Judgment

Judgment

The scripture that says “judge not” is the most misunderstood scripture in the Bible. Let us quote it and see what Jesus was really saying:

Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.” Matt 7:1-5

Here Jesus is NOT telling us that we cannot judge, but is instead warning us of the law of karma if we judge harshly or incorrectly, for he says: “with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.” Therefore, if you judge someone with minor faults to have major faults, this harsh judgment will come back to haunt you.

In this scripture He gives the key for righteous judgment: “first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.” In other words, concentrate on eliminating your own faults first, and then you will be able to make a correct judgment as to how to help your brother (or sister).

Here is another scripture illustrating even more clearly that Jesus was talking about the law of karma:

Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Luke 6:36-38

Here He is simply saying that if we judge rashly, condemning our brother and not forgiving him, we will reap what we have sown and find condemnation coming back to us. Jesus gives us a guide in using the power of judgment correctly:

“I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.” John 5:30

As we seek to become one with God and follow His will, then the beam clogging our vision will be removed and our judgment will also be just. Here is an interesting scripture where Jesus actually tells us to judge:

“Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” John 7:24

Judge with clarity wisdom and love, and when you di this and later judged, as you have judged, all will be well with you, but if you do not judge righteously, then the law of karma will bring painful judgments to your door.

Finally Jesus tells his twelve apostles that they shall be judges:

“And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” Matt 19:28

When you think of it, it is silly to say we should not judge. As soon as you wake in the morning you make a judgment as to whether to get up or sleep a while longer. When you get in the shower you make a judgment as to when you are clean enough to get out. When you eat breakfast you make a judgment as to what you will have and how much.

When you drive to work and are a little late you make a judgment as to whether you are going to speed or not. Finally you get to work and meet the new guy who was just hired. He wants to be your best friend and now you make a judgment on whether or not you want this type of personality in your life. Then your boss wants you to dig up some dirt on the boss above him. You judge your boss to be wrong and refuse.

We could go on and on here, but hopefully we get the point. Judgments are not wrong. Only wrong judgments are wrong. Every quality and ability has a positive and negative side to it. When the Bible and A Course in Miracles talks about judgment in a negative light, they are talking about negative, limiting judgments.

Example: The kid tells the parent he is going to get straight A’s next time around and the parent says: “You’ve failed miserably in the past, so you’re going to fail again.” This is a cruel and limiting judgment.

A positive judgment would be something like this: “I have seen you make progress in the past when you make an effort and I do believe you have it in you to dramatically improve your grades.” Here the parent made a judgment on the positive possibilities of the child, and in this case judgment is a good thing.

Judgment 101

Concerning judgment, I do make a judgment as to when I am clean in the shower because I am usually in a big hurry when I do so and get out as soon as I judge myself clean. My wife gives me a bad time about showering so fast. She goes on automatic pilot and takes her time. It is true that many of our actions are habits and not predicated on judgment, but many are not.

I received some comments indicating that all judgments are bad so I will say a few more words. Indeed negative judgments can be very destructive, but some act as if all judgments are bad and this is not logical. Without judgment, every decision we make would be random and lead to destruction. As Rick said it would lead to a state of non livingness.

A reader states: “I believe if Jesus had made one judgment while on that cross, he would have crucified his body completely, and not resurrected. It is possible to cease judgment. It comes through statement of fact for me.”

Jesus made several judgments while on the cross. He made a judgment that John was the one who should take care of his mother and he complied. He made a judgment that it was still worthwhile to petition God to forgive those who crucified Him. He made a judgment to not call on angels to deliver Him. He made a judgment to be silent when accused. None of these judgments were the result of an automatic pilot.

Question: “How could we judge love, how could we judge happiness, did the Christ really live these states of mind?”

I judge love all the time. My judgment tells me that there is a lot of love among the members of this group. I know that this judgment does not interfere with any soul contact.

I also judge myself to be reasonably happy.

I think we just need to define our terms better and then it would be difficult to disagree. A Course in Miracles went overboard to make a point about negative judgment just as the Apostle Paul did about being saved by grace. The disciples of both took the interpretation too literally and swung too far over on the pendulum.

Final Judgment

Most people hear the word “judgment” and they immediately conjure up in their minds the act of sitting in judgment of what is right or wrong, moral or immoral, about the actions or quality of another human being. This is the negative aspect of judgment and we need to be very careful in dealing with it.

But beyond this is the positive aspect. Before any decision appears to the eye, two paths open up before the intelligent pilgrim. Before the decision is made, the entity examines the two paths, then weighs the benefits of each and makes a judgment as to which one to take. After the judgment process is over, a DECISION is made. Decision and judgment go hand in hand.

Without this positive aspect of judgment, decisions would be random and lead to strange paths.

The True Student

May 2, 1999

The True Student

The Question was: What qualities in the student show that he is ready?

I thought I’d make a few comments on this subject since the feeling of many in the new age community is that there is no difference between students and teachers or that such a relationship is misled. That is, many feel that if there is a student teacher relationship, it means that the student must experience the humiliation of being at a “lower level”. Since this seems disgusting to many, they instead teach that there are no teachers and no leaders, but all are teachers and leaders and all are students and followers.

Unfortunately, this is an illusionary concept that interrupts evolution as all illusion does. I have already written a major article on this, and it is the first posting in the archives.

For those of you have not read this, I would suggest you do so in order to understand where we are coming from.

In addition to that, let us reexamine a true teaching situation: The Spanish teacher knows the language, teaching those who do not know. Does this have anything to do with belief systems?

None.

Either the teacher knows Spanish (algebra or whatever) or he does not. Attaining a position of a true teacher has to do with the acquisition of knowledge, not belief.

Who wants to learn from a teacher who just has some nebulous belief system? A student willing to do so gets what he deserves.

In addition to there being true teachers, there are true students. The true student desires to acquire true knowledge, not a belief system. The productive student realizes that knowledge is useful and belief is illusionary. The true student tests the teacher and makes sure that the teacher is one who is capable of leading him or her to greater knowledge.

The efficient student (or one who is really learning) does not see himself as on a “lower level.” Instead, he sees himself as one who is progressing to a “higher level.”

May the Truth be Revealed

I received several objections to my post concerning the true student. Here are some with my response

Objection: “I do not find being a student to be humiliating.”

JJ Comment: I was pointing out that many (but not all) in the new age community follow the same trend of thought. Neither being a student or a teacher should be humiliating as we all go through cycles in both modes.

Objection: “Is it necessarily true that the ‘teacher’ will be more advanced than the ‘student’ in ALL areas of knowledge?”

JJ Comment: No. I have never taught or thought such a thing. A teacher, however, must have more knowledge than the student in the subject being taught, else both are wasting their time.

Objection: “Cannot each teach the other something? Cannot the Spanish speaker teach Spanish and the English speaker teach English and each be the others’ student and each the others’ teacher?”

JJ Comment: Of course we all have something to teach each other but if you go to a Spanish class to learn the language you do not go there with the idea of teaching the teacher a language he or she does not know. You go there to be a student. In each situation we are in the teaching (sending) mode or the student (receiving). Trying to do both at the same time is not productive.

