. Almost all will yield to the temptation to accept false authority. The exception are those who have established inner communion, as has the seeker in Philadelphia, Only the inner voice saves him from this captivity.

Here’s how the situation plays out. The seeker helps establish a great work, such as Christianity. Much of his work becomes corrupt. He is reborn and attracted again to the work that seems familiar to him. He is told by the leaders that he must follow or be damned, but that which he is told to follow does not seem right. He checks with the inner voice and the truth is confirmed. He then leaves the corrupt organization and seeks again to promote a work which will truly serve humanity. He is therefore saved from the hour of temptation that comes upon all.

The real power behind whatever success I have now was something I found within myself – something that’s in all of us, I think, a little piece of God just waiting to be discovered. Tina Turner

The Outer Garment

The Outer Garment

“Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.” Rev 3:4

This Sardis period could be called “The Dark Night of the Soul.” Here the seeker must move forward even though he may be discouraged and feels he is at a far distance from true spiritual power. Many give up for a period of time and seek to be a “normal” person again. Not all, however, take a detour on the Path for there are “a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments.”

How does one defile his garments?

The garment represents the life of the seeker in the outer world. The inner world of the seeker cannot be defiled, for that is where God is and this cannot be disturbed. It can be ignored by the seeker, but not defiled. However, the actions of the seeker in the outer world may revert to serving self over the good of the whole, and thus stain his outer garments.

It is written that those who keep their garments pure “shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.”

How do you walk with God “in white?” White is all seven colors combined or synthesized into one. Those who walk with God in white in reality walk or work with the whole rather than focus on the individual self. In focussing on the “whole” they become “holy.”

“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.” Rev 3:5

White raiment is a symbol of the reward of a holy person or synthesizer. Not too often in life do we meet a person dressed all in bright white. If we do he will really stand out and cannot be ignored. Even so, the seeker who successfully treads the path of wholeness will stand out, not because others see an actual physical garment, but they will see his works and way of life. These will be as a synthetic white garment that projects the intent of purity.

The actions and work of the pure in heart are as the writing of a name that is also pure and the soul within sends a vibration to higher realms (the Father) that the seeker has passed the test in Sardis and is ready to move on.

“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” Rev 3:6

Again, the reminder to listen to the Spirit within. This is always a necessity if the seeker is to progress to the next stage.

The Ray of Sardis

At Stage Five, the seeker is governed by Ray Five, The Ray of Science or Concrete Knowledge.

Here the aspirant must use his concrete mind to “be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain.” He must remember and reflect upon the knowledge he has received and use that which is logical and reasonable to move ahead.

Global Warming

A reader quotes me as follows:

“The interesting thing is that global warming caused by human intervention may actually make a future ice age a little more palatable.”

Then he expresses doubt that humans are doing anything to warm the planet.

If you have read my posts the past year or so you know that I do not accept the premise of the global warming activists. I have given many quotes that show that most global warming is not caused by humans.

Now let me explain my statement above. I talk about global warming caused by humans, but there is also global warming caused by nature. The majority of the global temperature changes are caused by nature and not humans. Even so, humans releasing CO2 in the atmosphere does have some effect, even though it may be small, it has definitely been proven that CO2 is a greenhouse gas that does have a warming effect. My point in the quote was that perhaps we should be thankful for an extra little warming effect if we are facing a cyclic ice age.

Here’s an interesting quote from the book State of Fear, by Michael Crichton, Page 387,

“Next they’ll bring out a chart showing a football field. And they’ll say, Imagine the composition of the Earth’s atmosphere as a football field. Most of the atmosphere is nitrogen. So, starting from the goal line, nitrogen takes you all the way to the seventy-eight yard line. And most of what’s left is oxygen. Oxygen takes you to the ninety-nine yard line. Only one yard to go. But most of what remains is the inert gas argon. Argon brings you within three and a half inches of the goal line. That’s pretty much the thickness of the chalk stripe, folks. And how much of that remaining three inches is carbon dioxide? One inch. That’s how much CO2 we have in our atmosphere. One inch in a hundred yard football field. She paused dramatically, then continued, “Now, ladies and gentlemen of the jury,” she said, “you are told that carbon dioxide has increased in the last fifty years. Do you know how much it has increased, on our football field? It has increased by three-eighths of an inch–less than the thickness of a pencil.”

