Principle Questions

Principle Questions

A reader writes:

“So JJ, are you saying that making the DECISION to serve is all that’s needed as it seemed that the parable was calling for a decision from each of those at the threshold of heaven?”

ANSWER: The parable was a hint, not the answer – two different things. A hint points you in the right direction so you can make use of your intuition to shine your light on the principle that reveals the full answer. Only then will the disciple understand completely.

The reader continues: “If that’s the case, maybe I’ll ask a different question 🙂 What’s the use of having God appear before you to answer a question if all you’re going to get in reply is a principle. Sometimes a little fact that cuts to the chase can go a long way. As it was God in the chair in your scenario, I’d take my chances on whether what He said was true or not – after all, if you can’t trust God….. :-)))”

ANSWER: The idea of God or a Master appearing just to answer all your questions is a hypothetical thing that does not happen in the real world. Most of us would agree that Christ was the greatest Master of all time, yet, even though the disciples and the common people were in His presence for three years on a daily basis, they were still frustrated because He attempted to teach principles rather than facts.

Consider this: “Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.” John 10:24

These Jews were frustrated because Jesus taught the Christ principle rather than the fact that he was manifesting it. They wanted facts rather than principles.

You’ll notice that Jesus rarely taught with plain facts. His words were so great because he concentrated on principles. For instance “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you,” is not a fact but a principle.

He often taught in parables or proverbs because such illustrations reveal principles. Here are some of His words:

“These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs (illustrated principles): but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father. (He will reveal facts after the principles are understood). At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father. His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb. John 16:25-29

Notice in this last verse the disciples seem relived because they are finally getting some facts to go along with the principles. The interesting thing is that they thought they finally understood something, but they were still in the dark about what “going to the Father” really meant.

Here’s another interesting quote:

And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables (Principles)? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. Matt 13:10-11

In other words, the disciples had gained some understanding of the principles in the parables, but the general public was just looking at the black and white facts.

For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. Matt 13:12-13

The general public looks only at the black and white facts in the parables. They thought they saw and thought they understood, but did not see or understand anything that Jesus really tried to communicate.

And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Matt 13:14-15

This last statement is an enunciation of the fact that the majority of the people refused to rise to the level of the soul so the principles (the language of the Holy Spirit) in the parables could be seen.

It is interesting that one of the main messages of Jesus was about the Kingdom of Heaven, but not once did he give out even one fact about it. All that he said about it was through principles clothed in parables. Thus we see that the teaching method of Jesus was basically to teach the principle first. Then he took those who understood and incorporated the principles, and used whatever facts necessary to help them fully understand.

The trouble with facts is that they are too black and white to allow for the full principle of decision to manifest. Let us suppose God told you that the best thing you could do with your life was to be a nurse, and this would be true if you could put your heart in it. But now, maybe your heart is not in it because it was not your decision. Instead some being out there told you this was best for you. Thus God would become your personal beast.

So again we ask. What is the principle and how can we use it to answer the question: “How can I best serve?”

Answers Through Principles, Part II

Feb 20 1999

Answers Through Principles, Part II

Let me mention again that we are fluctuating between topics as we wade through the principles of business and politics as they apply to the new age. Some will find these basics of the new age interesting. Others may yawn for a while, but we must keep in mind that these two areas of thought with a keynote of service, will form and mold the coming age. It is important that the seekers after knowledge not be left behind.

Jesus taught over and over: “The first shall be last and the last first.” Thus it often is. Those on the cutting edge of the age past are often left behind as the new age begins to dawn.

Now to backtrack to our appropriate topic. Our alternate discussion concerned soul contact and we were talking about the importance of understanding principles in relation to that. Communion through the soul is done through the transmission of principles which always lead to pure knowledge. On the other hand, communion through the astral body, the emotional nature, the lower mind and lower psychism always deals with facts which may or may not be correct.

You will notice that astral psychics always try and relate facts to the customer such as: “I see that you are close to someone whose name begins with B.” Or “You have been married more than once.” Or: “You will soon travel abroad.” All of this type of material comes through the astral body and is filtered through an upside down illusionary principle and is rarely to be trusted.

The higher psychics deal with principles through the soul. Some facts will come through, but when they do they are related to a principle in the mind of the adept or seer. The higher psychic will always understand why he is saying what he is saying because he gets revelation in association with principles which he understands.

There will be times, however, that the higher psychic will receive hints from his inner teacher that he is supposed to solve through the understanding of a principle. For instance he may awaken in the morning hearing some words such as “the fifth feeds on the forth.” At first he may ask himself, “What in the world does that mean?” Then later he will realize this is a hint that he must solve through the intuitive principle, and as he studies and contemplates the truth will be revealed.

When the adept teaches others, he will always teach from the vantage point of understanding. He will not be pulling things out of the air and teaching what he does not himself understand.

