True Sensitivity

True Sensitivity

There is true sensitivity and then there is the sensitivity of illusion.

And what is the sensitivity of illusion? This generation ought to know for it is continually thrown in our face by politicians, activists and lawsuits.

Many pretenders are telling us they feel our pain when the only pain they really feel comes from the frustrations of their own selfish desires.

Many are complaining their sensitivities are painfully offended because someone is innocently using some word or phrase that seemed to hurt no one in the past through 200 years of use, but now has become to them an illusionary dagger to their sensitive heart.

Still others sue everyone in sight at the drop of a hat claiming millions of dollars of sensitive emotional damage and wind up looking so ridiculous that they make headlines in the National Enquirer.

Such is not the way of the sensitivity of the disciple.

The disciple is indeed sensitive and is highly aware of others’ feelings as well as his own, but the concerning selfish indignation that is infecting our society, he has none.

All insults, real or imagined, all negative thoughts and feelings of others, and all attacks are registered in his physical brain and responded to when it fills a purpose, but he or she lets the negativity pass through him so his state of mind, soul contact and peace are not affected.

The true sensitivity of the disciple is multi-leveled.

Level One: He acquires a sincere desire to understand and help people and this directs his attention to their spiritual needs and concerns. After a period of time this focused attention brings forth his soul abilities to tune into the emotions, feelings and some thoughts of those contacts.

We received several comments on this level. Diane says:

“This ability has caused me problems at times but I’d rather have this ability than not.”

Then Jennifer says: “I’d also add that sensitivity to others can be a curse unless a person is able to allow the pain, suffering, anxiety, depression and despair of others to flow through without feeling it is his/hers or she has to live it, or hold on to it or become involved in it.”

It is true that when this level of sensitivity is reached that part of the seeker wants to run from it because he really does feel the pain of his contacts, not so much in the physical sense but in a spiritual sense, but discomforting nevertheless. He or she will say to himself something like this: “I wish this sensitivity to the painful feelings of others would go away (but then he reflects and says) No! It is uncomfortable, but I know it is giving me greater power to serve and I sense I am progressing to a greater point in spiritual evolution where new abilities will come and the discomfort will diminish.”

Level Two: The disciple becomes sensitive to the vibration of contact through the soul. These contacts will be the Higher Self or members of the Brotherhood stimulating your soul. This level is an octave higher than normal psychism that is claimed by so many. Most who have psychic powers believe they are at this level, but few are. This disciple learns that the difference between lower and higher psychism is not a difference between devils and angels. It is the difference between contact with well meaning human type entities and the higher vibration of the inhabitants of the Kingdom of God.

Level Three: The disciple becomes sensitive to the difference in vibration of his Spiritual Self through the soul and contract from the Masters through the soul.

Level Four: The disciple becomes sensitive to Spiritual Impression. Alice A. Bailey calls this the “science of impression,” but doesn’t tell us much about it.

Spiritual Impression is indeed a science, but a science had by no recognized scientists on this earth. Instead it is a science studied in the halls of the greater lives called the Masters and beyond to even extra planetary beings.

Through the use of the science of impression one of the Great Ones can transmit several books worth of information in an instant through the language of principles to the mind of the receiving disciple. Very few disciples have reached this point but many are preparing for it.

Level Five: The disciple becomes sensitive to the Mind of God (for want of a better word). When this level of sensitivity is reached knowledge of all principles becomes available for the asking.

There are other branch levels between these five and still others before the first level is reached, but this gives us a nutshell version of where we should aspire.

Are there levels after five? Yes, but they would be meaningless for us to discuss.

This leads us to another hint about the sixteenth quality. He who possesses it will be much more interested in the five levels of which he can have some conception, rather than things above level five that have no meaning to his present consciousness.

He who has not yet arrived at full disciple consciousness will dwell on ultimate realities as if he has already arrived there, even if he has no comprehension of what they are nor can he communicate such realities to others by means of words of understanding.

The sixteenth quality is balance. The disciple lives in the world but is not of the world. Even so he must live in balance with both worlds. The beginner will be so enamored with spiritual contact that he wants to take his attention off the physical world and dwell 100% in the spiritual to the exclusion of the physical. This causes a difficulty of communication between him and others in what is commonly called the “real world,” real to us anyway. When this happens he loses influence with his physical brothers and often winds up being viewed as a dreamer or a fruitcake. He thus ends up being of little use to the Brotherhood of Light because they need disciples as reliable points of contact in this world.

