The Mystery of Illusion

The Mystery of Illusion

Many students of the Ancient Wisdom show particular interest in the initiations as taught by Madame Blavatsky and Alice A. Bailey.  There are seven initiations possible on this planet but only a small handful have gone beyond the first two, and a much smaller handful have gone beyond the fifth, where one becomes a Master of Wisdom and progresses from the human kingdom to enter the ranks of the Spiritual Hierarchy.

The initiations are milestones of achievement or mastery on the path of liberation from all limitations.

The first initiation, symbolized by the birth of the Christ in the heart, represents reasonable mastery of the physical appetites and passion. The second, symbolized by the baptism of Christ, represents reasonable mastery over the emotional nature and the glamour aspects of the ego.  The third, symbolized by the transfiguration of the Christ, represents reasonable mastery of illusion, freedom from glamor and a secure connection with the Higher Self and the One with who we live and love and have our being.

I use the word “reasonable” here because the effects of passion, the ego and illusion remain a part of that ocean of existence in which we live no matter how advanced disciples are.  This particularly applies to illusion, the most difficult of the obstacles to completely overcome, but at the third initiation the disciple obtains a clarity of vision that allows him discern true reality from the false and perceive the real world of meaning.

The three worlds of form, the physical, the astral-emotional and the mental are all created out of illusionary principles and all living within them, even the Masters, are subject to some type of illusion, but the first major step out of illusion occurs at the third initiation. At this time the disciple makes a higher spiritual connection that allows him to throw light on what is perceived in the material world. He is thus enabled to see the truth behind various teachings, philosophies, events and ideas to the extent that the spirit within will affirm he is going the right direction. In addition to this he or she is committed to that direction. Concerning this achievement DK speaks of “the third initiation, at which time all glamour and illusion is dissipated and “the light which shines through the eye of the Bull (third eye) will be unimpeded” and carry light into the darkness. Esoteric Astrology, Pages 383-384

Even though the first two initiations are important milestones the third is particularly significant to the extent it is called the first major initiation. Concerning this DK says this:

“I would here remind you that the third initiation is regarded by the Hierarchy as the first major initiation, and that the first and second initiations are initiations of the Threshold. For the bulk of humanity, these first two initiations will for a very long time constitute major initiatory experiences, but in the life and realisation of the initiate-soul, they are not. After the two initiations of the threshold have been undergone the attitude of the initiate changes and he sees possibilities and factors and revelations which have hitherto been totally unrealised and unknown, even to his consciousness at his highest moments”. Rays and Initiations, Pages 41-42

“The third initiation is, in reality, the first initiation of the soul, after complete identification with the personality within the life and consciousness of the Monad, the One and the First.” Destiny of the Nations Page 141

There are two main reasons that the third initiation is called “the first major initiation from the hierarchical angle.”  The first as noted in the above quote is that “glamour and illusion is dissipated.”

Most glamor is subdued after passing the second and mastered by the third. Correspondingly, most illusion from this world is under control by the third with some higher illusion yet to be subdued: “After that (the third initiation), he may suffer from illusion, but there is then no fear of his permanently turning back and reaching the left-hand path.” Rays and Initiations, Page 156

The second reason it is the first major one is it invokes the highest spiritual centre on our planet, Shamballa” and “now starts off upon the way of the higher unfoldment, of which the first step is contact with Shamballa, involving the fusion of his self-will and his spiritual will with the Will of God.” Rays and Initiations, Page 81

After the third then he establishes a link with his monad and his lower will is in alignment with higher will.

Until these two things take place the seeker “is still regarded as a potential hazard and as unstable.” Rays and Initiations, Page 156

It is easily understandable why the merging of the lower and higher will would produce stability and trust from the hierarchy, but it is not so clear why the disciple must go beyond the mastering of maya and glamor before he is trusted by the higher lives. Why is the mastering of illusion so important?

The Importance of Mastering Illusion

Have you ever met a person who seems intelligent, sincere, has good self-control and seems to be a decent person in every way but then as you get to know him or her you discover that he has some really oddball beliefs that are obviously false and contrary to normal reasoning?  Maybe he believes in a flat earth or a crazy guru but other beliefs seem logical.

As you get to know people more intimately you will discover that this characteristic is much more common than realized. A large number of sincere, but intelligent people have some really odd and illogical beliefs. Some of them are harmless, but then others are not. If your friend believes some crazy guru is the messiah who may want him to drink poison Kool-Aid to reach heaven then such an illusion can turn out to be not so harmless, but even deadly.

Do you think that all the Nazis who embraced their jobs at death camps did so because they were naturally evil and had a destructive nature?

No. The average Nazi was no more evil in nature than the average guy in your neighborhood.  The difference was that his mind embraced an illusion to which your neighbors have not been subject. If a Germain Nazi saw a neighbor in trouble he probably was as willing to help as your neighbors are today

The problem with Nazi Germany was not that the people were bad people, but that many had embraced an illusion that controlled them.

It is interesting that many today feel superior to those with destructive illusionary beliefs of the past, such as the Nazis, slave holders and religious zealots who burned heretics at the stake, but if you can buy into any illusion today, even a harmless one, you could also be subject to a crazy one in the right circumstances.

The Milgram experiment illustrates perhaps the greatest flaw in our human nature as far as illusion is concerned. Most of us are willing to conform to authority if that authority project5s the illusion of being right and accepted. Milgram’s experiment illustrates how it is that often we see that 100% of the Republicans vote with their side and 100% of the Democrats vote with their side even though one choice is always better for the country than the other.

Back in the Sixties Milgram was curious about how a group of apparently normal people like the Germans could have participated in the Nazi atrocities, which was against every moral teaching that they ever believed in. Their excuse was always the same: “I was just following orders.”

To get the answer he created an experiment where so-called “teachers” (who were actually the unknowing subjects of the experiment) were recruited by Milgram. They were asked to administer an electric shock of increasing intensity to a “learner” for each mistake he made during the experiment. The fictitious story given to these “teachers” was that the experiment was exploring effects of punishment (for incorrect responses) on learning behavior. The “teacher” was not aware that the “learner” in the study was actually an actor – – merely indicating discomfort as the “teacher” increased the electric shocks.

When the “teacher” asked whether increased shocks should be given he/she was verbally encouraged to continue. Sixty-five percent of the “teachers” obeyed orders to punish the learner to the very end of the 450-volt scale! No subject stopped before reaching 300 volts!

At times, the worried “teachers” questioned the experimenter, asking who was responsible for any harmful effects resulting from shocking the learner at such a high level. Upon receiving the answer that the experimenter assumed full responsibility, teachers seemed to accept the response and continue shocking, even though some were obviously extremely uncomfortable in doing so.

What was interesting about watching this was that when the subject hit the high voltage the pretended victim screamed like crazy and even said he had a bad heart and that the experiment was killing him.

The subject then turned to the authority as if asking what to do and the authority told him to continue. If the subject seemed to doubt the authority told him that he would take responsibility.

Then the subject continued to shock the supposed victim past 300 volts until he went silent. This indicated the victim was either unconscious or dead. Still the subject did not cease. He continued to increase the voltage clear up to 450 which would mean that if the victim was not dead yet this would surely kill him.

The interesting thing is that if this were a real happening, the subject would not only have killed another human being which was against every teaching that he believed in, but he would have also been brought up on murder charges. It is scary that even that possibility did not deter the subject from following authority.

The funny thing about these experiments is that the scientists predicted that only one out of a thousand would follow an authority to shock up to 450 volts, but 65% went that far and 100% of the subjects went up to 300 volts, which is still enough to kill.

Why was it that these subjects committed an act that any impartial observer would see as virtual insanity?

They were under the strong illusion of authority – an authority that would seemingly absolve them of any responsibility.

But the idea that we can transfer the responsibility of our actions to another is based on an illusion – an illusion that an alarming number will accept.

Milgram illustrated an illusion that can easily capture the human mind, but there are many more – and many of them run contrary to the prevailing authorities.  The flat earth is a prime example. This runs strongly against current scientific authority yet polls show that about 12% of the public in the United States accept it and another 10% are not sure.  Those who embrace it often use a literal interpretation of the Bible or an intriguing explanation presented on the internet. They have allowed the idea to take a foothold in their mind and become trapped in an illusion from which escape is difficult.

The problem with moving to the third initiation is that the illusions facing the disciple are not obvious. When we look with hindsight the illusions with the Milgram experiment, the Nazis and the slaveholders etc. are obvious. They are obvious to us but not to those who lived in the middle of the illusion. Similarly, we live in the midst of many illusions and the ones embraced by the average seeker do not seem obvious at all.

The disciple must learn “to substitute the pure reason for the many complexities of the lower mind. He has to wrestle with the problem of this simplicity, with its penetrating potency, and with its swift comprehension of the basic truth underlying the many truths; he learns, finally, to substitute the intuition—with its swiftness and its infallibility—for the slow and laborious work of the mind, with its deviousness, its illusions, its errors, its dogmatisms and its separative thinking and cultures.” Discipleship in the New Age, Vol 2, Page 415

The Dangers of Illusion

The average person is subject to many illusions. Fortunately, most of them do not pose any imminent danger. For instance, many are under the illusion that they are more intelligent, more objective, more reasonable, better looking or more talented than they really are. Such illusions may cause some distraction and poor judgment but are generally not seen as dangerous.

But here is the problem.  If a person can be captivated by a small harmless illusion then this indicates that he could also wind up embracing illusions that are much bigger and indeed harmful.

If you can be fooled in small things then the chances are that you can be fooled in big things. It is thus important, especially for disciples aspiring to tread the Path, to dispel all illusions small and great.

At the third initiation the disciple accomplishes two things. He dispels illusion that distract from the Path and secures contact with his Higher Self.  These are two essential accomplishments that must be made before he or she can be trusted by the Spiritual Hierarchy.

First and second degree initiates are generally sincere and honorable people seeking the Spiritual Path, but all that sincerity can turn dangerous if their minds are captivated by a dangerous illusion.

Many of the most destructive people in our history were sincere in thinking they were doing the right thing but had minds enslaved by illusions that led them in a terrible direction.

For instance, Hitler really believed that the Jews were the source of many of the world’s problems and the world would be much better off if they were all disposed of. In this case, sincerely greatly amplified the problem of the illusion rather than diminishing it.

Marshall Applewhite was the leader of the Heaven’s Gate movement and was very sincere in guiding his group toward immortality. Then when the comet Hale–Bopp appeared in 1997 he took it as a sign that their transformation to a higher form of existence was at hand. He believed that a spaceship was accompanying the comet that they could only access through death. So, when the comet made its closest approach he and 38 other true believers killed themselves in order to ascend.

The fact that none of the 38 backed out or saw through the illusion demonstrates the powerful hold an illusion can have on a group.

To an outsider it seems completely obvious that Applewhite was in illusion approaching insanity, but to the inner group there was no filtering out that which was not reasonable and to them all seemed to be a part of a wonderful plan.

Then we had an even greater demonstration of the power of a negative illusion in 1978 when Jim Jones of the People’s Temple order his group of 900 souls to drink poisoned Kool-Aid.

Most people think they are beyond being captured by such a negative illusion, but remember that those participating in the Milgram Experiment were just average folks placed in an unusual circumstance, and all of them were willing to shock the victims with a very dangerous 300 volts, and the majority were willing to kill the victims with 450 volts.

This tells us that the average guy who we see as harmless may not be harmless at all if placed in the right circumstance and subjected to a destructive illusion.

Consistent soul contact is the solution to dispelling illusion, but sporadic contact where the ideas are filtered through the personality self can actually increase illusion. DK says this:

“The world of phenomena is not denied, but we regard the mind as misinterpreting it and as refusing to see it as it is in reality. We consider this misinterpretation as constituting the Great Illusion… The Problem of Illusion lies in the fact that it is a soul activity, and the result of the mind aspect of all the souls in manifestation. It is the soul which is submerged in the illusion and the soul that fails to see with clarity until such time as it has learnt to pour the light of the soul through into the mind and the brain.” Glamour, A World Problem, Page 21

Soul contact actually brings down ideas from the higher planes but if those ideas are distorted by the lower emotions and the mind then their implementation can be more destructive than constrictive. To counteract this problem the disciple must learn “to pour the light of the soul through into the mind and the brain.”

In that same book he says that “Illusion, for our purposes, can be understood to signify the reaction of the undisciplined mind to the newly contacted world of ideas.” Page 54

That which is received from higher contact must be interpreted with a disciplined mind or that which was not illusion will be presented as illusion and distorted from the original idea received.

This problem “tends to preoccupy him and to lead him into danger and error.  It retards his progress on the way and sidetracks his energies and attention.” Esoteric Psychology, Vol 2, Page 473

The ideal of communism is a good example of how this plays out. The idea of universal sharing and equality is good and the slogan “From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs,” seems in harmony with divine principles.  But the problem of communism stems not from the idea itself, but from a distorted interpretation of it along with a destructive path that destroys free will. Communist leaders such as Stalin, Pol Pot, Kim Jung Un and others decree its truth and anyone who has a different opinion is either imprisoned or murdered.

This we have an idea which could take humankind toward an improved life being distorted into something seen as a great evil by many.

This distortion of divine ideas is a problem had by many as they approach the third initiation. Instead of seeing correctly and crossing the threshold they allow the lower mind and emotions to distort divine ideas and set them back for lifetimes where they have to first learn some painful lessons.

And concerning the pain along the journey to liberation DK said this:

“Pain is that upward struggle through matter which lands a man at the Feet of the Logos; pain is the following of the line of the greatest resistance and thereby reaching the summit of the mountain; pain is the smashing of the form and the reaching of the inner fire; pain is the cold of isolation which leads to the warmth of the central sun; pain is the burning in the furnace in order finally to know the coolness of the water of life; pain is the journeying into the far country, resulting in the welcome to the Father’s Home; pain is the illusion of the Father’s disowning, which drives the prodigal straight to the Father’s heart; pain is the cross of utter loss, that renders back the riches of the eternal bounty; pain is the whip that drives the struggling builder to carry to utter perfection the building of the Temple.” A Treatise on White Magic, Pg 533

If the disciple can see through the illusion much pain can be avoided, but if not, sometimes the only way the soul can get his attention and make corrections is through painful experience.

Illusion and the New Age

Let us now examine in more depth that which DK teaches about illusion. He distinguishes it from glamor and maya. These two aspects will intensify illusion but are different obstacles to overcome.  One may be basically free of these two things but be subject to illusion which is a trick of the mind. DK says this:

“The story of illusion is one which must not be confounded with glamour; illusion is related to the whole process of revelation. Glamour can be and often is related to the distortion of that which has been revealed, but it must be borne in mind that illusion is primarily concerned with the reaction of the mind to the unfolding revelation, as the soul registers it and seeks to impress it on the highest aspect of the personal lower self. Illusion is, therefore, the failure of the mind correctly to register, to interpret or translate that which has been transmitted and it is consequently a sin (if you care for that word) of the intelligent and highly developed people, of those who stand on the Path and who are in process of becoming rightly oriented; it is also a sin of accepted disciples as they seek to expand their consciousness in response to soul contact. When they have “seen through illusion” (and I use this phrase in its esoteric sense) then they are ready for the third initiation.”   Glamour, A World Problem, Pages 172-173

When DK speaks of illusion, he is referring to something more specific than the general meaning in English which is merely “a belief in something that is not true.” The average person believes all kinds of things that are not true, but illusion as it pertains to the disciple is concerned with things that are not true which distract us from the path as stated in the Gayatri:

“Unveil to us the face of the true spiritual Sun, hidden by a disk of golden light, that we may know the truth and do our whole duty, as we journey to Thy sacred Feet.”