Now let us review the questions we previously covered. I notice that when I asked you what a principle was that your answers were very good, but then when I asked you to use a principle to solve a problem or question, the group seemed to be silent. This is because the application of truth is much more difficult than the mere stating of the truth.

We have a lot of teachers out there giving out “truths” about immortality, ascension, higher contacts, alien contact, but how many can demonstrate that their truth can be applied with definite results? Very few that I have seen.

Now we are talking about principles. To remove one of the barriers of soul contact we must learn to apply principles so knowledge is revealed.

Let us turn to the first question that we had to God.

One answer given was: “Honestly.. I would ask him once and for all, what is the truth?”

Now if these teachings on principles are true then what truth itself is can be understood through the comprehension of the principles behind them.

Truth is that which is revealed by light, either physical light or the light of the mind, at a certain point in time and space. Truth is not revealed through the astral body or the emotional nature, except insofar as it is reflected off the mind.

The search for truth does not exist in the formless worlds of the spirit because nothing untrue exists there. In the higher worlds there is no search for truth because all is real and there is no illusion there. In these realms no one ever asks: “Is this true?”

This is why the Dark Brothers can only function in vehicles of form and do not even believe in the higher worlds – because they are enemies of reality.

When ideas from the world of Spirit are reflected into the worlds of form, the principle of truth and the deception are created. The lives functioning there must discern truth by clearing away clouds of darkness, and perceiving the true form through eyes that see.

Thus we could say that the principle of truth is: “The correct seeing of the form as it was at the point of time under consideration, past, present or future,” By form we mean a physical form, an imagined form or various combinations of the two.

So, did OJ murder his wife? To find the truth of this we have to see enough evidence so we can “correctly see” what his form did to her form that fateful night. When enough evidence is gathered and we filter out the astral seeing, then a correct conclusion can be gathered.

The reason so many people saw incorrectly in the OJ case was that the illusionary astral seeing was relied upon more than physical and mental seeing. Because of strong astral distortion a computer would often be a better juror than what we now produce.

This case is an example of a point of truth in the past. A point on the present is the answer to the question: “What am I thinking?” A point of truth in the future would be the answer to this question: “Who will win the world series?” Correct seeing reveals all truth, past, present and future.

Now let us look at another question, a very admirable one: “How can I best serve?”

No one dared guess at the principle that could answer this question so let us take another look at it and use this as the question for the day. Let us try anew to find the principle that will reveal the answer. What could it be?

Hint: Read the parable of Decision.

What Can I Do For My Country?

144

Feb 17, 1999

What Can I Do For My Country?

Do our politicians create too many laws or not enough? Are we taxed too much or not enough? Do our elected officials do too much or not enough? Do government programs try to do too much for people or not enough? Do our elected officials seek to please their party leaders or the good of the country as a whole? Do our elected officials represent the will of the people as we desire, or other wills?

As we begin to talk about how Molecular Politics will change the political systems, I want to clarify the fact that this change is not just for the United States but for all the free world. The political problems are very similar in all the democratic nations. They all have liberals and conservatives and the common people all have similar complaints that are being ignored.

The transition to a true democracy is expected to be mainly fought out in the United States, but it is always possible that some smaller nation could incorporate the higher principles before we do. A true democracy has never existed in recorded history, but one is on the drawing board of those who watch.

The reason I asked the questions mentioned above is to illustrate to the mind of the seeker the nature of the problems we face and to point us in the direction of a true solution.

First question:

Do our politicians create too many laws or not enough?

Most agreed on this that we have too many laws. It is interesting that Jesus came in to a situation where the law was king. There were hundreds of silly laws telling the people what was work on the Sabbath. For instance, you could not walk on the Sabbath with sandals that had nails in them because the extra weight would constitute work. Then, too, you were told how many steps you could take on the Sabbath. If you took more than the allotted number you were working and God would frown on that.

Jesus ignored these silly little rules and made fun of them and this infuriated the Jewish leaders. In fact some Jews are still so irritated at the guy that they spit over their shoulder when they hear the name of Jesus.

In speaking of the law Jesus taught that he who is full of love automatically obeys all the laws as God intended. The laws of Moses were merely intended to guide us to the Love of Christ, and two or more guided by such love will not violate the rights of God or man. The love demonstrated by Christ has been a big benefit for mankind, but we still have a long way to go before it is lifted up in the masses. As we realize this brotherhood and love, the need for laws will dissipate.

Even now we could eliminate 80 to 90% of the laws of the land (in all nations) and the overall effect would be positive. There will be civil laws for some time to come, but they will become fairer and more reasonable. It would be a good idea for each nation to completely rewrite their laws every fifty or one hundred years.

Question two: Are we taxed too much or not enough?

All in the group were on agreement on this. All the nations tax too much. How do the French feel about being taxed to death over there Xavier? I understand it is worse there than here.

