In answer to Anni's question of feeding the hungry or putting out a neighbor's fire, Saul writes:
"Of course it is true that the hungry person is on their own path and all that. But that does not mean that that person and I are separated from each other in reality. I experience my physical separation from the hungry person, but my soul and spirit, not to mention anything else, are one with their soul and spirit. I can't interfere with their life but I should do whatever I believe I must do for their overall welfare. As to what I would do specifically depends on how I see and feel about it at the moment. The soul's intuition is to be preferred to reasoning of the mind in this situation. I may go by the principle of good and evil as dictated by a consciousness as inherited from the socially approved past; I may go by my spontaneous response to the situation based on soul contact without reference to the concept of good and evil at all. One can choose either way and progress on their path. As far as I am concerned I would choose the latter. "Thus I fulfill the law of love, love for all other beings as well as for me without detouring by applying the knowledge of good and evil. The external action in both scenarios may very well be the same, but the consciousness involved is quite different."
JJ:
Talk about the mind slaying the real by making the simple complex. If someone is hungry, feed him. If the neighbor's house is on fire help him put it out and let the chips fall where they may. If some ultimate oneness is delayed a day or two so be it!