Let me quote again the sentence that seems to be a problem to some: “Since this seems disgusting to many, they instead teach that there are no teachers and no leaders, but all are teachers and leaders and all are students and followers.”

“Either the teacher knows Spanish (algebra or whatever) or he does not. To attain a position of a true teacher has to do with the acquisition of knowledge, not belief.

“Who wants to learn from a teacher who just teaches some nebulous belief system? A student willing to subject himself gets what he deserves.”

Objection: “Here is where the issue of humiliation enters the picture. And it is not a matter of the student ‘feeling’ humiliated, but a matter of the teacher actually humiliating the student by insisting on being seen as an absolute authority.”

JJ Comment: On any given day there are millions of students attending some class being taught by a teacher who is sharing knowledge the students do not yet have. You rarely can find one that feels humiliated unless he is just not doing the work and fails his tests. A teacher has to be somewhat of an earned authority on what he is teaching or he will be useless. A good teacher is anything but a tyrant but shares what he knows with students who are attending the class through free will.

Objection: “It is disempowering of the individual to give away their power to a teacher by choosing to believe that the teacher has absolute truths of knowledge.”

JJ Comment: It is not disempowering to find absolute truth in the writings of a teacher, a personal experience, or a book. If I teach that 2+2 = 4 and you find out that is absolutely true, that gives you power to do math. It does not take away your power. Such a thought is illusion.

The teacher is only abusing his power if he teachers falsehoods and insists they be accepted as true.

Where many students do give away their power, is by blindly accepting a teacher as an authority and his statements as true, without first testing them to make sure the teacher knows what he is talking about.

JJ Quote: “In addition to there being true teachers, there are true students. The true student desires to acquire true knowledge, not a belief system. The true student realizes that knowledge is useful and belief is often illusionary. The true student tests the teacher and makes sure that the teacher is one who is capable of leading him or her to greater knowledge.

“The wise student (or one who is really learning) does not see himself as on a ‘lower level’. Instead, he sees himself as one who is progressing to a ‘higher level’.”

Objection: “The trouble with many spiritual teachers is they set themselves up as an absolute authority that must be totally accepted.”

JJ Comment: That does happen, but I do not follow this course. All who study my teachings are free to question and choose to accept that part which they wish to incorporate in their lives and belief systems.

Objection: “It is a standard practice of the forces of darkness to use covert manipulation to lead those of the light astray into the darkness, by presenting just enough truth to get the innocent to follow them as authorities, and then mix their deceptive teachings of darkness with the teachings of light. A true teacher would warn the student of this possibility, and that the student should never fully trust a teacher.”

JJ Comment: On this point I agree and I have warned of this in numerous ways. The most potent warning was in my book, The Immortal, through the character of Philo. This presentation probably demonstrates the subtleties of deception better than just teaching it directly. I have received many positive letters commenting on this section of the book.

Objection: “If you meet the Buddha upon the road, kill him.”

JJ Comment: People think this is a cool statement, but when you think about it, it is stupid. Suppose the first student of the Buddha killed him? The world would have missed a great light and the mission of Christ would not have been as successful as it was.

I believe the point of the original writer was that we should avoid any absolute authority outside of inner soul contact, but I would call this a bad choice of words.

When another great teacher incarnated after the Buddha, who was Jesus, they did crucify him. So do you think those who sentenced Jesus to death achieved greater enlightenment than those who sat at his feet and listened?

I don’t think so.

Objection: Do you claim to be a Buddha or a Christ?

JJ Response: I make no claims about myself. My actual teachings and the vibration they register with one’s soul is my only claim of authority.

Objection: “You need to place discernment above the acceptance of the authority of a teacher.”

JJ Response: Discernment is indeed an important point I continually stress. Those who read a small section of my writings may not see this, but those who read a larger amount will see it stressed continuously.

We will soon be presenting a number of keys that will assist students in discerning the truth.

End of the Dark Night

April 30, 1999

End of the Dark Night

I read the group’s posts and see that we have received some interesting accounts of “dark nights.”

Most of you seem pretty optimistic despite your dark periods, and this is good, as several of you believe you have left behind the loneliness forever. I was hoping for such optimism, because I know that there are a number of people in the group who need words of encouragement.

I know from experience that the problems of life can sometimes be overwhelming, but I also know that when we stay focused on the good and keep moving forward, following the highest we know, we eventually see that there is ALWAYS a light at the end of the tunnel.

When a light is turned on in the darkness, the darkness is no more. Darkness cannot extinguish light, but light can cause darkness to immediately disappear. I sincerely hope your words of faith and light turn on a light in others who are struggling, so they will be able to make it through the dark periods. The joy after a period of darkness and struggle is greater than the peace of one who only basks in the light.

During my dark night I was encouraged by this scripture: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God…” Rom 8:28

It is true as some pointed out that darkness and light come in cycles. This is so until the light of the Spirit manifested through the soul is reached. When the light then becomes fullness, a person does not have to return to the dark unless he chooses to do so.

Why would one make such a choice? For only one reason, to reach and teach their brothers and sisters.

As I said earlier, there is a dark night that is particularly severe before a person finds his group. Now I’m not talking about a physical group such as this one, but a group of blended minds on the soul level that is contacted by the seeker. Such contact lifts all darkness, depression and loneliness that he is passing through.

Now a physical group (or should we say semi physical) group such as the Keysters can be a big help for anyone having spiritual difficulty. Hopefully, loving groups such as this will be able to lessen the effects of struggling disciples in the future. We are indeed fortunate to live in a time where the Internet is available. In times past, even a Master had difficulty in gathering together a group of this quality. I know there is no way I could do it by running ads in my local paper here. I am thankful to be living in such interesting times.

As you go through your final dark night before contact, you will be observed by inner teachers who await your arrival. These inner teachers, along with other disciples of similar evolution to yourself, form an invisible group mind that you become one with, when you reach the light at the end of the tunnel. When this is reached and you advance to greater oneness, then this realization of oneness turns on a light that immediately dispels the dark night.

Before this happens, the disciple will go through many periods of light and darkness over a period of numerous lives, but the final one will be different from the rest. The isolation and loneliness will be very profound.

Now my friends, it is time to move on to the next level of learning. After much contemplation I have decided to present to you two great principles that I planned to first present in the Immortal Books. My original plan was to present these two principles first in the Immortal series and then amplify them further in two separate books of pure teachings. Because of limited time and the fact that I am behind on writing the Immortal books, I will reverse the procedure and present these two principles first on the teaching level.

We will briefly cover the first principle and then cover the second in detail. After that we will return to the first and cover it in much greater detail.

The interesting thing about this first principle is that this teaching is covered in great detail in the Bible, and is perhaps the prime teaching of that collection of books, but you will never hear a sermon on it in any church that I know of. This principle is a mystery that all readers of the Bible see but do not see.

The scripture hinting at the first great principle is:

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

“And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” Matt 24:29-31

We have already covered the first part of this scripture in detail. If you do not remember, or have not read it, read my previous posts.

