Obama's 100 Days

In a letter to the local paper a person commented on six points in which he
though Obama had made positive change. I didn't agree and commented on them and
added a few points.
"Major Stormogpson" is thankful for Obama's changes. He might change his mind if he
thinks about it.
- The Fair Pay Act will create a bonanza for his attorney friends, increase
frivolous lawsuits and increase the cost of doing business meaning that
consumers will get the shaft and pay more.
- The SCHIP (State Children's Health Insurance Program) sounds good, but the cigarette tax will not pay for all of it and
we'll depend on borrowed Chinese money to foot the bill.
- It is a folly to declare Guantanamo (prison) shut down when no one wants the
prisoners. If this proceeds terrorists may be released to live in our
neighborhoods.
It was already illegal to torture. FDR's (US President Franklin D. Roosevelt) school chums waterboarded each other
regularly and never called it torture. It was their way to have fun.
- Extending unemployment benefits was a good move but that has been standard
procedure in hard times. This was not a change.
- Yes, he took steps toward socialized medicine, and with borrowed money. If
we can't pay for a program we shouldn't do it.
- Yes, he went after large bonuses, but only after he signed legislation
approving them. That's like the crazy uncle in the family that gives a gift and
takes it back.
Here's a couple more for which I am not thankful:
- Running up trillions in debt that will cause my grandkids to pay over
$120,000 each just for the interest.
- Unstimulating spending. You'd think that with all this borrowed money we
could at least have the illusion of prosperity for a while but most of the
spending does not stimulate much.
- Obama's "Cap and Trade Program" will send our utility bills through the roof
and will especially hurt the poor.
- Authorizing the US Attorney General to go after those who kept us safe for seven
years? What a precedent! Next we'll have a future Republican President
prosecuting Obama for destroying the economy. Is that what we want -- an eye for
an eye?