Nothing is impossible. Some things are just less likely than others. Jonathan Winters

Preparing for Discipleship

Preparing for Discipleship
Sardis: Paying Attention

The fifth letter is to the seeker in Sardis.

“And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.” Rev 3:1

The seven Spirits represent seven great creative entities representing the seven rays. They are said to be the seven spirits before the throne of God. (See Rev 4:5) The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, or the aspiring disciples in their various stages of progression.

There is another correspondence, however. The seven stars represent the lower natures of the seven groups and the seven spirits. These seven spirits are also called “lamps of fire,” and represent the higher natures, or higher selves of the various seekers. Visualize the faint light of a star and a blazing lamp of fire and we get an idea of the difference between the two.

Even so, a twinkle of light is still a light and a beginning of the igniting of a greater light that will later shine as a sun. Therefore, the Master does nourish the little lights, for a star is merely a blazing sun placed at far distance.

The inner Christ makes an interesting statement. He says he “hath” both the seven Spirits as well as the seven stars. He is saying that the dim light in the seeker is the same light that blazes in our higher natures, which is one with God. Both the high and the low are contained in the mind and heart of God.

Why does the master start this letter by telling the seeker this? It is because at this stage of the journey he is tired and sometimes feels that God has forsaken him. He begins to question whether the far away reward is worth all the effort and trouble. If he is diligent he hears the inner voice when he reaches this stage – “I have not forsaken you. I hold you close to me and call you my own, just as I do the archangels before my throne.”

The voice continues: “I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.”

The seeker has a living name that represents the Christ or God Within. This tells us that he has “the name of God in his forehead” and is attempting to do a living work that will assist the forces of light and love to manifest on the earth. Even though he intellectually knows he is following the right path, he fears that God has forsaken him, and begins to get discouraged. He has doubts about many things that previously enlivened him.

It’s been a while since he heard a clear communication from the inner voice. Perhaps God is discouraged with him and has cut him off, or maybe he just imagined the inner voice to begin with.

He searches within one more time in desperate need of instruction and finally hears the voice again telling him how to get back on track.

“Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.” Rev 3:2

He learns that one of the reasons that he lost some sensitivity to the inner voice is that the quality of his works has been low. This is what happens to the seeker when he becomes weary of the journey and loses faith. He then just goes through the motions of service. If his heart is not really in it the quality of his works will suffer.

The solution given by the revelation is to: “be watchful.”

This harmonizes with the advice of Socrates. He said “The unexamined life is not worth living.” One of the reasons the seeker feels dead to the spirit is he has been negligent in examining himself and watching, or paying attention to the inner voice. The truth is that the Inner Christ did not leave him. Instead, the seeker got lazy and drifted away from his Source.

The second word of advice was to “strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die.”

He has gained many good qualities and principles on his journey, but has not been watchful and taken his attention off them. Therefore, much of the good that he has gained so far is in danger of dying to him. He must take immediate steps to strengthen his hold on all the spiritual qualities he has gained. Above all, he must re-establish his focus on the Inner Christ.

The advice continues:

“Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.” Rev 3:3

The advice is concise. The seeker must ever remember “how” he has received and “hold fast.” How does he receive instructions from the inner voice? By watching or putting consistent attention on it. He must hold fast to this process or he could suffer a spiritual death. He is told to “repent.” In other words, return to his core principles, which have served him well.

If he does not restore his spiritual base the next time he receives an inner communication, it will not be to console him, but will be something alarming that he is ill prepared to receive.