I said earlier that this quality will often cause conflict between seekers in contact with the disciple. Why do you suppose this is? Can you think of other reasons why this balance is so essential?

Trust

7/4/99

Trust

Let us itemize the discussed qualities so far:

(1) Soul contact

(2) Holding the mind steady in the light

(3) Detachment when necessary.

(4) The ability to either send or receive

(5) Reflection – contemplation

(6) Talent.

(7) The power to initiate

(8) The ability to create and sense a point of tension.

(9) Willingness to sacrifice

(10) Discernment

(11) Perseverance

(12) Inclusiveness

(13) Harmlessness

(14) Sensitivity

(15) Trust

Question concerning number 15: What are the areas where the disciple needs to demonstrate his trustworthiness as far as the inner teachers are concerned?

How much should he trust others?

How many times have each of us met someone in our lives who said something like this to us: “What’s the matter don’t you trust me?” This then seems to play upon the person’s guilt and he often gives in thinking he is doing a virtuous act and trusts the person whom he does not know that well with valuables of some kind.

Then, a short time after the trust was given, the person who trusted finds himself totally betrayed.

After this happens two or three times the trusting one often turns to the other extreme and then trusts no one and often becomes bitter.

Both of these extremes are in bad judgment and not the way of the disciple.

The example of the Brotherhood of Light is a good light for us to follow here.

As one approaches discipleship and gains a desire to serve he tackles the problems of maya, controls his physical body and passions. Once this is accomplished, does the Brotherhood the trust him?

Not yet.

Why?

Because he can still be led completely astray by glamour and wind up doing more harm than good for the work.

Is he of no use then?

He can be of great use, but the Brotherhood does not trust him to always take the right path for they know he is going to do take wrong paths several times yet. They will use him a much as possible with this in mind, but cannot give him or her the great responsibilities.

As the disciple progresses on the path he eventually overcomes glamour and is no longer deceived through wrong emotions, overblown ego and most guilt.

Does the Brotherhood now trust him?

Their trust in him is increased as well as his power to serve, but still he is not trusted to always follow the path of light and therefore is still limited in endowments trusted to him.

Why?

Because he is not yet free from the great problem of illusion which can trap a person with reasonable purity, ego under wraps and a strong desire to serve.

Then in the next round of progress the disciple slays this seemingly last dragon in the path and stands free of illusion, glamour and maya.

Is he now trusted?

Yes. He is now given a high degree of trust that he will not stray toward the left hand path and his responsibilities are increased according to his talents and abilities.

So is he trusted completely?

No one is trusted to never make mistakes. Even now the trust given to him will be with the realization that mistakes will be made, but the vision of the path will remain.

Is it not possible then that an adept can fall to the dark side?

No matter how high we go we always have free will. However, while walking in the light after basic illusion is overcome the light is almost impossible to betray. Nevertheless, there does come another round of temptation when one progresses to a higher level as illustrated by the fall of Lucifer in the Bible.

Here is a comment on this made by Djwhal Khul:

“Again, in the council chamber of the Most High, there has not always been peace and understanding, but at times, war and disruption; this is made abundantly clear by several of the stories in the Old Testament. Symbolically speaking, some of the sons of God fell from their high estate, led, at one time, by “Lucifer, Son of the Morning”. This “fall of the angels” was a tremendous event in the history of our planet, but was nevertheless only a passing and interesting phenomenon in the history of the solar system,”

Esoteric Psychology, Vol 1 pages 394-5

The disciple follows the example of the Brotherhood of Light and makes others earn trust before he gives it to them unconditionally. He always tries to give others the “benefit of the doubt,” but where great harm can result by a betrayal he becomes very cautious and will watch his associates carefully until he can ascertain which parts of their makeup can be trusted and which cannot, which circumstances they will handle correctly and which they will not.

Even though one who trusts too much may be a great guy and have a strong desire to serve such a one cannot yet be an accepted disciple for he may wind up trusting a part of the work to a con man who could destroy the whole.