There are two sources of illusion that take the advanced seeker off the path. Let me first repeat from the above quote:

“illusion is primarily concerned with the reaction of the mind to the unfolding revelation, as the soul registers it and seeks to impress it on the highest aspect of the personal lower self. Illusion is, therefore, the failure of the mind correctly to register, to interpret or translate that which has been transmitted.”

The average person is not subject to this type of illusion because he is not receiving “unfolding revelation.”

The advanced seeker does achieve some soul contact, receives revelation, but until he learns to keep his mind steady in the light he fails to correctly “interpret or translate that which has been transmitted.”

The second source of illusion that is discussed originates from thoughtforms that circulate in the consciousness of the human kingdom. Concerning them he says this:

“Illusion is the succumbing to the powerful thoughtforms which the thinkers of the time and of the immediately preceding age have formulated, and which at the time of their creation constituted the hope of the race. They embodied then the new and emerging ideas by means of which the race was intended to progress. These forms, when old and crystallised, become a menace and a hindrance to the expanding life.” Glamour, A World Problem, Page 112

There are two types of thoughtforms which cause illusion. The first are ideas or teachings related to the “preceding age.” That would be the Age of Pisces. These are teachings that are either distorted or outlived their usefulness and have “become a menace and a hindrance to the expanding life.”

Sacrifice was the keynote of the passing age and sacrificing all for a future reward in heaven moved the work forward in the past, but the idea is a hinderance in this age.

Why?

Because the age of Aquarius is not to be the time of scarcity, but “Aquarius is the water-carrier, bringing the water of life to the people — life more abundantly.” Destiny of the Nations, Page 150

Here DK was referring to the fulfillment of the words of Jesus where he said:

“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

The second thoughtform which has outlived its usefulness is connected with the quality of idealism and perfection associated with Pisces.

Christ was associated with the perfect man, far beyond what we may become making us completely dependent on him to save us. Today the emphasis needs to be on “the fact of the spiritual Hierarchy, upon the office and the work of the Christ and upon the techniques of meditation whereby soul-awareness (or the Christ-consciousness) can be achieved. Prayer has been expanded into meditation; desire has been lifted into mental aspiration. This is supplanted by a sense of unity and by the recognition of God immanent. This leads eventually to at-one-ment with God transcendent.” Problems of Humanity, Pages 156-157

“Today, as an outcome of this unfolding divine Presence, there is entering into the minds of men everywhere a new concept: that of Christ in us, the hope of Glory. There is a growing and developing belief that Christ is in us, as He was in the Master Jesus, and this belief will alter world affairs and mankind’s entire attitude to life.” Externalization of the Hierarchy, Page 592

Thoughtforms of the past are not the only problem for there are many newer thoughtforms created around the of Aquarius that lead to illusion.

We previously mentioned the Heaven’s Gate group who thought they had yield up their lives to enter into the heavenly spheres, but perhaps the most dominate illusion in which many aspirants are caught involves the idea that they need do nothing but wait for the Christ, the Hierarchy, space beings, angels – anyone other than themselves to do the hard work in bringing the new age. DK has made it clear that the responsibility for manifesting a beneficial new are lies with humanity itself. We have to do our part to manifest abundance or it will not happen. DK’s advice during World War II applies today:

“Blame yourselves, therefore, for what is today transpiring and seek not to evade responsibility by placing it upon the shoulders of spectacular men or any statesmen, dictator or upon any group. Look not to one person or to one group of persons and accuse them of causing the present world condition. Look not also to any one person or group to bring liberation or to find a solution of the world problem. That is for humanity itself to do. Humanity must take action and will do so, when the right time comes.” Externalization of the Hierarchy, Page 135

One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men. No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man. – Elbert Hubbard

Illusion in Our Sources

It may be helpful to examine some actual examples of illusion that distract seekers from finding the truth. Illusion becomes a huge factor as the pilgrim seeks to find sources of truth.

It is a commonly accepted truth among spiritual seekers that the greatest source of truth is within, yet the within factor only takes us so far and generally most seekers have to look without to find the truth they desire. Wise seekers eventually come to realize they must search without, but verify within, as not much pure revelation come purely from within.

The seeker comes across avalanches of illusion as he seeks from without, and for the beginner the universal mistake that is made is a lack of verification. The factor of common sense would rule out much illusion, but this is often not put to use. After one has done everything possible to verify truth, the final factor has to be verification from within, but even this is not always reliable.

As the seeker looks within, he finds the lower concrete mind will give answers, but they are often incorrect. Then he also finds the desire nature which distorts he truth and will usually give the answer he wants rather than the truth. To get real verification the seeker must reach the soul, but the problem is that he does not know how that feels until he makes that contact. Until that occurs, he will assume the highest of his desire nature represents the soul and can verify truth.

Spiritual students seek the truth, but each has different resources available and many of them are distracted by illusion. To discover their illusion we must examine their source.

For millions it is the Bible. The problem is that there are thousands of Christian sects and each has a different interpretation.  They cannot even agree on what a day is in Genesis.  Is it a 24-hour period or a cycle of time?

For the alternative spiritual students, the main source usually consists of channeled materials. DK divides channeling into two categories, conscious and unconscious. He tells us  that the masters, except on rare occasions, only use disciples who receive in the conscious  state and says this about the ones who use the unconscious trance state:

“Some transmitters work entirely on astral levels and their work is necessarily part of the great illusion.  They are unconscious mediums and are unable to check the source from whence the teachings come; if they claim to know that source, they are frequently in error.  Some receive teaching from discarnate entities of no higher evolution, and frequently of lower, than themselves.  Some are simply abstracting the content of their own subconsciousnesses.” A Treatise on White Magic, Pg 175

Examples of unconscious channelers are Edgar Cayce, Mark & Elizabeth Clare Prophet, J. Z. Knight, The Law of One Books, Seth Speaks by Jane Roberts, the Urantia book and many lesser examples currently circulating on the internet.

The other method is conscious reception through mental telepathy from the Source. This is the preferred method used by advanced beings and this was used by Djwahl Khul to transmit his many writings to Alice A. Bailey.  Others who have used this method are H. P. Blavatsky, Helen Schucman who received A Course in Miracles, Rudolf Steiner, Emanuel Swedenborg and Joseph Smith.

What complicates things is that even conscious channelers are not always right for they could be picking up material from a distorted thoughtform, a deceptive entity or from their own imagination.

Then there is a third group of mediums who allow another entity to take possession but retain some memory of what has transpired. I would classify their accuracy in the same category as the unconscious channelers.

Overall, the conscious channeler is more reliable but none are infallible and may be the source of illusion to the seeker. All upon the path must learn to access the intuition and attain the soul contact necessary to attain correct perception:

“When the intuition functions in any human being, he is enabled to take direct and correct action for he is in touch with the Plan, with pure and unadulterated fact and undistorted ideas—free from illusion and coming direct from the divine or universal Mind.” Discipleship in the New Age, Vol 1, Page 25

What complicates illusion for the advanced students is that they strive with more energy and “the glamour and the illusion which a disciple can evoke is far more potent than that of the average person… when a man becomes a disciple, he contacts so much force (especially in the early stages when he does not know how to handle it) that he attracts, consolidates and precipitates upon himself far more of the world illusion than would otherwise be the case.” Discipleship in the New Age, Vol 1, Page 509-511

This explains why many students and teachers we encounter seem to be intelligent yet have beliefs that most 12-year-olds can see is wrong. When an advanced person has an illusion he tends to embrace it with more energy than the average person.

Hitler was a great example. The illusion that the Jewish race needed to be eliminated, even if by gassing them all to death, seems absolutely insane, but it didn’t seem that way to those who participated in the illusion – and  we might add that these people were no dummies, just intelligent people who were misled.

It is a very deceptive thing that when one is trapped by an illusion that no illusion is perceived. It’s like having cancer, but not being aware of it. However, the problem does not go away and sooner or later the pilgrim must face the truth.

O judgement, thou art fled to brutish beasts, And men have lost their reason! – Shakespeare

Idealism and Illusion

Idealism is another quality which draws many into illusion. Its potency is particularly powerful at the present as it represented one of the key aspects of the Piscean age which is passing. When entering a new age, the masses are reluctant to accept the new energies and tend to cling to the old. We are entering Aquarius, which is related to air, mind, reason and service and leaving Pisces which is related to water, emotion, the ideal and sacrifice.

Think of the passing sign as an entity fighting for its life and that’ll give you an idea as to why we see such struggles in the world where many are fighting for their ideal picture of life as they see it. Often it comes down to one ideal fighting against another ideal.

At the beginning of an age enlightened teachings are given out by avatars of the age, but then after a time, corruption sets in and that which was good becomes that which is the  enemy of the aspects of the next age. We thus had sixth ray idealism as something that beneficially launched the Age of Pisces, but now we are entering Aquarius it has become a drag on the approaching changes. DK speaks of this:

“I would here remind you that few idealists are personally in touch with the idea which has given birth to the idealism. They are only in touch with the human interpretation of the idea, as formulated by some disciple or intuitive—a very different thing.

“An illusion can, therefore, be defined as the consequence of an idea (translated into ideal) being regarded as the entire presentation, as the complete story or solution and as being separated from and visioned independently of all other ideasWhen visioned and grasped in a narrow and separative manner, there is necessarily a distortion of the truth, and the disciple or aspirant inevitably pledges himself to a partial aspect of reality or of the Plan and not to the truth as far as it can be revealed or to the Plan as the Members of the Hierarchy know it.” Glamour, A World Problem, Page 131

Then on the next page he adds this:

“They need to learn to penetrate to the true idea which lies behind their ideal and to interpret it with accuracy in the light of their soul.”

The truths of the passing age are still there, but as the great wheel of the ages turns their application changes and new truths must be realized and embraced.

A profound example of illusion involving the ideal was stressed by DK during World War II. He noted that there was a significant portion of the population who were pacifists and believed in remaining aloof from the conflict, thinking that sending loving vibes and trusting in God’s will was the best thing to do.

DK had quite critical words for these people stating that in some situations, such as World War II “civilisation had to meet force with force.”

“Humanity having decided to fight out the battle physically, there was nothing left to do but issue a challenge to the men and women of goodwill to take their stand on the side of such action as would release humanity through the destruction of the evil forces. These had determined to prove that might was right. Therefore, the forces fighting for progress and civilisation had to meet force with force.”      Externalization of the Hierarchy, Page 178

He further said:

“Such people are like a millstone around the neck of humanity, crippling true effort, murmuring,  ‘Let us love God and each other,’ but doing nothing but murmur prayers and platitudes whilst humanity is dying.”  Externalization of the Hierarchy, Pages 345-346

Then he sums up his thoughts quite succinctly here:

“It is this right attitude on the part of the Forces of Light which has an undesirable effect upon the appeasers and pacifists of the world. These would, for humanitarian reasons and from love of the forms through which humanity functions, bring the war to an immediate end.

“In their well-meaning blindness they would sacrifice the future of humanity and the lives of millions of people at a later date for a temporary cessation of hostilities. I would emphasise to you that the Forces of Evil must be defeated now; the evil leaders must be wrenched from their high place, and the complete defeat and annihilation of those responsible for launching this horror on humanity is an absolute necessity and bounden duty, if security, well-being and a new order of happier living is to be the lot of coming generations.” Externalization of the Hierarchy, Page 426

The sayings of Solomon are eternally true that “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven… a time of war, and a time of peace.” Eccl 3:1 & 8

And even of the Christ it was written that “in righteousness he doth judge and make war.” Rev 19:11

DK has indicated that the Hierarchy usually takes no side in the various wars of history because it often makes little difference as to who wins, but in the case of World War II it was of extreme importance that The Nazis and Axis powers be defeated. When such a situation occurs attempting to be a pacifist or neutral becomes an example of great illusion for it is “Through humanity, alone and unaided (except by the divine Spirit in every human being), can the ‘door where evil dwells be sealed.’”  Discipleship in the New Age, Vol 2, Page 159

A few pages later he says:

“The ‘door where evil dwells’ is kept open by humanity through its selfish desire, its hatreds and its separateness, by its greed and its racial and national barriers, its low personal ambitions and its love of power and cruelty.”

He really is disgusted by those with spiritual aspirations who do not lend support in the physical plane to shutting the door where evil dwells:

“Every nation has also within it those neutrally-minded people who fail to think clearly, who seek to place the blame upon the shoulders of all except themselves, who theorise and speculate, advise, and assign responsibility, but who refrain from any active participation in the processes of adjustment, from reasons of pride or unwillingness to pay the price.” Externalization of the Hierarchy, Page 216

On the other hand, disciples must realize that illusion in this category goes both ways. Abraham Lincoln, for example was an avatar for the forces of light and was seen as evil by half the country and Jesus and other messengers were attacked and killed.

Where good vs. evil is at stake, he says “The Hierarchy is not neutral.” Destiny of the Nations, Page 65

Disciples however must be diligent in choosing correctly. Imagine how embarrassing it would be when having a life review to discovered that you fought against the good guy and supported keeping the door to evil open.

“Whenever there is a withering of the law and an uprising of lawlessness on all sides, then I manifest Myself. For the salvation of the righteous and the destruction of such as do evil, for the firm establishing of the Law, I come to birth age after age.” The Bhagavad Gita, Book IV, Sutra 7, 8.

Illusion and Religion

There is a plethora of illusion in the various religions of the world. What makes this obvious is that there are thousands of them and they disagree with each other on various teachings. If two are in disagreement then the both cannot be right. Either one sees correctly and the other is in error or they are both wrong. The fact that thousands are disagreeing with each other tells us that there are thousands who are obviously caught up in seeing though a distorted illusion.

Not only do religions disagree with each other, but they also disagree with themselves.

For instance, they speak of God who is spirit and is everywhere at one time, and then portray him as a man sitting on a throne surrounded by angels on the other.

They will speak of a God who is fair and just on one hand, and then tell us that life is not fair on the other.

They tell us that God is perfect on one hand, but he created an imperfect world with imperfect humans on the other.

They tell us that God is love and loves all his children even more than we love ours. But then they say that only the saved ones will enter heaven. The rest will go to hell or some undesirable place for eternity.

But have they thought about this? Most believing parents have at least one kid who is not saved. If you really love your children, how can heaven be heaven if a child you love is burning in hell? Wouldn’t that knowledge make even heaven be somewhat hellish?

And what if it was your partner you love, or a good friend? Could you enjoy heaven knowing they are suffering for eternity?

Many believe that the earth and the universe itself is less than 10,000 years old because of a literal interpretation of the word “day” in the Bible. This idea does not conform to science or to the Bible itself. The word “day” which comes from the Hebrew word YOWM. This doesn’t necessarily mean a 24-hour day but can also be translated as “time” implying an unspecified period of time. For instance, Adam was told in Gen 2:17 that he would die in the actual day he ate the fruit, but he lived to be over 900 years afterwards.

We have measured the speed of light and have observed galaxies whose light took over 13 billion years to reach us so 10,000 years is only a very small part of the age of the universe or the earth itself which is dated to be over 4 billion years old.

This illusion of a young earth is caused by following a literal interpretation of the Bible, but the problem is that it is difficult to find two literalists who agree. What is literally correct to one is literally wrong to another.

Another illusion is that Jesus was a son of God in a way that we are not – that he is a special being beyond our reach of attainment. This means that all we can do as depraved sinners is to throw our arms up and surrender to his superior status.

Not only do the Bailey and other enlightened teachings tell us that we all have equal potential as sons of God, but the Bible itself backs up this idea.

