Understanding Freedom 101

Geoffrey quotes me:

"Freedom is the greatest spiritual gift in the universe. To seek to take away freedom from law abiding citizens is not a spiritual quest."

Freedom is useless unless it has been earned. Geoffrey X

So, according to your logic the French should not be free because it was the United States and Britain that freed them after World War II as they were not able to earn it for themselves.

Germany, Italy and Japan also did not earn freedom for themselves, but was given to them as a gift from the Allies.

I have not earned my own freedom. Others have fought and earned the right for me, yet I really appreciate my freedom as well as those who have sacrificed for it.

Earning freedom for oneself is definitely a plus, but if one has consciousness to appreciate it then that will also work.

Geoffrey:

Should children be allowed to drive cars, fly airplanes, get loans, etc. etc or should these freedoms be taken away. I think we all agree that unless these freedoms are removed, people would get hurt and kill each other. In exactly the same way Americans should not be allowed to own guns as they are still children in this respect.

Yes, children need to be educated by adults but to say that Americans are children while excluding the English from this judgment is fairly insulting.

The fact that we have tons of guns in Idaho and have a murder rate of 1.2 per 100,000 compared to 41.8 in Washington DC where there is strong gun control shows that we are adults here in a high gun ownership area..

Geoffrey:

This race has not grown up since it's war of independence as it is still proud of killing the parents of this nation.

Those who fought the war of Independence were pretty grown up already and many have grown since that time. Who is proud of killing parents? What in the world are you talking about???

Geoffrey:

When the day comes that America apologizes to Britain for using weapons of mass destruction to take it's freedom instead of continual protesting until freedom was given, there will be no maturity in this respect. I believe that this is the root cause for the high murder rate.

Again, I have no idea what you are talking about. What WMD have we used against Britain? I do know we saved you from Nazism during WWII. A lot of the credit is due to the fact that many of our youth were already trained to use firearms and were skilled shots before enlisting. This shortened the time for training and helped turn the tide of the war.

Geoffrey:

So JJ, relinquish from using the excuse of rite of freedom for gun control unless you can tell me I was wrong to take away the freedom of my son to drive my car at the age of ten. Same result, death and destruction in each case.

You are running contrary to the Law of Correspondences here. The child has not yet successfully learned to drive a car but legal gun owners here know how to handle a gun.

When I was twelve I went hunting every night with my double barreled twelve gauge shot gun and I was not alone. Every friend had a shotgun and several other guns also. We figured that if you did not have a twelve gauge you were a wimp.

Yet all of us twelve-year olds knew how to handle a gun and none of us had any accidents. Back then (In the fifties) if there was one murder a year in the state it was news. The only accident I had was in making rockets, which was kind of virgin territory at the time.

Geoffrey:

When a man is ready to own a gun, he is at the stage that he realizes that he does not need one.

A lot of people own guns just because of the fun of shooting them at targets. Do you not play games? If so perhaps releasing some of the child in you would do you good.

The point I am making is not the need for a gun but the need for freedom to own one should it be desired.

To force one to do good has been the cause of all the great evils of our history. Again let me remind you that Hitler, Stalin, Castro, Pol Pot and other dictators only had a sincere desire to force others to adhere to their version of good and were willing to use force to accomplish this.

Why attempt to force law-abiding citizens, who know how to safely handle guns, to give them up when it serves no purpose?

When I was crossing the border into Canada, they asked if I had any firearms with me. I said, "Well, what do you need?"  Steven Wright