Spiritual Death

Spiritual Death

“And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.” Rev 2:21

The seeker went overboard on patience and tolerance of all kinds of beliefs until the inner voice was heard explaining that some are so harmful that they need to be confronted and exposed. This does not mean he should make a pest of himself, but there are times that he must act with judgment.

The Christ within was patient as well with the seeker. It watched him be tolerant with all kinds of strange and opposing doctrines, and stirred not his soul to respond. The Master within waited until the seeker became aware that Jezebel and her students had plenty of time to reflect and move further into the light, but they did not. Something else besides waiting with patience was needed.

“Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.” Rev 2:22

Here the voice is teaching the seeker what will be the natural fate of Jezebel and her followers according to the law of cause and effect.

Those who commit adultery are those who are unfaithful to the inner voice and have spiritual intercourse with outer voices, which are substitutes for the real God, or husband of the true self. These outer voices always lead to pain and great tribulation until the pilgrim awakes, repents and follows the true voice.

“And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.” Rev. 2:23

“I will kill her children with death” is a curious phrase. We’ve heard of killing with the sword, starvation, illness etc, but what does it mean to kill with death? Isn’t everyone who dies killed with death?

Not exactly. Death, as it is generally understood, is not a weapon that will kill; but death, as the prophets understood it, is another matter.

The world sees death as an extinction of some kind, but after the death of the body the spirit lives on, so the entity itself is still alive. Literally, then, death is not extinction or annihilation, but a separation. Physical death is a separation of the spirit and body, but this is not the only death. There are numerous deaths as there are numerous separations. The worst death that can happen to an aspiring disciple is to be separated from the inner Christ so contact becomes impossible.

This is the fate decreed for those who commit adultery against the God Within and focus on the outer voices. This outer focus separates them from the true God and they are killed with death, or die spiritually because of separation from the voice within.

“and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts…” Many fellow seekers (the churches) will be curious about Jezebel and her followers but in the end they will see that they are dead to the hearing of the inner voice and will find no peace or happiness, but great despair. They will be an example of what not to do.

“I will give unto every one of you according to your works.” This is a reiteration of the law of cause and effect. Those suffering from their own mistakes may see God as a vengeful being who is punishing them, but, instead, they are merely reaping what they have sown. The seeker is being taught the natural consequences of his spiritual actions.

“But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.” Rev 2:24

The Master speaks to the seeker and his associates on the Path “who have not known the depths of Satan.”

What are the depths of Satan? Satan represents that which is adversarial to light and truth. The depths of Satan would be points of belief and action, represented by Jezebel, that are far removed from the inner voice. These depths are so steeped in illusion and distant from the soul that the inner voice cannot be heard or recognized.

The Master here speaks to those “in Thyatira” who have not known the depths; this tells us there are seekers who have gotten caught up in them. We are not told what percentage take this detour, but I would guess that over half of them get sidetracked for a period of time, and a lesser percentage get trapped for lifetimes.

To those who are wise and do not get caught in the depths of Satan through Jezebel and her followers, he will put upon them “none other burden.” In other words, those who follow the inner voice and expose Jezebel will escape the burdens of correction to be suffered by those who get caught in the trap of illusion. These will gain no additional karma in this stage of their progress.

“But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.” Rev. 2:25

Sometimes the seeker is so eager to find new truth that he forgets the old ones that he has already acquired. He must regularly reflect on that which he already knows so it stays in his consciousness. If he does not appreciate the value of that which he has received then he is in danger of being cut off from receiving more and then getting excited about the false teachings of a Jezebel.

“And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:” Rev. 2:26

To receive power over the nations is a pretty huge reward to a big promise. Obviously the seeker will not have this power in his current life. To have power over the nations would imply he would come back in a future life when such power is a possibility.