It tells us that we are members of the body of Christ who “know the love of Christ” and are “filled with the FULNESS OF GOD” (Eph 3:19)… “until Christ be formed IN YOU.” (Gal 4:19) “To whom God would make known what is the riches of glory of this MYSTERY among the Gentiles: which is CHRIST IN YOU, the hope of glory.” Col 1:28

“LET THIS MIND BE IN YOU WHICH WAS ALSO IN CHRIST JESUS: who being in the form of God, thought it not mockery to be EQUAL WITH GOD: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men…” Phil 2:5-7 “…That the life of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.” II Cor 4:10

It is very liberating for the seeker to realize that Christ is merely an elder brother and the spirit of Christ that was in Jesus is also within us waiting to manifest.

Perhaps the greatest most pervasive illusion that takes hold in every religion is that one must find the most authoritative source of spiritual teaching and follow that to the exclusion of all others including the inner voice. For many this is their scriptures or the authoritative ones who tell them what the scriptures mean.

The problem is that if you limit yourself to learning exactly according to the mindset of a teacher, you will also inherit his flaws.

To escape the illusionary and flawed teachings of the outer world the seeker must go to the inner. Only through inner contact and verification can illusions planted from the outside be dispelled. When dispelled the words of Jesus are then realized: “behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17:21

We could go through all the major religions and find many illusions in them all but these general points should suffice to present the general idea.

The important thing for the seeker to understand is that there will be flaws and illusions in any spiritual organization that relies on an outer authority whether it be a book, a priest, a prophet or guru. The pilgrim must find the kingdom of God within to escape illusion.

“What then will be the task of the churches in the future? And what will be the major objective of the coming new religion? Primarily it will be to bring about the opening of the love petals, thus inaugurating an era of true cooperation, loving understanding and group love. This will be done by training the people and the individual in the rules of Right Approach.” Education in the New Age, Page 57

Sailing out of Illusion

Illusion is an easy subject to understand in part, but very tricky to understand in full. It is generally understood to be a belief in something that is not true, and most individuals on this planet see how this plays out to a degree. But what is not understood by the vast majority is that there are two main divisions of illusion. Most only have an elementary understanding of the first part.

Time, space and the forms within are all created on principles of illusion. The grand illusion is that our home exists within time and space and not in the subtle realms of pure Spirit. The further our consciousness is from being centered on Spirit the greater is the depth of illusion into which we have entered.

Visualize yourself being away from home on a ship sailing a deep ocean, and you decide to dive to the bottom of the waters to see what is there. You have a special suit that allows you to breath and survive the pressure. As you begin the dive you can still see light and the fish swimming nearby but as you descend it gets darker and darker until it is pitch black as you hit bottom. You brought a flashlight but this allows you to see just a small part of what’s going on. There could be a big shark behind you and you wouldn’t have a clue. You know the ship is above you but you cannot see it and are not even sure it is still there waiting for you.

This illustrates somewhat the nature of our journey as we began our earth experience. We begin in darkness with little light available. Unless we focus the light, all around us is darkness. To leave the darkness we must ascend toward the true light which will reveal our true home.

During our visit to this land of illusion it seems that there are many forces combined to keep our attention in the darkness of this world. The first is the attraction of matter itself, often called maya. This includes our attraction to forms, associated with wealth, the tug of our appetites demanding satisfaction and sexual desire. The attraction of these forces keeps us in the darkness with a tiny light bent on exploring and making the best of the little we can see.

The second force that keeps us in illusion is the pull of our emotional nature with its associated glamor and sense of ego importance. This functions in the universal waters that surround us creating misdirection and causes the person to stay on the bottom and make the best of the situation. He finds that when he tries to ascend that he enters a space where there seems to be no up or down. He is just suspended in hazy waters. He becomes frightened and lets himself sink back down to the bottom and continues making the best of exploring there.

The ocean floor is symbolic of the attraction of the material world, the murky waters of the emotional and the air above symbolizes the mind where the problem of illusion must be solved.

So far the diver is controlled by illusion, but the illusion is controlling forces he does not understand. Finally, he grows tired of exploring the depths of the waters and decides to ignore his fears and ascend to return home. He decides to follow the upward light until he reaches the air above.

He thus holds his mind steady in the light, leaves the ocean floor behind, ascends through the murky waters and finally reaches the air above.

He rises his head above the waters and looks for his ship, but doesn’t see it. He is filled with fear and thinks perhaps he will be left adrift forever. He panics for a while but eventually settles down and reasons to himself. He knows his ship must be nearby for he returned near to the place where he left it.

Finally, after settling down and looking for solutions he realizes the glass on the diving suit was covered with fog. He wipes it clean and sees his ship in the distance. He swims toward it, waving to get attention from those who can pull him aboard. After a short time, his mates see him and assist in bringing him on board.

Now the new goal is to sail the ship back to the shore and return to the true home on dry ground yet with full access to the air.

They set sail and use a compass for the general direction but receive more specific guidance through GPS from space. On their way back to land they encounter a couple storms that temporarily wiped-out internet connections, but after a period of keeping the aim on the goal, the adventurer does make his way back home.

This story illustrates the two major levels of illusion. The first and deepest level occurs where he is under water and has no access to the air and sunshine of the upper world. All of his attention is focused on dealing with problems encountered while immersed in the ocean itself. It is only when he rises above the ocean, boards his ship and lives in the air and sunshine that he can make any real progress on navigating back to his true home.

We will next discuss the importance of discovering the illusion above the waters and finding our way home.

When I was born, I was so surprised I couldn’t talk for a year and a half. – Gracie Allen

Higher and Lower Illusion

Lower illusion can be compared to the illusion dealt with by the diver when he was under water. When under water nothing that was happening in the air was of any concern. All his thinking existed under the water while he was submerged. But when he came out of the water into the air he had to deal with a different type of illusion.

The air is a symbol of the mind and there are many tricks that reality plays upon the mind the prevents the disciple from returning to the “House of the Father.”

The key piece of knowledge to deal with the higher form of illusion is to realize that it comes from the mind and is different from the illusions connected to appetite, passion and feeling.

Let me give examples illustrating the difference.

Example One: Mary is captivated by Jim. He is good looking, passionate and sweeps her off her feet. He has many flaws but the wonderful feelings he stirs in her causes her to ignore them.

Her being attracted to the wrong man is not caused by an illusion from the mind, but her feelings. If she listened to her mind, she would not consider a serious relationship with him.

Example Two: Jack believes that babies are born in sin and they need to be baptized or they could go to hell.

This belief was not caused by Jack’s material nature or his emotional feelings, but affects his mind. As far as his emotion goes, he probably loves babies and feels they are innocent, but his mind accepts otherwise because he has bought into his religious belief system.

This illusion can only be dispelled when he examines it with reason and asking questions such as: Why would God send a baby to hell if it died before it could get baptized?

The problem is that when a belief system is accepted many do not examine those beliefs with the reasoning mind but merely believe what their particular group is supposed to believe.

An illusion of the mind is like a strong hypnotic suggestion. It can be so powerful that an order to kill yourself, as happened with the Heaven’s Gate group, is not questioned.

Before all the higher illusions can be seen and neutralized the lower must be mastered and the key to this is the gaining of a great insight into the astral plane, the seat of the lower emotions which control so many. DK says this about about the astral plane:

“There is no astral plane except in the consciousness of the fourth kingdom in nature, for man is “under illusion” in a sense different to the conscious awareness of any other kingdom—subhuman or superhuman… The secret science of the Master of the Wisdom is the secret of how to dissipate the fogs and mist and darkness and gloom which are produced by the union of the fires in the early stages. The secret of the Master is the discovery that there is no astral plane; he finds that the astral plane is a figment of the imagination and has been created through the uncontrolled use of the creative imagination and the misuse of the magical powers.” A Treatise on White Magic, Pages 614-615

“For the initiate members of the Great White Lodge the astral plane does not exist. They do not work on that level of consciousness, for the astral plane is a definite state of awareness even if (from the spiritual angle) it has no true being. It embodies the great creative work of humanity down the ages, and is the product of the ‘false’ imagination and the work of the lower psychic nature.” A Treatise on White Magic, Page 40

It is interesting then that from the view of the higher lives the lower emotions do not even exist. Higher emotions associated with love are real, but the lower are not. Unfortunately, most humans identify with the lower emotions and are thus controlled by them. However, when the seeker learns that they do not even exist in the consciousness of Christ then he can begin to ignore them and let them die from attrition. When the disciple no longer places any attention on hate, anger, envy, etc. then they will be as if they never were.

DK stresses the importance of moving from the lower to the higher in order to progress through the initiations:

“In the last analysis, the partial subjugation of glamour and escape from the complete thraldom of illusion are indications to the watching Hierarchy that a man is ready for the processes of initiation. Until he is no longer completely deceived and until he is somewhat free mentally, it is not possible for him to face the waiting Angel and pass through the door.” Glamour: A World Problem, Page 126

Notice his wording that an “escape from the complete thraldom of illusion” is necessary. This indicates that the aspirant may still have a partial thraldom with illusion even as he proceeds on the path. As we proceed in spiritual evolution we pierce through layer upon layer of illusion. We dispel one and then face another.

As the disciple overcomes the lower and sees through the higher “astral and physical worlds no longer shut him away from the realities or from the true subjective world of causes, and of force emanations. He is no longer deceived and can discriminate between the real and the unreal, between the true and the false, and between the life of the spirit and the world of phenomena.” Light of the Soul, Page 165

To learn to discriminate “between the real and the unreal, between the true and the false” constitutes a huge step forward in the life of the pilgrim for then he “can discriminate between the Real and the unreal, then the inflowing force will flood their lives with effective unselfish love and with devotion to the Plan, to those whom the Plan serves, and to Those Who serve the Plan. Note the sequence of these attitudes, and govern yourselves accordingly.”     Esoteric Psychology Vol II, Page 137

Some illusions of the mind can be discovered through reasoning, contemplation, reflection and feedback from others, but some must be revealed through intuition itself for “where the intuition is unawakened the illusion is complete and real.” Externalization, Page 12

Entering this stage of higher initiation where one sees beyond illusion is “due to the development of the sense of the intuition which puts into the disciple’s hand an infallible instrument whereby to discriminate and to discern. His perception is becoming accurate and he stands relatively free from deception and wrong identifications and interpretations.” Glamour: A World Problem, Page 101

There is no infallible black and white plan to develop the intuition and dispel illusion. The disciple must merely seek to always move forward following the highest he knows, holding the mind steady in the light, while being open to correction. Knowledge of how to proceed will then come in flashes of intuition. If that light is followed then more light will come negating illusion which obstructs the path.

Teachers must think for themselves if they are to help others think for themselves. – Carnegie Corporation

Illusion and Freedom

The illusion concerning freedom is perhaps the most potent of all illusions that need to be neutralized by the disciple.  If a person advances on the path and becomes a potent force, but is still captivated by it then he or she will become dangerous.

Hitler, Mao, Stalin and Castro were all advanced entities, but were captivated by an illusionary idea of what freedom is, and the result was they greatly diminished freedom rather than expanding it.

Let us begin by defining what is the true principle of freedom:

True freedom consists of that system of laws and actions that allows for the maximum possible freedom for a people as a whole. When this state exists, all individual freedoms will function at a high level.

However, maximum freedom cannot exist within the confines of unlimited freedom – or a state of lawlessness.

For instance, if we lived in a state of lawless anarchy, a burglar would be free to break into your house and steal what he wants. Allowing this diminishes the freedom of the whole while allowing only one person (the burglar) to benefit.

For maximum freedom, laws must be in place to restrict abusive behavior so the individuals therein can follow their pursuit of happiness.

This idea of the Principle of Freedom seems simple enough and most who have read this far will agree with it yet the percentage of those whose support runs contrary to it is large indeed.  This occurs because illusion covers the true principle with a false idea that sounds good, making the truth difficult to see.

Here is basically that which is followed by those who violate the principle:

The illusion of freedom: The illusion of freedom is created when the individual, and others believing as he does, receive what they want, but at the expense of others.  In other words, freedom is not increased for the whole, but for only a part of that whole.

The prime example illustrating this is the belief held by those in the southern U.S. states leading to the Civil War. Many are not aware that the slaveholders there saw themselves fighting for freedom. The slaves allowed their masters to have more free time and a better quality of life.  They also felt the slaves were not intelligent enough to take care of themselves, so they thought slavery was the best thing for them. In their minds slavery was a win-win for freedom.

On hindsight it is obvious to most at the present time that the South was captured by a great illusion, but for those who lived through it, slavery seemed to make a lot of sense. Also, keep in mind that the southern states were one of the last strongholds of slavery, for it has been a common practice among all races for thousands of years.

Think not my friends that humanity has evolved to the point where the masses now see the true principle of freedom. Many today want freedom for themselves at the expense of others, but would be horrified to be compared to making the same mistake as the old southern states. Even so, many support freedom for themselves without even thinking of the effect on others.

Perhaps nothing illustrates the violation of the principle of freedom more than the use put to our tax dollars.  Most are willing to pay what they consider to be a fair share of taxes if the government uses the money wisely. But when we learn of how much of the money is wasted or spent on outrageous things, then we have the situation where the taxpayer is in the position of the slave. He has to work to pay taxes that benefits a few, but at his expense.

An example we can all agree on is the fraud that takes our tax dollars. Medicare and Medicaid fraud alone cost us $94 billion in 2025. This s a huge amount, but does not even figure in the waste within the system.

On top of that is wasteful spending in all branches of government.  The Congress allocates spending in ways that probably 90% of taxpayers would oppose such as $20 million for a new Sesame Street show in Iraq or $6 million to promote tourism in Egypt. Then there’s $15 million for condoms and related items to the Taliban.

There are those who have compiled lists containing hundreds of allocations of wasteful spending that are amusing, but also sad to read.

Something that really adds to the illusion is when the government creates programs that spend money for what seems to be a benevolent purpose. If spending taxpayer funds helps children, animals, the homeless, the environment, or the disadvantaged then that must be good. Right? Such benevolent activities cannot violate the Principle of Freedom – can they?

Consider this. A son steals is father’s credit card, but uses it for what he believes to be a good purpose. He makes a big donation to a homeless shelter. The father finds out and is upset and confronts the son who responds: “Why are you upset. It’s for a good cause.”

Then the father responds: “There are two problems here. First you are spending my money without my permission, and, secondly, we are having financial problems and if we are not careful with our finances, we are the ones that may be homeless.”

Another example is the guy who is mad at the system and robs a bank, but feels justified because he gives the money to a friend to cover medical expenses. Obviously, he didn’t get permission from the bank or those who depend on its services. The correct action for him would be to seek to raise the money from those who volunteer through free will.

The United States as well as many other countries taxes and borrows money to support many benevolent or essential sounding services. As of February 2026, the U.S. has overspent to the tune of over $38 trillion on things that seem to be a good idea at the time. Taxpayers fork out over a trillion a year on interest on that debt – something they did not voluntarily sign up for.

Now imagine what we could do with an extra trillion dollars a year. That is enough to end poverty as we know it.

Taxes and debt affect the whole, but benevolent spending on a particular program affects the few. The good of the few must be adjusted to the good of the many just as happens with a wise household budget. It may seem wonderful if the family could purchase that new car, eat out more or go on a vacation abroad, but the budget designed for the good of the whole will not allow them to do all the fun things they desire.

The desire to do good things with money, especially other people’s money, creates an illusion that hides many from seeing how they are in violation of the Principle of Freedom.

It is possible to make many good things happen, but there are no magical shortcuts. Instead of creating debt that will restrict freedom of taxpayers, our children and grandchildren, the true freedom lover works for the good of the many with the resources we legitimately have.