Except in times of national threat a nation should be able to live on a tax of ten per cent of our income and the time may come that such a tax will become voluntary like a tithe. Citizens would be happy to give to their nation if they had an enlightened leadership who sought to serve.

Question three: Do our elected officials do too much or not enough?

Most of you thought that they do not do enough and I agree with you from the angle that you see it. I get the sense that you think they do not do enough for the people and this is true to an extent, but overall I want to present you with the idea that they do too much. Way too much.

As proof of this look at what has transpired in the United States over the past year (1998-1999). Both Congress and the Presidency have been nearly paralyzed and have done almost nothing. You hear all these guys saying over and over: “We have to get back to work for the American people.” Now have we as a country suffered because Congress and the President have been doing almost nothing?

Not at all. Instead we have had a tremendous benefit. While the economies of almost all the other nations have gone downhill the United States is in better shape than ever and the stock market has exploded. As our lawmakers have stayed out of our way the American people have made this country work better than it ever has. All classes of people are better off than they were a year ago.

There has been an interesting trend over the years. When Congress comes in session the market goes down and when it is out of session it goes up. The principle is this: The less government does by the use of force the better off are its people.

Our government should do much more by inspiring people as John Kennedy did when he said: “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” Both sides of the spectrum have forgotten those great words. The question people of all nations are asking today is: “What can my country do for me? I want my share.” Kennedy’s question must be asked again loud and clear if the Kingdom of God is to come.

Now Congress and the President are getting back to work we’d better watch out. We will be fortunate indeed if progress in this next year is as good as the last.

Question four: “Do government programs try to do too much for people or not enough?”

Again, government programs are what our country can do for a few of us at the expense of the many. When the government becomes a true servant of the people then the people will freely serve the government. When the government is “by the people, for the people and of the people,” as Lincoln said, then serving the government will be serving our brothers and sisters. When this time comes no forceful government programs will be necessary.

Question Five: Do our elected officials seek to please their party leaders or the good of the country as a whole?

I think we all agree that elected official who are supposed to represent the will of the people really represent their party leaders. This was really demonstrated in the Clinton trial.

Question Six: Do our elected officials represent the will of the people as we desire, or other wills?

They not only follow party leaders, but the large donors, pressure groups, the media – almost everything but you and me – except for a short space before election day.

We have now identified the problem. The big question is what is the solution? What can we do to get our lawmakers to listen to our wills? It can be done and we shall present the solution right here in this forum. Hopefully it will renew your faith that positive change is possible.

Question: Is it possible to set up a true democracy in the United States (or some other nation)? Is it even desirable? Do the polls give us an idea of how a democracy would vote?

Dealing with Negative Forces

15 Feb 1999

Dealing with Negative Forces

I just noticed we reached exactly 144 members. This number may go up and down for a while like 100 did, but we are 1/1000th of the way to the magic number.

I see that the Clinton crisis has been averted through the acquittal. We had a more dangerous situation there than anyone realized because few knew how far Clinton would have gone to stay in office. If the Senate had made a decision to remove him he could have conjured up some type of executive order to suspend the will of Congress or just refused to leave. With 70% of the public support and 100% of the Democrat support along with a lot of wishy-washy Republicans, he had a better than 50-50 chance of altering the Constitution by decree. If such a move had been successful there would have been no election for the year 2000.

Believe me, many of the Brotherhood were in meditation deep to guide us through an aspect of this crisis that the masses were oblivious to. Now, because it would violate the will of the masses as well as both Democrats and Republicans to interfere with the future election, barring some unforeseen situation, we should move into the new century with the election process firmly in place.

A Dictatorship can only be set up when the will of the people allow it. The Brotherhood of Light always takes that will into consideration in guiding the events of the planet. Now we are in a situation where the will of the people will not allow any suspension of Congress.

There was no ideal outcome and no one is entirely happy about how things worked out, but events evolved so the election situation is as safe as could be expected.

After Clinton leaves office he will not disappear into the woodwork as have other presidents. Look for him to be working through the United Nations or possibly to lead them. Look for him to turn into an international roaming consultant of presidents and kings. Hillary has her eye on becoming the first female president of the United States, but I make no firm prediction in this area. There are too many variables. If I had to bet on it I would say she will not achieve this. (Note: I guess we’ll know soon on this one)

When we make a great effort to progress upon the path a vacuum is created behind us that tries to suck us backward at our weakest moment. If this negative force does not pull us backward it will create an attack when our guard is down at our most vulnerable point.

For instance, I have noticed that after a person receives a strong dose of soul contact he will almost always receive a strong negative pull within a period of three days after the contact. Then over half the time he will yield to the negativity and the soul contact will be as if it never was. Then if he resists the direct attack on himself, the negative force will often rest upon his friends.

