Intelligent Selection
A reader presented the orthodox idea of natural section behind creation and evolution and wanted me to comment on it.
The problem with the orthodox idea is when you consider that natural selection as defined by the evolutionists takes place with no apparent intelligence or conscious choice involved. To the contrary I submit that for true evolution to occur consciousness and choice has to be present. Let me illustrate.
Two sandcastles are built by the sea. The first is a regular castle built of wet sand and the second has a paste added to reinforce its strength. The tide comes up and quickly washes away the first. The second survives the night.
The reason the second sandcastle survived was not that it made a choice; however, there was choice involved. Someone decided that he would make a better sandcastle.
In addition, the surviving castle has no power to duplicate itself. If a duplication occurs, it comes from a decision made by the builder to fashion more such sandcastles.
According to atheists’ evolution occurs with no intelligence at play, but without the application of intelligence an even more sturdy generation of sandcastles cannot occur.
On the other hand, atheists believe that improvements in form can occur with no decision or consciousness involved. The problem is that this cannot be demonstrated in the real world.
The intelligence of God permeates all time and space and this consciousness and intelligence is responsible for all evolution and improvement of form. In the process of evolution, the more appropriate forms survive and the ones ill equipped fade away, but both forms were created by intelligent choice.
The form which is useful in one age may not be in another.
Another reader made this comment:
“Scientist got very interested in observing an actual evolutionary genetic improvement. They watched for this now thru about 4,500 generations of fruit flies multiplied by many different family lines. They manipulated conditions using chemicals, radiation, environmental stimulus, and imposed selective breeding. They produced fruit flies with eyes so big they could not walk. They cataloged an impressive array of innovations stemming from the gene pool. Unfortunately, they never observed even one that could be considered an improvement.”
JJ: Earlier, I gave the analogy of two sandcastles. The only reason both castles exist was because of an intelligent hand that first created them.
Now living things are much more complex than sandcastles. Their form is held together by very complex computer programs. One point that makes them more advanced than current computers is that they can duplicate themselves. On our computers we have some fairly advanced programs, but there are two things we know for sure about them.
First, they did not program themselves. Secondly, they cannot duplicate themselves on their own initiative.
These two things require the addition of applied intelligence.
If we did give a program like Microsoft Word the ability to duplicate itself then it could not create a more advanced program than itself through natural selection. All duplicates would be of equal or lower quality than itself.
If we want a more advanced program then intelligence must be applied.
Similarly, the fruit fly has many complex programs that run it but these programs cannot write higher programs though the code may allow for changes as required by outward circumstances. If the need arises for a leap in evolution for the fruit fly, then some intelligence must step forward and design the change.
It boils down to this. Either nothing moves things forward to higher forms, or something does. Obviously, something does.
Unfortunately, this is not obvious to those of an atheist bent.
An interesting point to consider is this: The greatest miracle of all is that anything exists. If just one grain of sand existed in the universe it would be miraculous indeed. The miracle is multiplied many times over with the creation of many grains, planets star systems galaxies, and most of all the existence of conscious life and intelligence.
As creation moves along in its sequential order all form disappears into the great pralaya where it would seem nothing exists. Yet from that seemingly nothingness comes a new creation, new universes of being and becoming come together.
Does this creation come then from nothing? If not, then what was there between the universes?
What existed was cause and effect manifesting intelligence, the light of truth that was not created or made, neither indeed can be.
Both the interplay of cause and effect and the resulting intelligence are eternal. They are two things that just always exist – fortunately for us.
There was no first cause, else there will be a last cause. Intelligence and the power of decision are the eternal cause.
The fact that intelligence exists is the greatest miracle of all and about all we can do in appreciation of that and the fact that this conscious intelligence is also within us is exclaim with the ancients:
“How great the mystery of godliness!”
The most effective lies are never shouted. They’re whispered until they sound like common sense. – Julian Assange