Next we’ll talk about balance and in the meantime give you the seventeenth quality.

Rick said something to the effect that if courage is not one of the qualities it should be. I agree, but many show significant courage before discipleship is reached. A certain type of courage is looked for that reaches past the physical to the astral and mental levels and beyond. Djwhal Khul teaching through Alice A. Bailey beautifully coined the phrase “Divine Carelessness,” but said virtually nothing about it. Nevertheless, this quality of courage we shall call the art of being divinely careless is the characteristic looked for.

Contemplate this enigmatic phrase and tell us… Why in the world would this be a quality that is looked for? How do you suppose divine carelessness is different from the standard carelessness we see all about us?

Glenys just presented a great account of the dangers the signers of the Declaration faced. Were they divinely careless?

Practicing Harmlessness

7/1/1999

Practicing Harmlessness

Let us itemize the qualities of the disciple we have presented so far:

(1) Soul contact

(2) Holding the mind steady in the light

(3) Detachment when necessary.

(4) The ability to either send or receive

(5) Reflection – contemplation

(6) Talent.

(7) The power to initiate

(8) The ability to create and sense a point of tension.

(9) Willingness to sacrifice

(10) Discernment

(11) Perseverance

(12) Inclusiveness

(13) Harmlessness

(14) Sensitivity

I believe we left off on harmlessness which needs to be summarized. This is an interesting one to bring up at this time as it seems to some that we have had harmfulness bouncing back and forth in this group.

We need to look at the basic guiding key here which was given by Dave:

“The key to following the harmless path is having the ability to discern whether or not a particular act/invention/teaching will benefit more people in the long run than it harms.”

Now let us look at our current situation in relation to this. We had a potential conflict point arise. Were we correct in responding to it or should we pretend that disharmony does not exist and ignore it, hoping it will go away?

What we have to do is follow Dave’s advice here. We must do our best to peer into the future and see the results of our decisions and then follow the path least harmful.

Many are deceived into thinking that the avoidance of conflict is the least harmful path, but this is often not the case. This avoidance of conflict in individual lives often causes a suppression of emotion and such suppression often results in depletion of energy and life-threatening disease. Sometimes such suppression will result in eventual emotional explosion where the guy walks into a MacDonald’s and shoots everyone in sight.

The people who knew him will say something like: “I can’t believe he did that. He was such a nice quiet guy.”

He was quiet all right, quietly festering his negative emotions.

A person has to use judgment and not pick at straws. Some of you have noticed there have been a number of challenging comments in the past that I have ignored. In these cases I have judged this to be the harmless path, but when an important issue surfaces that is likely to come up again and again the best time to put all feelings, facts and discussions on the table is the present.

As it is if we do not take a stand on teaching the importance of union in singing the Song it would not be long before a dozen group members would be promoting a dozen different versions to the point that new members would be confused as to what version they are supposed to say and have no idea about the potential union possible.

When conflict does arise there are several rules of engagement in following the harmless path.

(1) No name-calling or intentional insulting

(2) No matter how rough the waters are, look upon the opposing person’s soul and see the Christ within, worthy of your love and understanding.

(3) The person you are in conflict with may feel you have a grudge against him so as soon as your views are presented give an increase of love to show that you hold no grievance.

(4) In the midst of the conflict try and find points of agreement and positive things to say about the person in question

(5) Make sure nothing disturbs your inner piece and only allow yourself to hold good feelings toward all involved. This is only accomplished through the making of a definite decision.

It takes a lot of wisdom to follow the harmless path because many actions we can take that seem to be beneficial can be harmful. Then there are others that seem to be harmful that are the harmless path in the long run.

For instance, it would seem to be a good thing to do all you can to enlighten everyone you can, but there are many people who are not ready for higher truth and it would be harmful to them to bring them into it before they are ready. This is why the working through free will is so important.

I have to admit my favorite quote from the group comes from Marylin:

“If doing NO harm turns me into a wimp, then so be it.”

Then she almost topped this by saying:

“I have also recently found that by blessing the porno Spam, it has become less all by itself.”

I had to chuckle at the image of Marylin blessing porno Spam.

Sometimes you have to make an aggressive or gutsy move to follow the harmless path, but then there are many other times you will look like a wimp and have to take some ribbing for it. When this occurs we will all need Marylin’s attitude and say: “What the hell, if I look like a wimp, so be it.”