In those postings we gave you the interpretation that the Sign of the Son of Man was the Atomic Bomb exploded in 1945. This means that the fulfillment of verse 31 will happen sometime between 1945 and the Second Coming of Christ. Let me repeat this important verse:

“And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” Matt 24:31

Questions: Who are the angels? A concordance would come in handy here.

What is the sound of a trumpet?

Who will be gathered and where? What could the purpose of this gathering be? Does this concept resonate with you?

The Gathering of Lights

The standard interpretation of Matthew 24:31 is interesting. Many Christians believe something like this:

Near the Second Coming, the whole earth will hear a great sound of a trumpet, and then millions of angels will descend and rapture up all believers who have mouthed a nebulous affirmation of Jesus. Then fire will descend and burn all the wicked as stubble. After this, the believers will float back down to a Garden of Eden type of new earth and live with God forever while they sharpen their harp playing skills.

I’m glad we received better interpretations of this from members of this group.

You felt that the angels could have been something other than spiritual beings and you were right. Angel comes from the Greek AGGELOS which means “messenger”. Therefore an otherworldly person who is a “messenger” is an angel, but so is a regular mortal.

For instance, in the King James version here, we read that regular mortals are called angels:

“The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches. Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks.” Rev 1:20-21

The angel of the church of Ephesus was a regular mortal like you or I, and John was told to send him a physical message.

The angels prophesied here, are regular human beings; like you or I, who choose to come into incarnation previous to the return of Christ. We are the messengers or “angels” who are to deliver a message of hope to the world.

“Trumpet” is from the Greek SALPIGX whose root meaning imply “to shake or disturb”.

“Gather together”, as explained earlier, means “To gather into one place”.

“Elect” is from the Greek EKLEKTOS which is usually translated as “elect” or “chosen”, but its root meaning is “to make a choice”. The elect are those who have power to make their own choices, without the consultation of an authoritative figure. They are independent of all but the God within, and have “chosen” the path that leads to the Christ consciousness. They are as the wise virgins with the oil in their lamps, and can stand alone against all odds and do not have to borrow light from others, but always recognize other lights presented.

The word “send” comes from APOSTELLO which is derived from the same root as “apostle” which means “one who is sent”. APOSTELLO is usually associated with an enlightened message.

“Sound” comes from the Greek PHONE from which the modern word telePHONE is derived and means “to bring light or communicate”.

Let us put all this together and create a more accurate translation:

“And he shall send out his messengers with enlightenment that will shake to the core, and they shall gather together into one place those who have chosen him, from the four winds, from one extreme of heaven to the other.”

The gathering concept is the basic principle behind all evolution, physical and spiritual. Why do you suppose this is so?

All Things New

Thank you for your postings of personal experiences and inspirations. Richard has illustrated to us, for example that we can still have joy and renewal in the face of great limitations. When you think of it, in comparison to higher lives, we humans are extremely limited. Nevertheless, we chose this condition for a great purpose.

There is a law, or principle, governing the growth of evolving entities, called the law of contraction and expansion. The idea goes something like this: To stimulate growth, the soul contracts or limits the individual until the entity rebels at such limitation and puts his ATTENTION on expansion and the removal of limitation. After the cycle of contraction and expansion has run its course, the life expands and the entity has more power and freedom than was previously the case. In addition to an increase in freedom, the period of expansion brings a sense of joy that was impossible to experience without the aid of the limitation that stimulated the expansion. I’m sure Richard in particular will see the truth of this principle.

A reader pointed out that new creation is a big aid in getting through dark periods. Very true. Even the God of the Bible says “Behold, I do all things new.” You would think the churches of the world have never read this scripture. For many of them their motto is: “Behold, let us do the old thing again.”

If we force ourselves into new and different experiences and learn new things, then we achieve a new outlook, and the thing that we found depressing will often die a blissful death through attrition.

This discussion group is a new experience for all of us, and I am sure it has uplifted the spirits of many.

Flesh and Bones

23 Apr 1999

Flesh and Bones

A reader asks a natural question. What is important about attaining a state where we do not have to die a physical death? Why not just leave the body behind and go to the higher worlds?

First let us examine the record we have of the one historical person who has overcome death, namely, Jesus in cooperation with the Christ. We know His body lay in the tomb for three days and then after this period there was a resurrection where the body disappeared. Now many believe that the disappearance of the body was a symbolic thing to give faith to the followers of Christ, that in reality Jesus was resurrected in a spiritual body and his real body either evaporated or was disposed of by the disciples.

Why could this not likely to be true? Because if it was, it is an outright deception, and the Brotherhood of Light does not deceive. They may withhold information but they do not create a situation purely for the intention of deception. In addition to this we have the appearance of Jesus in a physical body after the resurrection:

And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.

“And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: Handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And he took it, and did eat before them. Luke 24:33-43

Notice here that Jesus walked through the wall and appeared to the apostles. Because he materialized out of the blue the disciples thought they had seen a spirit, but to correct them Jesus let them feel his hands and feet, and then to clinch it he ate their fish in front of them. He still had a physical body, yet he could disappear and reappear at will as if he were a spirit.

The Purpose of the Body

“Question: What advantages would a person have who could materialize in a physical body at will over one who has left his body behind? Would this be an ability that you would want to acquire?”

“Suppose you think your body is not perfect as Rick was questioning. Do you suppose you would be stuck with it for eternity if you followed in the footsteps of the Master? If you had funny looking ears you wouldn’t want to be laughed at for eternity, would you?”

Robin made a very beautiful poetic comment that I cannot pass over:

“The limitation removed by the physical body is that of using the senses which are available only to the body. Without a body, one does not see the beautiful sunset, smell the perfumed scarlet rose, nor feel the silkiness of the dust of a butterfly’s wing.”

Even though there are great beauties in the other spheres, it is true that the perceptions and feelings we have here are unique in the scheme of things. The feelings of all the other worlds added together are not complete until the physical is added. Here we have the possibility of obtaining a “fullness of joy,” as well as a fullness of liberation, which fullness cannot be obtained without the aid of a physical body.

As we said earlier, it takes around a thousand lifetimes to obtain liberation. When your body dies, it seems that it is left behind to be forgotten, but such is not the case. When you die you take one atom of the body with you. Alice A. Bailey calls this the “permanent atom.”

When the time comes to incarnate again, you, in cooperation with your Solar Angel, actually participate in the creation of your new body. The permanent atom that you take with you is like a great computer program that has all the data necessary to recreate the body when it is activated. It is also used to create a better program for your next life.

Progressive incarnation is a little like the evolution of a computer program. I remember back, ages and ages hence, when I bought Microsoft Word version one for my Mac. That was its first incarnation. But then version two was released. Version two took all that worked and was good about version one (at least in theory) and incorporated it in the new incarnation along with added improvements. This process has continued until we now have version 8 which is in Office 98. (As of 1999)

Now there are still some things I like better about version five so I will open it now and then and use it. Then when I retrieve my older writings I find that I cannot even open them with the new versions, so I may have to go back to version three or earlier.

It is similar with our physical bodies. Life after life we seek to make a better, tougher, healthier, more resourceful body. As we do this, we carry with us the permanent atom (programs) of bodies past. Then we reach a point where we start putting our attention on beauty as well as function. During these lives we also have a great interest in the outward beauty of music, art, painting, architecture, creating… This interest stimulates us so that after we pass out of incarnation, and revise our program for the next body, we put more attention on increasing its beauty and symmetry.