My observation of this negative force is that it always follows after he who is making spiritual progress. I have concluded that it is a necessary thing that works in the end to stabilize us in the light. When we learn to stay focused in the light while a negative force pulling us back, with negative people and circumstances trying to distract us, then we finally reach a point where we have earned the right to stay permanently on out next plateau of consciousness.

When we slip and make mistakes but readjust and center back in the light, we can almost always on hindsight see what we should have done. We need to take strong note of this, and use the knowledge of the past to penetrate the future fog into the permanent light.

Working our way out of life problems is sometimes very difficult, but the experience gained is always a knowledge that you wouldn’t trade for a pile of books.

Answers through Principles

15 Feb 1999

Answers through Principles

Question for consideration:

Let us say that you were visited by an all knowing master, or God itself, and he told you that you could ask any question you wanted. What would you ask?

The reason I asked this is that we were talking about the importance of principles in relation to soul contact. I was interested in seeing if you would ask questions that would demand facts for answers or principles.

Actually you surpassed my expectations. Some facts could be used in answering some of your questions, but overall you have gone in the direction of principles with your questions. This is a good sign that you are heading in the direction of soul contact.

Below are some of your questions:

“Honestly.. I would ask him once and for all, what is the truth?”

Good question, the same one that Pilate asked Jesus. Interestingly, Jesus did not answer. Actually truth is based upon a principle. Can anyone tell us what that is???

“Only ONE question? I think I’d ask, who are you?”

You are in a league with Moses here. That is basically what he was asking when he wanted to know the name of God. And we now know the answer is that He is BECOMING what He DECIDES to BECOME.

Here is another response:

“How can I best serve?

“The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I had enough of a grasp of spiritual principles not to want to ask meaning of life type questions. I would be more interested in asking questions that would assist me live a life that optimized my service to the Grand Plan as I have a horror of missing opportunities to serve.”

This is a great answer. All true seekers want to do the greatest good for the greatest number of people and I am confident that this is a true feeling in this person’s heart. Now my question back to the group is this. What is the principle that will answer her question: “How can I best serve?”

Here’s another:

“I guess right now I’d probably ask God exactly what it is that I have done (in past lives perhaps, or this one) that is making this life so unbearably difficult.”

We have probably all wondered about this one. What is the principle that will answer her question?

“After getting past the easy ones, like: •Why me?• and after much contemplation, I think I’d ask: •How can I face & heal my karma of the past & present and complete my Divine Plan ASAP?”

The principle behind this answer is very close to Tracy’s question. First you apply the principle that reveals karma then you can see how to work it out.

“Next time I get to speak to God or other all knowing Masters, I’m going to ask, ‘what’s the WORD’? I’m sure I would receive the closest thing to it that I can handle. If I knew the Word, the word would be in me. I would be the WORD and all things would be possible. Or not, but that seems to be a big draw for me. I can’t think of any other question that would be more important to me.”

The WORD is also based on a principle and cannot be revealed as a fact. It could not be revealed as something like KAZAAM because that would make it a fact and not a principle. There is a hint about the WORD in what he said in the above.

“I have another one. If you want the word, it means you want the means to create. then what you need is hard occultism. Bardon (sorry, fan thing) gives the divine word in his ‘the true kabbala’”.

I would be interested in hearing what this version of the WORD is.

“How can all who are struggling to survive break the chains of bondage to achieve freedom and prosperity? Please be specific.”

This is also solved through a principle. I wrote briefly about it a couple days ago and the key principle to solve this problem is ATTENTION.

Here is a quote from that post: “The problem occurs when we do not understand the rules, and therefore, our ATTENTION is not on becoming a player. Instead, we are tempted to substitute rules of our own and play a game that we know we can win. This is not, however, what the Higher Self wants, and neither do we when we understand. Would Monopoly even be fun if there was no risk of landing on someone else’s motel and suffering loss? It is a great game because you take risks and there is a thrill when you win.”

We begin to win at the game of life when our ATTENTION is focused in one direction rather than scattered. The tortoise beats the hare because of ATTENTION.

I have included several questions in this post that should provide some good fodder for thought.

Recognizing the Problem

13 Feb 1999

Recognizing the Problem

I am always warmed to hear your experiences with the Song, especially new participants.

Let me remind you that I am experimenting with answering questions two days (or postings) old rather than one day. This will give us more time to think about it and also allow us the opportunity to field some more general questions in between.

The Question: Is it right or wrong to charge for spiritual teachings in this age? Should there be a charge in some circumstances, but not in others?

I was glad to see that your answers were very close to the comment I am giving out to you today.

First let me clarify the reason I asked this question. I did not have something in the back of my mind about charging the group here for the teachings I am presently offering for free. I am happily doing this with no reservations.

I asked because the charging of money is a big problem with many on the spiritual path, and it is important that we clarify the principle behind it. Students often criticize anyone who charges for anything spiritual, and those who desire to teach or heal often find themselves desperate for money. They often have to leave their labor of love because they did not charge enough or gave too much away.