This principle extends to many different areas of living. Who or what we view as an authority that tells us what do to or think instead of relying upon our own inner guidance is a source that can rob one of individual freedom of choice. One who accepts true freedom does not accept any outward authority as absolute.

The ways that the rulers and authorities of the world can lead the people into illusion that hide true freedom is great and it takes a substantial degree of enlightenment to discern the truth.

I’ll end this with some quotes from DK about freedom, for he laid great emphasis on its importance saying, “Search freedom. Ponder on this. It is the goal for all.”     Discipleship in the New Age, Vol 2, Page 755

He points out that real freedom is not under stood by most people that “Only the disciples of the world and the initiates know the true significance and implications of freedom of choice, and the right use of the will, and this because they are motivated by group good and the need of the majority.” Externalization of the Hierarchy, Page 125

Then he adds this: “The governing body in any nation should be composed of those who work for the greatest good of the greatest number and who at the same time offer opportunity to all, seeing to it that the individual is left free.” Externalization of the Hierarchy, Page 191

DK seems to agree with the sentiment of Patrick Henry who made the famous statement: “Give me liberty or give me death.”  He said this:

There are worse things than the death of the physical body; there is the enslaving of the human soul.     Externalization of the Hierarchy, Page 311

May we all see through illusion to an understanding of true freedom.

If you want total security, go to prison. There you’re fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking … is freedom. – Dwight D. Eisenhower

Illusion and Reality

Illusion and Reality

A reader asked for some additional clarification on illusion

In the past I have taught that a third-degree initiate is one who has overcome illusion. This is an accomplishment a disciple must achieve if he is to be trusted by the Hierarchy. Before he or she overcome illusion one can be deceived sufficiently to do a lot of damage to the spiritual work – not because of evil intentions but because the seeker can be tricked by circumstances and emotion to going off course.

With this in mind the reader was perplexed that some who he considered to be third degree initiates seemed to be in error, especially concerning prediction they made.

First of all, let me clarify that no one is perfect, not even a fifth-degree master or higher. Even DK made a number of predictions that did not come true on schedule. On the positive side, he made some impressive ones that did. I do not know of anyone who has been more than about 50% accurate when making specific predictions of the future.

So, what then sets a third degree initiate apart from the crowd if he can still make mistakes? What does it mean that he has mastered illusion? And if he has mastered illusion then why can he not predict the future with 100% accuracy?

To understand the answer, we must comprehend what illusion is, what it does and how the disciple behaves when he has transcended it.

Illusion in the seeker is caused by two things. The first is a wrong belief or dogma implanted into his belief system that he has not examined in the light of day and weeded out. This can be apply to various areas of inclination.

Religion. He may have had a wrong religious belief implanted into his mind when he was young. For instance, he may believe that Jesus was perfect [as we define the word today]. Everyone says this and he has just accepted it and never examined such a belief with pure reason.

He may believe we are born in sin and thus sees humanity as a virus not able to do anything that is good in the world.

Politics. He may see freedom only as it affects him and not the whole. He may thus endorse policy that brings him more freedom but enslaves the masses.

Science. He may accept scientific consensus and theories that are popular without questioning them and thus not see error when there is error to be seen.

Education. He may rely too strongly on being taught by others and thus absorb their illusions. The disciple has no problem learning from others but he always does a lot of self-education and questions all that he has been taught.

The list could go on but this should make the point.

The second thing that causes illusion is a flaw in the thinking or reasoning process. This flaw is usually there, not because the seeker is not smart but is caused by a hidden emotional attachment that causes his focus to be blurred. As a result he concludes that 2+2=5 rather than 4.

A good example of this type of illusion is illustrated in the discussion over the Comet Elenin. When it was way beyond the orbit of Jupiter many were declaring that it was a red dwarf star that was going to cause great destruction.

Now the logical mind can conclude that there is always the possibility that some type of destruction could occur when it reaches a certain alignment but the chances of it ever being a red dwarf star is about as close to zero as one could get.

Illusion got the best of these believers for several reasons.

A tremendous number of people in the new age and religious world believed this so many were subject to group think or the thoughtform generated.

Secondly many have an emotional attachment to the belief in Planet X and are expecting it return soon and will not use a discerning mind when someone falsely identifies it.

When the disciple has mastered illusion, he will use all resources at his disposal to find the truth. 2+2 must equal four. And if he does not have enough information to know the truth for sure he will surely reject or strongly question reasoning that tells us it equals five.

For instance, when the seeker was told that Elenin was a brown dwarf when it was beyond the orbit of Jupiter what would he do if not subject to illusion?

First of all, he would do some research and find out what a brown dwarf is. When he finds this out he could add 2+2 and figure that Elenin could not possibly be one because it would have been as bright as the moon in the sky, and at that time one needed a powerful telescope to see it as a tiny dot.

The third-degree initiate does not let distorted ideas, bull headed flawed beliefs, dogma, group think, or trusted authorities convince him that two plus two equals anything other than four.

Even though the third-degree initiate has transcended illusion he is far from infallible and may only be average in predicting the future. He will be able to spot illogical predictions, however.

If he has bad information that he has no way of verifying then he can indeed be misled. For instance, if he asks for directions to the grocery store and someone tells him to go left when it is really on the right then he will spend some time going the wrong direction.

If the weatherman tells him it is 70 degrees when it is really 80 the he is likely to think it is warmer than it is.

The initiate uses the Second Key of Judgment and will not concern himself with being right with inconsequential details, but on an important issue he will leave no stone unturned and not let astral thinking get in the way of getting to the truth – as far as possible.

Life is a song – sing it. Life is a game – play it. Life is a challenge – meet it. Life is a dream – realize it. Life is a sacrifice – offer it. Life is love – enjoy. – Sai Baba

Crème and Illusion

Crème and Illusion

I give appreciation to the Crème supporter for responding calmly, a trait very uncharacteristic of those who take issue with me.

Your defense of Crème goes along nicely with our subject of illusion.

Consider this, A stage hypnotist will sometimes give a performance as follows:

He takes a guy from the audience and puts him under a fairly deep trance.

He tells him: “Whenever I say the word ‘banana’ you will scratch your head and whenever I say the word ‘apple’ you will stand on your head. You will not remember me giving you this suggestion.”

Then he wakes him up and starts talking to the audience using the word “banana” twice. The man then scratches his head twice. The hypnotist turns to the man and asks him, “Why did you scratch your head.”

The man will give a seemingly logical answer, “Because it itches.”

The audience laughs

The hypnotist then turns and continues talking to the audience and slips out the word “apple.” The man then stands on his head.

As the audience is rolling in laughter the Hypnotists asks the man, “Why are you standing on your head?”

“I thought the audience would find it amusing,” he says.

“And it doesn’t bother you that the audience is laughing?”

“Of course not,” says the man. “That’s what I wanted to happen.”

In the end the subject feels rather silly when he finds out the truth. He didn’t scratch his head or stand on it because of his own idea but because of a hypnotic suggestion he allowed to be planted within him. The truth should have dawned on him. After all, he was in the presence of a hypnotist who was making people do crazy things. Why did it not occur to him that his strange behavior was not his own idea but from something implanted within him?

You my friend are the subject, Crème is the hypnotist and we are the audience. This is a polite audience and they will not outright laugh, but I guarantee that most of them are amused by your strange explanation as to how Crème can be dead wrong at least four times about fixing dates for a mass appearance of Christ and yet you come up with fantastic explanations as to why he is wrong, entirely overlooking the obvious.

You are not alone. At least once a year there appears a story about some Christian preacher who gets a revelation to meet Christ or a spaceship on some mountaintop at a certain date. The followers often sell all they have because they will not need them after the noted date. When the date arrives the group goes to the mountaintop and nothing happens.

What does the preacher do? Does he admit he is wrong?

Never.

Instead the dialog usually goes something like this:

“The Master did not show up because circumstances have changed. He has now set a new date. In addition to this, many in the group have shown a lack of faith and have displeased the Master. We are not ready for him if he should appear. Our task now is to work on showing greater faith and be prepared for the real date of the appearance which will be soon. Very soon.”

Or he may just give something even more simple:

“Bothers and sisters this was a test of your faith. Now we must get ready for the real thing.”

The interesting thing is to examine the reaction of the followers. You would think they would see right through this preacher, realize they have been deceived, throw their arms up in disgust and go home and start a new life. But do they?

No. Rarely. Maybe one or two out of a hundred. The ninety nine are in deep hypnosis and cannot see the truth in front of their nose, just like the subject on the stage. They accept without question whatever the preacher tells them and will not even consider anything else.

Such a deceived one may be encountered by a friend:

“The man said Jesus was going to show up at Noon on March 3rd. He didn’t show up. Nothing happened. Does that not tell you something?”

“You don’t understand. Reverend Jones is in contact with Jesus and speaks for him. Jesus was just testing us and I’m not going to let him down.”

The friend sighs. He feels badly for his friend, but realizes there is nothing he can do.

Why is it that the vast majority fail to even consider that such a grievous error is evidence that Jones’ contact with Jesus is illusion even thought it is sublimely obvious to a casual observer?

The answer is this.

A belief planted in the solar plexus of desire and nourished by attention, study and works becomes a strong attachment and acts as if it were a powerful hypnotic suggestion. It is so powerful that the man cannot see the source of the illusion just as the subject who stood on his head could not.

If you follow the standard reaction here you will seek to turn this around and tell me that it is I and not yourself who is under the deep trance. Before you attempt this I will ask then where is the correspondence?

Where is my hypnotist? I have none that plant false data into my mind.

Where are the false predictions hat I have mindlessly swallowed?

Where is the audience that is laughing at me?

You cannot attempt to turn the tables and point back at me because I do not fit the mold. I have no guru with which I feel an impulse to hypnotically conform.

I do not mean to offend you my friend, but I do seek to awaken you out of your deep sleep so you can be of real use to the world. As I said before I see real potential in you, but such potential is often wasted on the slumbering giants of history who live and die with little effect on the world.

I’ll end with an instructive quote from DK

“The visionary dreamer or the well-intentioned but impractical person whose ideas and world plans and suggestions as to the new world order litter the desks of world leaders and of those groups and organisations who are attempting practically to blueprint the future. Their dreams and ideas deal with projects for which the world of today is not ready and will not be ready for several thousand years. It is an easy thing for them to present impossible Utopias which have not the faintest relation to things which are needed today and which could be made possible. The name of these people is legion, and at this time they constitute a definite hindrance. A vision of the impossible is not the type of vision which will keep the people from perishing. Because of an inability to compromise and to face up to things as they are, these people and those whom they influence are landed in despair and disillusionment.” Externalization of the Hierarchy, Pages 459-460

Love and Wisdom

Love and Wisdom

A reader comments on the quote, “Truth that is true and nothing else is true.” He asks who it is that determines what is true as many think their false beliefs are true.

This quote comes from the Course in Miracles.

Truth is not determined by anyone. It just is what it is and does not change because of anyone’s determination or judgment.

For instance it is true that I will write three X’s in the next paragraph as follows:

XXX

Now if a person “determines” that there is four X’s, will that change what I have written here at this moment in time and space?

No.

It will be true for all eternity that at this moment in time and space I have written three X’s. What someone believes about what I have written changes nothing about this post I am making.

Now some make a valid point that a misconception or illusionary perception of a past event will cause a current belief system based on illusion that seems as real as one based on truth.

Let us suppose for instance that Ben Franklin was a bad dude and sacrificed children to satanic rituals. Up to now we have had no evidence of such deeds and our belief toward him is as if he were squeaky clean. On the other hand, our illusionary data does not change the nature of what really happened at that time and if he did malfeasant deeds they will have created subtle long lasting effects of which we are consciously unaware.

From Keith’s last post I think we are seeing eye to eye. The victor in any war will certainly color their history in their favor. True history is difficult to discern. To get a true picture one must either read two points of view or the writings of an historian who lives maybe 100 years after the event so he has little emotional investment in the presentation.

Take Bill Clinton these past eight years, for instance (written June, 2000). Two people, one a friend and one a foe, could write a biography of him today and you would think they were writing about two different people. It may take some time period before he will be able to be judged impartially.

One would have to be close to initiate status to write an accurate book about him today.

Yes, it would be a shock to learn for sure that Ben Franklin was a Satanist who sacrificed children. If this is true it would mean one of two things.

(1) He was a plant from the Dark Brothers to subtly sabotage the drive for independence. It is interesting that before the war he did all he could to reconcile the colonies to the crown.

(2) He was a worker of light at heart who temporarily yielded to temptation. I tend to go with this option (if the story is true). Workers in the light have been known to take some great slips and then recover and redeem themselves. Paul who persecuted the Christians is a prime example.

Note: At the time the discovery of bones in Franklins English residence was in the news. Here is a link to more details:

A reader says:

“No ‘thing’ can happen to you, without your conscious or unconscious thought.”

There is no such thing as unconscious thought. Thought only springs from consciousness. What people call the unconscious within us is really computer-like programs that are on line running with no more consciousness than this computer I am working on. All of our programming though was created by conscious thought at some time in the distant past.

I think we all clearly observe that many things happen to us that originate outside of our own conscious thought. I may step on some gum and not know it for some time. The event had to do with the conscious thought of whoever chewed the gum and threw it in my path rather than any thought I possess.

The reality of this is so obvious I am surprised this subject would come up.

Cause and effect manifesting thought and decision caused chaos to gravitate to organization. All organization we see before us – such as the human cell or DNA is the result of conscious thought on some level, but now operates automatically below the threshold of consciousness.

Thought and energy corresponds to the chicken and the egg and are related. Thought is organized energy.

You are not your body, you are not your feelings and you are not your mind or thoughts.

What are you?

You are that power within that can make a decision from which purpose and potential power reside and from which all things spring.

A reader maintains that we can insulate ourselves from all negativity with the right attitude of thought.

No one can close the door to all negativity. As long as we live in this reality, the door of the dualities of positive and negative is always open and only seems closed to one in illusionary thought, though an enlightened soul can successfully navigate the waters of the waves of duality. The good sailor does not pretend the waves do not exist, but makes a judgment about the conditions and acts accordingly.

There is much misunderstanding concerning the Dark Brothers. The most common one is that the aspirant will often think he is being targeted by them when he is merely undergoing the trials of ordinary living. Only when you personally become a threat to their goals will you be in danger of attack. They do affect average people but only through group influence and not individually.

It is illusion to believe that a positive attitude, having no fear, or just closing a door could shut them out. This seems to work for most new agers with this attitude because they pose no threat to them, but if a powerful Dark Brother or his group decided to attack what we would call a normal positive person with no obvious fears or negativity I will guarantee you this person would have an instant change of thought in his view of the dark forces.

Every great avatar that has ever walked the earth, including Jesus and Buddha, has had to wrestle with a direct attack from these Dark Ones in one form or another. I know of no current disciple greater than they.

If one is attacked, positive thinking and the control of fear will help but that alone is not enough for victory. Other factors include centering your attention on the true light within and strengthening your link between matter and spirit. The disciple must gather around him spiritual force of equal or greater strength than the dark brothers have in negative energy through which they attack.

Direct attacks from the Dark Brothers are only used when nothing else works for them. Overall they have found that honey works better for them than vinegar. They can manipulate unsuspecting people of goodwill through their illusionary beliefs and egos and often achieve their ends by dividing and frustrating the work of disciples.

Some are against war or killing in any situation. They think that it was wrong for the German conspirators to attempt to kill Hitler even though it would have saved millions of lives.

Many within the New Age community seem to have this type of thinking. To this let me present the writings of a Master of Wisdom (Djwhal Khul) given during the time that World War II was raging and it seemed that the forces of light were in danger of losing to Hitler.