If you have lived 600 lives, for instance, you would have a chain of 600 computer programs within your permanent atom that interplay to create body number 601. Until you reach the point of liberation, however, you will not have the power to recreate your old bodies at will. When you do reach “the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” you then gain access to all past programs and have power to activate them and create a body at will.

This explains the story in the 24th chapter of Luke, where Jesus visited disciples who were old friends, but did not recognize Him. They did not recognize him because He appeared in a body from a past life. Then something strange happened; as the Master talked to them, His wisdom seemed strangely familiar. Gradually it began to dawn on them that they were in the presence of Christ and we are told: “their eyes were opened and they knew him, and he vanished out of their sight.” Luke 24:31

Most of us are many lifetimes away from reaching the perfection of Jesus, or the Christ, but within our soul there is a knowing that the day will come when we, the students, will become as our Master. When this day of attainment comes, we will not leave our physical bodies behind as many teach, for leaving them behind would cause us to suffer a great limitation.

And what is that limitation? Without the power to access a physical body at will, we have no direct participation with the physical world. The power of spiritual entities to influence and affect humanity is not nearly as powerful as would be a Master in a physical body.

Verily, in the present, the visitation of a Master in the flesh who has overcome death is rare, but the time will come when mortals and immortals shall mingle freely and be able to speak and shake hands with each other. Yes, they shall be able to hug each other also.

A Master is one who has overcome physical death and has power to manifest in all three worlds of form at will. There are many Masters unknown to us who have come to earth from other worlds, but beginning with Christ, they are being replaced by evolving entities who are native to this earth. This group of Masters is sometimes called the Spiritual Hierarchy of the planet, and the Masters, along with their dedicated disciples who have not yet overcome death, are called the Brotherhood of Light by some. This is the phrase I often use.

There are many astral entities, which are far from being Masters, who think themselves wise and seek to have influence on the physical plane. Such entities cannot manifest in the flesh. Some have power to project an astral image, but if you try to touch them, your hand will pass through. If you touch a true Master you will feel his or her body.

There are some very advanced entities who have not yet sought to master the physical plane as exists on earth, but they generally leave teaching up to those who have achieved mastery here. Lower astral entities will seek to use the body of an unconscious channel and gather disciples around him for his own glory.

There are many entities on the other side who are not Masters, who have embraced the light and seek to aid humanity in a positive way. These “angels” do not deceive and do not seek to present themselves as greater than they are. They only seek to aid in the manifesting of the will of God, and mainly work through the medium of the soul with the “still small voice.”

We are told that “The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.” I Cor 15:26 Why do you suppose death is called an “enemy?” There is a major achievement in conquering this enemy before death is destroyed.

Elijah, Moses and Abraham reached this point. Moses just seemed to disappear and his body was never found, and Elijah was said to have been taken into heaven without tasting death. Abraham and Sarah’s bodies were renewed so they could have a child at the age of 100. These are hints about a major point in evolution we reach before the final mastery. What is this achievement?

The Last Enemy

Why do you suppose death is called an “enemy”?

Death is called the last enemy because its power over us is the last obstacle to overcome before maximum freedom is obtained on the physical plane. It is true there are other glorious worlds beyond this one, but there will be times when we will want to manifest in the physical world for one reason or another. Overcoming physical death allows us this freedom. There are other obstacles in other spheres, but physical death is the greatest on this plane.

Before Christ, physical death was partially overcome by disciples who reached the fourth and fifth initiations. These disciples received a rejuvenation of their bodies and lived for an extended period on the physical plane. The Christ did something different. He allowed His body to be virtually destroyed, and then rebuilt it, demonstrating complete power of the Spirit over the body.

In addition, He demonstrated that the body could be folded up into spirit, and that while keeping the ability to manifest physically, He could manifest and travel to all worlds whether material or spirit.

Glenys asked why Paul was blinded by a vision of Christ, John saw a glorious Christ in vision but others saw Him through normal eyes. If Christ were to manifest clear down to the physical level, we could then look upon him as a normal man, for the glory that blinded Paul would be hidden by the physical body. On the other hand, if a high entity is consciously dwelling on a higher plane, and we ascend in consciousness to meet that entity, then we will “see him as he is”. If the entity is quickened by spiritual light, he will have a presence brighter than the sun.

Peter, James and John saw the true glory of Christ on the mount of transfiguration where they saw His face “shine as the sun.” (Mat 17:2) Here their eyes saw beyond the illusion of the body, and they saw their Master as He was.

The Dark Night of the Soul

April 29, 1999

The Dark Night of the Soul

The one most likely to get help from a Master is:

(e) Scott also has been a sincere seeker all his life, and has studied and sought diligently for over 20 years. He starts a project that he believes will help mankind, but does not seem to care as to whether he ever sees a master or not.

Most of you wisely suspected that this was the correct answer; however Glenys had a good reason for believing in another possibility. In addition to my last tricky quiz making her suspicious, she mentioned that others sought help from a higher power, whereas Scott in (e) did not, as far as we know.

Seeking help from God and a higher power is indeed a positive thing, and if faith is exercised then it will be forthcoming, but not necessarily from a Master. There are unseen helpers from the unseen worlds, and then there is also guidance from our own souls, which Alice A Bailey calls “a Master on its own plane”.

The Christ and his associates have much work to do on their own plane, and are limited by several factors as to who they can and will work with in the mortal world. “Like attracts like” is a wise statement. If you want to draw the attention of a Master, you have to think and act like a Master.

And how is that?

The master is an initiate, and he will begin a work of some kind and seek to follow it through as Dave did in the parable on Decision. Note that when Dave was visited by the second angel, he was not seeking or expecting such a visit. He was just happily proceeding doing a great work of turning hell into heaven, and in a moment he was not expecting it, a messenger appeared. This is also pointed out in the Bible by Jesus. “Watch (pay attention) therefore: For ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” Matt 24:42

We also have the parable of the talents:

Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. “For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

“Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.

“After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

“His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

“He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

“His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

“Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed: And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

“His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.” Matt 25:13-29

Notice here that the ones, who were praised and rewarded by the Master, were they who used their INITIATIVE and multiplied what they had. It is interesting then that if all a person does is to seek guidance and the favor and visitation of a Master or sensational spiritual experiences, he will be quite unlikely to have a visitation of a true teacher. Instead he is setting himself up to be deceived by some entity or thoughtform pretending to be a master. This could be a teacher on the physical plane, an astral entity or some channeled source.

He who is most likely to obtain a visit, will be he who actually attempts to do the will of God no matter what the difficulty, and will proceed with a good work whether or not any Master visits him. When such a person is making progress and is in a state of mind where he doesn’t care if the Masters are paying attention or not, then the Masters will start to pay attention.

The person grumbling about a lack of signs or assistance will often have neither. One of the things each true servant must learn is to find the power of God manifesting through himself, through the medium of his own soul.

