You are all right in the fact that the mark could externalize as a microchip, a tattoo, a bar code etc. But the reality is that the mark is already here. That is the grand realization that keeps the Christian world in illusion and prevents them from removing the mark from their forehead.
Just as Christ came the first time and only 120 people out of the whole world realized it so has in this age the beast, the mark and the number also arrived and still has people looking for it.