“It is because of the delay in right understanding, and the slowness of many to appreciate the true situation, that Those Who guide the race and work on the spiritual side of life have been unable to do much up to date except spiritually strengthen the hands of the workers with the Forces of Light. The faith of many has kept the door ajar, yet even these have forgotten frequently that “faith without works is dead.” It is only when faith finds active expression upon the physical plane in right cooperation and sacrifice (even unto death) that the door can be forced wide open and divine intervention become possible. It is only when the vision and dream of peace-which beguiles so many well-meaning people-gives way to the determination to take every possible means to achieve that peace in practical ways upon the physical plane that the inner spiritual forces will be enabled to work also more actively on earth.

“Curiously enough, they are often hindered today by the idealists, who love their ideals more than they love humanity and who cling to their special interpretations of what they think Christ meant, at the same time excluding that real love which characterised His every act and which would drive them into active, selfless service to the Forces of Light. They do nothing to bring the conflict to an end because they are preoccupied with their own dreams, ideals and interpretations; when they can let these go because of love of humanity, then the new vision will come and the world will be saved; the Forces of Light will find potent expression and the forces of aggression will go down to defeat.” The Externalisation of the Hierarchy, Pages 256-257

“… The neutral powers are still selfish (though they seek by philanthropy to veil it), but they are rapidly awakening to the true issues, and when there is real synthesis of goal and of purpose and a true unification of vision upon the mental plane, of fixed and unalterable desire upon the emotional plane, and a dedication to practical effort upon the physical plane, then there will be hope that the embodiment of “the desire of all nations” will appear.

“That embodiment is one mode in which divine intervention can take place. The Prince of Peace will lead His people-through war-to peace. Those who think only in terms of peace as they understand it and desire it are apt to forget the Biblical implication that the Prince of Peace takes a definite part in the battle of Armageddon (now in full progress). After achieving victory, He will then lead His triumphant cohorts through the gates into ‘Jerusalem,’ the city of peace.” (Pages 258-259)

***

“There are two great handicaps to the free expression of the Will force in its true nature. One is the sensitivity of the lower nature to its impact, and its consequent prostitution to selfish ends, as in the case of the sensitive, negative German people and its use by the Axis nations for material objectives. The second is the blocking, hindering, muddled but massed opposition of the well-meaning people of the world who talk vaguely and beautifully about love but refuse to consider the techniques of the Will of God in operation. According to them, that Will is something with which they will personally have naught to do; they refuse to recognise that God works out His Will through men, just as He is ever seeking to express His Love through men; they will not believe that that Will could possibly express itself through the destruction of evil with all the material consequences of that evil. They cannot believe that a God of Love could possibly employ the first divine aspect to destroy the forms which are obstructing the free play of the divine Spirit; that Will must not infringe upon their interpretation of Love. Such people are individually of small moment and of no importance, but their massed negativity is a real detriment to the ending of this war, just as the massed negativity of the German people, and their inability to take right action when Hitler’s purposes were disclosed, made possible the great inflow of ancient and focussed evil which has brought the present catastrophe to man. Such people are like a millstone around the neck of humanity, crippling true effort, murmuring, “Let us love God and each other,” but doing nothing but murmur prayers and platitudes whilst humanity is dying.” (Pages 345-346)

Interesting thoughts from a Master in the midst of the greatest conflict the world has ever seen. We must ever remember that the heart center is composed of two cooperating energies: Love and Wisdom. In this situation it was indeed wisdom to put Hitler down in any way possible, else love could have no chance to fully manifest upon the earth.

God and Illusion

10/12/99

God and Illusion

A reader writes:

“God has not created illusion. We did with our rational mind. Illusion is not but a thought, a wrong thought in the human mind.

“There is not but God in the universe. We as well as every being are God. In that perspective there is nothing but us as there is nothing but God in the universe. However in us as in God is contained all other beings in existence. God is alone and not alone; we are alone and not alone. God is one and many; we are one and many.”

Let us examine the first statement:

“God has not created illusion. We did with our rational mind. Illusion is not but a thought, a wrong thought in the human mind.”

Question: Who created our minds?

Answer: God

Question: Are we one with God in the true reality?

Answer: Yes

Question: Therefore who created the illusion?

Answer: God

Reader: “There is not but God in the universe.”

Therefore, even the illusion which is real to us (who are also one with God and creators with God) would have to be part of the creation and plan of God.

If all things are created by God then the illusion also is his creation and responsibility no matter what anyone has written to the contrary.

Wrong Interpretation?

Reader: Illusion as a wrong interpretation of reality is essentially lack, devoid of truth. God is truth or reality. God does not create lack of anything. No matter how real the wrong thought, illusion, appears to us it is devoid of truth or reality.

JJ: But who is making this wrong interpretation of reality??? Is it not a part of us that is an extension of God and therefore God is making such interpretation?

Besides, I thought that you teach that there is no right or wrong, thus there can be no “wrong” interpretation. If we are all correct why attempt to set us straight???

Reader: “You can say illusion is created by man in duality or even God in duality, but you would be confusing everyone by saying that illusion is created by God or man in oneness.”

JJ: Since everything began with God in oneness then the duality had to spring from God in His oneness. To say that duality was created by something apart from God is to say that there is something else out there that is not God doing some creating. This of course cannot be true for all things come from God even duality, especially duality.

Reader: “Thus when we refer to God we mean God and not God’s manifestation; when we refer to the manifestation of God we mean God’s manifestation and not God.”

JJ: So are you saying that God is not omnipresent but exists in some location apart and separate from manifestation?

Reader: There is no right or wrong in oneness. In separate duality such as our experiences however there is the belief in right or wrong.

JJ: This does not answer my question. My question to you is why do you take positions almost daily on the rightness or wrongness of comments of people in this group when you claim to follow this oneness idea, or do you feel that you have not reached it yet yourself?

Also you did not answer my other question which was:

“But who is making this wrong interpretation of reality??? Is it not a part of us that is an extension of God and therefore God is making such interpretation?”

Let me rephrase it:

Something obviously made or created duality which includes this world and universe in which we find ourselves. You say God did not do it. If God did not do it then something that was not even created by God did it. Who made this “thing” out there that’s running around creating everything playing tricks on us? Now you can’t say it is our minds. But because we, including our minds, are part of God’s creation, this still makes God responsible for it all.

Reader: As duality is from oneness everything that is dual is ultimately from oneness. However illusion, as lack of truth, can only come from duality and not from oneness as the source of all.

JJ: Your second statement here contradicts the first. If duality comes from oneness and illusion from duality then illusion owes its being to the oneness that created duality.

Maybe it is illusion but I have great difficulty in getting a direct answer from you to my questions. Let me repeat my question again:

“My question to you is why do you take positions almost daily on the rightness or wrongness of comments of people on this list when you claim to follow this oneness idea, or do you feel that you have not reached it yet yourself?”

Your non answer was:

“I merely talk about ideas and engage in metaphysical discussions. I have never critically commented on the rightness or wrongness of people’s positions. I have never launched personal attacks or passed negative remarks and I have never talked about what I have achieved.”

JJ: No one is saying you have been critical and I do not think that I have been critical in return. No one has said that you have launched personal attacks and I also hope you have not seen my comments as such. BUT you have taken positions almost daily on the rightness or wrongness of comments of people on this list. This type of judgment of right and wrong is in harmony with my philosophy, but from what you have said it seems to be out of harmony with your own. How do you justify this type of judgment when you seem to teach against it??? From what you have said it would seem to interfere with your focus away from duality.

Reader: “Your reasoning logically leads to the conclusion that since good and evil come from the oneness of God, evil has to directly come from God.”

JJ: All things come from God, including both sides of the duality including evil. I know you’re not big on authority; nevertheless I will quote the Bible which has meaning for some:

“I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.” Isaiah 45:7

Thus we see that even the great prophet Isaiah taught that God created evil.

Like I say, if God did not create evil then we have some other being that is not God who is responsible for much (or all) of the creation we see.

Reader: This is simply negating the concept of duality. God and his manifestation are the

primeval duality. From this duality come all dualities of manifested forms. It is essentially correct to say all is God but with some qualification. To say that God, the source of all, acts to create evil or illusion without participation by humans, as is the case, is not speaking with precision and clarity.

JJ: But humans are the “image of God,” or the reflections of God. Jesus point blank stated that we are Gods (See John 10:34). Therefore, whatever we create is a creation for which God is responsible for man and God are one. We are his hands.

Here is my thought on this duality debate. I believe the principle behind it all is illustrated quite accurately in my first chapter of the Molecular Relationship. In the beginning (of this universe) God was a singularity (oneness) which projected Purpose in all directions since there were no directions. Purpose vibrated and created the wavelength. The wavelength in turn created all there is which is evidenced by the explorations of science. Within matter they can find nothing solid, but only smaller and smaller wavelengths. Even a quark is made from them.

In this world we see all things as separate and distinct, but in the higher worlds they are one as the body is one, but with many parts. Within our bodies is one spirit of life and that life is omnipresent throughout the body. Nevertheless the body has many parts. Even though the eye is separate and distinct from one angle, it still shares the same life as does the hand. Therefore when one of my eyes sees correctly it does not see itself as a mere eye, but as the whole. In my case the eye that sees itself as one with my body would not say “I am an eye,” but would say “I am JJ” and I use my uniqueness to see for him which is myself.

When we shift from the angle of vision of seeing ourselves as a separate universe (as Philo in my book) to that of seeing the connectedness and oneness of all life then higher revelation does become possible.

I know that some have probably questioned the wisdom of my spending so much time on this topic, but it seems to come up again and again. Because of this I hope to elucidate it clearly enough now so we can have greater unity and focus in the future.

Clears and Soul Contact

9/2/99

Clears and Soul Contact

Concerning Scientology, a common theme in Hubbard’s writings seems to be a study of the control many have to deal with because of painful experiences and imbedded thoughts.

The Scientologists deal a lot with this concept. L. Ron Hubbard taught that many painful experiences are recorded in the reactive mind (non thinking mind) as engrams. These engrams are like powerful hypnotic suggestions that can exercise great control over the average individual.

The great part is that for a zillion dollars they can remove all your engrams and take you to a super human state they call “clear.” After reading his book on Dianetics you would think a clear could walk on water as well as be as flawlessly logical as Spock from Star Trek.

Some famous people like Tom Cruz, John Travolta and Kirsty Alley are Scientologists, but I first became suspicious of their claims when I met my first clear while I was visiting one of their centers. As we were talking I noticed that the guy was smoking a cigarette so I asked him why someone who is clear would smoke since it does not seem to be a logical thing to do.

He then told me with a straight face that a clear can smoke and not be hurt by it for the bad stuff will just pass through his system.

“I’ll check with you in another thirty years,” I thought to myself.

Even though this guy was obviously in great illusion it is true that the removal of engrams can have some benefit for the astrally polarized person, but what the Scientologists do not realize is that soul consciousness can eliminate most of the problems created by engrams, and the financial cost is zero.

He who has firm soul contact can resister the effects of engrams, prayers, influences and then let them pass through him and dissipate into the ethers.

Any time you do not feel free it is because some knowledge is lacking for “you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free,” as the Master said.

If we ‘seek first the kingdom of God,” as Jesus also said, “then all things will be added.” This includes a release from engrams and all unwanted influences from painful childhood experiences through soul contact.

There seems to be a lot of concern about finding the ideal romantic partner. Travis expressed a healthy attitude about this: “At the moment I’m approaching it such that I will accept it if it happens, but if it doesn’t, oh well I’ll do it later, no rush.”

It seems that many people with this relaxed attitude find what they want faster than he who aggressively seeks it. I would like to emphasize the benefit of this attitude for you do not need a romantic partner to be a full participant in the molecule. In the Kingdom of God no person is denied any participation because of circumstances beyond his control. He can only deny himself because of unwillingness to take needed steps.

It is better to wait and find the right romantic partner than to rush and get the wrong one. If perchance you marry a person of standard interests the chances are that he will fight you tooth and nail to frustrate your participation of spiritual endeavors.

When the time is right a good romantic partner will come into your life. In the meantime, as far as the Molecular Relationship goes, a working non romantic partner will work much better than a spouse who does not support you.

Even though we are not ready to form a working molecule here yet group members without a suitable partner who are interested should be keeping an eye out for a working partner in the group. When a working partner is chosen he or she can be exchanged for another at any time, so you are not making any long term commitment here. In fact, the only commitment you make is to follow the soul together which is basically the commitment of all disciples.

Some working partnerships will turn romantic, others will just stay on a friendship level and still others will not be that harmonious and some rearrangements will be made.

Jean asks:

“J.J, I too have a question for you…what do you think of the “visitations of Mary” as in Medjgorie, Fatima, and Lourdes? How does all of that fit in all this?”

Almost all of the visits of famous spiritual people from the past are illusions created by thoughtforms.

Let us take Mary and Jesus for example. Millions of people at any given moment around the globe are pouring astral energy toward these two entities and these thoughts and feelings sent forth create real images of these two that wander the earth speaking platitudes to whoever catches a glimpse of them with astral vision.

These thoughtforms which can seem real to the beginner do not have the consciousness of the original and will never teach new principles as the real Christ would.

I have met quite a few people who claim to have seen Jesus and I always ask what Jesus said to them. This astral Jesus always speaks in nice sounding phrases that we have heard before like: “be kind to everyone you meet.” “You have a great mission in life.” “The meek will inherit the earth,” or something like that which brings no additional light over what is already in the Bible.

A true master will contact the disciple on the physical or higher mental through telepathy or the science of impression.

We as a group will create thoughtforms of masters, but not be deceived by them for the intentional creation of a thought form of a Master can actually draw the consciousness of the Master into the thoughtform if the group is ready for revelation. Even if the group is not ready group soul energy can vitalize the thoughtform and bring forth some higher knowledge and energy.

The main way to recognize real higher contact is through soul contact. The disciple also needs to look at the quality of the revelation to see if it goes beyond that which could be easily made up by the creative mind.

The Three Levels of Mastery

June 6, 2017

The Three Levels of Mastery

Every once in a while we ought to go back to our religious roots and reach out to our friends there and extend a life saving branch for them to grab to give them a chance to move on to higher ground.

One of the big problems there holding them back is the idea of salvation, for seeking it takes them a step forward and then just leaves them there when they have many more steps to go.

Evangelicals have a particularly easy salvation. All they have to do is accept the right version of Jesus and believe. Then they feel their salvation is secure.

The Mormons, Seventh Day Adventists, Jehovah witnesses and others believe that faith without works is dead and that you need to show both faith and works to achieve salvation.

But even the religions that require works miss out on seeing the big picture and how much we really need to attain in order to secure liberation from this material world that holds us bound.

Among standard Christian religions, perhaps the Mormons have the most hoops to jump through to achieve their end desire of, not only salvation, but exaltation and onwards to the path of becoming gods.

But even here the injunction is the same as many other religions which merely boils down to “obey all the commandments of God.”

For a Mormon this means the member is to obey the Ten Commandments, love your neighbor, obey all the injunctions in the scriptures, pay tithing, secure a temple recommend, and finally whatever the prophet and General Authorities tell you to do.

They go a few steps beyond the “believe and be saved” crowd, but the end result is the same. After they meet all the requirements for the highest heaven they can then relax, thinking their salvation is secure.

The true seeker may at this point ask – what is the real truth here? After I do all I can do to become a good person and obedient follower – am I done? Or is it possible that more will be required?

Indeed there is more and the scriptures highlight an important end result that must be achieved before we are liberated from this lower world so we have the liberty of going “no more out” of the heavenly realms unless we want to.