A final barrier before the student makes the necessary spiritual contacts is called loosely the dark night of the soul. Now, most people feel loneliness now and then to a degree, but the student on the threshold of greater spiritual contact will go through a period of loneliness and feelings of isolation that eclipses any feelings of loneliness that the average person experiences. This loneliness is often accompanied by a feeling that he or she is different and there is no one else on the planet who can understand what he is going through or communicate effectively with them. To some it will seem that a dark cloud also hangs over them.

If the student in this condition gives up in his quest for higher knowledge, then soon things will return to normal, but he will soon have to go through the dark night again. On the other hand, if he perseveres, he will eventually arrive at a higher level of consciousness and soul contact. After he passes through this dark night, he will realize something very interesting. He is not alone. He finds he is in “communion with the saints” as it is written in Christian terminology. In other writings “he finds his group.” But it will be a spiritual group that has an eternal presence before his soul.

Once this happens, new vistas of understanding open up to him, and he will never feel that “aloneness” feeling again, and it is almost impossible for such a one to become depressed.

Just a Little Bit Crazy, Chapter 19

This entry is part 19 of 19 in the series Crazy

Chapter 19

Twilight comes early in High Valley. The sun goes down behind the high mountain long before it sets on the distant horizon. The shadows disappear and soon it will be bed time for the inhabitants of the forest.

Jim and Elly May were curled up on the love seat by the waterfall. There was a faint smile on Jim’s face as he recalled the events of this day. It had been a long one – very eventful, one that he would never forget.

When he had ushered the doctor to the car Aunt Nelly was seated behind the wheel. She opened the door on the passenger side and motioned for him to get in.

There was a smile on her face as she turned the big car around and headed back down the dusty road. Her actions reminded him of her sister Martha when she had dumped the soap in the cookie frosting. She had the doctor under control now and was going to keep a watchful eye on him from now on.

As the car disappeared down the winding road Jim knew that these people were going out of their lives forever. He was glad about that.

He looked down at the girl seated beside him. Never before had she appeared to be so beautiful. They had been here several minutes, neither of them breaking the silence. He wondered if she was asleep.

Her eyes were closed, the red lips slightly parted showing the pearly white teeth. There was a look of contentment on her face. A slight breeze whispered in the treetops. The honey colored hair parted on the side. He could see the faint scar.

Seth and the doctor had been mighty careless with their big rifles. They should of known better. It was a wonder she wasn’t killed instantly.

He wondered if she would have been different if the bullet had not struck her. He didn’t think so. She was the same girl he had always loved. She was all his now, and that was all that mattered.

Overhead a big bushy tailed pine squirrel with a yellow belly was chatting to his mate, evidently telling her to get busy and gather more nuts for the coming winter. Back on the mountain a coyote howled. The wind whispered above…

Jim looked down at the beautiful girl on his arm. Her blue eyes opened wide. Was he seeing things? They were full of stars. Sparkling stars!

He smiled. Who ever heard of stars in the blue? Probably no one… But who ever heard of a girl like Elly May?

The end

Just a Little Bit Crazy, Chapter 18

This entry is part 18 of 19 in the series Crazy

Chapter 18

It was three o’clock in the afternoon when a big white Cadillac turned into the driveway. Jim had placed several folding chairs in the shade of the big pine tree. He and Elly May were seated in two of them. Shirley Green remained inside.

The car pulled up in front of them and came to a stop. The left side was facing them as the Doctor was behind the wheel. Aunt Nelly was beside him.

The Doctor removed the dark glasses he was wearing and laid them on the seat. He rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand and looked around.

Jim took Elly May by the arm and walked over to the car. She poked her head through the open window and kissed the Doctor on the cheek.” Oh, Uncle John, it is so nice to see you.” She turned around and ran to the other side. “And, Aunt Nelly, it is so nice of you to come.”

There was a faint smile on Aunt Nelly’s face. “And it is good to see you girl. How are you? is everything alright?”

Elly May reached through the open window and gave her a big hug and a kiss. “Everything is wonderful, Aunt Nelly, and in a minute I will give you some great news.”

She backed away from the car and walked back to where Jim was standing. She slipped her right arm around his waist stuck out her left hand and wiggled the finger with the diamond on it.

“Oh uncle John and Aunt Nelly, Jim and I are getting married. Isn’t that wonderful?”

Elly May was sure doing her part to keep everything on an even keel, Jim thought. Maybe everything would be all right. He hoped so.

But the Doctor’s next words didn’t sound like it.

“Are you ready to go girl? Get your bags! We haven’t got all day!”

Elly May moved closer to Jim. “1 told you Uncle John Jim and I are getting married right away. We want you to stay for the wedding, don’t we darling?”

Jim stepped up close to the open window. “Maybe I should introduce myself. I am Jim Green.” He stuck out his right hand toward the Doctor. “Get out and rest a spell.”

Aunt Nelly spoke. “Yes why don’t we John? He seems to be a nice young man.”

The Doctor’s face was dark. “Get your things, Elly May. I’m not going to tell you again”

Jim’s hand dropped to his side. He was having a hard time controlling his temper. He took the little arm from around his. waist and gently pushed the girl back.

For a minute he stood there, sizing up the Doctor. Elly May had said that he was a big man and she was right. Be was big and blond and probably in his early thirty’s. He was well groomed every hair in place including a thin moustache. Right at the present moment his lower jaw was thrust out like that of a bull terrier.

Jim thought he would try once more. Once again he stuck out his right hand. Slowly the Doctor turned in his seat he extended a big right hand.

Jim grasped it firmly then was almost yanked bodily into the car. The Doctor had tricked him. Andersen had both hands wrapped around his wrist and was pushing down hard. A little more pressure and the arm would break.

Jim pushed himself forward, poking his head through the open window. Both his arms were now inside. No longer could the Doctor use the window ledge to bend the arm over.

Aunt Nelly screamed and bailed out the opposite side of the car.

For a second Jim had the advantage. Andersen was bent over backwards and Jim’s left hand was free. He didn’t have much leverage but the fist that had made the barn rattle and shake was playing a tune on the Doctor’s face.

Andersen twisted around trying to elude those cutting blows. It was of no use they kept coming! In desperation he let go of Jim’s right arm and tried to cover his face with both hands.

This was a mistake. The fist come down hard, burying itself deep in the Doctors stomach. The Doctor grunted and lowered his guard. With the right hand Jim had lots of leverage. He swung a crushing blow that landed square on the chin. The big man trembled and tried to get up, but another fist to the jaw drove him back down. Then another to the solar plexus knocked all the wind out of him. Finally came a crashing right to the jaw and the fight was oven.

For a few seconds Jim stared at the man beneath him. No need of more punches the man was out cold. He pulled his feet inside opened the door and crawled out. The Doctor’s legs were sticking out the open doorway. He grabbed the ankles and gave a mighty heave. The man landed flat on his back on the dusty driveway.

Jim didn’t want the Doctor to wake up in or near the car. He could have a gun or some other weapon concealed there. He grabbed the ankles once more and dragged the man over into the shade of the big pine tree. He let the legs drop.