Examples:

(1) Your friends are all passing around a harmful, but stimulating drug. You feel it will be harmful to your body so you refuse and look like a wimp.

(2) You bump into a guy who insults your mother. You decide to smile at him and be on your way. Your friends really think you have wimped out here.

(3) Your spouse/lover calls you a bastard and you do not throw an insult back, but try and show love instead. Now even he/she calls you a wimp.

The group has said some great things about this subject. Allow me to quote:

It gets a bit tricky deciding what is harmful. A person might say that someone who mugged them, harmed them. This is true in some ways. But it might not be true in the sense that such an event might actually be just what that person needed as a way of balancing his/her own violent behavior toward others in a past life (a bit like Elizabeth with her MS).

Now let us contemplate quality number 15 – trust

Question: What are the areas where the disciple needs to demonstrate his trustworthiness as far as the inner teachers are concerned?

How much should he trust others?

The Choir

6/29/99

The Choir

There was once a choir of about a hundred singers that were given a beautiful Song to sing. The singers examined the Song and tested it privately and each was edified thereby and eventually joined together in union to sing. Each singer added his particular quality and talent, but they all sang the same words and the same melody and when joined together were amazed at the beauty and majesty which every listener heard.

All seemed happy with this for a period of time and most loved the Song to the extent that they memorized the words and often sang it in their private moments.

Then one of the singers in contemplation felt he could improve the Song by altering or eliminating some of the words. He then sang it with the altered words to himself and also found the cadence and melody was somewhat changed to fit the new arrangement of words.

He sang the new version several times to himself and decided this was an improved version that he would now sing whenever the Song was sung. He was excited about presenting this to the choir.

On the next gathering he presented the new version to the singers. Several said they liked it and a couple others said they had the same idea but had altered the words in a different way that pleased them individually. But then the great majority expressed their opinion that the Song was best in its original form and they desired to continue singing it that way

Then one of the choir members spoke:

“This Song was written by a Master Songwriter geared to the edification and needs of this very group. If you want to sing altered words for your benefit only I would say that would be OK, but if we are going to sing it as a group we should honor the author’s purpose, for in sending forth this originating purpose we have no right to make a change. If we each sing different words then the Song will no longer be beautiful.

The one who altered the words then said: “But my intent is union; therefore, my joining in can only enhance the beauty of the singing.

This sounded like strange reasoning to the group but because of love and respect all were invited to join in and sing the Song together.

Most sang the Song in its original form but about a half dozen sang their own words in three different versions.

That which had been beautiful and joyful for the whole had now turned into a cacophony of sound that made some feel like running out the room and finding a quiet place.

Finally the choir director spoke:

“Stop! We cannot have this! This wonderful choir sounds very disharmonious and is even painful to the ear.”

Then he who changed the words spoke:

“I heard nothing but beauty and felt nothing but bliss for I was tuning into the inner meaning and beauty of the Song as we sang. If everyone would do as I do then all would be harmonious again.”

The director spoke in return:

“The majority of us are committed to the original intent of the Song and do not wish to alter it. As I see it there are two alternatives.

“The first alternative is that we could continue the group choir and just let everyone sing their own version and all try to tune in and make the best of it.”

He then asked the choir what they thought of this idea.

All but a couple thought this was a terrible idea. “How can there be true inner peace when there is no outer peace?” said one. “When we sang the Song in its original form we had both because out attention was pure, but now it is divided.

The director was silent for a moment and said:

“The second alternative is for those of you who want to change the Song to form your own separate choir and sing together. Then perhaps you can have outward as well as inward harmony. Then those of us who desire the original Song can sing with power and oneness as before.”

Then he who altered the words spoke:

“No. I do not desire to leave this choir. I love each of you and enjoy you association.”

“And we love you too,” said the director, “but to fulfill our purpose I must insist that all who sing together be united outwardly as well as inwardly, else the choir will lose interest and disperse and be no more.”

“You obviously do not see the same vision of the Song that I do,” said the man.

“Maybe not,” said the director, “but all must follow the highest they know and those of us who are united with the Song believe the original version is the best for our abilities and purpose.

