Claire made an interesting comment to my statement that Neale Walsch seems to be an unconscious channeler:
"With respect, I do not think that is quite correct, JJ [...] there was quite a bit of conscious 'to and fro' dialogue between Neale and God' in the process, so I think it would be very fair to call him a conscious channeler!"
JJ:
It is best to examine his own words:
"As I began to put the pen down something caused my pen to hover over the paper and I started writing quite spontaneously. What came off the end of the pen was, 'Do you really want answers to these questions, or are you just venting?'"
Notice that his pen "started writing quite spontaneously." This is classic automatic writing.
The person gifted in such an unconscious process can indeed consciously formulate questions and even question the last response, but when the pen writes the medium is unaware
of what is being written (unless he is faking it).
Ruth Montgomery used this same process.
If he was a conscious channel he would have said that he sensed the words being formulated within his mind and then wrote them down in the normal manner.
A sign of a conscious channel is the revelation of one or more new principles or at least new knowledge. All the knowledge I have read in Walsch's books I have previously
read in other books. He did put a new slant or two here and there however.
Claire continues:
"Helen Schucman, on the other hand, should probably be scrubbed from the list, as she mostly did receive while in an unconscious, trance-like state, and was so surprised by the product of that state; she later ended up completely disowning it!"
JJ:
If you have information on Helen receiving her writings as an unconscious channel I would be interested in hearing it. All that I have read indicates she was conscious when
receiving the writings. From what I gather she had doubts about some of them at first but overall embraced them until the end of her life.
If you have information to the contrary I would be interested in hearing it. Sometimes zealous believers do distort information.
You might note that I have never stated that the "Course in Miracles" is exactly as it claims to be.
Let me clarify here that just because a teaching is channeled unconsciously does not mean that there is not truth there. One must read all teachings through the eyes of the
soul. My point is that higher more accurate teachings are given in full consciousness.
Now let us continue the class.
Audience:
"It's said that the experience of ego is what separateness is, that we're separated from God as an individual form."
JJ:
The soul manifests in two different directions as the Tibetan points out. The first category is in all the sub-human kingdoms. Interplay of spirit and matter produces soul,
which is an impulse toward organizing, toward the form nature. Soul energy in creation is what causes all things to aggregate into form. Thus all the kingdoms below man is one
category of soul impulse. It is the soul impulse that leads to the building of all things. It's the path of what we call "involution," the descent into matter or form.
Then life reaches a certain level when it's ready to go home. It arrives at another category of soul contact. This is the soul contact, which is the divine soul. In the
beginning, through our progression through all of the kingdoms, the soul is the mediator between God and man, between the One life and the form nature. In the beginning of
the progression of all lives, down to the mineral to the vegetable, the animal, the soul energy concentrates downward on the material side. Man is at the midway point of
evolution of all lives in the universe. In the larger scheme of things humanity is the soul of the universe. Matter of fact, that is an interesting way to look at it. He
is at the midway point between God and the universe and descending soul is at the midway point between matter and spirit.
When an entity reaches half way through his evolution, he achieves soul contact. The soul reverses its direction and the energy points up and leads us back from matter into
spirit. Now the ego The Course in Miracles talks about is the ego of the lower self. The ego the Tibetan talks about is the ego in the Divine Soul. This is important because
if you've read other books by different authors, you'll find they will use different definitions of the same word.
The Course in Miracles uses ego in a totally different light than does the Tibetan. It uses the ego as the ego that holds us down here in the material world, which is a lower
reflection with attachments. Sometimes the Course in Miracles description of the ego sounds like the "Dweller on the Threshold" in the Alice A. Bailey writings. But the ego of
the Divine Soul is what the Tibetan refers to, so whenever you see the word "Ego" in the Tibetan's writings remember it means a higher part of yourself, for the ego of the
person has some contact with the Divine Soul.
This is one of the purposes of his writings, to lead us into this contact. You'll find that almost everybody out there thinks they have achieved Divine contact of some kind.
Anywhere from Bakker to Swaggart and all the religious people, the born-again fundamentalists, they all think they've achieved the highest contact that can ever be made. Many
of the New Age people think they have too, but when higher contact is achieved there will be a tremendous down-flow of energy and it's arrived at in a number of steps, it's not
done in one giant leap.
Like the bumper stickers we used to see on cars, "I found it!" We will never find IT; there's always a new IT, always a new goal to find. So we can sit on the IT we just found
but there's always a new IT and no matter how much soul contact you may have had (and I'm sure some people in this room may have had some) there's always something higher for you
to grasp later on.
This is one of the most disappointing things I have discovered as a teacher. I have found so many people who think they have found the ultimate so they quit looking because
they think they have found IT. We should never quit looking, because there is always another stage of spiritual contact for us as long as we can't walk through those walls over
there. Then even when we can do that, there's more.
So, the second point we should accept to get full value from these writings is the existence of soul and soul energy.
The third item to accept is that there is such a thing as spiritual evolution. Matter is moving toward spirit. Matter originally was spirit, and the vibration was lowered and
matter was created, and now matter is moving toward spirit. This is what we call spiritual evolution. Spiritual evolution must be taken as a fact of life. What is spiritual
evolution? What do we mean by that?
Audience:
"That would be the opposite of what you just said, an increase in vibrations
JJ:
Okay, an increase in vibrations, gaining in light, and growing in understanding and knowledge, etc.
The fourth thing that must be taken into consideration is the theory of reincarnation.
Audience:
"What happened to three?"
JJ:
Three is that there is spiritual evolution. There is such a thing; it is a fact. Four is that there is reincarnation. If we don't believe in reincarnation it's hard to
see the whole scope of things, how the universe works, how the soul works. Because if there is reincarnation that means there is a tremendous number of lives altogether for
us to experience and if we're only looking at one life we only looking at maybe one-thousandth of the picture. If we're only looking at one-thousandth of a picture, how much
can we really see? Did you ever put together a puzzle with a thousand pieces and just look at one piece? You can't get much of an idea of what the whole looks like, can you?
So by accepting the fact that there is reincarnation, it helps us to see the whole.
Now, if anyone in this room has doubts about it, what I would suggest is incorporate it into your mind as an experiment. Use reincarnation as an experiment to look at the
whole picture and see what it looks like. This is what I first did, because I grew up in a religion that taught that reincarnation was the doctrine of the devil. So I had
to try it as kind of an experiment first, and put myself out there where I might be end up going to hell. I would visualize but not quite commit myself and see what the picture
looked like. The picture started looking better and better until I saw it.
Question:
Few religions teach the concepts of spiritual evolution and reincarnation. How does the refusal to accept these concepts dam (as opposed to damn) their progression? How does the acceptance of these principles help us learn spiritually?