We must ask what is implied in having power over the nations? To answer this we must realize that in John’s day the nations had power over the disciples, and to turn the tables would seem desirable indeed to that persecuted bunch. Today the persecution of spiritual people is more limited, but the nations still have power over them.

When the day comes that enlightened men and women achieve positions of power in the governments of the earth, and such governments are altered to guarantee maximum freedom to the individual, then the saints will have power over the nations. The seeker may not personally be a president or king, but those who see through the eyes of the soul, as he does, will have the reigns of control so the group of which he is a member will have the power of government.

“And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.” Rev. 2:27

The rod of iron merely represents pure truth. This is a far more powerful weapon than an iron weapon, and nothing can stand against it. All illusion is shattered like glass when exposed to it.

The governments of the earth today, as in John’s day, are often the last to see truth or reality as it is. Politicians are immersed in deceit and distortion. Then they pass laws to insure the illusion continues.

Eventually, the lights will gain power and take their rightful positions of power. Then they will speak eternal words of truth and teach correct principles of government. In that day pure truth spoken to the masses will be so powerful that the old ways will shatter and give way to the new.

“And I will give him the morning star.” Rev. 2:28

There are numerous interpretations that can be applied to the morning star, but we shall narrow it down to apply to the seeker at this stage of the path.

God said to Job:

“Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” Job 38:4-7

Morning stars are individuals who were with God when the foundations of the earth were laid. They participated in the morning of creation and assisted in the great creative process itself.

Venus is also called the morning star as it is the first star-like object visible at night and the last one to fade in the morning sunlight.

The seeker who is given the morning star will be given so much light and truth that he will stand out among many lesser lights as an ensign of truth. Later he will go on to higher spheres and participate in the creation of other earths and worlds as did the morning stars of the past, as noted by Job.

“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” Rev 2:29

We shouldn’t have to be reminded to listen to the great promise of our destiny but humans are prone to have spiritual amnesia; the inner voice has to constantly strive to refresh our memories concerning our spiritual duties.

The Ray of Thyatira

At Stage Four in Thyatira the seeker is dominated by Ray One, The Ray of Will-Power-Purpose. This is a governing influence.

The aspirant here is promised power to govern which is an aspect of Ray One. Let us repeat the verses:

“And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father. And I will give him the morning star.” Rev 2:26-28

A Hindrance to Greater Works

Thyatira: A Hindrance to Greater Works

“And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;” Rev 2:18

It is interesting that each of these letters is seen by most students as being addressed to the churches, but it is important to note that technically this is not true. They are addressed to “the angel” of the church rather than the church itself. The important point to glean here is that the word angel, or messenger, is singular, whereas a church refers to a whole body of people.

What is the significance of this?

Quite simply it is this. The instructions in each of these letters applies to a significant group of seekers attempting to stay upon the path, but in application the aspiring disciple must learn and apply them alone, as an individual entity. His interplay with the inner Christ must be between him and the Master, as if the instructions were intended only for him – yet there are the many (the church) who will go through this stage.

The inner voice gives three descriptions of himself at the beginning of these instructions:

(1) It is the Son of God who is speaking. The voice is telling the seeker that it is the true authority. It represents the only true Son of God who can be trusted. Any outer voice claiming to speak for God can fail and let you down, but not the inner one.

(2) His eyes are like a flame of fire. These are eyes that can see through the heaviest illusions, penetrate the innermost being and know the deepest thoughts and intents. The seeker can hide nothing from the Christ within. It is useless to put on a façade.

(3) His feet are like fine brass. This tells us that the inner Christ has power to subdue any resistance and will eventually dominate as a king by putting all elements of the lower self under his feet.

Notice that these three descriptions were repeated from the first part of the vision, but others left out. This is because these three apply in particular to this stage on the path. The common thread between them is authority. Until liberation is obtained the seeker must ever work on gaining a trust for the inner Christ. In this Thyatira stage he must do more than listen. He must apply that which he knows.