I personally had a problem with this principle because of the words of the Master himself. “Freely you have received, freely give.” Matt 10:8 Because of this statement for a good portion of my life I considered that it would be wrong to charge for spiritual teachings; but then when I realized that we are coming into a new age and that business is one of the key principles in this age, I began to adjust my thinking.

Actually the principles are the same, but the application of them differs from age to age. What Jesus was talking about when he said “freely you have received” was the power to heal the sick. He transferred the power to the apostles and they had done little or nothing to earn it on their own; therefore, they had little right to charge for it.

Secondly, Jesus did not ask the apostles for money for what he gave them, but he did ask them to give their lives, which was a greater payment than all that any person has in the way of material goods.

This age is different, however. The prime emphasis on the spiritual teachers of this time is not sacrifice, but service with the principle of cause and effect in mind. The positive lessons of sacrifice will be eternally used, but will not be the focus in the coming age.

In the days of Jesus and the early church everything was accomplished through sacrifice. The disciples sacrificed money by giving healing and teachings away free. On the other hand, the populace sacrificed their money by donating to the disciples of their own free will. Thus the needs of the teachers were taken care of without the mentioning of money. The teachers received money and supplies even though they did not directly charge.

In this age all those who serve, whether they be spiritual teachers or bricklayers, are entitled to receive a just payment for their labor or products they sell.

A spiritual teacher may or may not charge depending on circumstances and needs. In this forum I am not charging you for my words of advice or teaching, but I feel rewarded in many ways other than money.

Because I am not charging you, those who feel they are learning things of value will feel a responsibility begin to grow as a seed within themselves, and this seed will eventually sprout into good works. Some of you will start groups, forums and become teachers in your own right. That will be a great reward for me to see you do this. Such reward is passed up the line to the Brotherhood and payment much greater than money is passed along through the Oneness Principle.

Nevertheless, the spiritual teacher must see to it that enough of his labor is recompensed on the physical level that his needs are taken care of, for we are not sent out into the world today as were the early disciples of the Piscean Age. They were sent out with no change of clothes, and no money, and were taken care of by the people they taught from town to town. This is not the Aquarian way.

The Aquarian way is to create a service of value so you can charge what you need for your physical comforts. The true Aquarian does not seek riches for riches sake. He seeks riches for the whole and allows himself needed abundance as he serves the group good. The true Aquarian seeks no more in reward than that which is the just effect of his service (cause).

The incorrect extreme for those seeking the Spiritual path is to seek unlimited wealth through teaching that elevates his status on the physical plane much above his students. The true teacher will dedicate his excess abundance not to self, but to the benefit of the whole in the way he sees as best. Thus, if someone gave me a Rolls Royce so I could ride around in superior style to my friends, I would sell it and use it for promoting the book.

Remember when we speak of Aquarian and Pisces in this context, we are taking about the energies affecting the ages and not your individual signs. People born under a Pisces or Aquarian sun both have their positive and negative aspects. But now as the energies of Aquarius are being released, it becomes a positive thing for us to adapt to them no matter what our chart says.

Let me remind you that we are still on the three key words of Aquarius: (1) Service (2) Business and (3) Law.

We have finally covered the business aspect and I hope we have demonstrated that the destiny of business is not to be an evil force as Hollywood loves to portray, but that it will produce a great good for the entire planet.

Business will be a force that will manifest equality, sharing, abundance, peace on earth good will toward humankind, and even ecological balance in nature. If you do not believe this, I again ask you to follow the progress that business fairness and principles have achieved over the past 100 years. If the progress continues over the next 100 years we should have near utopia circumstances.

The third key word for Aquarius is Law and law is created by our politicians and enforced through our court system. Finally, the lawbreakers are punished through our jail system. Unfortunately it is becoming a big business by itself.

The most important reform, therefore, begins at the origin of our laws, the political system. This reform will begin in the United States and spread around the world.

Before we talk about how the political system will be reformed, let us first discover what is wrong with it. Here are some questions to produce seed material. Do our politicians create too many laws or not enough? Are we taxed too much or not enough? Do our elected officials do too much or not enough? Do our elected officials represent the will of the people as we desire, or other wills? Do government programs try to do too much for people or not enough? Do our elected officials seek to please their party leaders or the good of the country as a whole?

Let us follow the advice from A Course in Miracles: “Let me Recognize the Problem so it can be solved.” (Lesson 79)

Focus, My Son

82

Feb 12, 1999

Focus, My Son

It sounds like some of you are having a rough time at present. The main question on your minds seems to be something like: “Why do we have to go through these things?” or “Why is life so hard at times?”

The real answer to this is in the mystery of the very purpose of mankind which we’ll discuss later. Suffice it to say that life is very much like a game, and we have come into it as willing participants.