The three women were standing in a huddle their arms around each other. Jim took charge. “Mother, get a bucket of water some towels. “ He looked at Nelly Andersen. “Lady, if you can find some clean clothes for your husband I will help him clean up a bit. When he wakes up…”

The Doctor groaned and rolled over. Blood was dripping from his swollen nose and battered lips.

Only a few minutes ago he had been a big clean handsome man. The terrible beating he had just had turned him into a dirty battered hulk. And he was the one that had started the whole thing. Even his wife showed him no sympathy for him. She went to the car brought a suitcase and set it down.

Shirley Green brought a bucket of water and some towels and set them beside the suitcase.

Elly May walked up to Jim, her eyes were wide. “Are you alright darling? Oh Jim, he tricked you. He tried to break your arm.

“He tried alright.”

The doctor was sitting up. He groaned and spit blood.

Jim turned to the three women. “The fight is over, but the Doctor and I have a few things to talk about, so if you don’t mind leaving us alone for a few minutes I am sure everything will turn out just fine.”

The three women looked at each other. Then without a word arm and arm they started walking toward the house.

For a moment Jim stood there. Staring at the man on the ground. What had possessed the Doctor to try and break his arm? Before they were through here he was going to find out.

Andersen struggled to his feet and looked around. He was still in a daze his, eyes looked glassy. Jim picked up the bucket of water in one hand and the suitcase and the towels in the other. He motioned for the Doctor to follow him. They walked to the number two cabin. Jim swung the door open and motioned for him to go in.

The cabin was small, about twenty feet square. It was used as a spare bedroom in roundup season. It’s only furniture was a bed and a couple of chairs.

Jim dipped a towel in the bucket and handed it to the Doctor. He sat down the bucket and the suitcase in the corner of the room. Andersen took the towel and began wiping his battered face. Jim watched him closely. The guy was tricky he wouldn’t be caught off guard again.

The man was recovering fast. He was young and evidently in excellent health. He walked over to a mirror that hung on the wall. The reflection showed his battered features. The nose was badly swollen and the lips puffed. One eye was almost closed.

A look of hatred crossed his face. “Damn you!” he muttered. “I won’t be able to face the public for two weeks. What in hell did you hit me with?”

He turned away from the mirror and looked around. His eyes fell on the suitcase he started toward it.

Jim stepped in front of him. “Not so fast. Where do you think you are going?”

The Doctor glared at him. “1 was just going to get a clean shirt.” He took a step forward. “Get the hell out of my way!”

Jim hit him square in the mouth. Andersen staggered back and spit out four hundred dollars worth of bridgework. His face was livid. Like a mad bull he charged.

Jim stepped under a wild haymaker and buried his right hand deep in the solar-plexus. Andersen gasped for breath his knees started to buckle. Jim brought up an uppercut that landed square on the chin. Like a punctured balloon the big man sank slowly to the floor.

For a few moments Jim stood over the senseless form. The man was out cold. He retrieved the water bucket and poured on his face.

The man on the floor sputtered and sat up ï He wiped his eyes with the back of his hand and looked up at the figure standing over him. He ran a hand over his battered face placing a finger inside his bleeding mouth. He shook his head and groaned. “For Gods sake man” he muttered. “Don’t hit me: again.”

Jim’s voice was cold. “Why did you try and break my arm?”

Andersen’s hands went to his stomach. He rocked slowly back and forth.

Jim. repeated” “Why did you try and break my arm? “

The Doctor looked up at him. He licked his bleeding lips.

His voice was harsh. “Don’t you know man? Are you that stupid?”

Jim didn’t answer. He stared down at the beaten man.

The Doctor slowly shook his head. His voice was just above a whisper. “Don’t blame me. I couldn’t help myself…. I fell in love with the girl the minute I set eyes on her.” He hesitated for a moment. “She was only fourteen then. But there was something about her that was so different from anyone I have ever known… ” His voice trailed off.

Jim was dumbfounded. This was unbelievable!

The Doctor cleared his throat. “Last month she was eighteen. Four long years I have waited…And now too late…” His chin sank down on his chest. “So now you know. Congratulations. Anything Else?”

Jim took a deep breath. Things began to make a little sense. If the Doctor had succeeded in breaking his arm the girl would of been at his mercy. He would of been in full command He could have forced her to get in the car and return to Seattle. God only knows what would happen after that.

And Aunt Nelly… She had tried to reason with the Doctor.

Evidently she knew nothing of his plans. He had taken her by complete surprise, then she had seen the handwriting on the wall. When the fight started she had jumped out of the car and let him fight his own battle.

Suddenly, Jim remembered. That night in Ontario Elly May had said. “I have two good reasons for leaving Seattle. One of them is there is a man.. He keeps coming on strong and I don’t care for him in that way.”

So Uncle John was that man. She had tried to protect him by not telling his name!

Jim had one more question. “I know you removed most of the scar would you care to talk about it?”

The Doctor nodded. “1 figured you would get around to asking that question. If I don’t answer you will probably beat me some more. Alright I will tell you…That’s where it all. started…”

For several minutes he talked. It seemed to Jim that he was like a sinner confessing his sins. Unloading part of the burden on someone else. It was a strange story.

For about a year he had been practicing medicine in Seattle. It was hard getting started…He was short on money. For a young man just out of school and newly married there were lots of problems.

Then came his big chance. A couple of well-known doctors had asked him to join them. By doing this success was assured. If all went well1 in a couple of months he would be sitting pretty. He decided to take a short vacation.

His wife had relatives here in Idaho. He had loaded his camper with fishing and hunting gear and drove to the Rotten ranch.

Seth and Martha had an old school bus which they used for a camper. Seth knew where the fishing was good they had taken off for the high mountains. They took Elly May with them.

They had driven to Cascade lake and found a nice camping place. The fishing was great..

Then Seth had produced a jug of white lightning. It was powerful stuffs and they consumed a lot of it.

The jug was about half-gone when they decided to hold a shooting contest. Shooting cans and bottles off a stump about fifty yards away.

They had kept Elly May busy running back and forth setting up targets. The Doctor was an expert with a rifle and was holding his own with Seth.

Then he suggested that they shoot at some flying objects.

They had picked up a bunch of rocks about the size of a man’s fist. They had directed the girl to throw them high in the air. They had stepped back about a hundred feet and she began throwing…

Seth could lever the Winchester with great speed. The doctor had an automatic. Most of the rocks were broken before they hit the ground.

Then there were no rocks in the air…

The girl was lying on the ground a gaping wound in the side of her head. One of the bullets had glanced off a rock and went spiraling across the side of Elly May’s head.

At this point in his story the doctor stopped and wept.

Of course they didn’t know whose bullet had struck her, but they were both responsible, and both drunk on Seth’s potent booze.

He had examined the girl’s It was a nasty wound but didn’t appear to be too deep. Her pulse and blood pressure was good. She was’ in no immediate danger.

He and Seth had held a conference. They were both scared. Seth was already in trouble with the law. He could see his own career going down the drain. If they took her to the hospital in Cascade there would be a lot of questions asked. They might even be arrested. One thing for sure there would be a lot of publicity. The doctors in Seattle would probably decide they could do without a junior partner.

They had made a quick decision. They loaded her in his camper and headed for Seattle. Nelly drove and he sat beside her all the way.