“But I want to Sing with you,” said the man.

“Then sing with us in unison,” said the director. “There is no other way to give the song power as a group life.”

“I cannot,” said the man, “for I have seen a better way.”

“Then follow that way,” said the director, ‘but you cannot insist that we go with you. We will continue our association with you outside of the choir as long as you desire, and you are welcome back in whenever you are one with us.”

Then the director gathered those who wished to sing the original Song and the group sang anew and many heard the beauty and joined in with the choir and eventually split into numerous choirs and filled the world with the new Song that lifted the hearts of all.

From time to time there were others who sought to improve there Song and altered the words and meaning. Some attempted to form their own choirs thinking they would have great success with an improved version. A few gathered here and there to sing altered versions, but they did not grow because they had no group union and one by one they dissipated and the altered words were remembered no more.

Awareness of the Negative

6/28/99

Awareness of the Negative

I received a criticism that the use of “destructive forces” in the Song of the 144,000 was negative and should be changed.

When I say the Song I see no destructive forces, but in the first verse, for instance, I see the light manifesting from God until there is no darkness or illusion. I see the light as an energy that destructive force has no desire to approach. Actually saying the words “destructive forces” with no fear of destructive forces concretizes the positive thought in the physical brain that places one in a place that evil cannot approach.

Since it is important that all who say (sing) the Song do so from a viewpoint of understanding I thought I would make some more comments.

Some question the wisdom of using words like “protection” and “negative forces.” The feeling of these people is that the acknowledging that protection is necessary gives energy to it and creates the need for protection that did not exist before that point. Many also feel that by acknowledging there are negative forces feeds the negative and gives them power.

On the contrary, let us take the state of homelessness and poverty that exists throughout the world. Now let us suppose that all those who have abundance decided that the words “poverty” and “homeless” were negative words and decided to never use them and attempted to put themselves in a state of mind as if the poor did not exist.

What would be the result?

The result would be that there would be none who would be advocating helping the poor because they could not even mention them and soon the poor of the world would be completely ignored.

I can see it now – the positive person only using positive words as abundance and prosperity as he steps over a homeless beggar because he does not even see him in his reality.

What good is some individual bliss, or even love, if it is not extended down to the so-called negative states so it interplays in the world of duality?

I have watched people throughout my life who fit into three categories.

(1) The extra positive person who makes an effort to not even think a negative thought or say a negative word.

(2) The opposite person who always seems to dwell on the negative.

(3) The person who is positive in attitude, but has no qualms about using a negative word or examining or planning for negative situations.

From my observations I have found that the least successful of these three categories is number one. Now the extra negative people usually do not enjoy high success, but I have been surprised how many of them are moderately successful.

The most successful of these three is number three. He expects the positive, but is prepared to deal with the negative that does surface from time to time.

The situation of the free world previous to World War II illustrates my point. A great war had just been fought and won and no one wanted to even think about the possibility of another war because World War I was the “war to end all wars.” Many peace groups started up with a positive consciousness similar to numerous new age groups today. There was also a boon in channeling and Spirit contact and almost without exception all spiritualists were predicting and speaking only peace up to the final week that the World War actually began.

Many of these groups refused to even consider that war may break out and carefully censored themselves thinking that a purely positive use of words would influence Hitler.

On hindsight it seemed as if the whole free world was asleep to the dangers that awaited them. If they had been aware they would have been able to prepare.

Was there anyone who saw things for what they were, who was “sensitive” to the negative as well as positive possibilities?

There was one man, and unfortunately only one public figure, who dared see the potential negative as well as positive. His name was Winston Churchill.

When he first heard the name Hitler, about seven years before the war something in his soul spoke to him and told him that this man was going to become a great danger to the world. So what did his soul do? Did it tell him to only think positive thoughts and Hitler would go away.

No, thank God.

Churchill felt strongly impressed through the soul (and telepathic messages from the Brotherhood) to warn the world of this man and this is what he diligently attempted to do.

For the next seven years, suffering through much criticism and ridicule, he warned the world about the coming Nazi threat. For seven years he concentrated almost entirely on the growing negative situation and was a thorn in the side to the positive feel-good people he saw around him.

Finally when Hitler invaded Poland and England saw that war was upon them because they blissfully were asleep to the negative, a wakening occurred. And who did they turn to?