The end result that must be accomplished is the overcoming of all things. Here are several scriptures from the Bible on this:

“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.” Rev 2:7

“He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.” Rev 2:17

“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.“ Rev 3:5

“Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: (does not have to reincarnate) and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.” Rev 3:12

“To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.” Rev 3:21

That last one gives an interesting wording telling us that we must overcome the same way that Christ did and in the one life of which we have a record we see that he accomplished what he did after making a great effort.

Now, the LDS scriptures are in harmony with the Bible here:

“And are priests of the Most High, after the order of Melchizedek, which was after the order of Enoch, which was after the order of the Only Begotten Son. Wherefore, as it is written, they are gods, even the sons of God– Wherefore, all things are theirs, whether life or death, or things present, or things to come, all are theirs and they are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s. And they shall overcome all things.” D&C 76:57-60

“And he who is faithful shall overcome all things” D&C 75:16

“He that is faithful and endureth shall overcome the world.” D&C 63:47

It is interesting that the scriptures place a great emphasis on overcoming, yet you never hear a sermon on the subject. Instead, we are just told to yield to Jesus who did all the overcoming for us.

BUT… that is not what the scriptures say. Instead of just taking the lazy man’s way and letting George or Jesus do it, we are told that we are to follow in the steps of Christ and overcome just as he did.

Now the LDS have a very enlighten scripture that points them in the right direction, yet largely ignored. It reads:

“For behold, it is not meet that I should command in all things; for he that is compelled in all things, the same is a slothful and not a wise servant; wherefore he receiveth no reward.

“Verily, I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness; For the power is in them, wherein they are agents unto themselves. And inasmuch as men do good they shall in nowise lose their reward.

“But he that doeth not anything until he is commanded, and receiveth a commandment with doubtful heart, and keepeth it with slothfulness, the same is damned.” D&C 58:26-29

So here we are clearly told that just obeying commandments like a walking computer program is not enough. There is a power in us that must be accessed of our own free will to bring to pass much righteousness.

So what is it that we must overcome if we are to follow in the footsteps of the Master? To understand perhaps we should examine that which he overcame shortly before his Transfiguration on the Mount.

Let us take a look:

“Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

“Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

“Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

“Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.” Matt 4:1-11

These three temptations illustrate three levels of mastery, or overcoming, by Jesus to which each of us must also eventually attain. Few who think they have secured salvation for themselves are close to this necessary accomplishment.

The First Level

Let us take a look. The Devil, representing the lower nature of Jesus, first approached him during extreme hunger and suggested he turn stones into bread.

After 40 days without eating it seemed from one angle entirely appropriate to use his divine power to satisfy the physical appetite. Then he realized that more important than satisfying the physical appetite is to feast on the words of God, or the Spirit. The Spirit brings eternal satisfaction whereas that which feeds the physical appetite is temporary and must be fed regularly.

The overcoming represented in this first temptation is the mastery that we must obtain over the physical desires and appetites. Most of the commandments in the scriptures of all religions are centered around guiding the pilgrim toward this mastery.

Religions have a lot of commandments and regulations centered on the sex nature. The basic one is to be faithful to your companion and many seekers face great temptation here when placed in the right circumstances with a very attractive or exciting person.

On top of this many religions have additional restrictions that must be imposed on the sex urge that requires significant self control from the member.

Numerous religions impose additional restrictions on food and drink which are related to the most basic physical desire of all, hunger and thirst.

Mormons command their members to not drink alcohol, tea, coffee or smoke. Others require a vegetarian diet or Islam and the Jews require a restricted diet. Many have some type of fasting or partial fasting days.

These various commandments all guide the seeker towards mastery of the physical appetites, his first great overcoming. This mastery though is not achieved in full by merely obeying outward commandments, but the final overcoming of the appetites occur when the aspiring disciple takes control, through his own initiative, and tests himself until he knows where he is, related to this path.

The Second Level

The second level of overcoming is represented in the second temptation:

“Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

So, when the disciple overcomes the appetites and all that appeals to the senses what is next? In most religions that about covers it and the person is ready for salvation, but we see here that this is only the first step. In this account we see that Satan moved on to another category of temptation that places a barrier between the seeker and the real world of Spirit.

To what did the temptation appeal to in Jesus when he considered throwing himself off the pinnacle of the temple for all to see?

Right. His ego. If he jumped from the tallest part of the temple and landed safely for all to see then the people would recognize his greatness and immediately listen to him. Such a demonstration would make his work much easier and it would be uncomplicated to convince people he was the Messiah.

Also his ego would immediately get the praise and recognition that it seemed to deserve.

Note that in this temptation Satan tempted him with the scriptures and a literal interpretation thereof. He need not worry about falling from the temple for angels would protect the Messiah.

Jesus was thus tempted to feed and glorify the ego, the false part of himself rather than focusing on the glory of God. He overcame this deceptive use of scripture with pure reason and a counter scripture:

It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

How would such an act tempt God?

Jesus was promised protection until his mission was completed, but it is contrary to the will of heaven to use spiritual powers to glorify the ego. Therefore this act of self-glorification would put God in an awkward situation. If Jesus jumped from the temple and died it would seem that God could not have fulfilled his promise of protection. On the other hand, if Jesus was saved by the power God, then we have God glorifying the ego which runs contrary to his will.

Jesus jumping from the temple would have placed God in a situation where he would have been tempted to break his own promise. This was indeed a cunning temptation created by the Adversary.

Fortunately, Jesus saw through this deception and refused to place the promises of God in a no win situation.

In doing this he demonstrated mastery of the ego.

Many there are who have mastered the pull of the appetites and give of their money but still have not conquered the ego.

The ego tells us how important we are and that we must take steps to let friends, associates and the world know of our specialness.

Just as Jesus was tempted to let everyone know how special he was through a great miracle the ego of the typical spiritually minded person loves to glorify itself by letting others know how wonderful he is.

Making such an attempt is called a glamour.

These glamours are often very subtle. The seeker may even project a false humility so his ego can receive praise for humility from his peers.

Many glamours clamor for attention among the religious and spiritually minded people . Here are a few out of many:

  • He lets others know that he has been saved.
  • He broadcasts to all who will listen of a special relationship he has with God or Jesus.
  • He lets others know how righteous he is or how much he contributes to the church.
  • He projects the image of having the perfect marriage or family.
  • He broadcasts his spiritual experiences
  • He broadcasts his talents, seeking praise for them.

If you are a good or talented person people will find out about it naturally, but the one who is deceived by glamour will broadcast his virtues and abilities in such a way that the ego is fed which puts a cloud between the seeker and the Spirit of truth.

The true disciple must carefully examine his life and motives and one by one eliminate all the subtle ways that he has been feeding the ego,

His glamours may even be associated with a literal, but wrong interpretation of the scriptures as Jesus was tempted to accept.

It is a very natural thing to want to feel important. The key here is to make important contributions and let them speak for themselves. That will produce the greatest satisfaction. All attempts at self-glorification backfire in the end and the ego’s attempts to broadcast them must be put in its correct place.

The problem with these glamours is that those who are deceived the most by them see them the least and will generally feel they have the ego under control. It often takes a personal revelation before they are all seen and mastered.

The Third Level

Those disciples who have mastered the appetites as well as the ego still have a great hurdle to overcome as illustrated by the third temptation:

“Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

“Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.” Matt 4:1-11

Students do not understand what it was that supplied the real temptation to Jesus in this situation. Most figure that the obtaining of the kingdoms of the world appealed to his ego – that he was tempted to bask in the glory and praise of the world.

But, he mastered the ego in the second temptation. He who has mastered the ego would not be tempted to be a ruler like Caesar to merely satisfy a feeling of importance.

Once a disciple has mastered the appetites, the pull of matter and the ego his main goal will then be to concentrate on a labor that will be helpful for humanity to progress. What is the most frustrating thing for disciples who feel they have an important message or work to share?

The frustration is that many consider it a huge handicap that they do not have more power in the world to draw attention to their labor. Thoughts go through their minds, such as:

  • Wouldn’t it be great if I won the lottery? Then I would have the time and money to really accomplish something.
  • If I were president or an important leader then I could have the influence to cause people to see truth the way I do.
  • If I knew the right people or had friends in high places then I could really accomplish something.

The seeker who has advanced to this third level could be considered a very fine individual by regular moral standards. He has self-control, is faithful to his companions and beliefs, has overcome the ego and always has good intentions. He doesn’t want power for himself or his ego, but wants it so he can be a more powerful servant to others.

Even so, Jesus did not want to be a Caesar for the glory of the world, but as he contemplated his mission he also gave much thought as to how to go about convincing people he was the true Messiah. After all, there had been many before him who had made such claims. How was he going to succeed in convincing people when others had failed?

Just like many good seekers today want power so they can do good, this direction crossed through the mind of Jesus to the extent that he was tempted by it. And a real temptation it was because he knew he had the power of God with him and the ability to to obtain great power in the kingdoms of the world. He realized he could tread a path that would give him more power than Caesar. Then, of course, he imagined all the good things he could do with that power. With his abilities it would seem that he could manifest the kingdom of God on the earth.

The situation would be like you and me wishing we could be president and make some constructive changes, except in the case of Jesus he really had the ability to obtain great power in the world. This made his temptation much more vivid than the disciple with good intentions daydreaming about desirable circumstances.

What was the flaw that was at the root of this temptation? It was not immorality, the ego or glamour. It was something more subtle. It was caused by a trick that captivates the minds of all people now and then, called illusion.

The temptation came because the mind of Jesus considered that the most logical use of his abilities was to gain power in the world and then use that power for good.

Fortunately, after contemplating the options Jesus saw the truth behind this illusion.

He realized that a Caesar would not attract the true spiritually minded people that he would need. Secondly, he would establish a base of power that would eventually be taken over by others and corrupted. Thirdly Jesus would loose some of his focus on the power of the Spirit by pursuing earthly power.

He rejected the illusion and decided to place all his focus on the realm of Spirit and that if he did this his mission would be successful.

We as seekers of a higher way are also beset with many illusions. They are like blind spots to disciples and very difficult to see until the ego is mastered. When the ego is mastered the person will draw in additional light that is thrown upon all his thinking. Through contemplation he will unravel illusion after illusion until he can finally see truth as it is.

Two people who have overcome these three temptations will see eye to eye on all basic principles.

Is this the end of the journey then?

No. It is just the beginning of a greater one where the disciple finds there is still much more to overcome on many different levels. Remember that overcoming these three temptations was the beginning, not the end of the mission of Christ.

McCall Gathering, 2007, Part 22

This entry is part 22 of 54 in the series McCall Gathering 2007

A Unique Universe

Audience: I have a theory, in the mental health field there is a diagnosis called sociopath, my theory has been that the sociopath is not connected with their golden thread anymore and they have completely severed their connection and are no longer connected to the collective consciousness of human beings and that is why they are able to commit their atrocities. If this theory is correct than is that a sign that they are on the dark path or are they truly a dark brother walking amongst us?

JJ: It could be except a sociopath often lacks an understanding of what they are doing and it is more of an illness. I think some of them still have the thread that will eventually be re-established. A person can be temporarily be disconnected from the soul for a lifetime and then re-establish the connection in a future life. What makes a dark brother different is that he sees the two paths for he has to be a fairly advanced soul before he can even choose the dark path, Like Hitler chose the dark path and he was a very intelligent person, a second degree initiate, so he was fairly high there.

He had the birth of the Christ within at one time in his past and he had worked to overcome glamour and then he misused the plane of the mind and that is why he used the mind to teach the Nazis to overlook all compassion. Do not have compassion for these people because that will be our downfall, and so the whole of Nazism operated on the ideal of no compassion. The true dark brother chooses the path and he knows what he is doing and Hitler knew what he was doing. A typical sociopath is not advanced enough to make the choice necessary to be a dark brother and must be healed and come back several times before he can even make the choice.

Audience Larry: On the life of the soul, you wrote an article on someone who really did not have a life living in primitive circumstances.

JJ: Was that the book I started and never finished on the progression of the soul from self-consciousness to initiation?

Audience Larry: Yes it was on the progression of the soul and I would like you to finish that one. My point is that everyone at some point is very early in the life of the soul, and at that point they are almost like the sociopath and have little empathy or sympathy for anyone, they are like a very young child that does not understand these things yet. They could hurt someone and laugh because they have no concept of these situations. Some of these people we call sociopaths, evil or whatever, they will come along and if they want something then they will kill someone and take it not thinking about it. A lot of times this person is far down on the evolutionary scale,

Audience member: Yes but their intelligence is high.

Audience Larry: Yes their intelligence is high but intelligence is not sympathy or empathy and those are learned through experiencing life.

JJ: And this is an interesting point, all of us go through a period of extreme selfishness that lasts for a number of lifetimes in our evolution. If you are not selfish now then you probably were in a past series of previous lifetimes. What this process of selfishness teaches us is that selfishness does not bring us happiness. So we have to go through selfishness until we reach the bottom of selfishness and then when we reach that point we have to ask ourselves the question of do I want to continue on this path and is this working for me? Some people will go off the path and then come back on and it is very difficult to get off the path of selfishness but most of us accomplish this after many struggles.

Audience: Some people refer to the selfish nature as the reptilian part of your brain.

JJ: Many seekers, when they see someone in that mode they will say that they are on the dark side. Most of these people are not on the dark side, but are going through that selfish point in their evolution and they will eventually come back around to the path of light and group consciousness.

Audience: Most people do learn when they experience pain and suffering and begin to pick up empathy but some other people instead of picking up empathy say that they have just not perfected their focus to get what they want.

JJ: That is a good point, they will say that they are just not selfish enough and I have to use my selfishness with more ingenuity and I will be happy. Then there are those who go off the path of selfishness like Hitler and move up to the second initiation and the selfishness was never completely conquered in his mind. He read all kinds of philosophies and developed a mental philosophy in his mind that pure selfishness was the answer to what he needed to accomplish and so he did everything he could to undermine all the work of the soul.

Audience: I have a difficult question to ask. So we have these forms, our physical, emotional and mental forms which are all surrounded by illusion, but then we have the eternal essence of ourselves which is the power of choice. It is our agency to decide, and our soul and in that realm is our reality yet for some reason that is the enduring part of us but we only have a strand or golden thread to it. We talk about the selfishness of people and that ultimately the soul will reach out and bring us back. If that is our essence and who we truly are then why is it that we have such a difficult time removing or casting off the illusions and contacting our true self? You talk about selfishness and the soul is always reaching out to them and trying to bring them back. Why is the link so fragile and why is it not the rushing of waters because that is really who we are.

JJ: Do you play the piano?

Audience: Just a little bit.

JJ: Tell me something you cannot do. Tell me something that you could not do at all if someone asked you to.

Audience: Calculus

JJ: You have within you the seed of intelligence to be an Einstein in calculus. But you have never done it before. So you just cannot come and have the calculus thread connected which can give you the ability to be a master of it. This can just not happen overnight because you have not mastered calculus in all your history of past lives – so you are starting fresh but within you have the seed for being an Einstein in math. If you decide that you want to make that connection with yourself that will cause you to develop all these abilities and it will take a period of time to master, but if you put your attention on it you will accomplish it.

Now it is true we have a connection with God that has unlimited potential, but the spark of God has never come down mastered through you in physical existence, so you are like a baby just learning here and it takes a long period of time for us to go from scratch in our learning to mastering everything. The spark is within and has potential for us to do anything we decide to do and be anything we decide to be but we have never done this before. It is like in the Book of Revelation; it says “I create a new heaven and a new Earth behold I do all things new.”