At this point the Doctor got to his feet, staggered over to the window and stood, staring out.

“I guess it was on that ride home that I fell in love with her. Each year she has become more and more an obsession to me. Each year she has become sweeter more beautiful, more desirable. I couldn’t stand the thought of losing her to another man.”

It had been a strange story. Jim couldn’t help but feel sorry for’ the man. On the other hand the guy had tried to break his arm. Also he had been protecting himself all this time. He was not one to be trusted.

Jim had everything under control now and he intended to keep it that way. His voice was as cold as an iceberg in Alaska.

“Gather up your junk Doctor and get the hell out of here! If I ever see you again so help me God, I will kill you.”

Just a Little Bit Crazy, Chapter 17

This entry is part 17 of 19 in the series Crazy

Chapter 17

It was a beautiful Sunday morning and the sun was peeking over the mountaintop.

Jim had gotten up early as usual and went to the meadow to take care of the irrigation water. He found the shovel where he had left it and proceeded to get the job done. Doctor Andersen and his wife would be here sometime today and he intended to be at the house when they arrived.

Last night his mother had prepared a good meal, opened the bottle of chilled champagne and drank to their health. She appeared to be very nervous and looked worried.

He left Elly May in the Living room and joined Shirley Green in the kitchen. ”Something is bothering you, Mother. What is it?”

She had told him in a low voice. “I hate to tell you this but I think you must know. Doctor Andersen sounded very upset. He was very rude. He said to have her things all packed they were taking her home with them.”

He had spent a restless night. He had said nothing to the girl about this conversation. No need of bothering her. But now it was morning and they could arrive here most any time. He must tell Elly May.

Jim swore under his breath. So Doctor Andersen figured on taking her home. Home? She was already home!

And another thing, the guy had been rude to his mother. Damn his hide, what right did he have giving orders like he was everyone’s boss!

Jim tried to tell himself that the Doctor was just a little upset coming home and finding the girl gone. He would soon calm down and act like a gentleman.

But he didn’t think so. The Doctor was hiding something and he intended to keep it hidden.

The Doctor didn’t know the facts about himself and Elly May what right did he have to pass judgment? What kind of a man was he? He intended to find out!

Jim looked at his watch, ten o’clock. He should spend a couple of hours more here but there were other things that were much more important. He put the shovel over his shoulder and headed toward the house. To hell with the pasture.

Neither he nor his mother had told the girl of the Doctor’s intentions. He had better take care of that now. Then a terrible thought struck him. Was there a chance that she would go with them? After all she had been taking orders from them for the last four years!

Jim swore. Damn his hide! He had no business coming down here throwing his weight around, trying to spoil everything.

He wiped the sweat from his forehead. He was perspiring freely and the morning temperature was still cool. Jim shook his head as though to clear it. He must keep calm. If he used his head everything would turn out all right.

The first thing to do was to talk to Elly May. After all, she was the subject of the whole affair. She should have something to say about what went on around here. He would talk to her alone.

He leaned the shovel against the tree and opened the door. In an instant Elly May was in his arms. “Oh darling, you are home early.” She drew herself close. “You got something for me?”

He kissed her on the lips. “Want to go for a little walk?”

She nodded, “That would be nice.”

He guided her out the back door to a bench beside the pond. They sat down. He put his arm around her and held her close.

She looked up at him with here blue eyes were wide. “Oh Jim, you look so serious. Is something the matter?”

As always, she seemed to read his mind. Slowly he shook his head. “No everything is just fine. So far so good.” He hesitated for a second. “But there is something that we should talk about. There is something that you should know.”

“Yes darling what is it?”

His voice was low and gentle “Your Uncle John told Mother on the phone that they were going to take you home with them.”

The girl’s eyes were wide. “Did Uncle John say that?”

Jim nodded. “He said to have your clothes all packed. So you could leave as soon as they got here.”

Her big blue eyes flooded with tears “He shouldn’t of said a thing like that. Sweetie, I don’t know what to tell you.”

“Maybe they were shaken up when they returned and found you gone.”

“Maybe so, but, darling, they had no right calling your mother and telling her those things. They could of waited and talked to me.” She hesitated for a moment “Or you,” she finished.

Those last two words seemed to lift a ton of weight from Jim’s shoulders. He pulled her close and kissed her gently.

The little hand with the diamond on it stole around his neck. “You didn’t think I would go with them, did you darling?

Jim’s eyes were stinging; he held her close. “No Sweetie, but it is sure as hell good to hear you say so!”

Just a Little Bit Crazy, Chapter 16

This entry is part 16 of 19 in the series Crazy

Chapter 16

Another day had gone by and dinner was over. Dinner is the noon or twelve o’clock meal. Supper comes in the evening at six.

Jim pushed himself away from the table. “That was a fine meal,” he said. “Guess I’ll get in the pickup and go to town.”

His mother lifted an eyebrow, “Are you going by yourself Jim?” He shook his head. “Haven’t decided yet. Are you supposed to take the girl along when you buy her a diamond?” Elly May’s eyes grew big and round.

Shirley Green laughed. “1 don’t think it would hurt a bit. By taking her along you are sure to get one that will fit.” Jim nodded “I will give it some thought ‘

Elly May’s eyes were flashing, “In this case I will do the thinking. I am going along! Be ready in five minutes.”

It was a proud moment in Jim’s life when he walked into the jewelry store with Elly May on his arm.

The jeweler was sitting on a stool back of the counter. He looked up, “Hello Jim. What can I do for you and this lovely young lady, or must I take a guess?”

Jim grinned. “You guessed right. We are going to get hitched. What you have in a complete set?”

“I can make you up most any combination.” He hesitated for a moment and nodded toward the back room. “If we could just have a word.”

Jim understood. He turned to Elly May “Wait here a minute.” He followed the jeweler to the rear of the store.

The man lowered his voice. “It would sure help if I knew how much you intend to go.”

Jim whispered back. “About a cow and a calf.”

“Thanks. Now we are getting somewhere.”

An hour later they walked out of the store. Jim had a box in his pocket containing a matched pair of His and Her wedding rings. Elly May was flashing a diamond that could be seen for a city block.

It was a great day in the life of young Jim Green. Elly May gave vent to her feelings by crying one moment and laughing the next.

Jim went to the State Liquor Store and bought a bottle of champagne. They would celebrate the occasion when they arrived at the ranch. He helped Elly May into the Jeep, put an arm around her and headed for home.

He hadn’t as yet asked her about the scar. Now would be as good a time as any, he thought.

He gave her a gentle squeeze. “Sweetie when we were riding Old Spot yesterday the wind blew your hair over to the right side. I noticed a scar in your scalp. What happened? Did you hurt yourself?

She looked up at him. “Is it noticeable Jim?”

“Not really. Only when your hair is pushed or blown to the right side. How did you get the scar, Sweetie?”

There was a puzzled look on her face. “I don’t know how I got the darn thing. You should have seen it before Uncle John operated on it. It looked terrible.”

“Tell me more.”

Elly May lifted her left hand and ran her fingers through her hair. “I guess I forgot all about it. So many things have been happening lately a little thing like a scar didn’t seem important.”