Mister negative himself. They got rid of mister positive – Chamberlain – and replaced him with Churchill as Prime Minister.

Every time I think of this event I do so with a thankful heart, for after studying World War II I firmly believe that Hitler would have won the war if it were not for Churchill.

The interesting thing is shortly after he became prime minister he gave one of the most positive speeches in the history of the world, the “we will never surrender” speech. This speech was definitely inspired by the Great Ones. I felt moved to tears when I read it.

Now getting back to the Song. The main purpose of the Song at this time is to bring down protection for the Lights of this little planet, for those who will actively work to make the needed changes to bring in the New Age of peace and abundance.

In every past age, despite all attempts to be positive, a very high percentage of these workers have been killed.

The Christ, the greatest of all, was crucified and eleven of his disciples plus thousands of others were killed with torture and violence.

Look at any time in history where disciples worked for positive change and you will see that these brave souls went through tremendous persecution to accomplish their missions.

This age it must be different. And that difference will come not through the focusing on the positive alone, for we live in a world of dualities. Many disciples in ages past tried to concentrate on the positive alone and yet found themselves in traps because of lack of preparation for the negative.

The purpose of the Song is to give us the spiritual protection we need so the physical lives of the disciples will be protected from persecution and their thoughts and feelings will be protected from psychic attacks from the Lords of Darkness.

The Song must be said unselfishly. It is true that the saying of it brings peace and personal benefits, but this should not be the prime goal. The prime objective should have the whole group in mind. When you see the light and Love and Power manifesting see it manifesting and helping all the group. If this is done successfully with the same thoughts and words then each individual will receive more spiritual energy than he could possibly give out. But we must be united in thought and word and deed to make this happen. The power we have received from the Song is only a slight foreshadowing of that which is to come if the singing of it is not corrupted.

I want to end by stressing the need for unselfishness in using the gifts of the Spirit. While it is true that Jesus did still the winds, partially due to his inner peace, you will notice that in His three temptations he refused to do any miracle that benefited Himself alone. Every miracle that He performed was to benefit someone else. Even the quieting of the storm was to save His friends.

In our personal lives we are expected to do all we can for ourselves before we receive any help of a miraculous nature. This is why the second son in the parable was not protected. There were many things he could have done to prepare and he did not use the tools God gave him to do so. If anyone was deserving of a miracle it would have been the first son who used all his resources wisely.

I’ll end with a quote from Chapter 46 of he Aquarian Gospel.

IT was a holy day and Jesus walked upon the Athens beach.

2 A storm was on and ships were being tossed about like toys upon the bosom of the sea.

3 The sailors and the fishermen were going down to watery graves; the shores were strewn with bodies of the dead.

4 And Jesus halted not, but with a mighty power he rescued many a helpless one, oft bringing back to life the seeming dead.

5 Now, on these shores were altars sacred to the gods supposed to rule the seas.

6 And men and women, heedless of the cries of drowning men were crowding all about these altars calling on their gods for help.

7 At length the storm was done, and all the sea was calm, and men could think again; and Jesus said,

8 You worshippers of wooden gods, how has the fury of this storm been lessened by your frantic prayers?

9 Where is the strength of these poor, weather-beaten gods with painted swords and crowns?

10 A god that could abide in such a little house could hardly hold a frantic fly, and who could hope that he could hold at bay the Lords of winds and waves?

11 The mighty powers of worlds unseen do not give forth their help till men have done their best; they only help when men can do no more.

12 And you have agonised and prayed around these shrines, and let men sink to death who might have been, by your assistance, saved.

13 The God that saves dwells in your souls, and manifests by making use of your own feet, and legs, and arms, and hands.

14 Strength never comes through idleness; nor through a waiting for another one to bear your loads, or do the work that you are called to do.

15 But when you do your best to bear your loads, and do your work, you offer unto God a sacrifice well-pleasing in his sight.

16 And then the Holy One breathes deep upon your glowing sacrificial coals, and makes them blaze aloft to fill your souls with light, and strength and helpfulness.

17 The most efficient prayer that men can offer to a god of any kind is helpfulness to those in need of help; for what you do for other men the Holy One will do for you.

18 And thus God helps.