The problem occurs when we do not understand the rules; and therefore, our ATTENTION is not on becoming a player. Instead, we are tempted to substitute rules of our own and play a game that we think we can win. This is not, however, what the Higher Self wants, and neither do we when we understand. Would Monopoly even be fun if there were no risk of landing on someone else’s motel and suffering loss? It is a great game because you take risks and there is a thrill when you win.

Life is a little like that. When we learn the rules and focus all of our attention on the part we should be playing, then we eventually put all things under our feet, as did the Christ, and move to a higher level of playing.

When life seems out of control it should be a sign to us that we have taken our attention off the part we should be playing. What we need to do is focus on the details (yes, sometimes they are boring details) that will cause circumstances to mold to our good.

What happens to many seekers is that they seek after the dream instead of reality, and their attention becomes split in two because reality forces us to devote considerable attention on it. We must live our lives with a single focus of attention and then circumstances will work in our favor with greater and greater rapidity. I have learned this through painful experience.

In this age we have to examine the disbursement of spiritual teachings (actually all things of value) through the focus of service. The principle for the age of Aquarius is this: “As I serve my brothers and sisters I receive payment according to the value of my service. I may take that payment in money or I may take it through other means, but I see that when I create cause, like effect is at the door. I do not seek to gather to myself more than the effects that I create.”

 Authoritarianism

As we approach this election it is interesting to examine the reasons that spiritual seekers are for or against the two main presidential candidates – or even a third party.

As far as third party goes the voter should realize that there is zero chance that a third party candidate will win. The only effect of voting third party is some feeling of satisfaction that one participated in the process.

The fact is that one of the two major candidates will win and by not voting or voting third party is to create a greater chance that the most dangerous of the two will win.

Some say that they cannot vote for either candidate because he or she does not represent their views or values. Well, I have been voting for about 50 years now and so far I have not found the perfect candidate. Many of those who seemed reasonable performed below the hopes of the people with a small handful doing a good job.

My philosophy is to vote for the best candidate who has a possibility of winning. If I were to vote for a person who thinks exactly like myself I would have to write my own name in which would be just as big of a waste as voting for a candidate who has single digit poll numbers.

This election is interesting in that Trump and Clinton are conjuring up more intense negativity than any two candidates in memory. People have a love or hate relationship with Trump or a snooze or hate relationship with Hillary. Trump draws crowds of over 15,000 while Hillary has to work to get a couple hundred to a rally. Donald’s vice president Pence draws Hillary sized crowds while Hillary’s Vice President, Kaine draws tiny crowds. The other day all he could gather in Florida was 30 people to listen to him.

I guess you could say that Trump is trying to win through entertainment, excitement and getting our blood in circulation while Hillary is trying to win us over by putting us into a dreamless sleep, boring us into submission.

There seems to be a lot of illusion around the two candidates, the main one is the comparison of Trump to Hitler or at best way too authoritarian. Those who compare Trump to Hitler have obviously not studied history. I dealt with this myth in an earlier post which is on my website.

That said, we never know for sure what we will get in a president until he or she serves for a time in office, but so far in my life of 71 years each president has performed pretty close to my expectations.

So, between the two, which candidate will be the more authoritarian? Let’s take a look.

  1. Immigration.

Trump wants to work within the law and deport those who have broken it, as the law states, and then open a “big door” to let the peaceable people back in legally.

Hillary supports violating the law as she strongly criticizes Trump for wanting to enforce it. She seems to support Sanctuary cities which violate law as her campaign manager last year said this, “Hillary Clinton believes that sanctuary cities can help further public safety, and she has defended those policies going back years.”

The true authoritarian thinks he is above the law and will not work within it unless it suits him. One cannot say that Trump is overly authoritarian for desiring to enforce the law, for true authoritarians work outside the law.

A great example of one who worked within the law was Abraham Lincoln. When he became president slavery was abhorrent to him. Even though he didn’t like the slavery laws at all he knew his best course was not to violate the law, but to seek to change it. Until the laws were changed he worked within them as he realized that selectively ignoring law could lead to anarchy and the eventual collapse of the country.

Even so, if we are not happy with immigration law (which was created by both parties) we should seek to change them rather than violate them with some imagined authority.

  1. The Second Amendment & Guns

Again Trump merely wants the Second Amendment to apply as written and supports most the laws to date and doesn’t want to further infringe on the right to bear arms.

Hillary says she is willing to bypass Congress and use executive orders to create additional regulations.

On this issue Hillary is far more authoritarian.

  1. Obamacare

This is the most authoritarian gab for control of our lives that has ever come down the pike in this country.

Trump wants to repeal it and replace it with one that is less authoritarian and works more efficiently. Hillary wants to keep it and fine tune the system.

Which candidate is more authoritarian here? It should be obvious.

  1. Regulations in general

Trump wants fewer regulations. He especially wants to eliminate those that hinder our economy and our freedoms.

Hillary wants more regulations governing just about every area of our lives.