“You say doctor Andersen operated on it?”

The girl nodded. “Yes. It was quite large very red and ugly before he fixed it.” A frown crossed her face. “Didn’t I have it before I went to Seattle?”

Jim was silent for a moment. He figured she had suffered a bad head injury. Is this what caused her loss of memory? She had no scar at the school picnic but when she arrived in Seattle it was there; Uncle John had operated on it. He knew all the answers!

Jim gave her a gentle squeeze. “Sweetie, before you went to Seattle your hair was long and hung in ringlets. It could have covered a multitude of scars.”

He felt better. Forget about scars for now this was the most important day of their life.

Elly May also had more important thoughts on her mind. The sun was about to disappear behind the mountain. It’s long rays flashing through the windshield also created many shadows. She kept her little white hand exposed watching the dancing lights coming from the diamond on her hand.

Jim felt great. How could a man be so lucky? He wondered. Soon they would be married! How soon? He would get Elly May’s opinion.

“When shall we tie the knot, Sweetie?

Elly May looked up at him and laughed. She looked back at the flashing diamond. “Oh Jim, it is so much fun being engaged let’s enjoy it for awhile. Let’s wait at least another week.”

It was twilight in the mountains when they arrived at the ranch. Shirley Green kissed them and gave them her blessing.

Then she broke the news. They were going to have company. Doctor Andersen had called from Seattle. He and his wife were on their way down. They would be here tomorrow.

Seek and Find

Seek and Find

I am asked if something like the hundredth monkey concept could cause information to pass from one mind to another.

When one monkey learned something new, monkeys out of contact, even on other islands, soon picked up the information. Did the monkeys go within? Can we go within and pick up information in the mass consciousness?

First of all – all things are possible. It is possible that someone could have picked up the number -2 that I wrote down, but before a person could have done it, he or she would have had to understand the principles governing the obtaining of such information. If you try to obtain data hidden from normal human senses before obtaining the principle that reveals it, then the data obtained will be random.

There is a principle involved in the sharing of knowledge through a species. From a higher viewpoint, each species is one life. The human race, for instance, has a collective evolving consciousness as real as a one individual human. When your nose itches, your whole being is aware of the problem. When you learn to walk as a child, your whole body learns and adjusts to the new balance that is being developed. When you learn that apples are good for you, the whole body again knows this and cooperates in assimilating them.

Even so, all monkeys together produce a collective consciousness as do humans and all other species. When one part of the species learns a new principle (not necessarily facts), then that principle is soon communicated by natural means throughout the whole species.

The contest for the number was not meant to demonstrate the uselessness of going within, but the limitation of going within for normal human beings. If we are deceived into thinking that all we have to do is “go within,” and then we can retrieve anything, then we are likely to get caught up in illusion, and if we imagine we are right we will think we are right.

I cannot repeat enough times that the great value of going within is first for verification of principles and secondly (after this ability is achieved) for the retrieving of principles. Remember this. It takes a thousand facts to cause a person to understand one principle, but the understanding of one principle reveals thousands of facts. It takes a certain point in the evolution of the human being to comprehend the difference between a principle and a fact, but when he does, and learns to go within and touch the soul, then all the understanding and vision of a principle is revealed in a flash. Sometimes a book can be written about a principle revealed in one instant.

Xavier seemed to have some experience with this for he said: “That contact also instantaneously gave me the feeling and answer, the truth that completed this illusion with wisdom and answer.”

Suppose then that you want to acquire knowledge of higher teachings. How do you go about it?

The first thing to do is to check all available books, people and sources readily available. You’ll be surprised how much information is there with a little research. Your Solar Angel who works through your soul and higher entities up to the Masters will not do for you what you can do for yourself. Many people are just lazy and expect some Master to appear to them (when he has much more important things to do) and tell them information that is already in your local bookstore.

So when you have done your part and searched everywhere you can for higher knowledge, what then? The simple answer is given in the scriptures:

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.” James 1:5-7

When you have reached a dead end the final step is to ask God through prayer, meditation, contemplation, or preferably all three.

Notice it says to “ask in faith, nothing wavering.” This basically means to put your full ATTENTION on what you want after you have made a DECISION to obtain it. When your focus is concentrated, then, after a period of time, the answer will come.

Let us suppose you want to know whether having an abortion is right or wrong. You read books on it and listen to all kinds of arguments on both sides of the issue, but still do not know for sure. The final step then is to ask your version of God with an open mind and a willingness to accept the answer no matter what it is. You must be interested in truth only, not an agenda.

The chances are then slim that you will hear some voice saying: “Here is the truth on abortion…” Instead you go through a period of prayer, meditation, contemplation and reflection. As you do this, certain phrases you have learned in the past will start coming to your mind, and you will begin to sense that some higher power is selecting information from your memory banks and running them by your mind as if they are clues.

If you pay attention to these clues and reflect on them, then the time will come when the principle that governs this will come to you in a flash. After this flash, you will see all the data that is in your mind on the issue in a different light, and will be able to gather to yourself all knowledge that makes sense in relation to the new principle you now understand. You are now able to put the pieces of the puzzle together in such a way that you can see the big picture in a way that now seems obvious.

If you are a servant on the Path and have the capacity and willingness to serve humanity, your questions will sometimes be answered by an advanced unseen entity, and on rare occasions one will be manifested to you. Advanced entities will not bother with personal questions like “What should I do for a career?” or “Who should I marry?” They will only help you with answers that will increase your power to serve more than yourself.

Many lesser evolved channeled entities answer all kinds of personal questions, which often lead the seeker in the wrong direction, and interfere with his own personal power of discovering the answer for himself.

The Master has told us to “seek and ye shall find.” I doubted this at one time because my questions were not answered immediately. Because I persevered, I have discovered that this statement is absolutely true. The truth of all things are before us, waiting to be discovered.

A third way to get answers is to discover a teacher who has some type of an accurate higher contact. This alone does not make it easy for you, because for every one teacher of truth there are a dozen or more, teaching misinformation. So in the search for a teacher you must still get in touch with your own soul and test out the words and principles of all who wish to lead you to greener pastures. When you do find one who does truly speak the words of the Spirit, then he or she can greatly stimulate your learning and progression by presenting you with information and principles that you may have never in this life presented to yourself.

Question of the day:

Who would a Master be most likely to contact and assist?

(a) Dave has just discovered some higher knowledge that will help the people of earth live in greater light and peace. He seeks help from God to present this to the world.

(b) Sue travels the country, teaching seminars and is a strong influence on many people. She seeks help from a Higher Power to form some inspired organization to help those interested and bring them together.

(c) Bill just won a million dollar lottery, and wants to dedicate his life to serving mankind, now he has all his time free. He asks God to tell him what he should do.

(d) Lori has been a sincere seeker all her life and has studied and sought diligently for over 20 years. Now she seeks even higher knowledge and some direction as to what to do with it.

(e) Scott also has been a sincere seeker all his life and has studied and sought diligently for over 20 years. He starts a project that he believes will help mankind but does not seem to care as to whether he ever sees a master or not.

Which answer do you think is correct and why?