That which has never been before will be called into being. In other words, the life of God through us and through the universe is to always be doing new things. Concerning this universe that we are in now – there has never been a universe like it in the history of eternity.

This is a universe that is unlike any others and there have probably been billions of them in existence in the past. This one is totally different, and why is it different? It is new because the life of God wants new challenges, and that is what gives us joy – having challenges and mastering them.

Visualize God when He created this universe and He thought, well the last universe I mastered was tough but was fun to do. I did not think I was going to get out of that one because it was a really difficult but now I have mastered it and I cannot do the same thing over so I am going to create a more complex one and this one is going to be even harder to master. I have to let the old one go and then create a new universe all over again.

So each time God creates a new universe He does it with additional complications to make it interesting. When we play a game do we want to play a game where we win all the time? Monopoly is a great game because it has tremendous pitfalls. You can loose everything in one move and then in another move you can gain everything and it is really a good example of how life works. Life is like this. So God created this universe and you are part of the creation. Your job is to come down and enliven the spark of God within you and master everything within your sphere and what you are doing is different than any other being in the entire universe; your problems are unique to you.

As each one of us look over our lives we can all see this. No one has lived a life exactly like I have lived, thank God, and nobody has live life exactly the way that Susan has lived. We all have our complications and it is our job to solve them and solving them is what makes life interesting. We do not want to play a game unless there is tension. The greatest game that the Boise State Broncos played was the Fiesta Bowl in 2007. How many of you saw this? You saw it Larry. That was a pretty good game, wasn’t it?

There we were, the underdog and we had never played a team of this caliber before and there were on national TV and were ahead by several touchdowns and then we had a fluke turnover happen and got behind and it looked like we had lost the game. Then in the last 20 seconds we scored a touchdown that took the game into overtime. The overtime lead to a two-point conversion and by hook and lateral play, a very inventive play and we pulled it off. At a tremendous risk pulled the victory out of the hat and I will tell you Boise has never been so thrilled, the whole city was celebrating! Those guys came home and they were like the biggest heroes you had ever seen. We not only beat Oklahoma, but we beat them in the last 20 seconds! That point of tension caused everyone in Boise to feel good about their life for a month or two. If you met someone in a grocery store they would go, oh did you see that game? Go Broncos! Even people that did like football were excited.

It was a great game because it was tough, it was really hard. John Kennedy said, we were going to moon, not because it is easy but because it is hard. You do not hear a politician make that statement anymore. If Bush were to say that now than people would look at him and say, you know that Bush was as stupid as I thought he was. But Kennedy said this in a way that got to us and when we landed on the moon we were celebrating! It was like Boise winning that Fiesta Bowl, it was a great feeling!

Audience: I do not know Tyler if this might shed some light on what you asked but I have been thinking about what you said and I have had one or two experiences where I felt like I was really connected to something higher spiritually and you asked why is our connection so tenuous and why is it not like a rushing water. I really think that at least for me and where I am at right now that if I had a really strong continuous connection with that spirit, it would almost take away my ability to have free will because it is so overpowering, it is so,

Audience member: It would be so easy to just sit there and wallow in it and enjoy it.

Audience: Exactly, I think it would take away my ability to make decisions because I would be overwhelmed with the pure joy and delight of it, so maybe that is the reason that our connection is tenuous because if it were not than our ability to experience and grow and make decisions and do all the things that we are here to do would be some how overpowered by that.

Audience: I think it is like when baby is born and grows and begins to use muscles and build them up. Our spiritual connection is like a muscle and the more you use it the stronger it gets. The stronger it gets the more you begin to know the joy of that muscle and all that it can do and I think that through free will we choose to build the muscle and when not, and as you get stronger and stronger you find that you do not have to work out all the time and you balance that. I think it is the same thing with spirit, it builds like a muscle and just like you get to the point where you want you physical body in good shape you want your spiritual connection to be solid, continuous and always present because that way it becomes who you are just like your muscles in your body become the machinery that you are working in. You can fine-tune your machine so that it is not holding you back from doing what you want it to do. In turn allowing you more freedom to do more and grow and the time, attention and focus is what allows that allows that growth to take place.

JJ: Yes and when it does take place then you feel a really great sense of accomplishment and if it were easy than you would not feel this sense of accomplishment.

Audience: And you get so used to it that it becomes a part of you are that is it is turned off or shuts down then you feel alone and lonely because you are used to having that connection and it becomes who you are.

Audience: The nature of all this as I understand it is to master the spirit in the physical, to bring the duality into one eventually and thus completing one task so that we may take on another.

JJ: Master the spirit and conquer the flesh so to speak.

Audience: This is a good teaching environment.

Audience: maybe God knows that we are more capable of what we are than we do and pushes us to achieve more.

Audience: If you want to teach somebody something you want the right environment for him or her so that they can teach through trial and error from experiencing the lesson first hand master the ability to the greatest extent that they can. And so if we had an environment that was easy then how would we master anything and how much growth would take place? If we have an environment that is complex and with multiple choices and multiple sides of illusion so that the more choices we have then the more diversity and discernment and choice, the chances that we are given so that we can get good at it, the environment has to be conducive so that we get the maximum learning potential from it. What we came to learn was not easy so why would we have an easy environment to do it in.

JJ: It is a little bit like basic training. You could say that we are in basic training right now. Basic training is hard so that you will be successful in the end.

Audience: Why call it hard? Just try to understand it. Just simply understand that there is this difference.

JJ: In basic training if you understand it, it still hurts.

Audience: Laughter. It is like you said earlier, God made it hard on purpose, and if I understand you correctly that He has made this so hard that there is the potential that He will not win at this game.

JJ: Yes, He can lose a number of times but the Spirit is eternal and eventually finds a way to succeed. The more difficult it is the more driven we become.

Maya, Glamour and Illusion

Maya, Glamour and Illusion

What is the difference between glamour and illusion? What is the difference in the way that illusion and glamour keep us from the truth?

A tip or two picked up here and rightly incorporated may save as many as a half dozen lives on the way to liberation. Even saving five years of wasted time should warrant some attention. Then every once in a while a person takes the dark path and throws away approximately 1000 lifetimes and the pralaya between creations. When the Dark Brother chooses his path he does so in full awareness making a definite decision, so if you or anyone you know still has even the slightest desire to help your brother or sister then you have not committed the unpardonable sin.

We know that Hitler was greatly deceived. Was he fooled by all three deceptions, two of them or just one? Pick the deception that you think caused him the greatest problem and tell us why this is so.

As we enter into areas of new understanding we enter into the possibility of inner joy through learning which can actually verified by the soul, On the other hand, we also approach a field where there can be inner resistance and some new terms which may seem complicated at first, but later will make all things clearer.

When I started teaching here I considered the most important thing I could share with the group. The answer was easy. That is anything I could do to enhance and clarify the soul contact of others would be a valuable service. Actually presenting a teaching that may stimulate that contact is the difficult part.

The three deceptions are not that complicated. It is important, however, that you understand them well enough so you can explain them in your own words without quoting some other teaching.

The first is Maya and you must pass through this deception before you can go on to the second which is glamour. Then you must pass through glamour before you can unravel deception.

Maya is distortion caused by the pull of matter, which matter has a magnetic pull on us in a direction away from the Christ consciousness. All the carnal sins mentioned in the scriptures are associated with this first deception and the commandments given to us (the Ten Commandments, for instance) through prophets are for the purpose of giving us the discipline over Maya so we can center our consciousness on the next step.

The most important function of the churches of the world is to teach infant seekers the discipline to control their physical impulses so they are directed toward an intelligent end.

Now the churches a are not very intelligent teachers because their ministers only have a vague idea of the true course they are supposed to be presenting, but the wise student will also learn directly from the scriptures where the church directs their attention. Thus the good students learn their lessons and eventually graduate despite the clumsy teachers

Those who overcome Maya have basically learned to direct their physical impulses and appetites toward a constructive and harmless end. Among other things they learn the correct use of sexual energy, diet, taking good care of the body and the management of some stress.

Glamour

The second obstacle: Glamour. Glamour could be defined as an emotional energy used by the ego to inflate a feeling of self-importance we have about a thought process or activity we are engaged in.

Let us say, for instance, that we as members of this group started feeling an inflated importance merely because we are fortunate enough to be here. Maybe we discuss philosophy with outsiders or new members and we automatically feel superior because of our special knowledge. This is a glamour and I am happy to say that if the group is displaying any glamour as of late it is the “glamour of being on the lowest rung of the ladder.”

Your postings remind me of a parable of Jesus:

And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them, When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. Luke 14:7-11

It sounds like most of you deserve to be exalted for your humility.

Keep vigilant though there is the glamour of false humility, but I do not detect that among you.

The third deception is illusion and is the most difficult to grasp because only more advanced humanity are even able to reach this deception and have power to analyze it and destroy it. Much that has been pinpointed by the group as an illusion is really a glamour. An illusion is an incorrect idea or premise at the foundation of a belief system and can trap some very intelligent people.

An illusion held by fundamentalists Christians is that God made the earth in six days and the age of the earth is around 6000 years. If you go to their web pages you will see some extremely intelligent reasoning beginning with and using this premise. They even have an interesting explanation as to how light from galaxies 13 billion light years away got here in less than six thousand years. This illusion they are in colors every piece of science that is presented to them so they cannot see the truth of many things in certain areas.

Take them away from their illusion and place them in a situation non-religious or non scientific like business and they do just as well as the next guy. This is because their illusion does not usually carry over to business and here they allow themselves to use common sense.

The average Creationist is attracted to their illusion because of glamour which sustains the mark of the Beast. To unravel this illusion they must dispel the fog of glamour and eventually see the illusion which is the foundation of their problem.

Illusion

To believe only in the Brotherhood of Light and not the Dark Brothers is to believe you can clap with one hand.

Just as the appearance of Christ, Buddha and other teachers is evidence of a Brotherhood of Light so too is the appearance of Hitler, Stalin and Nero evidence of the Dark ones.

Dark Brothers have definitely appeared in history and when they have died they did not go into extinction. They went unto their own place with their own kind and continue to work on the side of selfishness.

It is dangerous to think we can stay positive by avoiding discussions about negative energies and people. He who denies the existence of a truth on the negative side creates a vacuum that draws the darkness unto him. Darkness is always dispelled by shining light upon it. When we discuss the Dark Brothers in the light of day and shine the light of truth upon them we destroy their power.

If one overcomes Maya that does not mean he ceases to enjoy good food, sex and rock and roll. But it does mean that he is the master of this energy and the energy is not the master of him.

If there were some purpose to abstain from sex for three years, fast for a week or change diet for then one who has overcome Maya could do this. If there is no reason to abstain then he would be privileged to enjoy the pleasures of the flesh as much as the next guy as long as the principle of harmlessness is followed.

A person may have basically overcome Maya on one life and then slip back into its trap in another. Cigarettes are an example of one of the most powerful forces of Maya. If you can quit smoking after having the habit for years the rest of Maya should be downhill for you.

The solving of illusion holds the key to placing Maya and glamour in their right place and not the other way around.

It is true that Hitler manipulated the forces of Maya and glamour to further his purposes, but that does not mean he was deceived by them.

Hitler was a strict vegetarian, did not smoke, and believed in sexual purity, solid family relationships. He was a master of Maya as well as mayhem.

It is true he had a great temper and strong solar plexus activity, but so too do the advanced brothers of light have powerful forces to deal with in all the lower centers. Thus this is not a sign that Hitler had glamours.

His followers had tremendous glamour and Hitler consciously manipulated glamour among his people, but many of the glamours that affect the regular guy had little pull on him.

That leaves one deception left illusion. What illusion caused Hitler to fight against the Jews? What illusion caused him to start the War?

I will say this. Hitler’s self-deception was founded in the various philosophies which he adopted. Some were from the Bible, some were directly revealed from the Dark Brothers, some from esoteric writings, some from Nietzche and some from his own reflection.

Hitler did not hate the Jews on a personal level so much as he intellectually concluded that the Jewish race as a whole was evil and the earth would be much better off without them. To him it was like killing a cancer to save the body.

Some of the Aryan Nations groups have a philosophy toward the Jews very similar to Hitler’s and even think of him as a hero right up there with Jesus.

They believe that the deadly wound of the Beast that was healed when Hitler made war on the Jews and lost.

All this is great illusion, but illusion is logical to those caught in it and the only way to expose it is to understand it.

Again I ask -what Philosophy could Hitler possibly have had that would have made him think the Jews were the Satan of the World?

Hint: Revelations 3:9

Some may question the use of Hitler as an example of illusion but Hitler is a great example of a dangerous illusion. A good illusion is more dangerous than glamour for the masses never understand it.

A reader asked, “What good does it do us on this list to expose the illusion Hitler was under? In what way are we going to be better for understanding Hitler’s illusion?”

Answer: To my knowledge the principle of illusion has never been explained so average seekers can understand it, yet it is the final block to full soul contact. If I can lead just one person to greater contact then that produces a tremendous benefit because each person who reaches this level influences many people for good.

“Are there other examples not quite as outrageous as Hitler that we might be able to understand just as well?”

Answer: The advantage of using Hitler is that all in the group are somewhat familiar with him and we all agree he was a bad guy who was deceived. If I were to use either Bill Clinton or Newt Gingrich as an example of illusion then I would get half the list irritated at me and many would close their minds. The problem is that any illusion we unravel will strike a nerve in about half the people so it is best to use an example that we all at least agree to be against.

To find an example of illusion that creates great harm to illustrate its dangers and identify its reality you have to pick on a person of fairly high evolution who furthered the cause of the left hand path and there are not many who are well known that we can choose from. Someone like Jimmy Swaggart, for example, was deceived mostly by glamour and would not be a good example. Many who you may think to be examples of illusion are merely examples of Maya and glamour.

“Where is all this leading us to?”

This is leading to an understanding what glamour and illusion are and the difference between the two so the seekers can begin to unravel the deception in their own lives and open the door to greater inflow of soul energy and receive greater understanding. This is crucial to our totally eliminating the mark of the Beast in our lives.

I was asked about soulless people.

I believe that what some of you are calling soulless people are in two categories:

(1) Those who have rejected the soul and thus receive little or no spiritual energy in their lives. These people are usually of the very selfish type.

(2) Those who have taken too many drugs, have a great illness or accident and thus the soul energy withdraws a large portion of consciousness. The person’s soul still exists, but the higher self has withdrawn to its own plane.

The Search for Unity

This entry is part 14 of 34 in the series 2011C

Blayne basically ponders this thought:
There are about 7 billion people in the world yet after all this time there just doesn’t seem to be 24 people on the planet who have enough soul contact to create the unity to forge even one molecule. He has received a taste of what spiritual unity feels like and it seems frustrating that there does not seem to be people available for the consistent unity required of a working molecule. Is there any hope for this generation or is the day of spiritual power yet a hundred years or more in the future?

JJ
I share your frustration. I first received the revelation on the Molecular Relationship around 1979 and have been searching for the first 24 ever since. Like you, when I found good prospects for unity, a dark force seemed to enter the picture and hamper progress.

Even with all the difficulties I am convinced that there is enough good people out there to not form one molecule, but many of them. One of the problems is this. Some of the most advanced souls out there have very strong belief systems and when others in a group veer off from that, unity becomes difficult, if not impossible. It may be quite possible that a number of those in the first molecule may not be that advanced in learning and thus not have their minds cluttered up with too much data to prevent unity.

Of course, it would be most desirable to have all 24 be advanced souls who can tune into the soul at the drop of a hat to solve the differences that arise, but this is the type of disciple that is sadly rare in this present world.

Let me give you an example concerning one of our most cherished and beloved members who passed away a few years ago. I’m talking about Glenys.