Which is the more authoritarian approach? Obviously it takes strong authority to implement and enforce infringing regulations.

  1. Big government.

Trump wants to reduce the size of government whereas all of Hillary’s plans will just make it bigger. Big government is more authoritarian than small government.

So, where do people get the idea that Trump is more authoritarian than Hillary? It is certainly not from his policies. Instead, I would guess it is this.

He has a commanding presence; his speech and charisma draw attention. When he speaks people listen and huge crowds are drawn giving him more of an air of authority than Clinton, though he is less authoritative in policy.

Conclusion, if the seeker plans on voting for Clinton because she is less authoritative then I would suggest he or she take a deeper look.

Chapter 43

Chapter Forty-Three — The Palace Returns

The sun was high when I awakened. I got up and shaved and showered. Bill and the Texans could be in any day; maybe the Texans wouldn’t even come out to the mine. Maybe they would stay in the city and play with the Señoritas.

I picked up my Polaroid camera and decided to take some pictures for them to take home to show their wives. I had just finished snapping a picture of the big mud oven when I heard a truck — the Palace!

A warm glow came over me. How could I bawl out Chuck and Jock when I was so glad they were back. The Palace came bumping in over the rough road, swaying from side to side. I climbed up on a little bank and watched it. I saw three men in the cab.

Chuck brought the truck to a stop. He was grinning from ear to ear. There sat Jock and Chase beside him. They got out and just stood there weaving a little.

I roared at them, “You damned outlaws, what took you so long?”

All they did was grin.

“Been drinking, too, you darn villains! But welcome home!” The camera was in my hand so I snapped their picture.

“Did you get everything I sent you for?”

They nodded.

“Did you get some women?”

They nodded again.

“Well, get them out and I’ll take their pictures.” We walked around to the rear of the Palace, then I climbed up on the bank and waited. Chuck unlocked the door, pulled the ladder down and held up his hand. Down the stair-steps came Argentina!

For a second I stood there too astonished to utter a word. Then I started to laugh.

“Good going, Chuck old boy! You sure brought one girl these natives will leave alone.” I snapped a picture.

“Did you bring more?”

“Sure,” said Chuck.

“Well, get them out. I want to take more pictures.”

I counted to sixty, took the print out and was ready for another shot. I pointed the camera toward the back of the truck and was looking through the viewfinder as more females came walking down the steps. There were three of them.

“Stand closer together,” I said. “I can’t quite get you all in the picture.”

They obeyed and stood with their arms around one another. Something looked vaguely familiar and I was startled. I looked up. The camera fell from my hands. It hit a rock and rolled down the hill. There stood Connie, Juanita, Rosa….and little Tiny. They were all smiling at me.

This irritated me. I halted and said, “Where are you going, where do you come from?”

This usually was good for a smile, but Jock and Chase also wearing their best clothes didn’t smile.

“How come you two are looking like dandies?” I asked. “What for?”

Jock stepped up close to me there in the moonlight. As I looked down at the little fellow’s handsome face I saw how serious he was, and saw the strange look in those deep dark eyes.

“Is something bothering you?” I asked.

He nodded.

“What is it, Jock? You know I’m your friend.”

“I must tell you something,” he said softly.

He held out his hand and I took it in mine.

Suddenly he blurted out, “Señor Joe, Juanita and I are very much in love. It has been that way for a long time, have you not noticed?”

There were tears in his eyes.

“She loves you very much, Señor Joe, we both love you very much. Can’t you understand?”

For a moment I stood there looking down at the little fellow. A warmth spread over me.

“God bless both of you.”

“Señor Joe!”

“What is it, Jock?”

“You are breaking my hand!”

I put my arm around his shoulder, “Jock,” I said, and pointed to number three cabin. “There’s a light in the window for you. Hurry, man, hurry!”

Jock was off on a run.

Chase was still waiting.

“Now what the hell do you want?” I asked.

The expression on the handsome dark face of Chase didn’t change. He said a little uncertainly, “Señor Joe, Rosita and I were married two days ago.”

“You and Rosita?” I was flabbergasted.

Chase nodded. There was nothing more for me to say. I held out my hand again. He smiled as I pointed to the light in the number two cabin. He was gone.

I walked back and sat down on the log and looked up at the stars. “Everyone’s destiny is written there, the stars do not lie.” Never again would I doubt them.

The lights in cabins number two and three had gone out and a pitch candle was flickering in the window of cabin number one. It looked like a star beckoning to me.

I started slowly toward the light.

A little breeze had come up, and the light began to flicker I quickened my step and headed down the trail.

The End

Chapter 42

Chapter Forty-Two — Disaster

In another week the fresh water lake had gotten larger and it would soon be time to clean up that gold plated bottom again. I told Chuck and Jock that at the rate we are going we would be here for about two years if the darn thing held up like that first cleanup. There was no need to say more. Chuck had built a box made of a hard wood of some sort. It was firmly nailed together and he had wrapped the box with some heavy wire.