“I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.” Rev 2:19

The seeker does not need to remind God, his Son or the inner voice about his works and achievements. They are all seen and known. They are not only seen but also evaluated

The Master is telling the seeker of his achievements so far. He has done good works. He has developed charity, or the capacity to love on a spiritual level. He knows how to unselfishly serve. He has faith in the plan that God has for us, and the patience to endure to see that plan accomplished.

Then he is told something interesting. He is complemented a second time for his works. Why is this? He is merely told that he completed a cycle of training and gained important assets from it. Now he is involved in another cycle of works with even greater lessons to be learned.

“Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.” Rev 2:20

The seeker has learned and continues to learn some important lessons, but is making mistakes in the process. Interfering with his spiritual progress is a woman called Jezebel. This name was not picked by accident, but is the name of a destructive woman from the days of Elijah, the prophet.

She was a Phoenician princess who married King Ahab, an Israelite who was supposed to lead his people toward the true God. She turned Ahab away from Jehovah, and toward the worship of her god, Baal.

Ahab was so mesmerized by her that she seemed to get her way in all things. She influenced him to open temples dedicated to Baal in Israel and then to rule the people with tyranny. She went so far as to kill the prophets and sought the life of Elijah, but he escaped her wrath and placed a curse on her which was fulfilled in her death by the hands of her own people.

Jezebel was such an evil woman that her name has since been synonymous with corruption and licentiousness.

The interesting thing about the Jezebel of the Apocalypse is she calls herself a prophetess.

Now, a prophetess of old was seen as a righteous and good woman who speaks the word of God. This tells us that this Jezebel, who is in the life of the seeker, is corrupt and evil, but presents herself as good and favored of God.

The Master thus chastises the aspiring disciple because his vision is clouded and he allows her “to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.”

to eat things sacrificed unto idols.”

The Seduction

One may ask who would be the Jezebel in this age that the seeker could encounter: and what’s so bad about eating something that has been sacrificed to idols or false Gods?

In answer, let us examine the situation of the seeker at this stage. He has contacted the inner voice of Christ and tested it over a period of time. He has gained great trust in it, but his attention wanders now and then and is distracted by other voices. Even so, he has gained a vision of a part he may play in the plan and is determined to serve unselfishly with love and do what is necessary to get things done.

The bottom line is this: He is a sincere server and seeker, but not completely focused on the Inner Light. In this situation he meets the prophetess Jezebel. Who is this?

It is a person who seduces seekers “to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.” In other words, this false teacher catches the attention of many seekers and takes their focus off the true God Within (fornication) and causes them to digest spiritual teachings from a god without (eating things sacrificed unto idols.)

The Jezebel here does not usually belong to an orthodox religion, for the seeker at this stage has normally left orthodoxy and is working to bring greater light verified by the inner voice. This greater light is normally condemned by orthodoxy, but, in supporting teachings that run contrary to the standard model, the seeker will often find himself surrounded by some odd company.

Those who tread a path contrary to orthodoxy are not only aspiring disciples, but many others who rebel for ego’s sake. These rebels fall into the following categories:

(1) Many criminal elements who fight the system for personal gain.

(2) Those who rebel for rebellion’s sake. They may feel superior to orthodox followers, but they are just as bad as they follow the orthodox rebel’s predictable path.

(3) Wanna-be teachers who have not contacted (or ignore) the inner voice but are familiar with the concept and believe they are in contact with it as well as a channel for various supernatural beings.

It should be obvious that such a person has not established stable inner contact because he or she does not direct students toward the inner world, but the outer. She especially directs them to listen and obey her own voice, as it speaks for God in some outer form.

This is the true Jezebel the seeker will surely meet. The amazing thing about this prophetess is that she will claim to direct students to the God Within or at the least the true God. The terms, kingdom within, the inner God, God Within, true God and Christ consciousness may be often used by her. This is why this person is so seductive. She says many of the things the true teacher will say, but in the end will take students away from reliance on the voice within and use all force at her disposal to force belief in the outer voice.