Glenys was very enthused about the teachings and the prospects of being in a molecule, or creating one. Everyone on the group admired her and many felt that if there was anyone that was prepared to join a molecule then it was her. In addition she was a devoted student of the Alice A. Bailey writings and other metaphysical works.

She not only posted regularly but wrote me privately quite often. In one of her letters she informed me that her best friend had taken ill and was in danger of dying. She felt that she would be devastated if she lost her and told me that after much meditation she was sure she would recover and asked me to tune into her and see what I would receive – hoping I could add some energy to her recovery.

I did my best to comply and was somewhat surprised to receive a message through my soul that her friend’s time had come – that she had work to do on the other side. I get messages like this now and then but often I get nothing one way or another so don’t expect me to produce physic impressions on demand. I have found though that when I do get a message that there is some greater purpose than the mere information involved.

I debated over whether to tell Glenys and then decided to do so. I told her that I had received a message that her friend would be taken and the best thing to do was to make her passing as pleasant as possible and prepare herself for the loss in the physical. I then told her that her friend would still be close to her spiritually if she tuned in to her.

She was then somewhat upset with me and insisted my message was wrong for she had received a message that it was her friend’s destiny to live.

Unfortunately, a few weeks later her friend died. I did my best to console her and in midst of the exchange of private emails I received the reason I had been told of her friend’s impending death. I then explained it to her. I told her that the reason I had been given such a jolting revelation was to get her attention and establish me as an earned authority in her independent mind. This was necessary because the time would come in the not too distant future that she would doubt me again. I told her that when this time comes that I would remind her that she was wrong about her friend and should have considered my words. I told her the next time we have a similar disagreement it will be important that she consider what I say and verify it through the soul.

I had no idea what conflict was coming that this set the stage for, but I knew something was on its way.

I did not have to wait for long as a short time later Glenys developed cancer, starting in her sinus area. This time I didn’t get any impression as to whether she would live or die but did my best to offer her encouragement. All the Keys members were very concerned for her and sent her their prayers but she slowly got worse.

Then, one day she sent me an email asking for my opinion as to the root cause of her cancer and what she could do.

I contemplated the answer and received an impression and sensed that the answer was not something she wanted to hear. I wrote her back and told her I was reluctant to give her my answer for she may not like it.

She basically told me she was a big girl and could handle anything I would dish out.

I wrote her again and told her I would only give her my answer if she would assure me she would look at it dispassionately and not take offense.

She assured me that would be no problem.

I then wrote her back and explained as honestly and clearly as I could that the core problem that caused her cancer was a martyr complex that caused negative suppressed feelings to take root and express themselves as cancer. If she wanted to be cured she had to search herself with all honesty and find the cause of the martyr feeling, face it and remove it. I told her this would be difficult because denial is usually involved and she probably does not see this in herself. It would take all her strength in keeping her mind steady in the light to accomplish this.

I anticipated this answer would be difficult for her to take but not the intensity. She responded with extreme outrage. I can’t remember the exact words but the message was something like this:

How dare you accuse me of having a martyr complex! I am about a million miles away from this and everyone who knows me is aware of this except you. Where you got such an idea is a mystery indeed. And I do not suppress emotion – I let people know exactly what I feel.

She went on and on and I got the impression that she wanted an apology from me if our friendship were to continue.

After several heated exchanges I then wrote her back and reminded her about the reason I received the correct impression about her friend. I reviewed with her about my prediction that something would occur where it would be important to trust me as an earned authority. I then told her this was the time.

Unfortunately this reminder had no positive effect. Next I received a very angry letter from her boyfriend. He told me that I had made Glenys extremely upset and this was a very heartless thing for me to do to someone as ill as she was. I was just making her worse and should cease even contacting her.

His tone was so angry that I was glad he lived in New Zealand – too far for physical contact.

We didn’t communicate much after that though she did keep me updated until the end which came a few months later.

I write this not to diminish Glenys who we all loved but in an attempt to derive some good out of the awkward situation. She was indeed an evolved soul, yet with all her aspirations, knowledge and keen mind she could not harmonize with me through the soul.

And why was that?

Not because she couldn’t, but because she would not consider that she may have been wrong. This created a blockage that would not allow her mind to verify my words through the soul, even though the Powers-That-Be provided a witness in preparation for her test.

Blayne writes:
Here is one of the problems as I see it. There is a fine line between seeing one as an earned authority and blind trust. Myself for instance I do not have reliable enough soul that I trust enough to be able to see eye to eye on all things. So I am wary of falling into a blind trust over something just for the sake of unity which is not real unity anyway and will not last. Therefore I require a certain amount of facts and evidence etc. and things to make sense and if that does not satisfy me I will not change my stance. Now this is where a real strong soul impression could make a difference. So it really seems to boil down to reliable soul contact being the issue.

JJ
You have very accurately described the problem the disciple has as he develops his mind and reasoning powers. We just talked about the problem that Glenys had which involved keeping the emotional body at peace, but the mental makeup also presents a tremendous challenge. It was accurately described by DK when he stated the “the mind is the slayer of the real.”

Let is first talk about the problems with the emotional self of the disciple as he treads the path toward unity. To illustrate the problem let us suppose we are observing two students who are strong seekers but still strongly influenced by their emotional bodies. These we will call students A and B.

These two find two different teachers. The first teacher is very deceptive, manipulative and many of his teachings are full of illusion. However, within these teachings are morsels of truth that cause some sincere students to gravitate to him.

The second teacher is an initiate with reliable soul contact. Of course, no one is perfect but his teachings are inspired, have true principles and touch the soul. His teachings basically lead students in the right direction.

We will call these two Teachers A and B.

Student A is captivated by Teacher A. Because his teachings seem harmonious to his emotional body he doesn’t use the mind to question or discern the flaws. Student A finds others like himself in the group and they unite in support and are willing to do anything asked of them without questioning.

There is great unity in the group. They raise money, begin projects, sing songs and seem happy as they press forward. The group grows but because of many flaws in the foundation teachings very little is accomplished that will further any type of constructive progress.

Then one day Teacher A criticizes Student A in a way that feels wrong to him. He tries to shrug it off but then the next time he hears him teach he finds himself questioning and analyzing the words much more than before. It isn’t long before he sees gaping holes in the teachings. He openly questions the truth of the teacher’s words and the teacher now lashes out and condemns him.

Now the student’s feelings are really hurt and he finds fault with most everything the teacher says – many things that he previously though were true and wonderful. He leaves the group and becomes an outspoken critic of the teacher he once adored.

Student B is at a similar stage of spiritual evolution as Student A but he has the good fortune to become involved with a true teacher – Teacher B. His journey with the true teacher is very similar to Student A’s with the deceptive one. He becomes enthused, supportive and willing to do most anything asked of him. He finds himself sharing unity with others like himself but is disturbed by some of the mental types who demand proof, reasoning and logic. Teacher A didn’t allow dissent so he didn’t have this questioning to deal with. These mental ones want all the pieces to fit together before they accept the teacher and support him 100%. This student often finds he is in conflict with a couple of these doubting Thomases.

Then one day this student has a heated argument with a mental type and the teacher seems to side with him. Now student B is offended and from that point on looks at the teachings that come forth with a jaundice eye. Suddenly it appears that the teacher has lost his light and is now fallen like Lucifer of old.

He now questions everything the teacher says. This teacher though does not lash out but patiently tries to explain things to him and attempts to nudge him back toward the soul where he can verify the truth of things.

What Student B hears though is a criticism that he is not good enough the way he is. He becomes very upset and quits the group. He also becomes an outspoken critic of his group and teacher.

It is interesting that these two students had two very different teachers, but the end result of the two was very similar. Student B has an apparent advantage of having some true principles planted in him. This will be an advantage if he is true to them. On the other hand, it will be a great disadvantage if he is not but continues to rebel against the light because he holds on to negative feelings and does not let them go.

Our next illustration involves the more left-brain seekers or the mental types.

We have the same teachers, A & B, but instead of two students we’ll use just one, Student C. He relies mostly on mind but has had some soul contact.

Student C is invited by an emotionally polarized friend to come to a class taught by Teacher A who mixes much illusion with some truth, but presents himself with great emotional vigor which gives the illusion that he knows what he is talking about.

After a couple hours in the teacher’s class this student is somewhat perplexed as to why his friend is so enamored with this guy. He said a couple of things that made some sense, but several others that he was sure were incorrect. He mentions these flaws to his friend and was surprised that they completely went over his head even though they should have been obvious. Instead, his friend defended his teacher by claiming that the real truth cannot be proven in black and white and the teacher has insights not available to the rest of us. Basically, he was telling Student C to have faith in the teacher or to recognize the unearned authority of the Beast.

He went back a second time at the insistence of his friend and this time he was more impressed. The teacher taught around an illusion for the whole class period, but it was an illusion held on to dearly by Student C. Because the student had an error in his belief system through an unresolved illusion the teacher seemed to make sense this time and he attended regularly for a while. He aggravated the teacher though when he questioned him openly on some flawed details on various subjects. Finally, the teacher couldn’t take it any more and lashed out and belittled the student in front of the whole class.

The student had the mental composure to not react in kind but to merely defend himself with logic and then left the class no longer to return. His controlled reaction made the teacher look small in some eyes, but most held the student at fault for the conflict rather than the teacher.

Student C did not hold a grievance nor become an enemy to Teacher A but did not hold back giving a frank opinion when his name came up in conversation.

This student was then invited by another friend to attend a class given by Teacher B who has a high degree of soul contact and accuracy.

During the class everything the teacher spoke of made sense to the student and the members of the class also seemed intelligent as well as friendly. He thought he had found his long sought for place that seemed like home.

As the classes continued Student C felt that he could just not accept everything without question so he let his critical filters remain open. Most teachings made sense but there were others he was not sure about and several errors he thought he spotted. After his last experience he was a little reluctant to challenge the teacher, but finally he thought he must.

He openly challenged the teacher in class and was impressed that the teacher did not lash out or avoid answering the question. Instead, he calmly answered questions and defended his point of view with good reasoning and data. Some of the answers caused the student to reconsider his opinion, but others did not alter his view.

Even though this student did not agree with everything being taught he figured he had found the best game in town and decided to continue attending. After all, he was learning some new things and there’s probably no one on earth who agrees with him on everything.

Then one day a real conflict emerged. The teacher gave a class centered on Student C’s illusion. This was the illusion that Teacher A had embraced and was about the only thing the student liked about his teachings.

Teacher B saw through the illusion and taught the truth as seen through the eyes of the soul.

Because this was a cherished illusion held by the student an immediate red flag went up. He was a logical person, but on this subject his reasoning began with the assumption that his illusion was correct. He had not examined his illusion closely enough and with enough dispassion to resolve it.

This seemingly illogical teaching affected his emotions quite strongly and it took a lot of self-control on his part to maintain his normal composure. He immediately challenged the teacher in no uncertain terms and the teacher responded with as clear reasoning as he could present.

Over the next couple classes the two went back and forth numerous times with neither one convincing the other. The reaction of the students in the class was interesting. A few held on to the same illusion as Student C agreed with him and were also sure the teacher had gone astray on this point, except for one with some reservations.

The rest of the class was divided into two categories. Part of them were somewhat familiar with the illusion-based subject, but had not put enough attention on it to have strong opinions or to have embraced the illusion. Some had been mildly disposed to the illusion and some against but it was not a dogma with them – they were not entrapped by the illusion. The other part of the group had paid little attention to this subject and hadn’t given it much thought in life. They did not have enough information planted in their brain about the subject to have been trapped by the illusion.

After hearing the dialog between their teacher and Student C every single person that had not embraced the illusion sided with the teacher and could find no flaw in his reasoning, nor could they find any conflict with their own soul contact.

On the other hand, those who embraced the illusion had great difficulty in even registering the possibility they could be wrong. Even though they had respect for the teacher they could not even consider that he could have been right on this subject. They believed that their conclusions harmonized with their souls so it never occurred to them to check anew, as if they were a little child, starting fresh. Their opinion registered strongly with their emotional bodies but they would not concede they had never received soul confirmation on the subject.

And one more thing added to the confusion of those caught by the illusion. To understand the subject around the illusion one had to comprehend a number of different principles. These students correctly saw a couple of the principles involved and had received some soul contact concerning them. This caused them to be completely sure they were correct on the whole matter and refused to openly consult with their souls on the whole of the matter as taught by the teacher.

After the class exhausted all the points of the debate the two groups were beside themselves. Those caught in the illusion filtered their reasoning through the illusion and couldn’t for the life of them see why they could not convince even one person who had not believed as they did. Similarly, the other members could not understand why Student C and his few dissenters could not see what appeared to them to be the obvious truth.

The end result was that Student C became very discouraged with the teacher and began to wonder how many other errors he made that he may have overlooked. He absolutely could not wholeheartedly support any group goal that embraced the teacher’s views on this subject.

He thus had a powerful debate within himself as to whether to stay or to leave the group. After much thought he decided to stay for despite this problem, this was still the highest light he could find with which to associate.

Two others who thought as himself though took different routes. The first left the group in disgust and sought to fellowship with others who embraced the illusion.

The other one was approaching the Third Initiation and, after some time, had an epiphany. He reflected on the teacher’s words and examined his own core long held beliefs for flaws. After much soul reflection his mind, in harmony with spirit, instantly saw a greater picture and the illusion dissolved just as does the midst with the morning sun. That which was not seen before was now seen. Now the greatest mystery in his mind was why it had been so difficult for him to see it.

This student went on to be the greatest defender of the true principles as taught by the teacher as well as others that he saw for himself that was taught him by no man.

These examples paint a picture that illustrate to us the difficulty in creating a united group without violating free will. Let us list a few of the areas that cause separateness and prevent unity.

Unity problems arising from the emotional body.

(1) Any criticism or correction real or imagined can cause the aspirant to withdraw support or become negative.

(2) A feeling by the seeker that other members of the group are not doing their share.

(3) Any type of irritation toward the teacher or members of the group.

(4) Impatience because of apparent imperfection in the group.

(5) Any glamour held by the seeker can produce separateness, especially one that causes him to see himself as more spiritually evolved than he is. A feeling of superiority is a great hindrance to unity.

Unity Problems centered on the mind.

(1) The big problem originating from the mind is illusion. If the seeker sees a thing as true that is not true then he will oppose the real truth on the subject when it is presented. Because the soul always takes the side of real truth he will have much difficulty in uniting with a group that seems to be in error when it is not.

(2) The mind slays the real. If he relies too much on the mind and too little on soul contact he will find flaws in many small details causing him to reject the big picture and miss many points of truth.

(3) Unless he learns patience he can get irritated with the emotional types and want to distance himself from them.

(4) He can also become impatient with members and the group as a whole.

(5) He may have a fear that merging or supporting the group may cause him to lose his identity or intellectual discernment. He may be overly concerned about giving in to the Beast. This is a legitimate concern, but must be tempered with judgment and he must find the right time to trust.

(6) If either the mental or emotional types have their ideas rejected by the teacher or the group they are likely to feel separated and rejected unless they have soul contact.

The ideal group, or molecule would be one where all members have soul contact and can resolve any difference by looking trough the eyes of the soul together and seeing the same thing. Unfortunately, it is difficult to find even two people who can do this.

When one sees the difficulty he can understand why Jesus called John the Baptist the greatest prophet of them all. He prepared a group that had enough soul contact to create a working molecule.

The Twelve and the Twenty-Four were not perfectly soul infused and they sometimes drifted off the mark but they were sensitive enough to realize when they needed to come back to the center and see the Christ within each member of the group and drink of the same spiritual cup together.