“It’s just fourteen inches square inside,” he said. “When it’s full of gold it will weigh exactly one ton and be worth one million dollars.”

We were feeling fine that night as we sat there in my cabin. Everything was working out perfectly. The laws of the country read that for every foreigner employed, we must hire ten natives. Jock was from British Honduras, and Chuck and I from the States so that meant that we must hire at least thirty people. The cost was very little.

“What the devil are we going to do with thirty people?” I had asked Jock.

He had taken care of everything. He had hired the three women and some guards, then hired guards to guard the guards. Then he hired men to build cabins for the guards and to dig a well, so it wouldn’t be long until we had a well-equipped camp. We might even build a golf course. I had written Bill telling him of our fine progress, told him to bring down the two millionaire boys from Texas any time, that we were ready for them and could show them gold.

One day I said, “Somebody’s got to go to Managua for supplies because we’re running out of a lot of things. One of you boys will have to make a trip to the city.”

“Why don’t you go?” Jock put in. “Don’t you think you would enjoy a trip to the city?”

“I must stay here. I came here to do a job and I’m going to get it done.”

“How about your friends?” asked Jock. “Have you forgotten them? You haven’t sent them as much as one letter.”

I looked at the little guy, saw he was dead serious.

“You should at least send a note,” he persisted.

I shook my head, “Jock, I know three very lovely girls in Managua. I have started to write to them many times, but always torn up the letters. I guess I can’t think of the right words. I guess I’m a little bit confused, Jock, so maybe it’s better to try to forget them.”

“No, Señor Joe, you cannot forget them.”

I knew he was telling me the truth.

I said goodnight to the boys and started for my cabin. I came to the big mud oven and saw the log the natives had dragged up and set by the fire that was still smoldering. I sat down on the log and looked up at the stars. I began thinking of Connie.

A scream broke the stillness a woman’s scream followed by a pistol shot. I leaped to my feet just as Chuck and Jock came running up.

“What the hell is going on?” cried Chuck.

Another scream came from one of the little cabins — cabin number three. We ran down the path, guns in hand. As we approached a lighted cabin, the door swung out. A man leaning against the door casing formed a silhouette. He looked as if he were resting. Suddenly his legs wilted from under him and he fell out and rolled over in the dirt.

We ran up to him, saw the gaping hole in his chest and knew he was dead. We went into the cabin. Here stood one of our guards — now a one-armed man. His other arm lay on the floor. Blood was squirting like a fountain from his shoulder. A big bloody machete lay at his feet, evidently dropped there by his attacker.

Standing by the bed, stark naked and screaming shrilly was one of our young native cooks. We could do nothing for the dead man outside, but the guard needed help, or he would soon bleed to death. Jock ran out and soon came back with a piece of wire. He twisted this around the stub of the man’s arm. The crude tourniquet would stop the bleeding until we could find better assistance.

Women from the other cabins came in and put clothes on the girl, then began to clean up the bloody mess. I ordered a couple of guards to hitch a team of oxen to the big two-wheel cart, load in the dead man and the one-armed guard and take them to town. When they reached town they were to go directly to the Judge and he would know what to do.

A little later when Jock, Chuck and I were in my cabin, Jock said, “I talked to the girl and another woman and this is what they told me: The dead man, Manual, was a friend of the girl, but the guard too had been courting her. The guard had stolen into the cabin where he shouldn’t have been. Manual came in and caught his girl with the guard. Manual tried to slash the guard’s head off with his machete. The guard, trying to fend off the machete, raised his arm and it was cut off. The guard’s .45 caliber pistol was laying there, so he had grabbed it with the other hand and shot him dead.”

Trouble like this was something we had hoped to prevent. The dead man’s relatives would probably blame us for what had happened. We must do something drastic for this must not occur again.

The next day the Judge came out, but he didn’t blame us for the accident. He suggested that we not hire any single women.

“They will only cause you trouble,” he said. And the Judge was right!

All the unmarried women were discharged. We paid them for sixty days extra, which was the law.

That was the day Chuck and Jock went to town. I had given them a list of supplies to bring back, also I had told them, “We need women to do our cooking, so bring some back from the city. Get homely ones, big and fat; the kind who won’t cause trouble.”

They had been gone over a week and I was getting worried. They should have been back days ago. I would sure give them hell when I saw them, but then I would sure be glad to see them….

I got up from my bunk and turned off the tape recorder. I had been talking for hours. I went outside and looked around and up at the sky. The moon was just going down. It was nearly morning. I had finished telling my story as far as it had gone. What next?

This was a hell of an ending, I thought. Life is a game all right, like a game of cards, and I hadn’t yet learned to play. I walked back into the cabin and lay down, hoping I could get a few hours of sleep.