If a seeker is around such a Jezebel and speaks something from the inner voice that disagrees with her, the truth will be revealed to the wise. Here are some things that may happen:

(1) Jezebel will always acknowledge in theory the right to go within but will declare the seeker wrong (often without any reason given). It will be understood that he must conform to her outer voice or be ostracized.

(2) Jezebel will use fear to control her students. While condemning punishments talked about by the churches she will come up with many of her own for this world and the next.

(3) She will speak with great authority in the name of a god-like entity that is not to be questioned. Many of the teachings will sound good (seductive), but in reality they will be a rehash of past teachings with no new principles.

The verse tells the seeker he has erred in “allowing” Jezebel to seduce his servants.

“Allow” is an interesting word to use here, for most seekers of today do not think we have any right to prevent anyone from teaching or believing whatever they wish. This is the same trap in which the seeker is caught and is now corrected by the inner voice.

Let us clarify. The seeker has recently broken off from many outer authorities, which sought to control him and imprison his mind. After loosing himself and tasting the air of freedom he is determined to not let it happen again, and above all, to not be an agent in controlling others as he was unjustly controlled. He thus swings to the other extreme of the pendulum and becomes extremely tolerant of all beliefs and teachings, and does not want to unduly influence anyone toward his own path.

For a period of time he lives and lets live. He finds numerous friends and students listening to many outer authorities that do not agree with his inner voice, but he tolerates this with the conclusion that they will eventually learn through trial and error. He also tolerates all the false teachers that influence them.

He continues this path of tolerance until he meets a teacher that pushes him over the line. This is his Jezebel, who promotes a doctrine so obviously wrong and harmful that the inner voice stirs and speaks “I have a few things against thee. Inaction that allows a wrong is as bad as action that causes one. You must act.”

What action must the seeker take? He will not use force, threats or illusionary fear as do the false teachers, but he will become a beacon of light and confront Jezebel and her students, and contrast the truth from within with the false doctrine from without. Only then can the little children (speaking symbolically) on the path have true freedom of choice and free themselves from Jezebel’s seduction.

The great example of confrontation by a being of light was Jesus when he confronted the false teachers in Jerusalem who were leading many on destructive paths. Another interesting example was Elijah when he challenged the false teachers to make fire come down from heaven, as they claimed to have power such as this. The false prophets failed to bring the fire while Elijah succeeded. The contrast presented by him moved the people over to the truth he taught.

Light and Soul

Light and Soul

Question: What is the difference between the ‘Light of the Soul/Spirit’ and ordinary ‘Light’ we experience in this physical universe?

All light has one thing in common. It reveals truth of some kind. That truth may be of a lower or higher level, but it reveals nonetheless.

A flashlight reveals the truth of nearby forms and their colors.

The light from the soul striking your mind reveals understanding of principles.

The direct light of Spirit reveals the Will of God and ideas in the mind of God.

The basic difference between light in the lower and higher words is its universality.

In this world, light originates in a certain spot and then reveals in a certain spot. This is true of a flashlight or a sun. The sun emits light from a single center and only reveals on several little points (like earth) in this solar system. 99.9999% of its light goes into space beyond our system revealing almost nothing.

As we move to the higher worlds the light becomes more pervasive along with the revelations available. The light increases until we get to pure spirit. In this pure spirit is universal light. There is not form there (as we understand form) on which the light can shine, but from Spirit comes the creation of form through ideas. Ideas manifest in Spirit just as forms manifest here and the light of Spirit shines completely on creative ideas revealing all there is to know about them.

As the ideas from Spirit filter down to the physical plane they are clothed in darkness and shadows and this causes great difficulty in manifesting enough light to see all the principles involved in the idea. Eventually, the light does penetrate the lower worlds and they are pulled back into Spirit, and during the great pralaya that follows, the light becomes one.

Question: What’s involved in going beyond the material to the spiritual in consciousness?

We master the material, not by giving it up in the sense of throwing it away, but by giving up our attachments to flesh, desire and form. The disciple must do this to realize that he is not his body or feelings.

Similarly, we give up matter by focusing our attention on the Spirit. This does not mean we do not use matter while we are here, but it does mean that we master it and detach ourselves from its pull and yield to the pull of the spirit instead.

Question: Is the flesh a physical manifestation of spirit energy?

Matter is created out of Spirit vibrating to a more condensed and intertwined wavelength. To unravel its complexity, we must focus attention on Spirit.

Question: If so, does spirit energy manifest matter and soul energy animate matter?

JJ Yes, and yes.

A reader was asking advice on what to do about feelings of inadequacy or feeling not needed.

There are times in the life of the pilgrim that he feels that he is not needed, that his efforts do not count or that he is not good enough. Fortunately, the soul will not let us keep those attitudes forever and keeps dangling that carrot of the higher vision before our minds. It is not long before the seeker diverts attention away from the needs of the self and continues on the journey, and joyfully so. Eventually, it matters not who is or is not paying attention or gives recognition. Approval of the inner self is all that matters.

A reader has noted that I have used the term “inner teachers” now and then. He wants me to elaborate on who they are.

I can see that one may envision a disciple having a group of little entities in his breast seeking for an opportunity to speak out. Of course, that is not the reality. The truth is that the inner voice comes through the soul from within and an inner teacher is any being or intelligence that uses your soul to reach your waking consciousness.

The inner teachers include:

[1] Your Solar Angel which is a master on its own plane.

[2] A Master, or high disembodied spirit, which speaks to you through your soul.

[3] An earthly teacher who sends principles to your soul which your soul then reflects back to your consciousness.

[4] Your own reflective thoughts bouncing off your point of soul contact revealing the understanding of principles.

In all these cases the truth comes to you from within even if it was stimulated from without. The disciple will note the different vibrations wherein the communications originated and because they are all verified from within he will refer to these various sources as his “inner teachers.”

A reader makes this comment: “Sometimes, I have noticed, that when you can perceive truth and you are with someone in a relationship who lies a lot to protect themselves, it does not make for a happier relationship.”

Yes, it is true that people lying to you does not make you happy, but neither does this discount what I said.

If you have an association with someone who lies to you and you cannot perceive it then your peace can be disturbed for a long period of time. On the other hand, if you can perceive the lies then you can do something about it. You can confront the person and tell him that if he continues to lie then you are leaving the relationship. If the lying interferes with your peace, then leave the source of the problem and the problem no longer exists. Once you distance yourself emotionally from a negative person then they have no power to hurt you.

The reader continues: “Sometimes seeing the truth so plainly in others and their motives, does not make for a happier life.”

But neither should it make you unhappy. Why would you give another person the power to control your state of mind?

I had some pretty tough jobs when I was younger and worked in construction. I remember I had one foreman who yelled at me so much that he about lost his voice. He picked on me about ten times as much as anyone else. Some co-workers wondered how I handled it, but I needed the job so I just tuned him out and worked as if he did not exist. I think this made him yell all the more at me, but because I tuned him out it did not matter.

Most of my life I have worked for myself so I have no boss and don’t have to tune anyone out except for the odd customer that gives us a bad time. No matter what you do there will always be some awkward people to deal with. The point is to not let them control your mind, hence your happiness. Stay in control of your heart, mind and emotions. Do not give your power away.

The thing is my perception of what makes me happiest at work caused me to work for myself.

Remember the Lion Principle. We can’t let ourselves be upset because the lion will eat you if it gets a chance. Instead, control your situation and distance so the lion cannot hurt you.

I never did give them hell. I just told the truth, and they thought it was hell. Harry S Truman (1884 – 1972), in Look, Apr. 3, 1956
